[Q] Soft Brick SCH-1605 Note 2 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

So, I tried meddling with ROMS using the Rom Manager and installed the Clockwork Mod thingie through the program and when it rebooted, Verizon keeps telling me I'm running unauthorized software. I went to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040264 and used odin 4 times with the stock firmware, but it still keeps telling me the same darn thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm coming from iOS and am loving what I've found so far on android, but Verizon is ... yeah.

I did the same thing. I had to take my phone back to Verizon to get a new phone. Sucks

the same thing happened to me also, using ROM Manager on 01/10/13. i used the section "Section 1: How to Root/ Return to Stock 4.1.1 Jelly Bean with Odin" info found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207, to get mine back to normal.

I am a noob and I need help :(

Hello all,
I am the proud new owner (first time android owner as well) of a Galaxy S3 SGH-1747, and I am still learning the ins and outs of the phone but so far I am loving this thing.
However, I did run into some issues when I did an install of a ROM AOKP Task & KToonsez ROM. The first major problem is that my computer will now not read my phone, whereas before it was able to register it. I know I have the correct drivers installed and I have the android usb debugging thing box checked in my settings. I have tried several different USB ports now thinking it might be that but they all do not read it. As smooth as this ROM is, it is still in the early stages and there are a lot of bugs and kinks that need to be worked out still so I would like to either switch back to the stock ROM or aim for a more stable one. I am not sure how I can do either of this without a copy of the original touchwiz ROM on there.
Please help me figure this problem out lol.
Flash your nandroid. I'm sure you made one like you're supposed to.

But ever since I installed this ROM my computer stopped reading my phone, it won't even show up on kies either. I am trying right now a factory reset and wipe but it just keeps going back to the same rom.

Ok, one last stupid question for you though. How would I be able to do this if my computer is not reading my phone? I have Odin installed and all that jazz but the phone will not register on the computer. Will Odin still read it even though it's not showing up under my computer?

I'm not flashing roms on my s3 yet so I'm not positive but doesn't aosp roms take the Google drivers, not the Samsung ones? I know with the captivate on cm9 I had to install them.

BRICKED phone flashing kernel

I was running Scotts CleanRom 4.25 on my s3 and flashed Saberkernel.13.4 and it bricked my sg3.. will not boot into recovery.. the kernal works on my note 2.. but just thought I would post to prevent others from making same mistake. I done the battery pull. and can only get a red light to come on , on the top left of the device. Even tried a second battery I have from wife's s3.. same thing.. and it is not recognized with usb chord either. Had to ship it back to Samsung...

Aaaaand that's why you don't flash anything that's not made specifically for your phone, unless you know it's compatible. Sorry for your loss though. Can you get into download mode? Guess it's too late now, if you already sent it back, but I'm sure you tried to Odin back to stock..

Kinda like me I still use my S3 as a backup phone for streaming music on Wi-Fi/hotspot, playing games, hooking it up to my tv, and flashing ROM's when I get an itch, and don't feel like changing my current Note setup. I really like the Galaxy Mod ROM for the S3 mainly because it has Multiwindow, which I can no longer live without!
Sent from my Inverted Beans ROM @ 240 DPI
So, you flashed a Note 2 kernel that is for an Exynos SoC to the SGS3, which is a Qualcomm SoC? I'm not sure why anyone would even think to try this in the first place, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to warn everyone. Also, this is exactly the reason VZW locks the bootloader, because people do things like this and then get warranty replacements.
As for fixing it, you should be able to, but you likely need a USB jig to force it into download mode, then a full Odin tar plus a PIT file so you can re-partition properly.
Exactly what imnuts said. People sending their phones back for warranty replacement due to mistakes THEY made themselves is exactly why verizon is locking bootloaders and why rooting voids your warranty. If people took responsibility for their own actions, the rest of us wouldn't have to pay for the consequences.
Should change the title to I bricked my phone by flashing a kernel that was not made for my phone. The kernel did not brick your phone you did by making a really bad decision.
This thread is bad and you should feel bad, too.

This may be the most ridiculous thread I've seen in a long time. But only the fact instead of paying for his mistake he thinks some how is Samsung responsibly, but how completely ridiculous he was to knowingly flash a note 2 kernel on a s3.
op why do you think there are different sub forums for phones and even carriers. You're probably one of the people who flashed an international ROM too. ...Then sent your hard bricked phone in for warranty

Screwing up is forgetting to check the md5 and soft briking. Flashing a kernel made for a different phone ON PURPOSE then, instead of paying for it himself, decides it's somehow Samsung fault. Oh and then posting here like it's the kernels fault is ignorance!

Note 2 newb just unlocked

Hi guys, I am very new to the Note 2. I just unlocked and rooted the latest ota using Casual. Thanks to Adam Outler and everyone else involved. So my question is which ROMs are compatible with this ota? Basic question I'm sure. I came from the Razr and the kernel had to match so I assume its the same here? Anyone willing to shed some light on this for me would be greatly appreciated.

Any rom you want as long as it is in the VZW Note 2 threads can be flashed ours arent locked down by what update we are on because our bootloader is unlocked where it isnt on Moto phones. AOSP roms require AOSP kernels as TW roms require TW kernels. The roms come with kernels though so that isnt something tk worry about unless you I want to.
The only thing to remember is if you go to a 4.2 rom and want t I go back to 4.1 you have to flash a downgrade zip so your SD card doesnt become corrupted. You can find the downgrade zip in the Official CM 10.1 thread in the OP.
Check out Droidstyles guide in Android Development, its a sticky, it explains quite a bit and would ne helpful to you I think.

Thanks for the info. Exactly the answers and info I was looking for. I just flashed CleanROM and went through the flashing process. When it got to the end and said finish to reboot it just turned off and wouldnt turn back on. Couldn't get to recovery or download mode. I had to pull the battery and then turn it on. It went straight to the new ROM though without a hitch. Is that a normal part of the flashing procedure on the N2? The battery pull I mean, or did I miss something?

Thats not a normal thing to happen, but it does happen occasionally. As long as it boots up after the battery pull I wouldnt be too worried by it. I have had it happen to me before and after the battery pull I experienced no issues whatsoever.

CleanROM's good. It was the first ROM I flashed when I got my Note II too.
Eventually though, you may want to switch to something more feature-rich like Jelly Beans, which is what I'm rocking now. The features it adds are pretty awesome and you get full touchwiz functionality (S-Pen and the like) with the look of AOSP.
DL'ing Jelly Beans now. Gotta make a new TiBu before flashing though. Will give it a go shortly. My wife fusses at me sometimes cause on my old phone (Razr) and on this one I am always flashing different ROMs. She especially hates it when she calls and my phone goes directly to voicemail cause I am in recovery flashing a ROM or kernel.

Hi all, I'm feeling like a n00b on the Note too, and really appreciate the help all of you seem to be willing to share with each other. I'm not new to modding phones, recently I've been through an S3, DNA, RAZR HD and M, and even another Note 2. I made the mistake of swapping the Note 2 for an iPhone 5, and regretted it about thirty seconds later. Now that's my wife's phone, and due to the grace of another (local) xda member, I'm back rockin' the Note 2. This time around in looking forward to getting into some serious flashing and tweaking to get the most from the hardware. I've decided this is Verizon's best phone at the moment, with everything I need.
Don't worry, you're not alone in having a wife who gets annoyed at flashing and tweaking. Happens to me all the time, but I use the excuse it's one of the few hobbies that I have which doesn't involve the rest of the family and I need a bit of alone time. It kind of works as an excuse until the point where I need to use it again.
I'm looking forward to being part of this community and wanted to say hello.

Best of luck!

[Q] No Service

I was running jellybeans ROM and my phone was working fine. I decided to update to a 4.3 rom, so I backed up my apps with helium and flashed carbon rom. Turns out it was a bad zip. So then I tried to flash liquidsmooth, yet another bad zip. So i ran the installer for jelly beans rom just to get my phone to work and nowI cant make calls or texts. What should I do?

What ROM would you say has the best battery life?
Cleanrom has been my "go to" rom for a long time on the s3. Make of that what you will.
(for the record: I've got several friends currently using the n2 & trust their rom recommendations. I'm looking for my n2 to arrive sometime next week and will be looking at both of the roms I've suggested. I'll tell ya that I love cleanrom's stability on the s3 & I expect it's the same on the n2. The same should prove true for Alliance rom.)

All TouchWiz ROMs are going to have the same approximate battery life, and all AOSP based ROMs will be about the same with regards to battery life as well. Both of these assume you have things set up the same or similarly on the ROMs. There may be a difference in battery life when comparing TW to AOSP, but that will be the only time you get any real change in battery life.

Try pulling the sim card & rebooting. Then insert the sim card after it's booted. If this fails I'm thinking you may have to run in to a corp vzw store. Might be a bad sim. Might be a lot of things. As far as vzw knows this happened outta the blue after a reboot. Your device was never rooted.

Need Help. Got New Cell

Ok, well I have a note 2 with verizon and had 4.1.1 and had it rooted. When then new ota update came, did it and phone went to crappers (a while back of course) So For the past month I been rooting my phone with 4.1.1 to make it "work" and phone started acting weird. Called verizon and received new phone yesterday with 4.1.2.
Now, I have been looking for ways to root it and found several, but when I try them, phone does not root.
Any help would greatly appreciate it.
