Need some advice - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I have fell into a predicament with my GS3 and thought I would come here and ask you guys for some advice. A couple days ago I dropped my GS3 resulting in a small spider web crack around the ear speaker on the front. What is odd about this situation is that the digitizer has seemed to cease to recognize touch input. The back and menu touch buttons work great but the screen itself is oblivious to my touch input.
So should I:
1. Turn it into the Samsung and have them replace the screen and digitizer for a quoted $178 total cost.
OR
Sell my phone on eBay (approx. $175 value) and purchase a:
2. Note 2
3. Nexus 4
4. Lumia 920
on craigslist (approx. $3-400 in my area).
What are your opinions? I loved my GS3 but have heard great things about the other three phones. Both options are not that far apart in total costs for me to care about cost too much.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

2 seems like a great device.

[Q] Replacing HD2 screen similar to replacing Iphone screen?

My local computer shop owner, who also repairs phones reckons he can do my htc hd2 screen...dropped it ages ago and got loads of cracks covering 3/4 of the screen....works perfect tho.
Not insured etc, so have to pay...but no way am I gonna pay HTC prices.
He said he has done loads of Iphone screens and has a special heating tool there to take the screen off etc.
couple of questions:
1: if he can succesfully replace iphone screens...will it be almost identical with the htc...or is it completely different and he doesn't know what he's letting himself in for, as he never done a htc hd2 screen b4?
2:got a new screen and digitizer off Ebay for £49.00 delivered and he gonna charge me £25.00 to fit it....if he does it and ****s it up...will he then be liable to fix it or get it fixed?
He's a good guy, knows his stuff...but just realllllyyyyy worried about my lil hd2...it's my pride and joy.

[Q] Question about replacing the screen..

I love my dear Rezound, as it has helped me so many times, and maybe might've even saved my life at one point. I am the only 1 out of 5 lines who is not tied down to a contract and does not have a Samsung Galaxy S III or Note 2, because I love this phone that much. But the problem is, after 6-7 months after I got it, it fell down on the concrete sidewalk and cracked the screen. It was only two really small hairline cracks, so I didn't think anything of it, only the occasional annoyance that I dropped it whenever I watched a YT video. I was fooling around with a bunch of my friends, and it fell out of my pocket, now the screen's broken to the point where if I touch it, I can sort of like...feel the screen being pushed down. The touch screen still works, and I'm planning to get it replaced at a local mall sometime this month. So I was wondering...if the store rips me off and uses just a cheap screen, will the display be bad? Will I not get that same, cool, color as I did when it wasn't broken?
TL;DR if a store that fixes phones uses a low quality screen, will the colors not be the same as it was before?

it depends on the service at the store. If they charged less than $50 to replace it. 9 times out of 10 it was just the glass.
if it was more. then they did replace the lcd. A lot of the times they will buy OEM but you do have the off chance of getting a China knock off.
tl:dr it is quite possibly they did replace with a bad lcd. Most places offer a warranty on it so i would go talk to them.
If just the digitizer is cracked and not the LCD, then they should just replace the digitizer and all the colors and richness will remain. The only Rusk is dead spots on the touch screen which if its a reputable store should have some kind of warranty I would think.

Shame to admit but terrible...
I am looking into repairs right now for the phone my girl used for the last two years. I bought her HTC HD7 for time being.
Well...here it goes:
1. Touch Screen goes funny, you need to lock-unlock the screen 1-2 times for it to react normally again.
2. The main case lock is a bit loose. The spring mechanism is still strong though making the screen semi detached from the main case. (I am really sorry for my English, I had a bottle of wine in me too, which I am sure doesn't help, but I hope you will get me) Basically the phone case is not locking fully.
3. USB port is dead. No, really dead! Charges under certain angle. Computer won't even recognize the phone.
4. Microphone is dying. People complain that I sound like I am using a speaker phone.
5. Power chip died a few month ago. Had to repair. They re-soldered it, which was pretty impressive considering the fact how small it is. (they gave me the old one in a plastic bag as a souvenir.
I mean, yes, my girl friend is not so good with Tech stuff... I beg you to check the phone yourself before buying it. It depends a lot on the user... They are not the highest quality build, although they certainly look very solid.
Regards,
A
PS - power chip = power management chip. Won't charge/turn on

Got two of them and both work flawless and I've yet made the jump to WP8 though I recently bought a Lumia 520 for a friend's daughter and will likely make the jump soon. Still waiting on where some are going with the Samsung Ativ S and interop unlock.
Sold mine to a friend which has a habit of breaking his phones, and now, a year and a half down the road, the phone is still going strong.
The metal bezel around the screen has changed color due to hard wear, and the back cover is both dented and scratched, but the phone it self is working as normal.
I would give this a 5 out of 6 for durability.

Sent in my s4 to be looked at by Samsung repair... now I need some advice please!

So, I sent in my s4 for repair to the repair center in Texas and it seems to have been reviewed. I was told before to send it to them from the Verizon store because I noticed a bubble probably the size of a sesame seed (or smaller) at the top left of the screen. The representative at verizon said that it was most likely a defect in the pixels and to send it in to be looked at. So I did that and sent it in about a week ago and they have put on the repair status Screen / Display / LCD / Touch Panel / LED / LCD Discoloration HPZ31 and they have attached a price of $200 to repair it! I most definitely won't pay this price, if this issue won't cause any long term damage in the future, because it is such a small dot that you can barely see and would not be worth the cost.
I was told that this issue should be covered by the warranty, however because it shouldn't have been caused by physical damage. I have not damaged my phone at all (only accidentally dropped the phone once when it fell out of my pocket on my driveway and the screen wasn't damaged at all or the phone itself.) My phone has always been protected by a case and screen protector btw. So, would there be any way to get this issue repaired without being charged? I haven't called Samsung yet, but plan on calling them tomorrow. Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated and thank you for your time and patience!
If it's that small an issue I don't think I would worry about it imho. Of course now that you know it's there it probably bugs you a bit, lol. Is it worth 200 bucks to stop it from bugging you. Does it interfere with the color display at all, like when the phone is being used is it more visible or is that the only time it is visible. ??

[Q] screen repair/troubleshooting

Hey guys I bought a used note 2 VZW
long story short the screen was busted and I repaired it, the screen is unresponsive to touch (it will respond
but it's very iffy usually having to tap on the screen pretty hard to get it to recognize the finger.) it was spazzing out too
with nothing else touching the screen i turned on show pointer location and it was moving extremely rapidly up and down
the left side of the screen.
but when the S-Pen is removed and used it works fine.
the replacement part i used was for the VZW model number i605/L900 is it possible the replacement part had a bad digitizer?
all pins/connecters were seated with care. it worked fine for about 3 weeks, then Bam. no dice, any way if anyone is interested
in it pm me, i've got a note 3 on order from BestBuy.
I'm giving up on buying used and repairing them, i'd rather buy new at discounted prices. than pay near full price (including replacement
parts repair it and it still be screwed.)
