Hello everyone. I recently found a handy little tool that allows to actually change the DPI on virtually any app you have installed. This works on any rom, be it stock, custom stock, or aosp. Can also be odexed or deodexed.
This is not created by me, but by Rovo89 and Tungstwenty. They have both spent lots of time creating the base framework, and the modules that go along with the actual application. Buy them a beer! They have done an amazing job!
I present to you Xposed Framework!!!
Link to original thread to check for updates, see changelog, and for source code for the app itself: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
Technical Information
They have extended the /system/bin/app_process executable to load a JAR file on startup. The classes of this file will sit in every process (including the system_server) and can act with their powers. And even more: They have implemented something that allows developers to replace any method in any class (may it be in the framework, systemui or a custom app). This makes Xposed very powerful, it is basically running in "god mode". You can change parameters for the method call, modify the return value or skip the call to the method completely - it's all up to you! Also replacing or adding resources is easy.
Download for the Xposed Installer Framework app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401 (at the bottom attached to the thread)
All Modules can be found here: http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/microdownloads/
I have not tested many, only the dpi one as that was the only one I was really interested in at the time I saw this. Right side of the forum under App Modifications, called Xposed App Settings.
How to install:
For the framework:
Download XposedInstaller.apk and install it
Launch the Xposed Installer and click on "Install/Update"
Reboot
Done!
For any modifications/modules you want to install:
Download <module>.apk and install it
Launch the Xposed Installer and go to the "Modules" tab (you will also get there if you click on the notification saying that the module isn't enabled yet)
Enable by checking the checkbox
Reboot
Done
In case you get boot loops:
You can flash Xposed-Disabler-CWM.zip by Tungstwenty which is attached in the main thread. It will be copied to your (external) SD card when you install Xposed as well. The only thing it does is copying /system/bin/app_process.orig back to /system/bin/app_process, which you can also do yourself (e.g. with adb shell in recovery mode).
There are instructions on the main thread to create your own modules for the app if you feel there is something missing that you would like to see. The original thread also has addition links to other pages for information.
Screenshots:
Attached to the thread as well. All are taken running Nocturnal Rom, Gmail is proof that the module shown in the screenshots works.
Hopefully you all enjoy it as much as I have! If you are anything like me, and are antsy to get ahold of Paranoid Android, AOKP, or even CM, hopefully this will hold you over till we get them.
Again, thank the two developers of this awesome mod, Rovo89 and Tungstwenty!

I bet if you open the zip with Root Explorer you'd be able to extract the .apk and then install it.

Cool, now I'm having some fun. Thanks. Feels like I'm on PA again.
I'm enabling tablet mode for Gmail and it's not changing after I hit save. Is there a value I have to put in for the dpi?
Edit: Nevermind, I got it. I didn't change the resolution. For anybody wanting to try it I set my settings to this:
DPI: 230
Resolution: 600x1024
Tablet Mode: enabled

What is it? Okay, well kenjesse put it best with this description : " Pdroid is an app that lets you modify permissions app by app with out breaking them. You also have the option of "spoofing" the permissions by sending randomly generate data rather than your phones actual sim, meid, phone #, etc.
As the app does not need to run constantly in the back ground it has virtually no impact on battery.
To check out the original thread:

On the next page of this thread I have posted the patch zip necessary to install the pdroid app on CM7 for DX2 only!!! I will make patch zips for other roms upon request but it can be done easily by following kenjesse's instructions below. After flashing the zip just download and install pdroid from the play store ......viola! Thanks for stopping by and happy flashing!
Looks like a pretty cool program. I've read other post that reference making changes like this, always wondered how. Wonder if this is one way, I'd assume there are other ways too.

Just got done installing this and it seems to be working great. I'm running CM7 with no special tweaks other than Moon Shadows wifi fix, following instructions from op here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357056
this is what I did:
1. DL Pdroid Patcher zip to PC (Win7 in my case)
2. Extract Pdroid Patcher exe file and run
3. Browse to update-cm-7.2.0.-RCO-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip (cm7 ROM) and select.
4. Click "Patch" (program takes about 2 minutes to create required patch zip file as well as restore file if you choose to uninstall Pdroid later)
5. copy the 2 created zip files (PDroid-v1.31-update-cm-7.2.0-RCO-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip & PDroid-RESTORE-update-cm-7.2.0-RCO-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip) to your external SD Card
6. Boot in our BSR BACKUP...BACKUP DO A NANDROID BACKUP!!!!
7. Flash the PDroid zip file
8. I did not wipe anything as it is not stated to do so in the OP install instruction... I did flash cm7 reRecovery before I rebooted just to be safe.
9. Reboot your phone, go to market and install Pdroid.
I tested by removing several permissions for my Fox News app which doing thru cm7 causes the app to break, using PDroid the app still worked. Not sure how to test beyond that.
I did notice that the reboot stayed on the cm7 animation for a while before the phone came back up as if a dalvik wipe had been done.
Hope this helps and if you break it it's your fault not mine and remember...BACKUP
You are awesome! Thank you very much for giving this attention, I can't wait to follow the steps you've listed when I get home. Thanks again

Quick update... there is a setting in the app to display anytime an app request access to private data. With this turned on it shows access being denied to my Fox News app and the app runs fine. This really is an awesome app.

He probably should update the op title. Pdroid is an app that lets you modify permissions app by app with out breaking them. You also have the option of "spoofing" the permissions by sending randomly generate data rather than your phones actual sim, meid, phone #, etc.
As the app dose not need to run constantly in the back ground it has virtually no impact on battery.
I highly recommend it, for what that is worth. Check it out at:

Beautifully put. Hey, I would update the op title but it's not letting me from the mobile app. I will later when I'm on my laptop.
Hey, how did you spoof the permissions? Don't see that option within the settings. I just see symbols without descriptions (gear, bar graph, check, ect...)?
Just to add, I don't know if it's just in my head or not but I feel like my phone is moving way faster After changing all the permissions that I did.
........and last, I'm going to post the patch zip file for cm7 dx2 when I get home so all anyone needs to do is flash it and download pdroid from the market (Google play (stupid name)....whatever). Okay all done.
Sent from my MB870 using XDA
Settings options are:
Check = allow
Graph = random spoof
Gear= set the spoof value
Slashed Circle= block
And then there is a check box in the top right corner to enable notifications for just that app.

Okay, here are the zips. Just flash the first of the 2 zips in CM7 recovery and then install the Pdroid app. The second zip is just to restore. I'm not responsible if you break your phone...blah blah blah.....THIS IS ONLY FOR CM7DX2 (but if anyone wants I will make zips for any rom on dx2, just ask.)!

Thanks for the help Kenjesse!
So please help me clarify what setting should I set the apps to? Also do I need to do them one at a time or can I do it by batch?
Okay, what I have been doing is blocking ALL permissions for any given app and then trying to run it. I then look for any error messages and go back and enable only those specific permissions to allow the app to function properly. You'll get a system once you use it a bit. .....and unfortunately there is no batch function. It is a very cool app though once you play with it and definitely enable the function where you can see it blocking and granting permissions. It's pretty cool!
........and someone please tell me how to change the title of this post please

Flashing The update zip makes the required changes for the app Pdroid that you get from the market to run properly with the cm7 ROM. IT WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU ARE ON CM7. If you later uninstall Pdroid you flash the restore zip to remove the changes made by the update zip.
I believe it is done this way so the app can work without root permission and therefore doesn't have to run in the background....I could be wrong though and as with any mod you should go to the linked thread above and research it for yourself.

Here are some apks that change the icons on your home screen and your app drawer.
Thanks to Pfaffinator for the icons.
1 go to system/ app and copy your entire app file then place it on an sd card for backup if you want to revert back to your original icons.
2 copy these new apks to system/ app. Your phone will ask if you want to replace your old apk with the new one...tap yes then profit.
3 I do not know how to make a zip file yet as I am still learning.
4 I will add more as I theme more icons.

If you flash super Jelly, use the super Jelly updater to download a blank zip. You then use an archive manager like 7zip or winrar to place the apk's in the system/app folder. I think it has to be signed for JB, not sure how to do that tho.
Thanks for sharing tho. If these are someone else's work can you give them credit? If this is your work, nice job!
Edit: saw you said you were theming the icons. Sorry if I offended by suggesting this was another person's work

Pull the apks modified. Either adb pull system > w/e.apk. or do it via phone via a root powered file explore. Place the apks on your sdcard. Mount the device place on your computer. That download a theme or a mod zip. And archive into that make your changes etc flash to test then release as a theme. Message me about if you already haven't ill get to you as soon as I can.

The apps would need to be modified. The apps call for resources in the stock framework n systemui. You'll have to transfer those resources to the apps them self n change any internal link to the new location of the resources. It's been done but it's allot of work.

I've seen some hacks for a few of the other samsung phones that let you add other apps to the multi window view instead of just the built in apps. Just wondering if any one has found a way to do that on our mega 6.3 yet?
you need to be on deodexed rom, it will be easy to mod.
Ok, thank you. I'll wait for a deodexed stock rom to show up.
Still waiting for the ClockWorkMod recovery to work, then we'll be in business..
I kind of knew this coming into this phone as the dev community probably wouldn't be as large as the flag ship phones, but the phone has been really good so far with the exception of the headphone volume being very low.

I am rooted, just the play store app didn't work and said I needed root. Very weird...
I interpreted the post wrong. I thought I could choose either method separately but I believe the post is saying that you have to install both the xposed installer and the multi window manager. Neither one of them by itself worked for me but when I installed both apps it worked. I hope this helps those hsving problems.

Correct xposed allows you to install other things besides multi window mod. Also samsung has app called samsung multi pro or something similar to that. It will allow you to do the same but you have to pay for the app. I personally have no experience with it.
Good luck

A little off-topic but, dude, texting/posting while driving is pretty dumb. Not saying that to be mean, but you need to prioritize your's and other's safety ahead of responding to forums.
I got mine that working fine , you need only root your phone, install multi window manager from play store, it can let you add any apps you like
Yup, you are right. I tried that app when I first got the phone (after installing the root kernel) and it would keep giving me errors saying i wasn't rooted. I just tried the app again and it works perfectly. Thank you!
The new Google keyboard has been already extracted from the system dump of the dev preview for Nexus and it seems to work. It's a flashable zip, if that doesn't work try moving files manually.

Enjoy.

Didn't work flashing it. Installing the apk like any other apk worked. I also manually copied the lib file but I don't know if that matters.

It looks exactly like the standard google keyboard.
Please could anyone port the Google L bootanimation for our device? I used the bootanimation.zip but doesn't work because Samsung uses this .qmg files...
There's an apk now! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53716545&postcount=92 works perfectly on my G900M
Less work for me to do?

After you flash it you have to this to be able to see the change
-Go to Keyboard Settings
-Go to Advanced (Expert) Settings
-On Color scheme CHOOSE ''Material''
-Have fun
Its the best keyboard I have ever used. Best looking, best feeling and very accurate. Very impressed.

Mind if I asked did you flash or push the apk manually? If pushed manually, is it in sys/app?
