jje

what is the name of the folder? Have you formatted the internal memory? If a folder remains its probably a folder needed/created by android

format didnt work, that folder was downloaded from web, since then i cannot get rid of it, cannot rename nothing, that folder was created inside Download folder
JJEgan if u can read ....i writed that i formated my phone and it didnt help, (done it trough options not code cuz its not working) is there anyway to wipe that certain part of memory where photos and other stuff are ?

Try deleting that folder from recovery mode. Using TWRP or AROMA file manager.

[Q] Can't update apps on SD card

Dear All
I can't update the apps that moved on SD card, but has no problem after moving back to phone ? Anyone know the solution ? Thanks
I had the same problem. I was able to resolve the problem by mounting my phone to USB. Then delete the file smdl2tmp1.asec in the /sdcard/.android_secure/ directory.
After deleting the file from the sdcard, I was able to install all apps again
you can do two thgs.
1:delete the file smdl2tmp1.asec in the /sdcard/.android_secure/ directory wt he said if not
2:you may try this, go to setting and choose save to phone instead of sd card. this may allow updates.

i can't find the .android_secure folder. does my phone need to be rooted?
finally!
After reading through a million posts and blogs and pulling out my hair, it was the smdl2tmp1.asec causing all my problems!!! Thanks for the post! Of the hundreds I've read, this is the first reference to the right thing.
any other ideas?
I'm having the same problem. That directory on my phone says it's empty. Yet
, I still can't update apps on the SD card. Any other ideas?
Another path
My .android_secure folder was also empty but other sources said there's another folder to look,
./mnt/secure/asec/
this folder requires root access and using root explorer

[Q] AOKP/CM9 doesn't "see" files in file manager.

I haven't taken notice to any others having this problem, but I may have simply missed it. When I use AOKP or CM9, I can't find certain files on either the built-in storage or in the sd card that I put in it today (I don't know if I have to do anything special to it or not -- do I have to format it?). I have some backups of apps and a few other things, but I can't browse the folders on my sd card because, for some reason, they're simply not listed. Regardless of file browser, I can't see certain files and folders.
Has anyone else had this problem and/or does anyone know what might be causing it? The files aren't hidden and I can see them just fine when I restore my rooted/stock 2.3.4 backup.
There are a couple possibilities why you can't see things. One is that your ext SD card may be now called EMMC. Two, and most likely, you have to give FE root priviledges in preferences.
Remember that any folder with a . (Period) in front of the folder name will be considered hidden. Some apps hide the folders they create automatically and as previously stated above if the file explorer yer using doesn't have root it may not be able to see them.

So how to show the hidden folders that have a period in front of them ? remove the period and the app will show itself ?
Am new to all this so please bare with me.
am trying to gain access to my phones root folders,Apps,Apks....and to make my phone read my external SD card.
my previous ROM was ICS 4.0.2. then i Rooted it..i used Method 2 + Method 2 Advanced---thanks to Jiangyi
Reference : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1679778
Then i flashed aokp_i9100g_jb_milestone-1 and then gapps-jb-20121011-signed for jellybean 4.1.x
The AOKP_Milestone works fine but my problem is that am not able to see my file manager on my device.i can see them on the computer only when i hook the device (i9100G) to the Computer and some of the folders do have periods in front of them,i did fix permissions from CWM recovery, but still nothing.
before flashing the Custom ROM i did not do any backup or restore, i had some applications on the device and some on the External SD card.
am aware of my mistake which probably was the sol issue of problem
when i try to go to Google play through the device it simply does not connect to it,"thats a problem that i had even on ICS"i was able to go to Google play from my computer and install an application from there ,but now when i try to install an app like the AppBack or any app for example
it says that the app has installed into my device but am not able to find it anywhere neither in the device or the root folders of the device through my (computer) only. because am not able to see any of my files through the device.
the Google_Library,music,files,diary,videos apps just doesn't exist. i see them all piled up in one widget in a faded color but they are simply not accessible.
and my mini external sd card can be seen by the device from the storage section in settings only but it says "Mount SD card
Insert an SD card for mounting"
when i click on it nothing happens.
i have not formatted my external SD card after flashing aokp rom. am not able to from the phone nor from the computer and i dont know what to press in CWM recovery in Advanced section so many options there don't know which one to do and which one to leave alone.
so what is my problem, what is the solution for this?
thank you

This forum is for the i777. You don't have this phone model. Please ask in your own forum. All u need to gain access to system files is a file manager that allows root access. For hidden files, I just use a file manager that has an option to show them.

TWRP does not see SDcard Zip file

I have placed Meanrom.zip in the root of the SDCard and I can go to ES Explorer and located it witout a problem but when I go into TWRP to install Zip file it does not display. Any suggestions?
Make sure the zip extension isn't in caps. i.e. ZIP

you have to goto mount in twrp and change it to internal storage
Sorry to open up such an old threat, but i have simmular issues as mentiont above.
Ive gone to hell and back, getting my phone ( a MT6582 Lenovo A3600d ) rooted and TWRP on it, working and all. Yea im a prood noob.. !
But now im stuck. Ive put some compattible rom on my empty and formatted sdcard. Ive done all the flashing that is required to finally install the rom, but TWRP wont see the zip file.
Its in the root of my SD in the correct zip format etc. When i go to the TWRP file manager i also cant locate it. Eventho it tells me its reading of the sd card and not the internal memory. It will only display the maps and show some txt files. Dont know if thats normal. These are the only actuall items/lines i can see pop up.
Furthermore in "Mount" it wont let me check the box "Ext-SDcard", all the others i can check. Is this where the problem lies ? Ive removed the card and formatted it and put the rom zip file back on it a few times through my desktopcardreader.
Since ive allready flashed the phone its completly empty, only the TWRP recovery is accesable.
Am i missing something ? Any help would be greatly apprishiated

Try to use CWM, you can make it through MTK Droid Tools (I kinda forget the name)
1.Download it
2.Obtain superuser access.(make sure usb debugging and usb drivers installed.
3.Goto the second tab
4.select backup and kill the process after seeing boot.img being backed up.
5.again to the second tab.
6 .select 'To choose from the boot.img file'
7.Go to the backup folder.
8.select phone model.
9.choose boot.img
10.click yes on every pop up box.
11.done.
CWM works flawlessly on my Lenovo A3600D.
Even if it's not touch version

[Q] Phone doesn't recognise internal memory ?

I tried to install revolt jb rom , did the wipes but it didn't install properly
The screen buttons wouldn't work, so I went into recovery and totried install my back up off my internal memory but it wouldn't find it ? Lucky I had wanam rom on the Sd card I istalled that.,
when I've checked it looks like all my files are there on the internal memory but it won't recognize then, this is the same in recovery. Any ideas how to access my internal memory again?
I've tried searching but am away from my computer so it's not easy.
Very difficult to understand your post .
kemeys ???
You say
Off my internal memory but it wouldn't find it ?>>>>
You say
did the wipes
Logic says you wiped the backup or part of it .
Root with the exact same recovery you used .
jje
All the file are still on my phone , it just won't find them, I managed to locate then with root browser lite , but recovery can't find them.
Typing this on my phone, so you'll have to excuse the typos.

update
I've just plugged my phone into the computer, it looks like all my files are still on the internal memory card, but they've been put into a folder lablled 0, just got to figure out how to access that folder on the phone or better still on the recovery. No problem find it on the phone now, just can't access it from recovery.
If i can get into the folder in recovery I should be able to restore my back up, I tried to copy and paste the back up into the clockworkmod backup folder, it copied, but failed the MD5 test when trying to restore.
Update: copied the cwm back up to the external sd card and it worked, so I'm back where I started from, just got to sort out my files and delete any duplicates.

[Q] unable to delete folder from Android/Data

I have a big problem..
On the internal SD there's the folder Android/Data - there's another folder that I can't delete.
Reason I want to delete it is the fact, that there's something wrong with one of the cache folders.
Properties shows me size of 64.7GB (!!!!!) and there are some files with cryptic data names in it...
I tried everything: Root Explorer (phone is rooted with Wanamlite 4.1.2, v14.1), Formating USB Storage, Access from Recovery...
No way to get rid of this funny folder that is 5 times bigger than USB storage actually is
Any idea what I could do?
Thank you for your help.
Ralph
I think this is a bug.... Do you have more than 70gb on the phone? How can you have a 67gb folder on the phone?
Use Clean Master (free on the Market) to clear space. Don't go deleting files/folders that seem large.

Hi - yes it is a bug - 67GB are impossible - the folder is on the internal SD (12GB space if empty).
Problem is that this folder "influences" phone functionality...from time to time my phone tells me that I don't have space left on the internal SD Card..At the same time Storage-Manager tells me that there are 7GB left..
After a Reboot phone works normal until this buggy folder is accessed by the system..then again "no space"..
That's why I would like to deleted the cache folder. But folder can't be deleted...I tried everything..just "format emmc" from recovery is left.
Any idea how I can access the folder an delete?
Also have the same problem. Tried formatting emmc and its still there. Everything works fine i just cant remove this folder.

Same problem here, anyone with any clues? Even tried formatting the entire data partition in recovery, still no joy.
It has been preventing me from installing a certain app, as the undeletable folder relates to a previous installation of it. I have been able to rename it however, and that's enough to get the app to reinstall.
Still got that annoying folder though!!

that is because you rom is missing factory test file.
My SGS2 has a variety of issues. Typical bootsequence: phone boots without mounting external sdcard. Writing permissions to internal sd works only after ~20% of the reboots. I mount external sd manually through menu option. After this step writing permissions to internal sd never works.
I used the app DiskUsage and noticed that a particular folder had files occupying tens of gigabytes. The folder was: /storage/sdcard0/android/data/com.ideashower.readitlater.pro/files/ril_offline/ril_assets/cdn3.sbnation.com/entry_photo_images , which belongs to the Pocket application.
(While scanning, the app goes to ~460% and warns that the filesystem might be cyclic or something similar.)
I already tried this and it didn't work:
delete folder/its files with ES File Explorer
delete folder with terminal (having superuser access)
delete folder via adb
I always got an error message saying I only have read access to these files. Changing the permissions doesn't work with either adb or superuser terminal. (This particular lack of permissions for these files is not the same as the lack of writing permissions to the whole sdcard.)
I did however just now regain writing permission to internal sdcard by freezing the Pocket app with Titanium backup (equivalent to uninstalling). This was inspired by the post by xtc399 above saying that
After a Reboot phone works normal until this buggy folder is accessed by the system

. I have also read somewhere else that the existence of folder(s) with tons of files creates the problem with writing permissions to internal sdcard, and my Pocket read-list is huge thereby downloading very many files to android/data/.
The big files are still there. Could it be a hardware problem in the memory? And it seems related to the permission issue on internal sdcard.
I had the same problem: I could not open the gallery and other apps due to insufficient space. On my 16 GB USB memory, I also found huge files (412 GB) that belonged to the Pocket app (former Read It Later), with cryptic file names. The path was: sdcard0/android/data/com.ideashower.readitlater.pro/files/ril_offline/ril_assets/...
I tried deleting the files and formatting the USB storage - unfortunately without success, as you all described. Then I found this solution which solved the problem:
https://marcowue.wordpress.com/2013/10/17/howto-korrupten-internen-speicher-sdcard-unter-android-fixen/
Following the instructions (in german language), i successfully used adb and the partitioning tool parted to reset the partion. The reason was a corrupt file system, which forced the USB storage into a read-only mode. To solve this issue, you will need a rooted device.
