Hello guys, i have a question for you.
The situation of my phone is this:
NOT-unlocked bootloader
CWM recovery
.587 baseband
OctanE ROM v5
I want to try Jelly bean, so i must unlock the bootl.
Should I install stock rom before the operation? Or can I maintain mine?
No need to flash stock ROM again... Just unlock your bootloader... There's a complete guide by mihahn in the stickies
And then flash JB specific kernel and flash JB ROM

After flashing kernel, does recovery work well? Because on the old x10 mini there were some conflicts.

Hi guys...
Last week my xperia mini ST15i just updated to 4.1.B.0.587
I am going to root, unlock bootloader and install custom rom on my phone, but looks like there is no clear instruction on how to root it...
I did found some instruction though, but i am not sure which is good :
1) http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792 (Should I follow the method for 4.1.B.0.431 ?)
3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923409
Which method i should follow?
And lastly, should I unlock the bootloader before root or after rooting?
Many thanks...
Look in my signature there's how to unlock bootloader.
You needn't root it before, but if I were you I would downgrade to gingerbread before unlocking bootloader, after that flash a prerooted kernel like rage kernel for gingerbread and your device will automaticly be rooted

Thanks for your reply... :good:
What the different if I root it straight from ICS?
Those prerooted kernel comes with CWM recovery right?

No there's no difference, do it on the software version you want.
Yes these prerooted kernels will root your device automaticly and cwm is built in the kernel

1. No difference. You'll just have ics firmware . You can just unlock your bootloader the official way while in ics and just like that flash a custom prerooted ics kernel .
2. And yes all custom kernels for our device has cwm .
No need to downgrade to ginger bread just for gaining root access if you are going to unlock bootloader!
hit thanks if I've helped!

I would use this method, but you need an .ftf of .587 for your device, if you have one, do it like explained there.
The kernel trick method is okay, too
I suggest you unlock your bootloader first by this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613
(it directly unlocks bootloader without writing any commands)
And then install a prerooted kernel via the above mentioned toolkit...
Your will be rooted and then just flash the custom ROM
And the best part... You don't need to downgrade to GB

Okay. then, do this.
Choose any ROM you like.
Flash via Flashtools base firmware(If you choose a GB rom then Flash any Gingerbread Stock Firmware, if you choose an ICS then flash any ICS Stock Firm..)
Flash any compatible kernel
Turn your phone on and enter cwm Recovery
Flash te ROM and do all wipes that ROM requires(its on OP of the ROM you 've selected)
Reboot and hope it works well!
Hope this can solve your problem

FYI : if you already unlock the bootloader, you don't have to root it anymore....just flash any custom kernel into your phone...all custom kernel is pre-rooted and have CWM be default....
flash any custom kernel first, then you can install any custom roms or official roms with losing your root....
hello, do u fix it? i have similar problem with original firms. with android 4.0 doesnt work, its start rebooting and downgroun in 2.3.4 works better but its reboot too.
how can i do???
thanks
sorry for my poor english.

If you were able to flash the rage kernel and DDS kernel then that means that you have an unlocked kernel. Also if you are able to boot into fastboot then you have an unlocked bootloader.

Or you connect it in fastboot mode to flashtool, it should say Bootloader Status: Rooted (or simliar) :good:

I relocked my boot loader using this thread

I used official method for unlock my BL
Then I again unlocked my bootloader..after that the phone turns on normally. please tell me what to do??
I'm on rage kernel 3.0 and stock gingerbread
I want stock ICS are there any method for flashing stock ICS without using

If you're using a custom kernel then it wont boot after relocking, so you need to flash a stock kernel and a ROM that works on it.
