hi,
recovery is included in hidden.img.
unfortunatelly there is no method (for now)
to downgrade hidden.img.
So if you will update to ICS,
then its one-way-ticket.
When you will update to ICS,
then with hidden.img recovery
is being updated, but also kernel (for ICS).
So there is no way to use Honeycomb
after that.
If you will update - then be sure,
to use version max R1A,
to be able to use adb shell etc.
(like in making decrypt utility ).

condi
i mean replace recovery inside rom file!not the tablet one
so you mean after update to custom 4.2.3 r5a,it's not possible to downgrade system(exclude recovery)to hc again?
still not know how to add r1a's recovery to r5a rom
condi say don't dir update to r5a,then how to make a useable CHINA rom?
replace hiden.img?
-------------------------
ok,i got the answer:
aio will replace hiden.img for custom image

I have survived a long time on stock 1.5 rom. Have been waiting a long time for 2.1 rom. Now that it is finally coming to me, I am starting to consider if I should just root and install all the other roms out there now, just in case stock 2.1 cannot be rooted....
any comments ?
I am using a singapore hero ..
2.1 cannot currently be rooted, do not flash it if you want to root.
Thread moved.
just root and install a 2.1 rom, theyr exactly the same but with a root features
yeah i was also gonna ask the same question .. it was running whole time on my mind ..
Currently i am on official 1.5 firmware , i am waiting for 2.1 update also i didn't root my phone yet but planning to what if i install official 2.1 update ? later i can not root Hero ? & can't install or flash any Custom ROM ?
Or root now & install Custom ROM ?
would just say you can not root after you upgrade to offical 2.1 from HTCs site or OTA or RRU file...
while you are on 1.5 root!
once you have a custom recovery you can flash a update.zip file that contains 2.1 offical upgrade minus the SPL upgrade and recovery and radio..
it would be just silly for anyone to install the offical update direct from htc. there have been so many threats about this...
hope this helps though
Hi,
New to the Xperia Play but am confident in rooting through other devices, X10, Galaxy S2, Armani S etc.
Now in the guides it asks to flash the .181 before upgrading to .184 if not an unlocked bootloader or flashing .184 direct if it is unlocked.
I am currently using .145 which isnt listed in the guide.
Can anyone confirm if there's a difference or if I'm on a ROM which can't have the bootloader unlocked??
Thanks.
Edit: I can connect via fastboot and get a version 0.3 returned after doing the getjar version command. So really, is the .184 the best update to go to as opposed to a .145?
Follow this guide here. Just flash the .184 then root and then ota update to 2.3.3. You will be rooted on 2.3.3 build .145.
builds;
R800i:
3.0.A.2.181 // 7X30A-AAABQMAZM-1290_14-10 (forgot android version)
3.0.A.2.184 // 7X30A-AAABQMAZM-1290_14-14 (2.3.2)
3.0.1.A.0.145 // 7X30A-AAABQMAZM-1290_21-22 (2.3.3)
.145 is not listed because gingerbreak doesnt work on 2.3.3 and is the latest version you are upgrading to. It only works on builds .181 or .184 so you need to flash the previous version (.184 (2.3.2) in the guide above, you dont need to flash .181 and .184 just the previous version or 2.3.3 which is .184) for root access to succeed then use ota to keep root.
If you bought an r800i then the bootloader is unlockable. Go here if you want to unlock http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions but if all you want is root then unlocking the bootloader is not needed atm (just follow the guide in the link above) you can unlock later if you want to install cm7 when the bugs are worked out or any other custom rom.

.184 is 2.3.2, .145 is 2.3.3 the latest version out atm you only need to go to .184 so rooting with gingerbreak will work then you use ota to upgrade to .145 with root still enabled
I just brought this in Hk, and i installed the adb drivers etc and tried to use the all in one tool to root, it tells me that my device is currently unrootable?
i've done nothing to the tablet
its running
android version 3.2
kernal version 2.6.36.3
build number 1.10.001100029
i thought that it could be rooted? or am i wrong?
in the kernel version, is it also written kernel10? if so, you may have to upgrade to a newer version of honeycomb. Or you can pre-root the ics version and install that. Dont upgrade to ics through the tablet!!!!

[Q] Updating rom or firmware/radio from 1.13.651.1 to 3.15.651.13? Rooted & S-OFF
Hi XDA,
I just obtained LazyPanda S-OFF (after being rooted and HTCDev Unlocked/S-ON since I got my phone)
I'm still on my original rom and firmware my phone got shipped with, never took an OTA (thank god)
I have Titanium Backup PRO, and TWRP v2.4.1.0 (the latest version)
(I read that someone had to downgrade TWRP to v2.3.3.0 to install the newest JB rom - took him 3 hours of trying with TWRP v2.4.1.0 until he tried v2.3.3.0 and it worked) - Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045929&page=62
Has anyone successfully flashed the new JB rom with the latest TWRP?
AND
If I flash the odexed rom (from -viperboy-) will that include the firmware & radio? If not, should I flash the firmware that won't update/include the newest HBoot? (or do I need the new HBoot?) I'm on LazyPanda's 1.12 (v1.12.xxx - the modded version) Or because I'm S-OFF it doesn't matter if HBoot gets updated/overwritten because I'll still retain root & S-OFF?
I just want to know what files to install, and how to install them properly (please include links and good directions) I already watched wwjoshdew's videos on YouTube.
Thanks in advance, zmag
Roms do not include firmware/radios.
The firmware updates are found here READ thru the last 10-20 pages before you flash any firmware...better to be safe then sorry.
When you are ready to flash use the Full Firmware
There is no need to update your hboot.
I have all my firmware updated including the touch panel drivers and I can use twrp 2.4.1.0 but if you update the touch panel drivers you can ONLY use roms based on 3.16. In order to flash a 3.15 JB rom you would have to flash the older touch panel drivers and use an older version of twrp AFAIK
Re: [Q] Updating rom or firmware/radio from 1.13.651.1 to 3.15.651.13? Rooted & S-OF
You can update firmware from my thread by flashing the latest (3.16) firmware.
As far as ROMs go, with TWRP 2.4.1.0 you won't be able to flash 3.16-based ones with an outdated update binary. If you want a 3.16-based ROM, you can flash MeanBean, or my stock rooted.
If you want to flash a 3.15 base ROM, that should be no problem.
Thank you for the heads up guys!
So I'm going to update just the firmware/radio for now: (with this file) PJ75IMG_Jewel_3.16.651.3_firmware_extended.zip - correct? (Sorry just making sure)

Yes, that is correct.
Thank you for guiding me through this captain throwback, I _finally_ did my first firmware update and everything works great.
I'm still on the original rom, until I decide if I want to update to JB (the touchscreen drivers are what's making me nervous to be honest)
All in all, thank you! I'll read through your thread and direct any further questions there if necessary!
So if I want to install MeanBean, and update the Firmare to 3.16, I can flash MeanBean first, then update the Firmware, correct?
I am on the stock firmware, running the stock OS, and have not taken any OTA's. Is there an issue with flashing the most current firmware, or do I have to "step up" by flashing older firmware updates in sequence until I get to the most current?
Thanks

As long as you use the firmware zips from my thread, you can flash the latest firmware with no problems. The order of flashing ROM versus firmware shouldn't matter.
Hello Everyone,
I'm Noob with RAZR stuff...
i was going through this thread from HSD_Pilot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2188155)
I currently have stock ICS 4.0.4 on AsiaRetail version.
I have no root or anything.
Can i directly use RSD to flash the 4.0.4 Vodafone.EU on my device and update to 4.1.2 Vodafone.EU by following the guide ?
I dont need root, so is it mandatory to root or not ?
If yes, do i have to root 4.0.4 Vodafone.EU and then update ? or Root AsiaRetail 4.0.4 then flash Vodafone.EU 4.0.4 and the upgrade to 4.1.2 with the guide and keep root ?
no Root is Ok to flash from RSD Lite. but for now, i suggest you to take the alternative BMM path (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2188937) , because the ROM is a leak and not officially released yet. so better for you to try things out and go back later. with the pure OTA update, your CDT wil be updated and so you can't go back to ICS if any issue appears. with BMM however, the exact content is there minus the CDT update script so it is easier to flash back to ICS.
