[Q] Video recording in CM10 FXP201 - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hello boys and girls,
I'm running CM 10 FXP201 on an Xperia Ray and can't get the video recording to work (actually it was the same under FXP152) with the only patch of CM being PDROID2.0 (and yes, I have tried while setting all apps to "real" in PDroid, still same issue).
The app seems to record (timer ticking etc.) but no video file is created although a blank file is displayed in the gallery and selecting "details" will give /storage/sdcard0/DCIM/Camera/VID_XXX_XXX.mp4, size XX.X mb etc. however the video can't be played ("Can't play this video") and no actual file can be found anywhere ("su; find / -name \*mp4"). Front and rear camera are working well for photos though.
What could be the problem?
Thanks,
B

this may help (if your problem is with 720p)

Thanks Nachospeicys but the problem doesn't seem to be related to the media_settings.xml. The search goes on but thanks anyway..

That's really really weird, I have recorded a lots of lots of footage and I never ever experienced that even using a slowish sd-card as storage.
Is it the same if you are playing the files back on your computer?
Are you using stock player for playback?
If you download MediaInfo and right click a file on your computer does it say 30 fps for all of them which it should?
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediainfo/
it stutters WHILE recording
and also stutters while playing it at the same place it stuttered in the recording area
all upload a vid soon

i always have this issue
i hope it isnt a hardware issue
this issue happen in indoors with low condition but works great outdoor
aufocus problem i guess.........
Never had this problem, but i'm not recording in low light condition.
I'm getting this problem is really annoying, running lightening rom 1.5 and recording videos in perfect light and still stutters.
any ideas?
I'm having the same issue in low light conditions. No problem outdoors or indoors with lower resolutions.
I think djase is correct that it's a autofocus problem, because the stutter occurs during camera focusing / after the focusing.
I have contacted Samsung (Finland) about this and I'm waiting for an answer..
Hope this will be fixed with firmware update/patch..

Someone posted the camera apk from 1.4 as an update zip and it works great on 1.5. You'll have to search for it.
Anyone knows an alternative video recorder that allows HD (720p & 1080p) video recording?
Samsung (Finland) asked me to test the problem with another video recorder software, but I'm not able to find any which support HD recording.. Noob I am I guess
for solved indoor low condition issue i put expostion -2 and works

Ah, so it seems indeed! Hmm.. So the problem is in the contrast based autofocus I guess.
Thanks for the info! I'll forward this also to Samsung for analysis.. someday

Not from Samsung.. I'll try to bombard the Samsung Helpdesk with calls about this problem, but maybe we have better luck, if others with the same issue could also contact Samsung about this problem.

did u try to update camera firmware ?
when i record in 720x480 no more drop fps only in 720p & 1080i
very strange !!!

I'm not able to find the camera firmware update from Samsung Apps, but I ran the KF3 firmware update and the stuttering still happens..
Cam FW Ver: SCEE07

(I've attached the device general information)
same version as you !
it seems only SCEE** have this drop fps !

[FIX] Hardware Video Decoder Lag Fix [2.3 / xRecovery]

If you watch videos encoded in high quality resolutions above 854x480, H.264 or MPEG4 and a pretty high bitrate, you might notice that video playback is laggy and not fluid with custom ROMs. This flashable zip package is supposed to fix that.
Tested
Stable - Any ROM based on stock 2.3.3 (Wolfs TW Gingerbread, Blue Sparks, Ultima GB etc.)
Stable - Most xRecovery-based CM7 ROMs (ZMOD, SpaarcMOD, FreeXperia Sony UI Achotjan etc.)
Stuck on boot - MIUI ROMs
Untested
FXP CM7 (won't work anyways since it uses CWM)
Special thanks to
zdzihu
EDIT: I've uploaded a test video to check whether video decoder lag is present or not.
http://puu.sh/5j8h/SmoothnessTest.mp4 (854x480, H.264, 5 mbit/s)
If it stutters during playback, that's an indication that the video is lagging.
This fix will not eliminate the problem but will reduce the lag by a huge margin.
I noticed this while watching videos with camera panning, they looked very juddery.
Anyone tried this? Just wondering what the original problem was.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
So, this should enable me (us) to play 720p Youtube vids?
never notist a problem and if there whas a problem, Z would have notist and came with the solution.
I think i would not flash this before making a back up.

You already play hd youtube.
Guys, please play the video in the OP on your phone and see whether it lags or not.

Why do you feel like discouraging people who try to offer something to the community?
On the one hand, there are tons of threads in General section
whining about people moving on from the X10 and development stalling,
and then there are post like yours... It's just not right.
Anyway, @OP, I played the test video and noticed no lags.
Could you explain what is it that you changed in the .so libraries please?
And why some people have the issue and others don't?
Thank you very much!
Okay. Downloaded the files. Tested the video. It does stutter a little.
Tested with scary gov. Running video twice... 22sec at 128mhz. And none over 500mhz! So its not decoding over cpu
P.s. Yes, also did with performance. Same problem.
Now gonna make backup. And then flash file.
Noticed the lag myself. So maybe it's missing a video codec, so it's not using hardware rendering.
I'll flash the fix and see if it works.

It depends.
On modded stock ROMs, if the dev included z's audio lag fix, this problem will surface.
On custom ROMs (CM7 for example), the issue is already there.
This zip simply replaces the libs with those from stock ROM.
PS: It was one of the reasons why I didn't use Froyo custom ROMs.

So, it will give us back the audio lag while listening to music then?

You could have also said this in first Post, right?
flashed it and saw no big difference. I'm on WB4.0.4
Maybe he already included it.
P.s. Your test video is not realy high res ^^ does 1080p work on our phone? Depens on bitrate i guess.

Technically, yes. Personally, I rarely get any audio lags while listening to music except when there's CPU heavy stuff going on like installing a large app from the Market.

But I got terrible audiolag before Z's fix when listening to music, even when this was the only thing I did (no other tasks running, screen off).

It may be because I'm running a custom kernel. Barely any audio lag.
Is it possible to play the pps.tv with h.264?

Not really. We play HQ YT vids aka 480p
Try DL-ing a 720p or even a 1080p vid and play it... see what happens. Not to mention HD divx/xvid content
P.S. regarding audio lag. I still experience it while underclocking to 128MHz. It's doesn't happen while the sleep FQ is at 245, though

Movie taken with camera lags a bit

Hi everyone
I have a problem with movies which I took with the stock camera app. When I'm in FullHD mode, the video lags a bit. For example if I take a video of moving cars, it is not smooth as I expected.
It doesn't make a difference between internal or external memory.
I uploaded 2 versions (external/internal) to youtube. Maybe someone can help me with this problem.
If you need more information about it, please let me know.
Here are the links: (sorry, I can not use hyperlinks because I'm a new member)
youtu.be/UY_Jk1InBsE --> internal storage
youtu.be/XbN25t6SCOw --> external storage
Greetings
Darkrider
Or could it be possibel to fix the problem when I reinstall the camera app?
Does no one have this problem too?
Try turning off image stabilization if you've got it on see if that helps.
Does it happens only for full hd or also for 720p videos?

Working camera / camcorder !!!!! :D

Ok after like THREE DAYS!!!!!!!!! Of testing different cameras and camcorders I found one that WORKS! I wanted a camera that had the correct orientation for pictures AND would also have the correct orientation for videos but ALSO had the audio in SYNC!! FOR SOME FREAKING REASON most of the video recording apps for this device do NOT SYNC the audio to the video!!!!
I have attached it in a ZIP file. It was too big as an APK to attach. So just unzip it and install the apk. This is version 2.5.1. For some reason version 3.0.1 would flip the video upside down when recording with the camera on top, a problem that this version does NOT have . That is, this version has no orientation issues and can record the audio and video in sync!! One thing I do is I change the audio quality to 48khz in the camcorder settings. Took me THREE DAYS of testing camera apps to find this and I found no solution on the KFHD 7 sections so hopefully this will help someone else Have fun!!!! :good::good::good:
P.S. It's called "Camera JB+" which also installs "Gallery JB+"
UPDATE: Attachment removed due to it being a paid APP. Just search "Camera JB+" in the market to find it. It's the only camera/camcorder I've found that works on this device correctly.

Apparently it IS a paid app. I didn't see it when I searched "camera" in the app store. I got a result of like 250 and none of them were this one so I searched in Aptoide and that's where I found it. When I just searched "Camera JB+" in the app store it DID come up so I updated my post and removed the attachment. In any event, again, it's the only camera / camcorder I've found to work correctly on this device.
For cm11 willshep recommended in the dev forum section the
Nexus 7 Camera Launcher (playstore)
Seems to work great (after reboot). Even viedorecording has synced audio.

[Q] Video playing not working on xperia sola running CM11

Recently i started using CM 11 by munjeni for sola, everything is working perfectly except for the video playback. I tried everything, googled for days but i couldn't find the problem. When i open youtube app and i play a video there is sound but video is not "moving" it's just stuck on video thumbnail as if i didn't even press play, it doesnt work in play store, in browser, or in any app i could find. Does anyone have a similar problem?

that's because they could not fix the OMX, which allows video playback, and has been fixed in the Xperia U by User new maclaw, but he did not want to share their sources, so mujenji unable to carry this arrangement to xperia Go and Sola.
But as I read, percy_g2 manage to fix the OMX without sources of maclaw for xperia P, if true, I do not think it takes long before the single xperia Go and sola have this fix.
I have the same problem and I also tried everything but nothing was helpful
I hope mujenji fix it as fast as he can
Sent from my Xperia Sola using xda app-developers app
hey man
i found a solution for this problem and the video playback is working now lool
thx to ladywhite:

1. extract the zip
2. replace media_codecs.xml in system / etc /
3. give 644 permissions
