[Q] Tablet S not saving to memory - Sony Tablet S

My tablet will not write anything to memory, its as if its only saving to RAM, until it is full then has to be rebooted. It boots up and operates fine, I can install/uninstall apps, but after a while services will start to crash and I have to reboot. After reboot the tablet is like it was after the last reboot. All of my changes are gone. I have tried to do a soft reset, to wipe all data from with in the OS, and from the Recovery menu. However it still comes up the same state from a few days ago. It is acting like it is a dumb terminal. Do you have any suggestions?
Edit: I am on R5

Can you try to get aLogcat from the play store and try to post it here if you can?

HI everyone!
I have the same issue. I tried the same solutions than ngarre2, even more I tried to root to install prerooted firm but as you know, root process requires restart and every time that I restart I lose the made steps.
I will try to get the alogcat to post it here and I´ll let you now the release that I have installed.
If someone has any new idea to solve this please help us, pleae share it

restart sony
It happend to me last days, after a restart all the settings on screens were gone. Now I have installed a new Launcher - Go Hd for tablets, locked the screen, backedup the settings and restarted. For the moment the setings are all there. But what causes the problem by sony launcher? Is the firmware? I am on 5a without root.

Hi!
I tried MarioNico´s workaround and I still have the same issue.
Another solution that I tried was install the original OTA trought the stock recovery, and all commands were execute correctly (writing in system1, etc etc etc), but when it finish and restart to run for the first time the upgrade, guess what... I have the older system :crying:
I don´t know what can I do... Please help!!
(my model is SGPT121 and I´m in R4)

Did you tried a factory reset? Why are you on R4 and not on R5? over R4 you have the possibility to root your tab and install a custom rom.

Hi MarioNico,
Yes I did, I already tried a factory reset (trought system options and stack recovery) but after the restart I have the same system than before.
I am still in R4 becouse I can´t upgrade, I tried trought system update and trought the stock recovery with the original OTA, and every step works ok, but when I restart I have the same system again.
About the root, as you know, requires restart, so every time that It restarts I lose the made steps and I have the same system than before.
:crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: I don´t know what else can I do
Thanks in advance for any idea to solve this!!!

It seems like the issue is not caused by the system and the kernel.
Unfortunately it could be the bootloader or other hardware with other firmware built in to it.

Sorry, I haven't been on here in a while. I had a friend, who is a unix engineer, look at the tablet and he said he can see where the file system is corrupt and not able to write anything to which ever folder it writes changes to. He said he could fix it if I had root, but I have R5 and have never had it rooted.
Is it possible to completely wipe the harddrive of everything? Or maybe replace the harddrive?

Sony's tablets do not have hard drives, they have solid-state memory storage. As for completely wiping the memory, I have never attempted doing that. Most likely all you will end up with is an expensive brick. Perhaps you should just send your tablet to Sony for repair.

Sorry I still call solid state hard drives, hard drives. The tablet isn't under warranty any more and I don't want to have to pay Sony to fix it when, I could try and fix it cheaper.

If it is rooted you can reflash the pre-rooted rom.

Technically it isnt even a solid state drive, its just a flash memory (2 little chips on the board)

If it was SSD then the R/W would be instantaneously fast but it is flash memory for a reason.

[Q] How do I ask a question without my thread being closed?

k, thats not the real question, but its the third time I am asking this question:
[Q] How can I solve the 'unable to start wifi' problem without having to reset to factory defaults?
-Wifi just wont start
-All stock phone, no mods
-New no drops
-Turning off and on again does nothing
Can someone please answer my question before this thread gets shut down with little to no explanation?
Repair with seus or pc companion or flash with flash tool. Links to all 3 from in the guide in my signature

Flashing with seus or pc companion yes definitely you would still have warrenty. With flashtool, no, you need root to flash which voids your warranty. I would try seus first and if that hasn't fixed it return the phone to where you purchased it. This might fix your wierd google problem too which iv never heard of before.
Edit
Flashing with sues will wipe all data, games, sms so you want an app called my back up which saves your apps, games, sms etc but not game save points. Root is required to do that...

But flashing with SEUS also wipe user data, like factory reset, just for info.

It is so much faster to solve problems when people are actually willing to fix them.
It's like saying, how can I fix my cars brakes without removing anything and using no tools.
A better question would be how do I backup the following so that I can run SEUS and reinstall 2.1....then start listing the apps you want to backup. For some apps, all you need to do is copy the data.
Most apps store their stuff on the SDCard, and that doesn't get touched when you use SEUS and reflash. But better be safe and mount the phone on your computer and copy all stuff off the phone.
Backup your contacts (sync using your gmail account) or you can go that extra step (which is a pain and really isn't needed unless you need to backup txt messages) and you would need to root and install something like Titanium Plus and backup with it.
The solution to your problem (if you have already tried reseting your router and changing the password or encryption on the router.,...even when it works on some other device) is to wipe it clean.
Thanks for info.
So this seems to be a deeper issue I presume. I will try to rest my router and change the encryption - its just weird how i works one moment then just stops.
Btw, do X10 phones have a hard reset? So the iphone has one where you hold the top button it will reset your phone like you restart a computer, can this be done with the X10?
Yup. Go under Settings->Privacy
But a factory reset isn't as good as a complete reflash using SEUS from Sony.
I have fixed 3 phones by logging into a router admin page, and changing the encryption from WPA2-PSK to WPA-PSK or changing from WEP 64 bit to 32 bit.

Is there a restart method that wont erase your data? But one that isnt "power off" then "power on"?
I had an iphone before and the hard boot method virtually solves every problem
I've checked out the sony ericson official problems, and a lot of people are having this problem
Looks like a hardware issue.... I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that its not, and that Gingerbread will answer my prayers
Right well, SEUS and PC companion didn't do it, BUT I turned the phone off, then removed the battery, sim, and SD card. Waited about a minute, then put it back together.
And for some reason it all works now.... thank god.
Otherwise, Thanks for the help everyone!

Unresponsive screen, dead PC connection, more.

Hello people, I really hope you can help me out on this one. I own the Sony Xperia U, which I had succesfully bootloader unlocked and rooted months ago. It had been runing ICS smoothly and everything was working great, until two days ago, when the screen started ocasionally missing/ignoring taps/sweeps. It was a real pain to type since it would miss a letter or more in every word I typed. I decided to do a factory reset, and so did I. The problem was not fixed. Now, I'm dealing with more: My computer does absolutely nothing when I connect the XU, and the phone itself only recognizes a charger. The same in debugging mode. Superuser does not work (can't get root access despite it says it has granted the rights), I can't even uninstall Superuser. What are my options? Can I somehow flash some things and do a full reset of the phone? I have CWM Recovery installed!
Thanks in advance!
PS: The main ambition is to get rid of everything but the screen problem. I'll probably replace the digitizer after that.
Anyone? Sorry for second post!
Proberly hardware problem. But you unlocked your bootloader and your pc is now as good as nothing. Just pay for the repair :-\

Well, I would recommend to flash stock again to remove root and relocking the bootloader and if the problem gets solved, root it again.

[Q] Am I Bricked/SoftBricked, Or lose my OS ? Please help.thanks

Please be patient,& Gentle with me, I'm new here,,, (TY) Hi, I have a Pantech P9060 (old I know ) Android 2.3.4 , Gingerbread( Stock Rom). It's rooted. It will turn on, load in the boot screen- and stop there, and if I touch the power/menu keys, it will start the loop acting boot process, without re-starting the phone , just continuous boot screen. I have changed the boot screen probably 3/4 times from the original AT&T screen using Jimmy Rummel apps, Rom Installer . I've tried returning back from backup, Titanium Pro, I backed up to google drive as well, but regardless I can't seem to reset to factory( which I've done before), or even update, Nothing.. It's so frustrating. I've searched these forums inside out for a solution as to not bother you guys with my old phone issues, but I have to admit, I need help with this. I don't think it's hard bricked, I'm thinking I may have flashed the wrong Rom( im not sure though) trying to upgrade from 2.3.4 .. Not positive though. I sure hope there's someone to help me here, It wont connect to the PC syncing, Pantech PC Suite, yet my pc shows the phone in Device Manager and Computer. So I'm hoping I've done something simple, :/ stupid,,but simple. Anyone help me out ? Don't think that there are any custom updates. I found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IOQJJCSKC4 - Sorry it's not in English, but it's the only thing I found that actually had a download of the rom. Even Pantech doesn't seem to have anything besides the manual and drivers for it.
Thanks

If the device powers up but is not able to boot into the operating system, that is referred to as a soft brick.

No friend...its not rooted
Your phone seems to be stuck in a bootloop.
Press the Power button+Volume up button and hold, till you get a screen which is the recovery screen!
Now, you should be able to see options like Wipe Cache, and Factory reset.
In order to get out of this bootloop situation, first tap on Clear Cache.
Then tap on Factory reset.
THIS METHOD WILL DELETE ALL USER DATA.
But you can't really backup anything since you don't have access to the phone.
Try this out, and keep me posted.

Download flashtool, flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2489955
Set it up correctly and instal;l the drivers.
Download the ftf file for YOUR DEVICE, use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...xperifirm-xperia-firmware-downloader-t2834142 ,or the last tab at the top of the flashtool.
Once you have found it, click it and download it by clicking it on the far right, make sure unpack automatically is checked.
Let it download and then flash tool will assemble it as the ftf file for you, and it will be in the correct folder. Cick the lightning button and select flash mode, select the ftf file that should apear in the list.
Folow the on screen instructions, it will take a while to flash, once finished it will say "unlug and reboot phone£
Do that and your done.
Cant fail with the flash tool
Let me know how you get on. Goodluck.
is your display ok (no small hairline cracks UNDER glass)?
I did all from your instructions and even try repair option in PC Companion but, had no errors but my e2303 remains stuck on the Sony logo (looping). I bought the phone online second hand and it arrived like that. I did bootloader unlock procedure in flashtool successfully and when i run it again it offers relock now so i assume it was good. However, if i try sony official bootloader unlock instructions via adb, i get error. I guess it's debug over usb and unknown sources related but since i can't boot to system there is no way to check that.
I'll mention i did try several ftf versions and all flashing went without errors (as with pc companion repair) but no result. Did i got scammed totally (i know i am as the phone should be working) and bought a phone that even can't get repaired?
Help guys
Do you have deleted or disabled my Xperia app before unlock? Maybe beacause this. I read when unlock and active my Xperia, phone is like paperweight
I got the phone like this, stuck on Sony/Xperia logo so i don't know what happened and what is the cause
Hi,
Apparently this is a more frequent issue than I'd have thought.... A relative of mine brought me his M4 Aqua e2303 with the same symptoms: it tries to boot, shows the Sony Logo (Xperia on the bottom of the screen) and it just loops. Screen goes off-then-on and the same thing. I've tried EVERYTHING. Bootloader was locked, so as a desperate measure I even unlocked it via Flashtool. First I tried Sony PC Companion App and automatic repair. It went smoothly but the phone was still stuck, then I flashed the last ROM via Flashtool. Again, everything went OK, but the phone was still stuck. I flashed a different ROM, the European Press version, since it's a little bit older, and suddenly something changed. The boot sequenced advanced from the Sony Screen to the waves screen, even with the music, but it just freezes and reboots itself 3 or 4 seconds after the blue-ish waves screen appears and the melody starts playing. Fastboot works, and I even pushed a custom recovery image. It boots, works, touchscreen and everything, and I can wipe everything (which I even did) but to no positive result. I've read about theft protection bricking some M4 Aqua phones, but this one had a locked bootloader, so it's out of the question (I think)
I'm absolutely dumbfounded... the only thing that comes to mind at this point is a hardware failure. My relative got the screen replaced, but everything was working fine after that, so I guess some cable/ribbon/whatever could get loose over time? Any idea?
I've learned a lot reading this thread and XDA Dev generally. Thanks, guys, great community.
hi,
i got to this problem too - M4 E2303:
1) unlocked bootloader
2) played around with the infinite possibilities of an unlocked bootloader.
3) killed android one way or another (debloating by hand, etc) - but it all worked again, thanks to the custom recovery
4) repeated step 3 a few times, until i liked the result
5) when creating the backup in recovery mode, the phone overheated constantly - so i submerged it
and this is how it went sour... i am still not sure, if the killing blow was dealt by heat, water or some other action - the phone just shuts down when i start it, while custom recovery works. flashing works also - over fastboot and the normal fashmode.
the interresting part is, that after flashing the bl back to locked even the sony recovery tool accepted it and flashed it again - but it won't boot anything else, just recovery (after unlocking and flashing it again, of course)
the only possibly useful info i got for you, is this log message in the twrp-console, which i did notice since then:
unable to recreate and-sec folder
maybe this helps others to identify the problem/solution for these strange bootloops
p.s.: even though it is only one possibility for what killed my phone: DO NOT use "the waterproof phone"(tm) under water
p.p.s: Cyanogenmod 12.1 works (well, as "well" as on any other m4) - i just installed that from an sdcard via twrp
I have a xperia m4 aqua, it have the same problems, but I´m thinking if a break glass or a crack has something to see with this problem, can you e-mail me? [email protected] please.
Hey, mine is also stuck in a bootloop.
had the wifi of for 3 days straight. Next time switching wifi on the phone just shuts down and gets stuck in a bootloop for like 45-60 minutes. Wifi is off, as soon as I activate wifi again. Same all over.
Any suggestions?
Did a restore from the original software also with other versions.
I guess its a hardware problem. But no glue how and why
got same problem here, could it be because glass is cracked?

Ahm i have the same problem too. Please tell me how to use flash tools on mac os
Hello everyone,
I have the same problem. It started when i saw that i had no 4G internet connection, so i thought lets restart my phone and yes now its in the bootloop .
I tried all kinds of resets, i tried to flash my phone which i did with succes, but still have the bootloop.
Now i have some questions:
- when did your bootloop started?
- Did u play pokemon Go?
- Was your phone warm or cold?
- Could it be a storage thats full?
- Do i have to bring my phone back or do i have to buy a new one?
- Could it be an software update that caused this?
The pokemon go thing is because it is a possibility that the game overheated your phone and maybe some hardware got damaged because of that.
i'm not sure of this, but there is a great change that thats the problem.
Hope we find the answer.

Hello, all!
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to send it back for an exchange, but I tried to wipe the cache partition on my brand new ASUS ZenFone and got impatient. On top of that I forgot to allow USB debugging. So here's what I did, and the problems I'm facing now:
I installed the latest OTA update that was sent
After three hours of trying to find a fix for the notification glitch, I arose to the solution that it was a permanent bug, however seen many reports of clearing the cache to help
Assuming it was the system cache, I powered the phone down and booted into fastboot, then into recovery using a tutorial found on YouTube
I got into the F:/Cache partition by moving the cursor down and selecting "Wipe Cache Partition"
The process was taking longer than expected, so I powered off the phone in what I feel is a catastrophic failure
Problems:
Bootloader is corrupt with only showing the "dead" android with it flashing slow and constantly
Unable to access recovery mode anymore (see above problem)
Able to access fastboot, but no USB Debugging is turned on
ADB can't access the device (most likely because of the USB Debug. turned off.)
I am NOT rooted and DO NOT have a custom ROM like CyanogenMOD
is there any helping the poor thing or do I have to send it back? Thank you for reading if you got this far.
sincerely,
J
Hello
I did the same thing and fixed it by plugging the phone in fastboot mode and typing the following command : fastboot erase cache
I was then able to go back to recovery and flash a full stock rom with adb sideload
Hope it does the trick for you

Thank you for your reply.. TBH, I have no idea how it works, but it does all of a sudden. The first thing I did, tho, was enable USB Debugging. Goddess this was a long and tedious possess that I hope I don't have to go through again.. This is a great case and point where Apple wins in simplicity. But, yes, to that hater who's reading this: I did know what I was doing, I've rooted many androids before, I just got careless.

Only when Apple works, had my little brother pulling out his hair trying to get an iphone to downgfrade after the upgrade pretty much pissed all over the actual using of the phone for calls... To make matters worse, it was his work phone and he'd just got through updating everyone's phone at the company...
Simple way to go bald and loose a job....

Actually it depends on how much you want to get out of your phone. The more you get the trickier it gets. Most people won't run into those troubles because they just got what manufacturers give to them.

Thank you for reading if you got this far.
sincerely,
J

Exactly bro! In learning about androids full potential, its all about trial & errors. By the way, speaking of Apple. IPhones are too simple for advanced users/geeks like us [emoji12]
