i've read almost every single post related on this subject, tried almost everything but no go.
recently, i installed SS-6 to my girlfriend's Vibrant but she didn't like it, so i attempted to revert to my nandroid from the original stock rom.. nandroid gave an MD5 error and did not installed.
at that point, i had already wiped data/cache, prior to nandroid.
i rebooted the phone, and now im stuck on the Vibrant splash.
i have tried to go to recovery mode via hard buttons but no go. i actually tested with another Vibrant and on that one, im able to get into recovery so it is not that i'm missing pressing a button or what not. been trying anxiously to see if im able to go either to download mode or get into cwm and flash cyanogenmod!
tried to use ODIN/ADB in order to boot into cwm to flash another rom, but it doesn't see the phone. ive already installed samsung drivers.
if i connect the charger, the battery indicator doesnt come up. it stays on that lined-circle screen forever, even after taking the USB cable out.
please help!
EDIT: added [Q] and added some more grammar errors.
any help is highly appreciated.
I had this same problem... The only thing that would fix it was this thing I had to buy called a Jig. It was less than $8 (with free shipping) on eBay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fix-Download-Mode-USB-Jig-Samsung-Captivate-Galaxy-S-/140520601309
It delivered in 2 days and my phone is working perfectly now
just ordered one!
thanks!
one more thing, are you able to just install a different ROM through ODIN or ADB without having to do the full wipe? im wanting to save the contents of the internal SD.
thanks again
Help Please...I really need some now.
I had my phone unlocked and everything was fine. I have been updating the resurrection remix roms and enjoying them a lot. I was up to ver. 1.7. The problem is that I had some of the screen issues (fine horizontal lines on the screen) and I decided to get the phone repaired. I just got the phone back today and I noticed that Bell repair shop had wiped everything off my phone and put their stock version of ics on and the phone was no longer rooted. I have been trying to root the phone a few times now through Odin (like I did half a year ago) and at first it failed due to not being able to open the serial port. I opened Kies and the phone connected so I knew the drivers were ok. I tried Odin again and this time it went through and gave me a pass......but on reboot, it just hangs on the Samsung screen and I cannot turn the phone on at all now. I either am stuck on this screen or the CWM screen, but it won't carry out any command ie. power off, open zip from scard etc. I really need some help and quite worried about the phone now.
Please, please help
you allowed usb debugging?, go back to download mode and flash a kernel with root.
Go to download mode and flash a stock kernel. If you are unable to get into download mode because you said that your phone wont accept any commands for example pressing buttons then you could buy an USB jig. This will bring you directly to download mode. That would propably be your last chance.
Then flash a stock kernel back on there. Maybe the exact same which was on there before. Or just flash a stock full ICS Rom.

Yahoo!! I finally got the thing unstuck. I tried the Odin procedure again but this time I downloaded a more updated root kernel. It passed, then on bootup it wasn't stuck in space......although it still did not boot up properly. It ended up going just black...with no screen whatsoever. But the CMW program was working though and I was able to do a system restore from a month ago. I was very happy and very lucky I made that backup. Now, not only do I make the Titanium backup, but I also do a backup from the CMW program.....because now I know it's possible to freeze up before I ever get a chance to use Titanium. A good lesson indeed.
I recently went to unlock my phone via Z3X box, my phone was on 4.3 they said to downgrade to 4.1, I followed the steps using Cygwin Terminal in making a custom firmware, I flashed it via Odin and it passed, however was stuck at the Samsung Logo, no usally in this case I would boot into recovery and wipe data and cache, however my Home Button does not work, so I used my Jig to force in to download mode and flashed stock I747m 4.3, went to boot and same thing stuck at the Samsung logo???? any ideas what's wrong here???

Tried to factory reset after the 4.3 upgrade? Sounds like you might have borked your EFS partition with the z3x box, if a reset doesn't help...

Some info from there might be helpful if you are still stuck. I know it is for the Note 3, but many of the same ideas apply, though the mount points are most likely different thus you can't just copy and paste those commands and hope it works (might even make it worse if the partitions are that different).
Is the Home button broken or just stopped working after trying to do this stuff?
Yeah the Home button just doesn't work when you press it that's why I needed the Jig to get in to Download Mode, and the phone was fine after trying with Z3X box it didn't do anything with Samsung tools because I was on 4.3 it started when I created that custom firmware and flashed it, haven't been able to get it to boot since that even with Stock Firmware..
Think you might need to check out this thread then:

Sounds like an issue with the downgrade / bootloader deal. No Home button sounds like it might really cause some issues here though. Owning a repair shop, I'm pretty familiar with the S3 construction and it's pretty rare that the Home button stops working. Has it been repaired or gotten wet or something?
the phone was water damaged I just replaced the main board with a new one and the phone was fine minus the Home Button, and I have tried the SD card thing about 3 times now and it doesn't do anything???
Hello Everyone,
So recently I got a new S4 and I decided to root and mess around with it a little bit... Didn't go so well.
First KNOX was pissed that I tried that because I had given SU power to SuperSU (I didnt want to use KingUser) so when that happened, SuperSU failed to set itself as the primary SuperUser app. So I decided to install recovery (TWRP) to do it the recover way, scripts and all that. After that, I went ahead and removed KNOX, via the settings menu on the app.
Now I fail to boot into RECOVERY, and I also fail to boot into normal Android mode. When I attempt to boot normally, the SAMSUNG logo comes up then verizon, Okay fine its booting. 5 miutes later, the phone gets hot, and still wont boot.
I cannot charge the normal way, or even use the charging port. I have to take the battery out and put it in a dock. So ODIN is out of the choice.
My Phone Specs:
Samsung Galaxy S4 i545 (Verizon)
1GB SD Card
No recovery or ODIN.
Please help...
If you can't get into download mode then you have a problem.
Without it there isn't much you can do. You also need the pc to recognize your phone.
I'd say flash a custom ROM because new update which I received on stock firmware of I9500 added some security and an app called smart manager which is causing instability. Connect your dead phone to charger and then flash TWRP 2-3 times and don't forget to untick F.rest time and auto reboot. Normally it is ticked, and manually boot to download mode each time I hope you know how to do that. Then try your luck. That's how I did it. And use latest recovery available on the web.
Hit thanks
I believe the Verizon s4 has a locked bootloader (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2681316); therefore, you cannot flash a custom ROM or custom recovery.

if the port is physically damaged then you need to
get the port replaced
there is absolutely nothing you can do until you have the usb port repaired
. secondly hold power down while inserting the battery if that doesn't get it into download mode then congratulations you now have a 200.00 dollar brick
the i545 does not support custom recoveries or custom roms outside of modded stock roms attempting to flash one will result in a permabrick as you just found out
Once the usb is repaired if you are still unable to access download mode then you have a big problem. When the port is repaired see if the comouter recognizes the phone as QHUSB_dload, if so, you need jtag, if the computer doesnt recognize the phone then it is most likely damaged beyond repair.
Hello. I have a 2012 Samsung Tab 2 that was branded for ATT and the model number is SGH 1497. It has been in a drawer for a year and I never use it but I thought I would experiment with it and try to install the Marshmellow Rom even though I am a noob at this stuff. My first problem was that I saw nothing for my version SGH 1497 but I did read on a forum that the Rom 5113 would work for that model. After going through a lot of websites I finally found one that seemed pretty easy and the root process went perfectly for me, no issues at all. I then followed instructions and downloaded the needed files and moved them onto my tablet and all was going well. I was then instructed to boot into recovery mode and that is where my troubles started. I believe it said to hold power and volume down key. Recovery mode would pop onto the screen but then vanish and it would never go into it. So I did more reading and someone had posted that I needed to download the toolkit and re-install a new recovery mode. So I did that just fine and still the same thing happened. I then tried 2-3 more of the other recovery modes and the same thing happened. At that time the tablet would still boot normally. So then I did something else and now my tablet wont turn on anymore. If I push power enough times the Samsung logo will pop onto the screen and then it goes away and that's it. It will turn on to download mode but that is it. Nothing else. Im not upset because I knew this could happen but I surely should have came here first. Is there anything I can do to get this thing back working again or is it hopeless??
Thank you for any help and advice.
Thomas
I was able to fix it by finding the exact same firmware that ATT put on this tablet and then using Odin to flash it. Works fine and is rooted.
Does anyone know of a custom rom that will work on this model sgh 1497??
Thanks.
