Hi,
My EVO 4G LTE is S-OFF. I've been running FreshROM 5.3.1 since it was released without issue. Last Thursday I started getting a lot of backround app crashes. Not a big deal, I wiped, reloaded the ROM, then restored everything via Titanium Backup pro. All was well for a couple of days.
Yesterday, my battery died within about 3 hours. Normally, I go over 16 hours. After some investigation and I found a process 'flush-179:0' eating CPU (and battery). I've wiped, flashed again, even flashed different ROMs. It's still there; every time.
I found one post on XDA where someone said it was caused by a performance tweak app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016993). Their fix was to flash stock, radios, etc. then root again. I haven't used any apps to tweak anything. So, if it's a similar cause...data/config corruption?
Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone know of a fix?
Thanks!
I'm not familiar with this specific issue but you mentioned that you restored everything using titanium backup. If you are experiencing problems I would strongly recommend NOT restoring all data as you may be restoring that very same issue. If you don't want to have to start all over then at least only restore just apps and data. Never system data.

Of course, the problem is that it's there when I wipe and flash a new ROM (Fresh, Rejuvenated, etc.). Even before I load my data via TB.

I think I will; this seems to fit with the latest info I just figured out.
I flashed Fresh again, and suddenly started getting the warning about the SD card being damaged and to format it (as we know, that's not the external SD card). No matter how many times I format it, the error comes back. From some other searching, the 'flush-179:0' process seems to have something to do with storage, maybe because it can't read that partition it's causing issues.
I updated the firmware and radio, still no luck.
So I tried loading another ROM (I went with Mean Bean). That fixed the issue with the SD Card partition being unreadable/unformatable. Maybe that was caused by multiple flashes
But, the flush-179:0 process is still eating CPU and battery.

As far as I can tell, it's part of Fresh 5.3.1 and other ROMs I had on my SDCard that are based on the old OTA. The latest Mean Bean doesn't have the same issue after wipe & flash.
I emailed flipz (the Fresh dev), though who knows if/when he'll get back to me. For now, I'm thinking about running MeanBean for a while.
You really can't go wrong with mikeyxda and his mean series of ROM's. That man consistently puts out quality work. No doubt about it.

You nailed it. I was having issues with the flush-179 system process taking up 100% of my CM10's (JB) CPU time. It got so bad that I couldn't even reboot or shutdown without pulling the battery, which of course caused other problems. Initially I thought the "System" process was just out in the weeds, but by using OS Monitor and unchecking "Hide System Process", I was able to find the flush-179 culprit.
My first clue that it might be SD card-related was obtained after opening a terminal window and typing 'mount'. The line for /mnt/sdcard showed (paraphrased):
# mount
...
/dev/block/vold/179:65 /mnt/sdcard vfat rw,dirsync,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,...
...
Realizing that a "flush" process probably had something to do with filesystem caching and seeing the "179" in the mount output, I focused on my SD card. After pulling the card, backing it up, formatting, and restoring it in Windows, I am happy to report that my little Android has been fast, snappy, and problem-free for several days now.

I tried flashing the Rom yesterday and was successful. The issues I had revolve around restoring my apps. I used My Backup Root for stock to Froyo, but this time it seemed as though the apps were on the phone and the card, which cause an error stating that I didn't have enough memory. What should I have done to restore the apps to preserve the memory? I also received force close error for SetCPU, SlideIt (which I love), and a few others.
Also, what is the benefit of partitioning my sd card and does doing so erase it's current contents?
Lastly, are the nightlies a full rom or just part that needs to be flashed? If found some on CMs website, but not here.?
Yes, I'm a NOOB.

Regarding your nightly question, they are full ROMs...the difference between them is the code that was committed within the previous 24 hours. Of course that also means that, in theory, some of the nightlies could be 100% the same...anyway, the nightlies can be a beautiful thing or a disasterous thing...usually if there's an issue with a nightly it is quickly found by those who flash each nightly and it is brought up around 3.2 million times and it is typically fixed by the next nightly.
Partitioning usually does mean a wipe of data on the SD. Careful!
When I upgraded to a 32GB flash from the stock 2GB from my Aria, I backed up the entire contents and restored on the new one. Apparently there is volume information stored somewhere (not sure where) and the phone couldn't recognize the card and asked me to partition it.
Because I had a backup, I decided to do so, but instead of partitioning for the entire size of the chip, it partitioned only 2GB!
So I had to stick it into a reader and repartition it manually and then selectively restore music, etc back on the card.
After that it worked just fine. So short version: yes it does.

You will need to creaate an sd-ext partition to fix the issue of installing (larger) apps with CM7.
The best way would be through ROM Manager.
wifi
Installed the RC2 and can't connect to a hidden SSID wifi network.
That is a known issue with the wifi driver on cm7 thus far. Not sure if it will be corrected though. Anyone else know if it is in the works?
"Do you mind if I turn up the AC?"
I believe if you flash to nightly 14 all will be good, not 100% sure though.

Great input from everyone. Thanks! Following up on the sd-card partitioning... I have a new 8g card and want to more to CM7. If I partition it, what happens when I restore the backed up app using My Backup Root? And, what is the best partition configuration, why, and what info get store in each section (ext)?
Thanks...

The easiest way to partition is using your ROM manager.
Just select the max size for SD-EXT (I think it would got to 512MB), and none for swap.
I'm not sure if this would have any effect on your backup - I myself started out from scratch and got my apps from the market even though I had made an Astro backup...
You will store all your stuff - music, pictures etc in the normal partition. The SD-EXT will be automatically handled by the phone.
Tried flashing Nightly 22 on my Aria from 17. I spent a lot of time customizing 17. Is there a way to keep all of the old home screens? Also, GPS lock isn't working for me. Using MyBackup Root for Apps, but it seems to duplicate the apps?

You should be able to flash each new nightly without losing any of your settings/customizations/homescreens and apps.
While upgrading from ROM manager, just check the backup option, don't check wipe data and cache.
I can confirm this works transitioning from 14 to 22 because I just did it yesterday night
As for the GPS problem, thats a known issue - the workaround is to make a nandroid backup of your current cm7, then do a complete phone reset, then do a nandroid restore of cm6 or 6.1 (hope you have one), do another factory reset, and restore your cm7 from the backup you took in the 1st step

first of all, i would never suggest using rom manager for things such as that. historically it has only caused problems and has been more of an inconvenience than anything. second of all, when you boot into CWM and do it the right way, don't wipe data, it's suggested but not necessary that you wipe cache and dalvik, then flash the rom and you'll be good.
Thanks to both of you. Big help and not deleting the data did the trick. Looks like I'm good to go and GPS is working well again. Is there a way to ensure I don't have duplicate apps taking up space on the card and phone? I'm getting errors on moving some apps to the sd card.

Not all apps can be moved to the FAT32 partition on the SD card. Widgets also, won't work properly if moved to the SD FAT32.
If you need more memory, look into (read up) partitioning your sd card with a ext3 partition and installing S2E or Dark Tremor a2sd (DT a2sd).

Oh, I had no idea about that, thanks for the info.
I've been using ROM manager without any problems so far, apart from one lately, that when I reboot to recovery, I always get an error screen - exclamation mark in triangle...but I just pull the battery and reboot into recovery manually and it starts whatever command I had given it (backup/new rom) automatically...
Hello Community,!
I have been using CM since the nighties unitl the early 30's before Kernel got hacked I have stopped using CM around that time and switch back to near stock rom (TSM Resurrection) due to force close on every single applications. Now that CM is official, I hope the problem is gone but it is still there. I can use the phone for couple hours and then force close everywhere.
I have tried the following with that I can find on the forums:
1. Fix Permissions.
2. Fix Permissions and then reflashing CM.
3. Wipe data and reflashing.
4. Went back to stock (with atlas and all that) and then back to CM.
5. Rebooting/pulling battery out does not fix it either.
I read that it would be running out of memory causing it, but closing apps did not help.
Could it be rogue app(s) causing it or something entirely different?
Thank You!

just went thru this the other night with another member...try going back to dl09 and reformat your sd card. worked for him
I have not tried in addition to reformatting my sd card whild doing the whole DL09 restoring. I will give that a go.
It would probably also be a good idea to redownload the apps fresh from the the market instead restoring them from titanium backup?

with tibu just make sure to restore app only w/ out data. Should be no different than redownloading the app from market.
Your solution seems to work so far, I did however redownload fresh copies of apps from the market and just restore the data from titanium backup just incase any full restore are corrupted. I do get random phantom keys from time to time.

I'm currently using sgs2 with stock gingerbread.
My problem is, my phone seems to be locked on a specific state dated march 3rd 2013.
whenever i format usb storage or reboot my phone, it always back the way it was
e.g. when i tried to un/install apps or deleting files (succesfully), and then i rebooted it, the apps or files are still there such way unharmed.
i remember its somewhat like deep frezee. but usually, something like this only works on settings right?
its really nonsense when i deleted 8 gigs of file then i do a format/reboot, the 8 gigs files came up again like nothing has happened.
Already tried factory reset and unchecked restore backup settings.
Never faced something like this before, help is much appreciated
Sound like a problem with the rom, best thing you can do is backup everything (data) and do a complete wipe through recovery and flash a clean rom again. Very strange but have never (in all my experiece of IT etc) come across stuck dates and data that wont dissapear.
Edit: maybe this is a damaged or corrupt filing system? Still, the fix for tha would to be a complete format.

before this, a had an issue with the sd card, it suddenly went corrupt and cant be read anywhere. maybe this is one of the factors too?
i do planned reflashing it with jelly bean, but i'm still curios what has caused this so i can prevent and understand the problem..
my phone cant make new memories as well, new files are nowhere to be found after reboot.
thanks for the reply jl10101

Alright, I hope I have this in the right place. I just recently flashed the TerraSilent Kernel for the Galaxy Player 4.0 US version. The Flash went fine, but my device was running extremely slowly. A re-flash didn't solve it either. I figured that wiping the cache partition might solve the problem - I decided to do this before running a backup, since no important data is stored in the cache (...right?), and since I was worried that backing up while I had this problem could make things worse - so I went ahead into CWM and did just that. Then, it reboots, and I nearly get a heart attack. The stock wallpaper is back, it's using the default launcher again (I had LauncherPro installed), and pretty much only system apps work, all the others have an icon with an SD card on it, and when clicked on, it says something like "application not installed". I did some searching, and it seemed like a reboot might help (although I didn't find anyone with a problem like mine anywhere). The reboot didn't do anything, so now I have it shut down, so that nothing can happen. The odd thing is, it doesn't seem to me like the system messed up and did a full wipe instead, either, because a couple of things I have are still there - for example, some of my bookmarks I made on the homescreen while still using the default launcher are still there. I'm really confused because I have wiped the cache partition before, when I was still on an unmodified stock kernel, and everything stayed the same, the way I thought it was supposed to. And now this happens. What do I do now? I exported my absolute most important data (Astrid Tasks and Calendar) before I installed TerraSilent (but I obviously wasn't able to do a full backup because I wasn't rooted, I figured installing TerraSilent would root it), so my absolute most important data is on my computer. I also did a simple file backup of the internal USB storage and external SD card to another computer before flashing TerraSilent. However, there is still a good deal of data still need, and a lot of data that would just be a pain in the rear to recreate, not to mention my (valuable to me) game data. What did I do wrong - or did something in the system mess up? And - what do I do to get back to where I was before?
It happened to me when I was on gingerbread with terrasilent. It's a known issue with this kernel. In fact, you didn't wipe the data, but the recovery contain a bug wich format the data as soon as you do an operation wich mount the data partition(I think it's this but I can't remind) but it doesn't wipe the system or anythin else, so the icon, setting and everything else stay there but without anything attach to them. I don't remind what was causing it, I only stopped using cwm with this kernel unless I wanted to flash something or to wipe everything. Sorry but I can't help you more as I don't remind everything, it's been a while since I've been on gingerbread.

Wasn't that problem solved with a later version of the kernel though?
And, assuming that's what happened (what you describe sounds pretty much like what happened to me), would that mean that the only way to try and get it back would be by trying to recover the formatted data?

It was said to be resolved, but it happened to some peoples even thought. Maybe you can recover some of your data with your computer and some tools that let you get the erased data, but I can't guarantee the integrity of your data and you would need to replace every bit of data that was there before to get it running nicely. The easiest way would be to try to recover some of your important data, put it on your computer then wipe your player and start from scratch (wipe data/factory reset) and reinstall your apps. Then put back the save, or setting or files that you got back in your apps. Hope this help, I'm not a proffessional with data recovering or where to put it back after you got it, maybe someone else could further help you with this.

OK, my reply is late, but thanks for your help. I managed to copy the partition with all the deleted contents over to the computer, and I'll have to study the contents some other time, because I've spent about 24+ hours on this problem in total, and need my device for more important purposes - those for which the data I managed to copy before the custom kernel and everything else. For those of you who have a similar issue, this is how I managed to save (or that is I am 95% sure this will have saved at least some, as I said I haven't studied it yet) what I hope is a good chunk of my data.
Have you tried flashing a different kernel? Terrasilent also gave me some weird in that after a few days my device would boot into recovery by itself then wipe all my data in that only my system apps would remain. So it's a little different than what's happened to you. I ended up using klin's R3 kernel or Steven's kernel that fixed the issue.

I've got huge issue with steve's kernel. You can get into recovery, but once you booted in it will simply bootloop. Then you have to flash back with odin. So if you go with steve's kernel, don't boot into recovery. As for klin's kernel, I've never tried it, and will probably never as we have some really nice jellybean rom that I recommend you.
I never got that issue with steve's kernel.

Actually, with my problem, my system apps did remain, so it's almost the same problem, only my device didn't boot into recovery on its own (seriously, it booted into recovery on its own and wiped the data? ). I only installed the terrasilent kernel to be able to upgrade to JB, so I'm now on JB, running into different problem (the wrong settings are being backed up from google backup, they're restoring from my galaxy mini 2), but thanks anyway. I am really not having any luck at all with this whole update . But ti-pich, I agree with you, that JB rom is awesome

Yes it did, after 1 week. I was like ???. I reflashed it again and it did the same exact thing, and it happened to me while I was at my college too.
I also had that same issue where it was restoring from the wrong device. I just had to reflash the rom, and install stuff manually because it was making my device horribly slow.

Wow that is some scary stuff, now I know why every kernel/ROM/mod has a disclaimer at the beginning ... I'm glad I'm off that now and on a stable JB build now. I found a way to have it restore at least some of the stuff from when it was on gingerbread (mostly apps and appdata, no WiFi passwords or other settings - at least I'm pretty sure, I'm still working on getting all the stuff up and running) - go into a terminal, and type
Code:
bmgr list sets
It will probably have two different sets, one for when it was on GB and one for JB - or that is, if you had the problem, there will probably be a third set for a different device (maybe more). Then, choose the one you want to restore from, and type
Code:
bmgr restore xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
and replace xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with the apropriate ID from the command before. I'm having to type it several times in order to get it to work - I type it once, it restores some apps, then stops, I type it again, and it restores some more - but I'm hoping it gets as much possible onto the JB build. I guess this won't help you much, I've seen you saying on the ICS and JB threads that you've upgraded a while ago, but I guess if someone else comes along with the same problem, I hope it will help

Code:
bmgr restore xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
and replace xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with the apropriate ID from the command before. hmmm. I'm about to try Terrasilent with my YP-G1 (US version) running 2.3.6. This is giving me second thoughts. Does this kernel still cause issues with SGP 4.0s running GB 2.3.6?? Maybe I should try the old Steves Kernel? I just want to use voodoo sound - thats really the only reason I want to root and get these kernels.
I installed INFECTION 2.9.1 over my rooted ICS installation, but decided I liked the look of the ICS sense better, so I decided to restore my nandroid image of ICS. It booted up but got stuck on the screen right after the white HTC one. I flashed back to jellybean and tried a FACTORY RESET. It reboots me into RA-VIGOR with the error message "E:Invalid command argument"
I can boot back into jellybean but now it is telling me there is NO INTERNAL memory. Where did it go?
Have I killed my phone here?

No you just didnt read threads or previous quiestions...upon moving from stock to a 4.2 based rom you got the bug from memory on that...you need to switch to twrp if not on that and mount and partition your emmc and internal sd card....this has been a known bug for the longest time now....dont use Amon Ra (RA-VIGOR) as it gives bugs on rom installs for any rom really and it doesnt play nice....such as possible phone overheats, battery drain, and many random reboots even after not upping your min frequency

Yep, you are right, I did not read previous threads as I did not know there was a problem with Amon Ra when I first installed it. The Infection 2.9.1 thread recomemended using it! Anyhow, I have since got a message pop up on the screen that said something about bad memory and told me to format it. I did, and now I can see my internal storage again. It is now empty of course, but what was on it when it was factory ? Is there anywhere I could get a copy of those files from?

the files you had on it prior to formatting? no....unless you know how to use pricey data recovery software

Yep, the software that was on it before formatting. It was just whatever default files were on the phone from the factory, and I assume some of them files were to restore the phone to factory. Is there anywhere I could find those files and just copy them back to the phone?

Oh, so I don't need any of the files that were on the internal memory then? That would be good. Hey, as you seem to be very knowledgeable about all this (and i'm most definatly not , what I ultimatley would like is jellybean with the sense clock and weather . I also noticed from the infected rom that the camera did not report how many pictures could be taken with the available memory left. Is there is a rom out there can satisfy my needs? The phone is S-on BTW
Thanks for all your help so far

Yes, it is the internal 10gb that I meant. For a while it was not showing, either on the phone or in windows. After the message on the phone came up to format it (which I did) I could then see it in both windows and on the phone. I had not taken any notice of what was on it beforehand. I have only had the phone for a couple of weeks as it was given to me by a friend who was cut off from Verizon for not paying his bill !! I shoved in a TMOBILE sim from a spare phone I had and it works just fine for making calls but only Edge for data (not that it matters as I have a Optimus L9 for data)
Any info you could find would be most appreciated.

Thats cool. Hey, you mentioned there was a process to get back to stock ICS. How do I do that? This new rom I'm on keeps rebooting on me

to go back to stock you actually have to first s-off and unlock the bootloader....also 4.2 reboots furiously if you dont set things up right...try a 4.3 rom like Tachyon or Carbon Rom....on either one of those ive yet to have a randoom reboot on proper settings that i set up

I was looking at the Tachyon rom yesterday as it happens, but I read somewhere that in 4.3 they changed something with the way memory is handled? and that you can no longer select the external SD card in the camera app, only the internal memory. Is that right?

yes but to be honest....stock is the same exact way
Edit...if your looking for a good fresh fast and to have everything work but base build go with tachyon....if your looking for fully customizable everything thats fast and stable go with carbon rom or pac 4.3....also you can download and replace the stock gallery with one that does save to internal sd card which is 10gb...you can always transfer to external sd as well as to a pc
