[Q] Where should I ask for insane rom testers? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I have attempted to port MIUI v4 from StrumerJohn's Gs3 rom. I think I did it correctly but I was wondering if there was any insane testers that will help me out. Where should I ask? PM me if you want to test.
PS: I didn't touch the kernel or anything with Gapps so it will probably be softbricked or without GAPPS.

IRC is usually the best place to test things if you aren't doing it yourself. Limits access to people that tend to be more knowledgeable and provides for instant feedback.

Thank you very much, I'll make a new post over there when I get home today and I will test it myselfbon saturday. If all goes well it will be up on sunday.
Sent from my Galaxy Note 2

Can anyone give me a link to the IRC? I looked around the forums and I couldn't find it. It sucks being new.
Sent from my Galaxy Note 2

Not to be a douche, but is there a reason why you're knowledgeable enough to port a rom but only have 5 posts on XDA and don't know what IRC is?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2

Very true, this is why I am hesitant to ask anyone to test it. I used alot of porting guides on xda and followed it step by step, but that does not give me any qualifications and I am still a noob. Lol I'm trying my best and it is really fun just to port and xda is a great community

Gotcha. I can't find a Verizon Note 2 IRC but here's the one for Sprint - http://webchat.freenode.net/ (found in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1981342). If you're unable to test your rom yourself, please share it with a developer or knowledgable user. Depending on what you've done, you could potentially brick someone's device and average users may be unable to recover.
Edit - the IRC may be for all GN2's. Just ask before sharing files.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2

Thanks man, I definitely do not want to brick any phones so I guess I have to find a developer
Sent from my Galaxy Note 2

There is a general channel on freenode #galaxy-note-2 is the channel name. There tend to be a lot of VZW users there, don't think anyone has created a VZW specific Note 2 channel.

Tutorials are sorely lacking around here. I'm fairly technically savvy, much moreso than the average person. But even for me it's pretty daunting for somebody that's relatively new to rooting and flashing ROMs to actually follow through with it. Most of the step by step guides require a masters in Android before you can even understand them. Between kernels, radios, AOSP/AOKP, CWM/TWRP, nandroid, dalvik, Odin, GAPPS, format/wipe, different kinds of backups... it's pretty crazy. I know it sounds so simple to people who are familiar with it, but trust me, to many people it's not. Especially with a device that costs so much money and you have to make sure everything is compatible with one another. The developers in here do a great job of creating a ton of this stuff to use but it doesn't seem like the most welcoming place for beginners or "n00bs". Seems most questions or problems are treated by saying "you didn't read enough" or "you screwed up" which isn't very helpful. Part of the problem is that guides and tutorials become obsolete and out of date so quickly, yet people don't want to give new advice because something similar is covered in a 6+ month old tutorial.
So long story short... any new tutorials are welcome! I'm considering rooting and putting liquid JB on my Note but feel like it's safer to just wait for the stock upgrade at this point. I "upgraded" my old HTC Magic back in the Cupcake/Donut days to a CM build with new radios/kernels/SPLs or something, and could never un-do it and ended up making the phone useless.
Another excellent thread ....
With your permission I'll gladly add this into the super thread.
It is tireless work like this, that sets the note section apart as the Premier place to be.
I have every intention of using the note 1 for several years to come for the very reason I stated above.
The members and contributors are beyond compare ...
Many thanks ....g

Lets get sbrissen a Galaxy Note 2! **CROSS POST**

This is a continuation thread for the one listed in Sprint Galaxy Note II General http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34775732#post34775732
I am posting this here also because we are donating to him so he can get a Verizon Galaxy Note II. So, if you want to chip in and help, since he will be developing for you guys also, feel free to donate here. Thanks.
We are at $284 already thanks to all the donations from Sprint GN2 users. You Verizon people need to step it up He will be bringing you guys AOSP also. Don't be leeches... lol.

Hey man, give us a little time. Some of us are still a little shell shocked. Remember, we just got charged for our devices
Not saying his work isn't needed but been following these "lets get this guy a phone thread" and some have put a rom out.others just got a phone. Some made an awesome rom, then stopped and moved on.. just my 2 cents... but hey hope you get what you need.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I've also seen my fare share of donations gone bad, so I can understand the skepticism. However, if you were to look at sbrissen's body of work you'll see that he still supports aosp on the fascinate. That should speak to his longevity to a device. Not to mention if sprint users are willing to donate to get a Verizon phone to a dev, it should speak to their work.
Please don't assume I'm trolling here. Just wanted to at least suggest that this dev won't disappear if he gets this device on your network. Figured the more devs the merrier. Carry on; enjoy this awesome GN2.

Thanks gregg...you should consider taking thr plunge, its really a superior device. Finally TW is manageable and the root methods and rom are budding out. Total excitement again! I sent my note in for charging issues and they sent me a brand new device....which I sold for a profit while getting the note 2. PM me if you want to know specifics.

I'm actually close enough to a note 2 that I can drool on it every day ...LOL
I bought one for my wife, and I agree, the device is simply amazing.
Samsung hit a home run with it for sure.
I've really wanted one badly, but I think I'll wait a bit more. Perhaps spring time, as we should see official JB this month or next, and I'm very intrigued to see what I can squeeze out of the note 1.
Mine is like new, and I've done well using an official sammy oversized battery and cover without losing NFC antenna.
But I know how you feel, that N2 rocks ....g
Enjoy your note2, I've been fighting the urge to get one and wait patiently for the note3.
OP Thanks and also enjoy your new device, Thread Closed and Thank You.

Pretty bad with computers, toaster ovens

and technology in general so I was gonna pay the twenty or thirty dollars to have one of the people that advertise in these forums do root my phone. Any longtime members have any feedback? Or recommendations there was at least two groups advertising in the rooting xdaforum last night...thank you.
Sent from my HTC One using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
Don't. I don't know a heck of a lot about your phone but I've seen this stuff go around and often you are wasting money
Of course this is just my opinion and take it how you'd like, but I know it can't be to hard to follow directions for most everyone and I'm sure there is clearly written guides to do so. Just go to your phones forum and seek a guide and read up. Ask for advice when this fails
And again just my opinion here but if you can't root your own device chances are it shouldn't have root access. What I mean by this is that you will have a greater chance of bricking down the road if you don't learn how to do things yourself, I see it all the time, so do yourself a favor and learn about your phone before it becomes anything more than stock, or else you have a high chance of having it be nothing more than an expensive brick
Feel free to ask more questions and I'll do my best to help, also feel free to tell me to mind my own business, either way...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Hell.,I need you in business brah. I found it to be solid advice and what I thought was the smartest route anyway. The learn about your phone argument is the truth. It's like Yoda, then you, then the Dalai Lama. I appreciate your wise words and will now trek down the path less taken for me. Wish me luck brother. And thank you!
PS any good video instructionals on YouTube you recommend over others.Little more of a visual learner ya know...long lists of written directions gives my ADHD the ****in fits! Thanks again.
Sent from my HTC One using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
Thanks, I'd be willing to send you a video link but not sure your phone, HTC one?
I'd just go to you phones forum and look for the stickies in either general or dev section, should be all the info needed to root and often a link to a YouTube video if its complicated

To be honest. If you dont can root your phone than you maybe let it be. I mean: with root you can kill (brick) your phone if you dont know what youre doing. If you do it yourself (maybe with some guidance) you will be willing to learn and search so it will be easier for you.

I have a feeling we're going to need Hash for the Note 3. Also had I not went back to a Note 2 I would have got the S4 since you guys got Hash on board. Now those S4 guys need to get DHacker a phone to get AOSP going through SS. Another person who will probably develop for S4 SS is nitroglycerine since he is very familiar with Moto SS using his Eclipse ROMs. Sorry for OT but it was a good thing you and others did for the S4 guys. In a sense glad they get to taste what us Moto lovers have been dealing with for a while now. I think most moto haters/Sammy lovers thought it would never come to locked BL's on their devices.

Hello fellow Note2 users! Ill be here to assist my good friend Obsidian in maintaining this thread. Just as he has stated we would like to keep all "Off-Topic" statements or random questions out of the Developers Threads and get them moved into here. Questions like what Kernel should i use really shouldn't be posted in Jelly 'Beans' thread for a multitude of reasons. Every device is different. Every kernel will act different on each device. And the thread is really about the ROM. This way it keeps the thread cleaner and we have one location for us users to congregate and hang out! We can discuss different ROMs, themes, kernels. WHATEVER! Or just shoot the breeze!
I'm always willing to help out with what i can! If you need something please don't hesitate to ask!
There is no such thing as a dumb question. There are such things as a dumb question being asked 100 times however! So do your research, the search function works great! Google it! LOL

@Obsidian... i was glad to see you were able to get Hash to help the S4 users out! Thats what this is all about! Even helping those out when you dont even have the device! Im rather curious how hard it would be to merge it over to the N2. The thought of booting from ROM to ROM in a matter of seconds again makes me miss my Bionic in SOME ways. Well OK one way! but still LOL.
Thanks for creating thread! I too came from the OG Droid, D2, and D3 and left Moto due to many issues and lack of quality.
It's great to hear that Hash is working with Sammy devices! Safestrap is awesome... Hope we can get some love for Beans and the N2.

Kitkat will be the next version of Android after JellyBean. As you may or may not know new versions of Android are named by dessert/sweets and in alphabetical order. The order goes as follows:
A was Astro
B was Bender
(The first two were never released to the public)
C was Cupcake
D was Donut
E was Eclair
F was Froyo
G was Gingerbread
H was Honeycomb
I was Ice Cream Sandwhich
J was Jellybean
And finally K will be Kitkat

I know. I've been calling it klp for so long it seems weird to call it KitKat I also thought it was going to be 4.5 not 4.4

I had no doubt that it was for sure gonna be KLP. Took me by surprise, (and a whole lot of others as well.) I like it tho. Makes me want to run to the gas station and pick me up one

Note 3 release in a little over 2 hours. Watch it live on YouTube. Unfortunately it'll be getting the Qcomm snapdragon 800 which is an awesome 2.3ghz quad core that's in the S4 LTE-A but also means it could be a securities nightmare like the S4.

The LG one that was leaked on the KitKat release? I don't think I could go to a smaller screen now. There also hasn't been any sign that it'll be an LTE device or on VZW. TBH I do love getting the latest version of Android on my Nexus 7 though and it would be nice to have a phone like that.

Ya the one on the release looked somewhat appealing...even though of course there wasn't much to see lol. And I actually am thinking that I wouldn't have so much of a problem with having a bit of a smaller phone now that I have a tablet. Before, I wanted a nice big phone. But I could sacrifice a half inch or maybe just a tad bit more....maybe...IDK!!

Hopefully I can get some help in this thread. Thanks for setting it up.
My issue is with the camera/camera preview.
If an app needs to use the camera to take a picture, it doesn't show the preview of the photo after the picture has been taken.
For example, in the Bank of America app, when I go to take a picture of the check for check deposit it doesn't show the preview of the picture for me to accept it or take to take another if the picture came out blurry.
Another example I came across is with the CamScanner app. If I take a picture to scan it to a .pdf, it does not show the preview of the picture after I have taken it.

Trust me you didn't miss anything. Basically a "Faster" phone, and a "Better" display. Oh and a weird leather back. More than happy to stick with the Note 2 especially since the Note 3 will probably be as locked down as the S4 on Verizon.
