I can't connect pptp vpn on Sony tablet S after upgrade firmware from r1a to r5a. How can I download from r5a to r1a? Is it possible?
Need root and root not out yet for sony tablet s release 5a
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda app-developers app
I have already "root" r5a and installed superuser.
How can I downgrade from r5a to r1a, in order to reuse the pptp vpn?
Or somebody help me to fix pptp vpn on r5a firmware?
Thanks!

Just use Open VPN . Much easier.
Does Open VPN support PPTP?

Just OpenVPN as far as i'm aware. It's faster and more secure than PPTP.

Do you have the Android Composite ADB Interface and Sony Tablet S drivers installed in your computer's Microsoft Windows OS and does your computer recognize your tablet is connected to it?
Well thanks for all your help I got everithing working I got to flash the updated firmware... now I came across another issue when I try to use the mods and hacks menue on AIO. I get the red screen saying that my divice needs root. Any idea what could have wrong?

Most likely what is wrong is your tablet is not rooted.

Okay, so you have tested your tablet and you believe it has root access. Now tell me what exactly are you attempting to do when the AiO tool tells you your tablet needs root access?
Im trying to enable the write permissions to sd, and now when ever i do a selection of any option on the AIO options non of them work and before i did the update to (release1 a) i had access to everything in the menu
super SAD i just used a root checker and i have lost my root access ... please some please tell me there is something i can do to fix this and have access once again.. can i downgrade or work away around this ?
- i had 4.0.3 and flashed to 4.0.3 r1a from the link given in the firmware link given in the AIO thread .....

Unfortunately, you have lost root access and currently there are no methods available for you to regain root access. Your mistake was flashing your tablet using the OTA update file as-is instead of using Condi's AiO tool to pre-root the OTA update file before flashing your tablet.
ah well that really sucks..... and from what i have been reading there is no way of downgrading is there ?

Unfortunately again, that is correct. Like I said, currently there are no methods (including downgrading) available for you to regain root access.
I got japan wifi+3g SonyTabletS with 3.2, and updated to 4.0.3r1a. Recently, some japanese succeed to root "4.0.3r1a", I tried it and I'v got root!
I'm not sure if other language device were able to be rooted, but you might try the method.

Hi, I'm also trying to decypher the translation Google came out with. As far as I understand the author says that he proceeded the same way as with Tablet P. Yupandra2012 can you give us a short walk through how you proceeded?
hi,
i was able to access /data but the VpnFaker.apk digest seems invalid to my Tablet S (4.0.3r1a US firmware)
the logcat shows the following message
W/PackageParser( 163): java.lang.SecurityException: META-INF/MANIFEST.MF has invalid digest for AndroidManifest.xml in /data/app/VpnFaker.apk

The auther said included "VpnFaker.apk" had adjusted certification of original "VpnDialogs.apk" in /system/app/ in Japan ver.
So I guess you must match VpnFaker.apk's certification to your oliginal "VpnDialogs.apk", but it's required rooted device.
hi Yupandra2012,
I can get the /system/app/VpnDialogs.apk without rooted, can you ask the author to re-pack the VpnFaker.apk for us? Thanks!

Yes, I updated my ROM to 4.03 R5A. I don't know it will get problem for rooting. However, I did.
Now what I can do to root my Tablet S. The AiO instruction said:
****************** WARNING ******************
newest ota fw R5A IS NOT ROOTABLE!
DO NOT UPDATE DIRECTLY TO OTA!
the only way to get root with R5A
is to use prerooted custom zip with AiO

Does it mean if I can get a prerooted custom zip then I can use AiO to root my tablet S? If yes, how to do it? My tablet S is China version. I try to root my device is because I want to change region for using Google service.

YES but the only way is to have root and to get root you must NOT have R5a.
Normally one would root R1a and then custom update to R5a.

Is anyone working on a way to root release 6b?
I would do it myself but I wouldnt have a clue where to begin xD
I miss root because it used to allow me to connect my ps3 pad to the tablet using the sixaxis app which was a huge improvement to the tablet (gaming-wise)

Your signature says "Xperia Tablet S (UK) Rooted (Release 6)", so you should be able to install prerooted 4.0.3r6b by using Condi's S.onyTablet.S [FLASHER] tool.

Once again: You don't need root for vpn. You do on anything before Android 4.0, but ICS introduced "VPNService", which allows VPN on unrooted phones. See the documentation on developer.android.com,
I've been using OpenVPN for Android on my un-rooted, stock Desire X, and it works just fine.

Hi. I have a Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0.
I tried Kingroot 4.8.2 to root my device (connected to the internet from the start) but it didn't work for me.
Does Kingroot work with specific kernel version or something? @DjSix4 Can you post a tutorial of what you've done?
Please help. Thanks.
I successfully rooted mine using kingroot from a PC. I had already this only worked after I managed to unlock my bootloader though. You can request a code from emui.com. You need to create a huawei ID and have your account for two weeks before you can get the code though.
Thanks! I will try to do this and I'll let you know if it works.

Yeah, I know. I basically just kept clicking the green (or blue) buttons or whatever and it worked. That said, I lost root for some reason so I need to do it again.
install kingroot 4.9.6 and try root (repeat 2-5 time)if doesnt work just keep it dont uninstall kingroot..then install kingoroot and click root
repeat 2-5 times until there is two result:
1.kingoroot when reached 90% said kingroot request root permission.. pick granted ..even says kingoroot failed but you have kingroot working as root management..
2.kingoroot success and superuser installed...but kingroot fail to gain root ...
i think the key is update problem the baseband with xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx_pi can be done with kingroot only..but if updated tried methode above....
I used KingoRoot and it worked!Just install the apk one and then start rooting(just wait though)!Hope this helped you!...
