Even so, JellyBean for the Xperia Tab is still a fair distance off, second week into February. It was said at launch last IFA it would be out by December and even so it'll be 4.1.2....

Hopefully Sony will tell how to unlock the bootloader. Unlikely though
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda app-developers app

Would be nice, they have done for their mobiles, so don't see why the tablet would be any different. Just root would be nice on R6B for the Xperia Tab.

CRAP!!!
But I like the "when you update you CAN'T go back as the firmware updates the hardware" lol idiots. @8.15
Condi will save us Org Tab S

I just hope they fix this annoying freeze/shutdown bug. Paid lots of money for the xperia tab s and I am distraught how slow Sony is in implementing solutions..

If that is a case, the majority of the customers will broken-hearted.

Sony better get the bootloader unlock and allow it to get rooted easily has a last gift. :/
I mean really?, even CyanogenMod can create a better custom rom then Sony obviously.
Why is Sony doing this, it does not matter about the old hardware "not supported" excuse, it would work anyway, they just ether don't care about the S1 or they are just being plain lazy even though they gave a lot of updates to the device. o.o

Perhaps the S and P are tragedies.
It's no doubt that all the attentions of Sony are focused on the Xperia Tablet.

Well am i glad i have the xperia tablet s and not the non xperia.
I cant wait for jellybean

Whilst it is disappointing not to get JB, it's not the end of the world
I've an HTC One X+ with JB and it's not that different. The Sony S hasn't lost anything, email still works, browsing still works, apps still work, it still plays music and video
I suspect the low sales of the S means that it's not cost effective to spend time developing and to be honest it really doesn't surprise me.
It is more disappointing that we can't yet install custom ROM's

BORING
Just release it already.
or better jet just unlock boot loader and allow root access, so we all can move on with our life instead of heaving to wait and hang on every word spoken by any boring lame Sony employe

Problem, there are still bugs in the system like Walkman image flickering bug, music player audio limitation block with loudspeaker which is a bad bug caused by the new audio modules, browser cannot handle too much PHP and much more.
Jelly Bean has alot of features like disabling notifications on any application (Useful to stop airpush), faster, UI is much better and much more features.

Bugs in the system are not ICS/JB specific. They just need Sony to pull their finger out and sort.
As for more features, still not a convincing argument really. When the S came out it had HC which was good enough at the time so why would the tablet now not be good enough, especially since it's got ICS. I still say it does everything it did at launch.
Which features in JB would suddenly make the S 'that' much better.
Look, I'm not saying Sony is right not to add JB but I still maintain it's not that big a deal

If this is true, then Sony are idiots. Especially since their customer support representatives told everyone who asked that the Tablet S1, model number SGPT111US/S, would receive JB in February of 2013...I don't understand the poor support for Sony tablets compared with the Xperia phones. It doesn't make sense.

Thank you for your recent feedbacks. In response to your concern to have open source operating system on the Tablet so you can modify it, we regret to inform you that this is not possible to accomplish. While you might be able to handle and perform advanced tasks with Android operating system, other customers do not have the same technical knowledge you do have.

Jelly Bean for Xperia P, U, Sola & Go Discussion

Figured we should have an official JB thread on this forum.
Till now there has been no word from Sony on Jelly Bean for our devices. Your thoughts ?
Please read this before posting stuff unrelated to topic:

I think that JB is not comming this year, since Sony just recently released ICS, and not for all devices yet (mine, Xperia U, will come only on September)... So only on 2013... Sad though.

Indeed. It's really down to device drivers. Now Sony are using their own inhouse stuff, (Thor chipset), it may happen quicker. Also ICS is not that different from Jellybean (unlike Gingerbread -> ICS).
I would say it's a safe bet to see ICS on at least the Xperia S before the end of the year.
Even more-so given Sony's intent to up their game in the mobile market. If they truely want to be king of the hill, they need great hardware (which I believe they are now doing), AND great software delivered on time. (still W.I.P)

I have bought XMP in April 2012 with great hope. I have used SE K550i for 6 years without any trouble and that's why I chose XMP as my first smartphone. I have waited for the ICS update with great expectations that it will empower my XMP to the full potential. But Sony disheartened me, like most of the people out there with a 2011 xperia device.
Then I thought that they are going to make things better by providing us with a buttery-smooth JB release, since 2011 xperia devices are only 1 year old at the time of announcing the JB by Google. But today I learned that we will not be getting the JB update. This is a bad move from Sony. They may not realize this but consumers these days are smart and well-informed. I bet all the 2012 xperia users are happy now, but soon they will realize that their smartphones will be as cramped as the 2011 xperias with ICS update. Also, they will be rejected just like us after only a year (or even less) from now. Moreover, as I understand form their official announcement on this matter, even Xperia U won't get the JB update (they have excluded this name from their list).
However, I will wait for Kamarush for the JellyXProject he promised.

Yes I think Apple's support is really good, but if you see a nexus phone it's the same. I mean the nexus s got the jelly bean update :good:
Guys, this is nothing new. The previous line of Xperias (X8, X10 mini + pro,...) were stuck on android 2.1 from sony. There was no official support from CyanogenMod, FXP moved to newer line of phones, yet the comunity keeps the development on and there are already CM10 ROMs. I had X8 and hated Sony for this. Now i have mini pro and I don't care about Sony, they gave us great hardware for great price. People there will keep it comming, just show some support to the devs, send them few bucks, at least for a beer, just to show appreciation.

Or if you like me, Razr Maxx is not such a bad deal either
About Nexus Phone, i understand that there are peoples who likes pure Android experience. But it is truly for enthusiasts who are willing to add any feature by himself. For casual user though, if you already have satisfying experience with some maker's interface/functionality (Small Apps or Smart Action), the Nexus is lacking though.. But that's just my opinion..

Yeah agree, but I need a phone under 250 Euros. And by the way I'm an extreme fan of pure Android/ pure AOSP roms, but I love Sony phones and every stuff. I've got sony PlayStations, TV, media player, Radio, Hifi etc. . I would choose Galaxy nexus if it would be cheaper than 250 EUR. Any recommendations under 250.-EUR?
I've also been looking for a replacement for my Ray and I've found some interesting chinese devices ( not copies ) that look extremely good and with great prices...only bad thing is that their development section is almost inexistent...

Sadly I can't keep it, it's a pain that I could never try Android 4.2, and lots of roms for Ray which I should give a try. I'm happy and I bought my Sola, waiting for amazon 2 ship it, but sadly realized that Sola has almost no development. Only rethemed roms by noobs, a miui port, and the FXP cm9 which is buggy as hell and lots of things not working. But I think Sola is great enough to use without custom roms. Sony promised JB so I ain't got no worries.

Confirmed Jelly Bean update and ETA for SGPT111US/S!

So I emailed Sony today asking if there was any new information available concerning an Android Jelly Bean 4.1/4.2 update for the original Sony Tablet S, model number SPGPT111US/S, and they replied with this: "I'm glad to inform you that the Android 4.1, Jelly Bean Update is scheduled for release in the second week of Feb 2013. The update will be available very soon and you will be notified with the notifier in the Tablet." If you don't believe me, email them yourself, and I can upload a screenshot if you would like. But I do swear that this is the response I received, and while I wish the update would come sooner, I'm very glad we Tablet S owners finally have A) An actual confirmation that we will be receiving JB for sure and B) A somewhat concrete release date. February seems so far away...
Cheers!

February is a considerably long distance away when you consider when JB first came out.
In my view, it was a revolution in android software. Google Now, Project Butter, its enough to make any device sell.
Wonder if this is the same as the XXperia Tab that was promised in 2012.

Well, in russian 4pda news about JB for SPGT11* was posted in september or early, but thanks, now we know the date.
The only thing that spoils my mood about this thing - obviously sony will include new recovery in JB update, and it's no good for users who wants to have an ability to flash their tablets with some tools like AiO... And I pretty sure that release of JB for my SPGT114RU/S (16+3G) will come with some kind of delays... Eh, never mind.

And secondly, I am not obsessed with updates. However, I do like having the latest version of Android. If you're one of those people that can feel fine about being stuck in Android 2.3, then all the more power to you. But I'm just not that way, and there's nothing wrong with that. Besides, why are you replying to this thread if you don't care? Seems like you've got too much time on your hands.
Having used the nexus s and now on a galaxy nexus, I can testify to how great an improvement jb is over ics. Much smoother and a good sized improvement in battery life, even when using generic AOSP builds. I do hope Sony gives 4.2a thought though... there's lots of tablet only features that would be a good fit for this device, particularly while the nexus 10 remains hard to get.

I just hope someone can work out how to root a tablet S thats already done the r5a update, before JB comes out.
I hate having a bunch of stock rubbish put on after an update. but on the other hand, my bluetooth works properly again. i was having problems listening to music in the car (I had to exit and reopen the music player every time i reconnected to the headunit)
Awesome, can't wait!

Why are you still here, man? You've already said that this topic is pointless because you don't care about JB. I fail to see how replying to your post was me taking it "waaaaaaaaayyyyyy to personally".
Now ure putting words in my mouth I said neither of those things. And if you read the my later posts I said it might be pre cool. I took a look at a few reviews on youtube and I can see why people are excited about this one.

I apologize; I replied without reading your later posts. That was my fault I do wish you'd researched a little about JB before initially denouncing it in my thread, but that's alright because you know what's up now. We cool, dude.

Well, the Sony Tablet and Xperia S may get Jelly Bean this year, not too far to go but after emailing Sony Support about all root stuff like root (Obviously), Bootloader, custom recoverys, custom roms, how all the root stuff can benefit and much more, just hopefully Sony will make the tablet more rootable and finally get the bootloader unlocked.
I also explained about the development.

Sony need to get their head out of their poophole and start rolling out devices that are easly rooted with a bit less preloaded crap etc. etc. Software and the missing dev is what i hate about sonys tabs.

It is so simple just to let the device be much easy to be rootable.
I have a feeling that Sony is hidding something...
We are people and they are treating us has comsumers (has we are lol) but they are not really telling the bits and blobs we need.

I did say 'MAY' in my other post, I had the feeling this day may come.
The Sony Tablet S is not getting Jelly Bean with the excuse "The hardware is not powerful enough" or something.
That is the worse excuse ever, lots of Armv7 devices has Jelly Bean but no, Sony will not do anything about it abandoning the device, no root and no unlocked bootloader. :/

The "hardware support" is a flimsy excuse, the MOTO XOOM also can run JB!
So, if they give us an excuse about that, we can't see the sincerity of Sony.
The acer b1 which costs 120 dollars and has a 1 ghz dual core processor runs jb, but the tablet s doesnt. Lol
