I would like to remap the hardware Search button to Recent Apps, but the system/usr/217 method isn't working, nor is it in the system settings. Anyone able to get this to work? I'm on PA 2.56. Thanks!

A friend of mine is running a build of ics on his razr. He can't seem to find a way to access the recent apps menu on the razr. He tried holding home but no avail. Are there any apps to remap a function to the capacitive button?

Press and hold home button.
...I specifically stated he said that does nothing.

Just edit the keyboard file. You can remap the keys that way. My search button opens my camera.
I have been looking everywhere but I still have yet to find anything. I have a galaxy note 2 and I enabled the on screen buttons, disabled the capacitive buttons and would love to remap the hardware home button to open !utter while my on screen buttons work normally fine. Is there anyway I can do this? I have tried button remapper but there's no option for apps only core functions such as home, back, menu, etc.

Nova Launcher
try the Nova Launcher app. I'm too new to be allowed to post a link to it...
I just flashed AOKP, but the only way I can find a menu button is to enable the NavBar. Is there a way to make the recent apps short press be the menu button and make recent apps long press?

You need to edit the buttons in system/user/keylayout.
That pathway is not even close to what u need but if you search the thread you'll find the correct path

System/usr/keylayout/synaptics-rmi-touchscreen.kl
Edit were it says APP-SWITCH to MENU save an reboot but you will lose the press and hold for recent apps
Also why you not give root box ROM a try it has all AOKP features plus the option you're looking for like in CM10 to remap these button

is anyone know if you can remap the hard buttons on stock rom. I like to be able to press the home button and bring up the Google now menu
You can press and hold and it will bring up 3 options one of them being google.

You can also get "home2 shortcut" which will allow you to use double tap to open any app. I use it to make google now my voice search

you can also edit what the buttons do if you are rooted just edit /system/urs/keylayout/generic.kl AND /system/usr/keylayout/gpiokeys.kl to have the buttons be whatever you like the main buttons are 139 menu 158 back and 172 home. Make sure you dont erase the wake or wake_dropped if you want them to work like before. You can erase it if you want the home button to not wake up the phone.
You can also bring up the on screen keys like a tablet with one line to build.prop if you want. Just add "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" to the end of build.prop and the on screen keys will appear on reboot

Is it possible to map the home button to something else other than S Voice?
I am aware one can disable S Voice from starting when one long presses the home button, and I have checked out Google, and it seems a previous utility Button Remapper or something like that is no longer available.

You can use Xpose framework with Wanam module to replace Svoice with another application.
Thanks, tried but could not get it to launch the app. Not sure what went wrong
