I purchased a non Samsung MHL to HDMI cable from Amazon. When I connect it, all seems well. I can watch my videos, etc. However, I keep getting interrupted by a message that comes on the screen that says "Switch to Global mode?" and it gives "Cancel" and "OK" as the only possible answers. I have NEVER seen this message, it NEVER comes up unless I have this cable connected, and it IS very annoying. I have searched and can't find any information about this. It doesn't make sense to me why I'm getting it, but I do know that if I put the phone in airplane mode, I don't see it. Please...anyone!
It's a mystery I don't understand yet but all the Verizon phones are set to global when you get them. If we switch to lte/cmda that message pops at odd times. Seen that reported a few times.
I think its because they want them in global just incase we go somewhere it'll roam.

Yeah, I get that message when plugging in a USB OTG cable with a USB flash drive plugged in...
Strange
My S3 did this seemingly randomly, but always when the signal was poor. Only thing that stopped it was airplane mode, or just switching it to Global like it is asking you. There is really no reason not to, it still switches between 1x/3g/lte as usual. If you are worried about accidental global data roaming, well, on the S3 you can turn off in the settings menu.
Hope this helps,
Jason
Bump, I keep getting this error when I use the smart dock

Got some strange bug. In the notification "menu" it often say "mtp-initialization" even though i havent connected a usb to the phone, also it sometimes think im charging the phone and it gives me the charging animation even though i aint charging it. Why is that? It doesnt matter what rom i use the problem is always there.
Another problem i have is when i turn off the phone it shows me the green battery image plus a thermometer that shows me it is overheated or something.. its always there when i turn it off and to turn it on again i have to go to the recovery and reboot it from there to make it boot up. Why?

me too and it's really really annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it does that every 10 secs or so!!!!!!!
I have the same issue. The common denominator is it all starts after I have charged the phone. The MTP tries to initialize even though my usb is disconnected.
When I shut the phone down, it reboots after a few minutes with MTP trying to connect.
When I pull the battery and reinstall, I get a grey battery charging icon followed by a green icon followed by a battery icon with a warning triangle and a thermometer.
Same here. Any solutions yet?
I'm having issues with MTP and my Galaxy Tab 10.1, it says MTP connected after MTP initialisation but the Tab never shows up in Windows and Kies??
Same problem here, with unrooted i9100.
I think it has something to do with the usb port. I've red somewhere that the quality is very bad and that it is very vonurable to dust.
This is sooooo annoying i just want to put music on my phone and the only way to do it is take out my external sd card and put it on.
Had this issue also recently when I watched videos for longer than usual (Only around 40 minutes). Car mode started going crazy and the device wouldn't stay powered down. I then removed the battery for a couple of hours while I was busy and when I put it in again I got the green battery image that the OP described. From my searching this seems to be a problem based around the usb port and its connector. I tried doing what others suggested in similar threads and move the metal pin up slightly but this hasn't helped.
I'll be running the device heavily again tomorrow (Video wise) so if it acts up again I'm calling samsung for a replacement/repair. This is a really ****ty problem and stranded me in the rain as I couldn't even get the device to boot for 20 minutes due to the battery image problem. I also doubt it's a problem with the battery as I replaced my Anker 1900ma battery with the stock one and the problem persisted.
Wouldn't you be able to get it fixed under warranty, expecting of course that you restock back to original state....
Sounds like a hardware fault which would definately go under warranty...
I guess I should mention first of all that I am currently running Unnamed 2.2.1 rom.
Lately, I've had this issue where my phone will randomly show that it's attempting to charge, while it's not even plugged in to the charger. It will make the sound that it has plugged in, while it's not connected to any cord or anything.
Usually, when the phone does this, it lasts for a few seconds, and then goes away.
During this type of an event, I'm unable to touch some parts of the touch screen to press keys on it.
Just a few minutes ago, the phone freaked out and started to make the sound like it was being charged, disconnected, and then reconnected, for a span of 10 seconds, before I rushed it over to the charger, where it actually stopped making that sound.
While it's doing this, the phone will show the charging logo on the battery widgets.
I've been unable to replicate this issue on my own volition.
What should I do?
Flash back to stock - if it continues to happen (it is VERY likely to continue happening), you'll already be prepared for a warranty exchange.
A few people have had issues where the device has falsely detected cable insertions - it seems to be that when people receive a defective device, this is the most common defect.
95% chance you have a hardware defect - Flashing back to stock rules out the other <5% of cases and preps you for a return/exchange.
USB Port Failure.
Are you also seeing the steering wheel / v-lingo / driving mode?
Prep to Return to stock, Backup your data.
Search my name in the Q&A forum.
Yep same behavior mine started with when USB port failed.

I looked through the Q&A and found your posts on it. Thanks.
I haven't used vlingo with the new rom yet, so I can't say I've gotten that error. How can I force the error to happen once I return to stock?
It's a hardware thing, Completely random.
I never could figure out any kind of fault schedule it was on.
Not way to force it that I know of either.
Sometimes it was multiple times in a minute, sometimes it was hours.
Beep,..Boop,............Beep,.......Boop.......Beep.Boop.
1st thing they'll try is ordering you a new battery (you get to keep it, if you don't mention it).
Usually next business day.
Hey everyone, I could use some help with a few Thunderbolt issues I have.
Here's a few points of description about the issues:
Whenever I use data on the phone (either 3G or 4G), the phone browses fine for about 3-5 minutes, then suddenly powers off. When I power it back on, the phone says it has 0% battery left, and will very quickly turn itself back off. When I plug it in to charge, the phone will turn on without issue and say it has whatever % battery it had before it turned off suddenly the first time.
If I simply use the phone for calls or non-internet things, the phone works fine. Once it's turned off once, though, it'll think it has 0% battery and not even offline things will work.
The phone seems to work OK for short-burst internet browsing, like checking email, but anything continuous (web browsing, streaming music) will shut it down within a few minutes
While plugged in, I can browse the internet, stream music, etc. just fine without the phone ever having any issues.
As a less serious and potentially unrelated problem,
The phone is not recognized by any computer. I have tried changing USB cables, computers, laptops, installing drivers, etc., but the phone only lists itself as "Charging" and never says anything about USB connections / USB debugging.
The issues first started when I tried out LiquidSmooth ICS about a month ago, with the recommended newer radio. I tried running the MR2 and MR2.5 radios on LiquidSmooth, and that didn't seem to change anything, so I went back to my old Gingerbread AOSP ROM, but the problems persisted.
Now I'm running stock with the stock radio (S-ON unrooted), and once again the problems are the same. The phone has been trying to download the ICS OTA update, but it always says "DOWNLOAD FAILED."
Anyways I'm not sure if the hardware on the phone has just broken, or if it's possible to fix through software. Anyone have any ideas? It would be much appreciated.
Sounds like you have a bad battery. Only thing I can say is you must not have properly unrooted your device or you have one of the few phones that will not do an ota update. I had this happen to my original droid when froyo came out. They try pushing the update but just wouldn't accept it. Also maybe your battery issue is causing your update issue. So just get a new battery and go from there.

So Ive had my Note 2 since release on VZW. I have my ups and downs and I have read numerous threads from different forums about this situation. I wanted to know if this starting to become the norm, which it shouldnt be.
So lately I have noticed that my phone when I connect it a charger that it will make the the sound that it is being connected a bunch of times. Sometimes it wont charge after that and I have to let it sit for about 10min - hr while connected to get it to charge again. Yesterday I was planning to unlock the bootloader again as I got bored of stock. So I plugged into my computer and all I got was the normal ding ding when connected and that was it. I walked away to make me a "samich" and get a beer knowing it was going to be about an hour or so to get it unlocked, TWRP installed, pick a rom, and setup. So I got to my computer and notice that the phone was usb charging but no notification on phone for MTP or PTP. So unplugged/replugged and nada, Still got the ding ding and charge indicator but no usb connection.
Today I came back to the computer and saw that computer recognize my phone with
**In my head, female robotic voice*
"How would you like to open your files"
So at least it recognize my phone. I disconnected/reconnected and still popped up on phone for MTP/PTP and on computer how would I like to open my files. I even jiggled the cable to thinking that the port may be broken/defective. I changed cables just to make sure that maybe the cables are bad
Samsung Stock White Cable
Moto X Cable
HTC One cable
Generic Cable from Amazon
All good. So Im wondering if maybe the port maybe dirty and just need some air in the port or can the port itself be going bad. I had honestly tried for about 2 hours last night trying to figure out what I did wrong or if anything changed.
While I was searching around I found a way to root my phone without using my computer as I had no way to connect at the time which was awesome
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
Use Aragorn method, last selection. FYI
So has anyone else gone thru the above?
I mean pretty much right now my phone is fully operational and has full usb/charging functionality but I hate for this to happen if Im in ODIN or flashing something and it hits the fan and now have a paper weight. I have heard chatters that sometimes the the software might be the culprit as I am not seeing any kind of damage to the port that would indicate to be so.
Stock out of the box Software
OS: 4.1.2
Root only/Bootloader Locked
Confirmed via Odin and ADB that phone is recognize, trying to eliminate that it maybe a driver issue.
Checked Device Manager to see maybe driver maybe an issue but it did not even pick it up while connected at the time.
Threads I tried for troubleshooting;

http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...alaxy-note-2-usb-pc-connection-problem-3.html
Would like to note too ( <--ehh get it, see what I did there, lol) that I did send my phone in for repair twice, the first for memory card and the second for cracked screen. When I got my phone back the second time I have notice that horrid "Verizon" logo on the on the home button was gone. So happy about it. The problem which was minor at the time was when I connected my earphones into the jack and was charging it at the same time I had some weird distortion. Still does it but but just learned to to listen to my phone while charging.....
So idk if maybe somewhere down the line in repairs did something go fubar but Ill see what happens this weekend.
So decided to open up my phone and see what the hell was going on and I dont know if what Im seeing is correct. I checked the the Usb chip and the chip is marked with
SPH-L900_SPR
REV 0.9 LF-A G
NF 1241 SY
To my knowledge, this is a Sprint part. Keep in mind that I recently got my phone back from Verizon, well Asurion, from repair due to cracked screen. Like I said before the home button does not have the Verizon logo. Just a white blank button. I dont know if they share parts and what not.

The link above is the usb part I need for my phone but my question now is are these parts interchangeable like the screens or it is because its a Sprint Note 2 usb chip that Im having problems. I ordering the part as I cant claim insurance anymore until open enrollment in January. Hopefully this fixes the issue and maybe I can save myself the cash to have it serviced by a store.
I too gave up on trying to have my PC connect via USB.it only charges.I have 3 different computers and they only charge it. For transferring files I use air droid.

The problem Im having is I re-locked my bootloader and re flashed everything back to stock as I was following the insurance route to just get it fixed. But when I found out that I couldn't anymore then I went the other route to fix it myself. Now that I just want to unlock and start flashing away I cant because my computer wont read or register my phone. So Im waiting for the part to come in and do the repair myself. Easy fix in my opinion and will help out to get me to flash other roms. The only thing I was able to do is root the phone without my computer so at least I can play around with root apps.
Here is the fix, maybe it shud work for u guys

Hey all.
Hopefully somebody can help me here. My Wife and i both have the LG G5(H850 version)we have had them a number of months but today my wife's G5 started popping up with this "Power Supply" icon in the top left pull-down bar and it wont go away. Ive turned the phone of for 10 seconds, removed the battery, tried to change to a different USB connection but it just wont go away.
Just wondering has anybody heard or come across this in the past? any maybe knows a way to fix it?
Thank you.
Seems like the device thinks it's connectet to a computer via usb.
Maybe the usb port is faulty.
You may also try to connect it to a pc, disconnect it and see if it goes away. Otherwise factory reset or have it repaired or exchanged.
Yep, my first thought was the USB port has developed a fault. Ive already tried connecting to PC then selecting charge only and pressing "always" to use this option but as soon as its unplugged the USB icon comes straight back with the "Power Supply" problem.
