Blind Rooting - HTC Amaze 4G

I've come to terms with the fact that I cannot visualize my hboot or recovery with the knowledge that 4ext is in place. I need assistance with which buttons to push to run the super user script in 4ext to root this phone so I can S OFF it. I need visual cues and steps on what buttons to push. Keep in mind that I cannot see anything on my screen so I need landmarks (charger plug level, top volume rocker level, etc) I will be booting into recovery from toolkit.
Cliffs:
Screen black
What buttons do I push
Where are these buttons

i can't remember does 4ext allow volume rockers to be used for selection or is it the keys on the phone itself.. i no long have a htc at hand to actually walk through it, can just go from knowledge.. but im sure there's a video or something on youtube on how to do it

I don't know but when I press on the screen in recovery it vibrates so it is registering something. I have searched for a video but have not had any luck.

Nope, 4ext touch does not allow the use of the volume rocker

I de-rooted yesterday (Froyo!) for the first time and out of principle want to see how long I can go. One of the only thing that I missed at the moment was screen captures that I need for the small amount of apps I have developed or plan on developing.
I wasn't aware of this ability in the SDK. That makes sense now.
I accidentally did a screen capture today...the phone was on the car charger and I was trying to turn the screen off, I pushed the power button and heard the shutter sound. May be a glitch of somekind
Btw, I am not rooted

I don't think so. The okay is the power button..... At least on the Vibrant. On other phones it's the okay or enter button on the keyboard but never the home or back buttons. As a matter of fact the back button does what it's supposed to. Just my 2 cents.

The OP might be screwed at this point. Unless you can remap the keys in recovery?

Dude, did you not read his entire post or do you just not understand ebonics?
HIS POWER BUTTON IS GONE!!! If you have ever flashed a rom before with clockworkmod, you would know that the "Power" button is the Ok button, which he doesn't have anymore.

Have you done anything to the file systems? Do you think it will still boot with just a hard reset? You can reset if its been rooted with adb. Do you have the sdk installed on your computer? If not, install the android sdk from the code.google site, and find an adb tutorial on this forum with the search tool..

I can 100% fix this for you. I have a few extra buttons in stock. If you send me the phone, I can solder you on a brand new one. You are not screwed...
Just PM me if you are interested....

Dimming soft keys?

Does anyone know if there's a way to dim or turn off the backlit soft keys (back, home, and apps)?
Sometimes I feel like the backlight is too bright when watching a video.

I tried that app but sadly I don't have my device rooted yet. I'll try it again when I do.
If there is another method I'd like to give that a shot as well.

Look for freeza's post. He did this quite a while ago.
i have a method but u will need root to do it.download this zip. using a root file manager of choice, go to the download and extract it. now go to the extracted folder open it and copy the 50dimleds. now navigate to system\etc\init.d and paste. be sure to give correct r/w permission. reboot and watch your new dimmed soft keys.
hit my thanks if i helped.
Thanks I'll give it a shot.

Long pressing the power will do a hard reboot, used if phone were to become froze and unresponsive.I can't answer your question on how you would change that function.

I guess I mean medium press? The one that brings up the menu of what you'd like to do, shutdown shutdown and restart, etc. Well before it just shuts off from holding it down.
Works perfectly!

You know, like on all the aosp and cyanogen ROM's. Push the power button and you get the option to boot to recovery, download mode, restart, shut off, etc...

I have been using this app for almost 2 years. Grab the app "Swipepad" and its probably the quickest way to reboot or boot to recovery

[Q] Phone goes directly to HBoot

Help all,
The other day my E3D started going directly to HBoot when I press the power button. When in HBoot only the volume up button works and it will not accept me pressing the start button to select anything. I am able to put it into safe mode to boot android but I am then unable to get it out of safe mode. I was initially running Pac Rom but am now using Dirty Unicorns 1.2 and have the same result. Any suggestions appreciated.

I think you may be right. I was actually thinking that before and checked under the backing to see if something was stuck there. I just noticed that when I try and press volume down that it does not work. Ugh...but thanks.
