Hi, I have a xt912 Droid RAZR Maxx using 4.0.4 ICS and I used the root method that was provided here. I then went root app crazy and also installed the superuser.apk file with the Elite. I went and got clockwork mod touch installed after that, and when I did, the phone would say something like "system is upgrading" and after a while the custom front screen wouldn't work anymore and I lost root access. I since then did a FDR and everything except superuser left. I tried recovering the backup using recovery in fast boot, but it isn't showing as a choice from CWM. I used root checker and it says my phone is not rooted yet I can't uninstall the app only disable it. How do I take it off so I may re-root this phone later? I also used a backup from Titanium pro+root and it won't let me recover from that. Any help would be appreciated.

I rooted my razr using doomlords method and now i cant re-root it. Everything was fine until my gmail wasnt able to reply to messages so i unrooted and now it works again. So when i tried to re-root it, it didnt complete. I originally did i from another computer and that computer broke down on me. The cpu i have now doesnt have internet access. Could that be the reason why it wont root? Do i have to do a system reset? I dont get what im doing wrong. Please help

I think it has something to do with the motorola USB drivers you need to install.
you can check it also with ADB. I think you computer doesn't see your phone.
I had the the same problem when trying to re-root my razr. I went through the batch file lineby line typing it in manually. Here is what I found. It was not installing superuser the 2nd time around. It looked like I was rooted as I could use astro to access the / folder. I installed superuser and it started working.
Give this a try. Hope it helps.
ok so i tried to root my phone again with my work cpu and it still wont root. it reads cannot find the specified file. when i plug the phone to the computer it reads the device because it says all drivers are installed and ready to use. i also installed super user again and still the same thing. my phone still acts like its rooted but it really is not. i un-rooted using ginger un-root. now what? im thinking about just backing up my fone again, doing a reset and then root and then put everything back the way it was. but i dont wanna get rid of my free wifi tether. thanks for you suggestions so far, any other ideas?....

Hi
I checked my razr in the morning and there was an update available. So I clicked yes. The phone rebooted with no error. But now when I open titanium backup it says that I need root access. Did updating my phone get rid of my rooted access? I opened superuser and there was no message saying I need root access. Should I reroot my phone? If I do should I unroot first and root it again?
Yep, updates will usually break root access. You can re-root with the new motofail exploit. In future, check out an app called OTA Rootkeeper to save you the trouble.

Hey you all I rooted my phone a while back when I first got it. Now I want to unroot but I have a problem....My phone shows up as not being rooted, but I can't get rid of SU, can anyone help with this?
I can't remember which root method I did, I think it was called the "Forever Root" or something of the sort.

Look for mattgroffl's RAZR Batman utility
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1486718
in the development section, there is an automated unroot option in there.

I tried doing this method but when I did the command prompt said "'moto-fastboot.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file." The Batman utility is saying the same thing.
EDIT: I got it man thanks! I used it to do a Fastboot Restore to 173. Worked like a charm.
just a thought: what if you did voodoo temp unroot then hard reset the phone?
How to get rid of su
you can re-root the phone and then install root manager, in root manager go to uninstall apps and it will show all installed apps even the system apps, find the su .apk select and reboot, you phone will still be rooted but the su app will be gone. from there you just need to unroot.
I got it guys thanks for the advice!
I went from .181 and jumped to .210 ICS. I used rootkeeper and tried to restore the root. I already had the superuser.apk installed and when i used rootkeeper it said root was restored, but when i use root apps it does not work and the rootkeeper also tells me i do not have root access.
WHAT GIVES?
Sorry I can be more help. Did you uninstall super user and re load? I know there is a manual ADB push method that I used but you would have to use the search.
i tried uninstalling it and it wont let me

Hmmm. It is probably installed as a system app. Maybe you didn't update su binary before root backup? Try temp unroot and root with RAZR utility.

I just lost root access on my XT912. I have been notified of the recent update but have been ignoring it because my phone is flashed for Page Plus. I installed and uninstalled Superuser because SuperSU is installed. Could that have done it?

i had the same problem. I eventually had to use Matt's utility to reinstall stock ROM and root the phone (I did not install SS using Matt's utility). Then I installed SS 3.65 while in stock ROM. Then you can use VooDoo RootKeeper to backup root, then accept the OTA update, and finally use VooDoo RootKeeper to restore root. Worked great for me.

The ROM is stock Android 4.1.2. The flash was just to "fool" Page Plus (a Verizon MVNO) into thinking the Razr is a 3G phone since Page Plus does not allow 4G phones.
