[Q] Blackstar tablet mode status bar not showing icons - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hi!
I don't think my chances of finding an answer here are good, but I can't post into the Blackstar thread.
If I put it into tablet mode the status bar can be opened in the lower right corner, but the icons shown are unconfigurable. No matter what I change in settings they stay the same. I'm particularly missing the flashlight and reboot buttons as well as airplane mode.
Interestingly the theme seems to be different. They are green instead of white.
Also, I don't like the status bar opening only in the corner (instead of across the whole screen) and being at the bottom. Is there a way to change either?
Thanks a lot!

I guess there's quite a few things broken. Installing a theme lead to Systemui crashing.
The only way I found to "remove" that was re-flashing the ROM. Which now led to the weird problem that there is only one wallpaper now. Before I had several choices (mountains over a lake, beach with footprints...). I can't figure out what happened there. They must have come with the ROM in the first place since I never installed anything else. How can re-flashing the ROM cause this???

probably from not wiping everything properly when you first flashed, and between flashes...

Magic button 2.1

I read from Magic Button's official website that they have a new version 2.1 that resolves the task bar color problem. However, when I followed the link to download.com, it is 2.0 that get downloaded, and this version mess up my task bar.
Google on "Magic Button 2.1" does not yield any result.
Has anyone got version 2.1 or is able to post a link?
Thanks.
Edit: Found the link. It is on the official webpage itself! The download.com's copy has not been updated.
Hmm... it's a shame that even version 2.1 mess up the color. My black task bar color is no longer black. It's today icon is also in the wrong position, covering half of my network signal (in 128dpi. Did'nt try the other dpi yet)
What a pity. It has been my favourite task manager for a long long time, and was given up when I moved to WM6. I was so excited when I saw the version update history, and thinking that 2.1 would work without problem in WM6. Looks like we have to wait for version 2.2 and see if it works.
Fortunately, pBar is working. It does not show the running tasks on the taskbar, but that's the next best thing now.
Thanks for the tip. The taskbar colors are much improved, but not perfect.
Here's a link to my previous post on fixing the placement of the Today icon when using 128dpi:

Thanks for the solution regarding Today icon position. Came across your post before, but didnt remember it untill you mentioned it. Thanks
But the color is outright the wrong color at the moment. It is the default blue whereas my task bar is black. Is there a way to fix the color? I really like the glossy black task bar, and unless MB can blend in, I would stick with pBar.
Sorry, I'm using the default blue theme, so MB looked pretty good to me.
Do a search on using UITweaker to fix the MB colors... not sure how it will work with the new version though.
With further investigationk, I found out that magic button is not actually showing only in blue color. It is able to use any WM6 color. The reason it does not blend in to my black task bar was because my black taskbar was "painted over" by Tweak2k2 rather than part of a black theme.
I tried it with other colors besides blue, and found out that it can blend in with any color.
Now the logical thing for me to do is to come up with a glossy black taskbar WITHOUT using Tweak2k2.
Can someone give me some pointers on how I can change my taskbar to glossy black ?
BTW, Steve, your tips on changing the Today icon position works beautifully. Thanks for that.
Still lots of bugs?
Magic button 2.1 seems to be quite buggy.
The position of the today icon just randomly moves about. It even moves all the way to the right, completely wipe off my clock and date, network signal, and other icons. When it is not doing that, the position of the today icon does not seem to stay at the same position. I notice that the registry value changes by itself as this happens.
Any idea what causes this and if there is a cure?

I use this program as well and it's also my favorite. I'm considering putting it into 3.0 of AP when released.
Yes it's a little buggy and I've noticed that the fix for color blending isn't working very well, nor is the placement of the house icon. I've e-mailed the developer to see if they can resolve this. If they fix both issues it would be a perfect addition to the ROM as it would replace xbutton and batti (buggy batti btw and I've disabled it for now with a tremendous improvement).
Thanks for noticing the registry value changes on it's own. Maybe we can lock down that value some way so this doesn't happen but it may cause an issue. Not sure if there is a way to lock down registry values or protect them in WM6 but it's worth a look into.

There is some slight movement of the Today icon upon closing all active tasks, but not enough to cause problems for me.
I suspect when the Today icon moved all the way to the right (covering all your taskbar info) you may have inadvertently changed the registry setting by selecting Magic Button 'Settings.' If you go into Settings, it will overwrite the hack, and if you don't select "Show clock and 4 icons" it defaults to 0, moving the Today icon all the way to the right upon exiting Settings. I think if you do the hack last, after getting all your other options set, the hack will hold... at least it seems to for me.
I think the flaw is too serious
Icon position
==========
I tried the registry edit, and found out that in 128dpi, the smallest value for the position (as described in Steve's post) is 06. That would place the today icon immediately to the left of the phone signal icons, and would cover up any mail message and vueflo icon. If you make it 08 so as to enable the vueflo and mail message icons to be visible, then when you move to 192 dpi portrait mode, the today icon would be completely off to the left of the screen (i.e. does not appear on the device at all).
This means that with value of 08, magic button is completely non-functional in 192 dpi.
Even with value of 06 (which still covers some icons in 128 dpi), at 192dpi it is no longer possible to close an application. This is because we need to press and hold the running icons on the task bar in order to close it. At 192 dpi, the runnng icon is no longer visible on the taskbar, thus you can longer press and hold in order to close it. Even if there is only one application running, as long as you are not on today screen, the running icon would not appear on the taskbar. If you're on today screen, because the today icon shifts unexpectedly to the right by one position, then it is possible to close the running application if you have only one application running. However, if you have more than one running, then even on today screen, you could not close any application. The only way around this is to switch to the landscape mode so that running icons have room on the taskbar to appear.
Color
====
The color blends better in 96 and 192dpi. In 128, the look is bad. Unfortunately, most of the time I'm using 128dpi.
I think pBar is still the one.
But seriously, I do not say that pBar is perfect. In fact there are a few problems, as listed below:
1) the date and time color is not right. My solultion: don't use it.
2) the favourites items could not be rearranged. The move button does not work. My solution: not a big deal. I don't need to move them.
The only regret is that it does not put up the running icons on the task bar, therefore, switching/closing program is a two click process instead of one click. Similarly, going back to the today screen is a two click process instead of magic button's one click.
Its advantages are also plenty:
1) it is very space efficient.
2) it solves the problem of comm manager in realVGA display.
3) it allows up to favourites program to be quick launched.
4) it really has no problem in realVGA environment. Magic button does not handle realVGA very well, in terms of icon positioning.

Icons disappearing

So twice now my icons disappeared on me. The only programs I can access will be the ones listed in the recently open list. I have to reboot to get the icons back.
Anyone else getting this? Also, I don't think I am doing much of anything but switching between apps. Thanks.
Little more info please?

I got this too last night
a lot of times when an app automatically updates, it removes the icon. looks at the icon that disappeared and see if it was automatically updated in the market.
Every icon installed and apps/games, widgets. I mean everything disappears. You can't even swipe left or right to get to your other desktop. The only things you can access are the home (which really doesn't do anything because you are already home), recently opened apps, and the back (which again will not do anything). Settings work too but that's it. To get everything back, you will need to reboot.
Icons also going invisible
Add me to the group of people who lose all their icons. This happens to me several times a day. The icons are still there just invisible. If i touch the right spot I can launch things as normal. I can also change the background if I touch an empty area. But every single icon is gone and the entire background is displayed. Also the app button which I can touch and launch if I pick the right spot simply brings up a blank black background again with no apps/icons.
I do have the video issues on occasion where certain games blink/flash and lock up, but usually don't do this if I restart the tablet and run the game first thing. Also have the random occasional screen tearing especially when using a live background.
I'm looking forward to the February update and hope this fixes the issue. I'd reset the icon cache if I knew how but I'm not sure that's the issue. If anyone has ideas let me know.
Thanks
Possible cause?
Hi guys,
I didn't have this issue after upgrading to 4.0.3, but then sometime last week I did start having the same issue with the stock launcher "crashing" (well, it was still running, but in brain-dead mode where it won't display icons or widgets).
I started un-installing stuff and after about 4 hours of messing around I noticed that the launcher didn't crash when I had disabled "cool tool". (This is a really cool floating CPU graph.) Cool tool _seemed_ to work fine on my prime, and I had it floating over the status/button bar. But apparently it was, after running for a couple hours, causing openGLRenderer to run out of memory which caused the launcher to freak out.
At least that's my take on what was happening. Anyway, I'm using SeePU now, and I haven't had a launcher "crash" in a couple days. Maybe this isn't your problem, but I used "System Info Pro" (or something like that) to view the android log. Might help in troubleshooting? If this IS the root cause, I guess somebody should tell the developer...
Getting this thing loaded with apps & widgets AND staying stable and fast has been a challenge to say the least. But a fun one. I think?!

Same bug here. It happened to me a couple of time. I reported it to Asus Canada yesterday... But no news yet.
It looks like the "foreground" become transparent/invisible. The System bar still works. For me, I can even click on the invisible icons to start the apps.
The only work-around I found is to reboot my device.
I experienced the bug once more this morning. I tought it was related to "force GPU rendering", I had it enabled and since I disabled it, most of my bugs are gone.
But this morning again, the foreground became "transparent" and I was only seeing the background.
BTW, you could rename the thread: "Icons disappearing/transparent desktop".
Also, does version .13 fix this?
Same problem here.
Problem occus now a few times a day. All Icons/Widgets and app drawer icon are invisible but still clickable! Only a restart solves the problem or going to settings->apps->force close for the homescreen-app will solve it for some time.
Any Ideas or a statement from ASUS?

I reported the problem to Asus.
You should do the same, if it's not already done.
I have seen this 3 times in day or so...any one had any update on cause or fix other than reboot
Same here
Add me to the list as well... all icons go transparent ... only see the background ... can tap "invisible" icons and they work ...
I confirm it is still present in WW .15.
Sometime a "force close" of the Launcher is enough, but other time it happens again and again, only a reboot fix it (for a while). Beside this (annoying) bug, I consider my Prime very stable. Gmail sometimes crash, but it seems to be fixed (or less prominent in .15).
Asus Tech. Support suggested me to do a factory reset... Haven't tried it yet. I may also try an alternate Launcher (Trebuchet...) to see if it's only related to the Launcher or the system.
PS: Don't forget to report it to Asus Tech. Support.
I saw this for the first time today on the non-Prime TF101. I upgraded to the FOTA ICS update a couple of weeks ago (for which I've observed the same occasional resets as others) but this is the first time I've had this app problem.
Different desktops can be accessed, but they're all blank. Apps can be run from their invisible icons. The top-right app menu also has invisible apps which can be run.
I have a small (2.5MB 30s) video, if I manage to upload it.
I had a similar thing again since, but this time the icons returned when moving between desktops. I think the common thing I was doing was grouping apps together into single composite icons.
I'm not 100% sure, but since I cleaned up my home screens it does not happen anymore. I removed all my widgets except for gmail and calendar. And all my stuff is on one screen (thanks to folders).
You may try this too to see if it makes a difference.
Thanks. My screens were almost completely full. But I never saw this issue until I started using folders!
I got it the other day for the first time.
I had just downloaded Simplistic Text.
Rebooted, everything was fine--just assumed it had something to do with some file cleanup or something that didn't get done after the download.
Ah, and fyi, I'm running Honeycomb on the Japanese build. (They still haven't given us the damned ICS yet over here.)
All the icons disappearing used to happen to me a couple of times a day, with only a reboot fixing the issue.
Whilst trying to fix a constantly crashing GMail I removed the Beautiful Widgets home screen weather/clock widget and this amazingly fixed the disappearing icons and hasn't happened since. One down only another 101 bugs left to fix!
Hope this helps someone.

[Xperia S] Parts Of Screen Don't Respond

I recently recieved my Xperia S back from Sony today as I had the yellow tint issue. That seems to be gone 'fingers crossed' but it seems like I now have a more annoying issue
The bottom right of my screen is less sensitive than the rest of the screen. For example when unlocking my phone I find it very hard to get the unlock icon from one side to the other. It gets to about where the camera Icon is and then it goes back to where I dragged it from. It take me about 5 attempts to get it unlocked.
Also when draging icons on the homescreen to the far right position on the homescreen dock and I can have some trouble picking up the icon or moving it there.
I've found a part of my screen that doesn't respond at all! On the app drawer the icon next to the sorting option (Manage Applications button) doesn't respond at all. I've tried clicking it over 20 times and nothing has happened. If I drag the status bar down over the icon it doesn't recognise that my finger is touching the screen and then the status bar falls the the bottom of the screen.
I've tried restoring my phone and trying a newer firmware but the problem is still there. Did they do something wrong when they put my phone back together? Is there anything I can do rather than sending it back to Sony?

[Q] Missing notification bar

Evening Everyone,
Spent the day playing with rooting my tablet (longer than expected but, eh). Ended up going with this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877217 and installing an embedded clockwork so I didn't have to hassle with an imaged sdcard all day. Everything worked great, some flaws with the rom but it is generally really stable.
Started playing with the settings and all of a sudden I got a message that the system UI has quit working. Now the status, notification bars and navigation buttons have disappeared. So far I have:
Rebooted
Opened Trebuchet and cleared the cache (and rebooted)
played with the settings to try and at least get the tablet bar to activate, it didn't (and rebooted)
Anyone have any solutions on how to get it back? I haven't tried reinstalling the rom as I wanted to try you guys first before I go and redo everything yet again.
Thanks for your help!

try holding the power button until the menu pops up and there should be something along the lines of "toggle status bar"
I have an option to "Expand Notifications" and it does drop down the extended notification bar, however it disappears right after use and I still do not have status or navigation buttons.
It is acting like I have full screen time out activated, but I have checked over and over and it is not
Got it
had to set the full screen timeout, exit to home, go back into settings and clear the full screen and violin, it is back...
(those captchas blow ass!!! this is the fourth time...grrrr...)

[Q] Can't access notification shade

I recently bought the HTC One X+ and decided yesterday to install a screen protector on it. I took the phone to a mobile store where the employee used some liquid to install the screen protector, I thought that it was no big deal, I've seen them install it this way a lot of times. The screen protector was installed and everything was fine, but about an hour of using the device.. the screen started glitching as if the notification shade was being rapidly pulled down and up, so I rebooted the phone because I thought that it may have been a bug with the ROM I was using, but after the phone fully booted, I couldn't access the notification shade by pulling it down, so I flashed Cyanogenmod (still thinking it might have been the ROM) but that didn't work...
Now the touch on the top edge of the screen is broken and I have no idea on what or who to blame.
I still haven't removed the screen protector because I'm not sure whether I should return the phone to the mobile store or just remove the screen protector and hope for the best.
What should I do?
UPDATE: I removed the screen protector half way and wiped the top of the screen but no luck :/
UPDATE 2: I give up! it seems that I have a dead zone (a perfect rectangle on the top edge)
right now I'm looking for an app that will allow me access to the notification shade by pressing the power button or long-pressing the home/back button. Anybody knows any?
Well to test if it is really a dead zone at the top of the phone underneath the earpiece, go to an app that has a horizontal orientation. Rotate your phone, and the status bar should then be along one of the sides of the screen instead. See if you can pull it down from there. If not, then for some reason you have a defunct notification shade.
If it does work, then see if there is an app that you use that will show that the zone is dead (again in horizontal orientation; you'll basically just need to change what the parts of the screen does to troubleshoot).
In the mean time, there are launchers such as Nova Launcher that allow you to add icons and set gestures to access a variety of options, including bringing down the notification shade. I personally use a down swipe on any part of the home screen to bring down the whole notification shade without having to reach to the top for it.
If you really have a dead zone on your screen, see if you can't get some help with that, because it is beyond me.

I actually can access the notification shade in landscape mode, with the help of an app I confirm that there's indeed a dead zone at the top edge of the display. My problem was that i couldn't access it in portrait mode in apps other than the custom launcher. Right now I'm using GMD Gesture Control and with a two finger swipe down I am able to finally access it but my current problem is using the device with only one hand (I can't swipe down with two fingers while using the device with one hand you see)
wouldn't removing the screen protector be the easiest way to discover if the protector is the one causing lack of sensitivity or if the device has truly been damaged?

I did remove it...
I also did some research and it turns out that pressing too hard on the screen was the main cause, so I'm going to return to the store again because of that goddamn idiot
woops, didn't see your updates. Sorry!
I finally figured out how to expand the status bar by long pressing a button thanks to this app:

bump this thread up.
just had this problem and tried searching for a solution, only managed to find this thread. running a fully stock phone.
software 1.17.707.2, android 4.1.1. tried rebooting, shutting off phone and leaving it off overnight and turning it on in the morning.
the only app i installed within the last week was castle clash(and since uninstalled it, doesn't work).
using the developer tools(pointer location), realised the dead zone was across the whole drop down notification bar (y coordinates of 0-98 out of 1280)..
anyone has encountered a similar problem and has a solution?
