lag issues? i'm not familiar with blade buddy or that touch screen app for galaxy.
i haven't done anything *too* intensive on the phone but i have rarely experience any type of lag on this device. the lack of lagging has been very impressive to me.
if you are on the stock ROM and kernel and still experiecing lag, based on my personal experience, you might want to look into taking it back for an exchange as it could be a hardware issue.
if you don't experience the lag on a stock ROM and kernel, it might be whatever custom ROM or kernel you're using has an issue or bug. if you're on a custom ROM/kernel, also good to check in those specific threads to see if anybody else has reported a similar issue so the dev knows to look into it and resolve.
hope that helps!
Yea when I first got the phone the xda east major laggy and that's before I rooted so I guess I need to take it back then cuz this sucks...since I rooted its been flawless but couple days later the lag would come back and now my screen is becoming unresponsive at time for like 2-3 secs!!!

yea. as a last resort test, i'd flash everything back to stock and run it for a day. see if its still laggy. if it is still laggy, find good examples of when it lags so when you take it back, you can show the person how laggy it is through the examples.
hopefully you can swap out for a device w/no issues!

lol yea, given the unknown area rooting a device currently sits from a legal standpoint, i'd avoid anything related to rooting the device as a prime example.
ideally, if you're experiencing lag on the device, it will occur frequently in common tasks like making/ending a phone call or moving between text messages or moving between menus in the settings screen, etc. it makes the best case for having an issue when you're able to demonstrate it lags during normal routine operations.
hope that helps!

hah yea. working on mainly two small apps on the market, root check and flashimagegui. pondering publishing the completely stock ROM with root, busybox and some developer tools i use on my personal device (as I did publish this on the evo and it was decently popular - might be where you saw my name). also, trying to help out (give back) in the q&a boards when i can!
if you find some good common tasks which cause the device to lag, post them back here as people with the same or similar issues might find this thread through searching and it'll give them some rough benchmark to compare against.
i've yet to see this device lag through any common tasks i run. previous android phones ive had would experience lag so this device has definitely impressed me!

Open SetCPU, then
Menu> Device Selection> Auto Detect
It will automatically detect your processor if it's supported (which it is) and show all available frequencies the kernel will allow.
So it just automatically enables it? In system runner it is an option that you can turn on and off. Does setcou have a function the allows you to enable and disable the second processor?

Not that I'm aware of. At least I haven't seen it anywhere in the settings. It does what I need it to so I haven't even considered using anything else. Disabling a core seems counter-productive to me, but to each their own I guess.

Couple of question:
1). The version in XDA is 2.24, but the Google Play version is 3.0. Since the XDA version is so outdated, does that means it still have LOTS of bugs that have not been ironed out?
I don't mind donating, but I want to try SetCPU first and hoping I can try the latest version.
2). Judging by the reviews in Google Play, this app doesn't work very well for the AT&T Note. Does it work for you?

Personally I don't trust Google Play reviews simply because most of the ratings and reviews are generated by bots and are not real or true. I have used v2.2.4 on my Note with no issues on GB or ICS(although there is no OC support in ICS since there isn't kernel source yet, it helps control lag and battery life), never really used any other app, been using SetCPU since I had my G1 lol. I see the dev hasn't even been on Xda since January, so maybe if you email him via his Google Play dev email and ask him to update the Xda thread to the latest version you might get somewhere. But if you don't mind donating then feel free.

Yeah setcpu is great. Use it on my CM9 HP touchpad and on my ICS Atrix 4G. No reason to control individual cores. Let android handle it.
It is, however, useful for undervolting/under/over clocking if supported by your kernel.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
For the AT&T Note, what settings do you use that is MOST STABLE?
1). Governance
2). Scheduler
3). Minimum CPU (there is a warning in the app that some Samsung phone may CRASH if using lower than 384Mhz)
I am not looking to Overclock, just to save battery.
I am rooted, stock ROM and kernel.
EDIT: hmm... I setup the following and my battery life seems to WORSEN:
1). Minimum CPU: 192 instead of 384
2). ONE profile --> screen off: CPU is between 192 to 540
Everything else is default. Now my battery goes down by 1% / 10 minutes while screen is ON and 1% / 20-25 minutes while screen is OFF. Prior to installing SetCPU, it's 1% / 15-20 minutes when screen is ON and when screen is OFF, I tested (ovenight) --> 5% in 8 hours.
I have NOT installed anything after installing SetCPU. The above time was tested while using the Note normally. I.e. browsing the web, NOT watching movies, etc.

I'm not using ICS and refuse to upgrade til the official release and kernal source is available. I use gingerbread and there are kernals available but none support the app 2nd core. I posted a thread yesterday askin if someone could add support to a Gingerbread kernel so people like myself that still use gingerbread could try this app. The app is very nice and very useful. You can use single core mode which will save lots of battery or dual core mode which will speed up your device. The international Note has a couple of kernels that support this app and there are a lot of great review about how great it actually is. If you would've actually took time to read the OPs post you would have seen that in his signature he is using DAGr8s kernel which means he is also using Gingerbread which means I answered his question the right way. Maybe he has upgraded to ICS but I was just answering with the info I was given.
I am not quite sure what this is about. I just switched over from the Motorola Photon, from what I understand that the second core is turn ON automatically when needed. This is to help save power , heat and battery life.
To turn ON the second core is easy. If you are rooted and have terminal emulator installed.
Issue the following command in terminal as superuser:
To Turn ON
echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online
To turn OFF the second Core:
echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online
That's it. I checked myself.
When I was using the Motorola Photon. Using both cores all day does not accomplished anything but ruin battery life and generated heat.
I read the info on 2nd core App. It basically does the same thing as the 2 commands above. All you have to do is create 2 scripts. One to turn ON and the other to turn OFF and use script manager in the play store create the short cut or widget and execute that on the fly.

Any word on the effect on battery life?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
I have it bundled in CounterShrike 3.0, and available as a download for PAC-Man. In both cases, it's the background service only and not the app, but the effect is the same. I'm quite skeptical of performance tweaks, but so far, this one seems legit. It does not help general performance. It does help anything that uses entropy...app lauching, task switching (including return to home), many list based loads (Facebook newsfeed as one example), and so on.
The add on version I have is generic enough to run on any ROM and device as long as the kernel supports init.d. http://androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390233485161005378
Edit: I've seen zero battery impact. If anything, it may be a bit better, but that's totally subjective.
I'll give this a shot
I've been running the flashable script version for a few days. It does appear to make a difference though I haven't done any hard testing.

Seems to make a slight difference only noticeable sometimes on inef dues. Antutu scores are the same. I think what I notice most is it being a little snappier between app switching. Hopefully it doesn't affect my battery life
I bought the app from the Play Store, but it deactivates itself every time the screen is turned off. Also, it's never prompted me for root access, so I'm quite skeptical that it's doing anything on my phone.

Is it Seeder by LCIS for 1.49? I may try and see. But I already flashed that zip shrike posted so I'd have to restore my nandroid and then try it
So, what about the article on the portal about these claims of improvement being false? Does anyone have any real proof either way about this or is it just a placebo? When really amazing devs not only say it works but also include it in their ROMs, it makes you think there's a little more to it. Just curious.
Quite a few reputable devs out there saying this does nothing at all that's it's all placebo.
Idk if it's this or something else I flashed but my phone will not go over like 550mb of ram. So every app I open has to reload kind of

K if I remember when I restore my nandroid i'll try it and see. I can see a difference but on faster/newer phones or AOSP Roms you more than likely won't see any. But after flashing that it's definitely different. Not sure if it's for the better or not since I can only tell with switching apps.
Edit: I feel like any tweaked rom is going to do the same. I just bought that app and it made literally no difference. Maybe the difference I was seeing was from the animations I flashed. Lol interesting. I also notice my ram is being used better without the tweaks.. What do the tweaks actually do?
I didn't notice much of a difference so I uninstalled it. And whatever you do, don't pay for it in the Play Store. Go to the thread in the OP and get it for free.

Just finished watching the livestream of the Facebook Home announcement. It was mentioned that FB Home would be coming to several devices on April 12th, including HTC One, One X, One X+, GS3, GS4, and Note 2. It seems to be basically a launcher replacement/UI. They also said it would be coming to Tablets in several months. So I was curious what DNA users think. Do you care? Should we feel left out? Do you want FB Home? Do you think we will get it? When?
People who don't like FB at all, don't bother posting. You don't need it and it won't be pushed on anybody. Hopefully this thread will be for FB/DNA users who are interested in discussing FB Home.
I think it looks interesting but I actually like Sense a lot so I'm concerned about how well it will integrate and whether we will lose out on a lot of features we have come to rely upon, like widgets, etc.

Even for people who are not on FB, it is generally a good thing for the Android ecosystem because, at least for now, it could be driving users towards Android who would otherwise be buying iPhones.
I use FB several times/day, but I don't think I would want this simply because it will take a lot of why I like the android platform away from me, namely, freedom. The UI of FB home doesn't look half bad, but unless you want to be forced to have your phone revolve around FB then you might instead like any one of the hundreds of other launchers currently available from the play store.
Not to mention that it took FB several months to work out some of the more basic bugs from its first android app.
This honestly smells of desperation to overcome FB's member boredom. Google could easily also make a launcher for Google+, or MySpace or Twitter could, and I'd feel the same way. It's pretty bold of FB...
Oh, and His Zuckness also wants to run ADS on the launcher as well.

Modaco's should work if you are rooted and remove the apk from /system/app.
I'm stock OTA so it tells me the signature exists as facebook came with my phone
The hacked version does work on the DNA its a pretty neat launcher if you are really that into wanting a face book phone. Sucks up data fast for those on limited data plans so make sure to check the settings. Not the best launcher, for ease of use, but it is sure different. The future of launchers could be a good start.

and others are right too, in the sense that any other phone is going to be smaller. how can i go back? even my Note seems like a Pez dispenser compared to this thing.
i like it, i just want to do stuff with it.............you know
Totally understand ...in time

I'm in the same boat with grandfathered unlimited data plan...honestly the mega is sick...and if you root your i527 and put setcpu on it you'll see a massive improvement. I think shayne is testing out the settings I run mine on with stock kernel. Just keep it and see how it goes. I'm a huge tinkerer and dev, working in a custom kernel for the mega and still run rooted stock that I themed with xposed and wanam, combined with max clock it's as near as a custom rom as you'd want, with all the stability and speed of a rom. If you just download xposed and wanam the amount of customizations are literally endless.
Mega
Also tinted status bar module is dope ...any color you want upon opening any app you want ...but I won't post 100 pics lol

Are you running the ATT version also?
I have often wondered in my 100's of flashes I have done, is it the custom rom that is necessary, or can I get all tge tweaks I really need just by using the Xposed Module.
I do like the phone alot, but I have held off on the root until I decided to keep and I feel I have read enough about it. As Shayne knows, I can really EFF things up if I want too.
In the past with Xposed, I have had reasonable success in modding, of course it could have been me or conflicting options on phone. Does it seem to be fully functional with rooted Mega?

I've thought about selling my i9205 to get something newer but its grown on me. But 400 dollars sounds nice too ha. Xposed will hold you off for a bit capt

Not with the mega...i have a note 3 n900a att...at least for me, I still try rom, and help some of my friends develop them but I pretty much stopped doing full devs of roms since all the tweaks you'd want can be done to stock with xposed and now wanam, plus stock rom stability. I really only build kernels and flash kernels and theme or tweak my own stock builds. Always heavily themed, sometimes I do some xml or build prop alterations...but since 4.2 I've run pretty much stock with tweaks as I've found it generally faster, smoother and more stable...Especially with certain kernels. And I have to say for a stock kernel the mega has a great one, and is really streamlined and efficient in the source code.
stick with your megas fellas trust me I have several devices l around and I always go back to my mega
(Even changed my xda handle lol)

And just for the sake of clarity...everything I do, or other devs do either can be done, or is actually done thru xposed and the subsequent modules...so yes you can do everything I woukd do building you a rom in xposed, minus say deodexing or other tweak, which these days with the new krait chips is really unnecessary tbh. The chips are so powerful and efficient in the mega and the quad version of it in the note 3 don't need or show really any noticeable gains by many of the old tricks anymore. So my 2 cents on it...keep the mega, it's the best all round device I own, and by far my favorite. Run xposed, and wanam and I can almost guarantee you won't be missing a single thing.

I haven't used Xposed, but I'm pretty darn happy with the Mega stock rom. I'm running 4.4 on my captivate and my asus tf300t. The 4.4 is nice and smooth and small! I'm sure we will see a 4.4 update eventually for the mega. Google's ART feature is still very experimental, once they get that matured and implemented in their 4.4 builds, I'm sure even light weight devices will see the performance benefits.
Having root and being able to remove bloat was a big bonus for me. If I like themed roms, I would most certainly play with Xposed. The battery life on this Mega is something wonderful! Worth keeping the phone just for that reason.
Actually, after rooting and removing ATT and Samsung bloat, I am pretty happy with stock. I alternate between Nova and everything.me launchers.
Believe me, I have been a flashing addict. I have tried every rom available for my 3yo Nook Color, Captivate, Infuse, Note 1 and Nexus 7. And I have tested roms for 4 different Devs.
I find it's refreshing for everything on my phone to work without having to use a third party app (although it is boring)!!! I'm keeping my Mega, but I will probably never use ATT again, unless all the other carriers start locking their phones also.

Im in the same page here.. if rooting works for me is more than enough. I have removed all the "junk" apps and im happy with the stability of the mega and software. Yes is nice to use different roms and have options but at the end of the road as long as there are ways to "personalization" of the mega software im happy. I might miss the kernel abilities.. specially overclocking...
I appreciate the feedback folks and I am in. Stability is the key and I have experience with multiple device. Trusted advice is a valuable thing to and I beleive that is what I am getting here.
I now only need to find the trusted files and instructions on rooting this thing. I think I found them last night, around p40 in the "bounty for root" thread. However, I have always been hesitant about going into build prop and making changes. So I guess I need to read more.
Thanks again folks, ill be around.

With root, exposed, wanam, and nova launcher, I am happier with this phone then I ever was with my note1 or 2. I will still push for a way to flash but funny thing is, I probably would stick with the setup I have now. I guess it's a matter of knowing I could flash if I wanted but No, I don't think I need it or would even use it. What's wrong with me, wanting something, I don't think I will ever use?

Kingoapp.com is the easiest method I have used....ever....bar none!!!!
I may have told you this before, but I went to manage apps and looked at every app....if it gives you the option to "turn off", then you should be able to delete without any problems. I've never had the balls to delete any thing else....
az probably has a complete list of what can be deleted.

This. Once we got root and I used Xposed I'm happy as hell. I just want to be able to flash **** that I'm never gonna use.
Go to kingo and download the app on your pc...its a one click root system for a myriad of devices including the mega i527. I used it on my note 3 n900a with locked bootloader without issue. Enjoy
Mega
We should make a comprehensive list of **** that we have turned off
And another of the mods that we have done
For me I always wanted the clock in the middle with wanam I have it, also changed the battery and some other icons as well so for now even though I can't flash I am sticking with the Mega
