Their have been several reports of the widget engine crashing on some ICS ROM's in the developers forums. From what I have found out is an issue with the layout of the screen this is causing the issue. I you notice, the widgets that have a 5x size are the ones that are crashing. Lets use Jorte Calendar as an example. Install Jorte and try to load a widget, it crashes. Ok, now go into Jorte setting > widget setting, and make all the 5x widget unavailable. Problem solved. This problem does not exist in other launchers, on in the default launcher.
I would have posted this in the developers forum, but I am new to this forum.
The development area would've been the wrong place to put this. Due to the fact that that section is for dev's to post their creations and such.
As for your problem I am not sure. I couldn't open then personalize tab when I was running ICS. Usually a reboot fixed that problem though.

You must not have understood my post. The developers do not know what the problem is. I was stating that I have a clue of what the problem is.
The problem lye's in the way the launcher deals with widgets that are too big for the screen. When the launcher tries to access a widget that is too big for the screen layout (4x4), the widget engine crashes instead of ignoring the over sized widgets.
Our threads differ a little bit. I'm making a list of bad apps, while you got a potential solution. you may want to PM a dev. they can work magic
Okay. THanks
I have only experienced the widget FC on one custom ROM. I believe it had something to do with one of the apps I installed, because it worked fine until I started downloading applications from the market. I tried a few times to reflash to pin point, but I didn't have a lot of time to see if that was the main cause of the issue.
personalize problems in ICS
I finally gave up on ICS yesterday after struggling for a week with problems with personalizing screens. I tried to narrow the problem down to specific apps, but eventually concluded that it was not caused by specific apps involving widgets. Every time that I downloaded more than a half-dozen apps from the market, I would start getting the "unfortunately, personalize has stopped working" messages, preventing me from adding any further apps to home screens. I could continue adding widgets or shortcuts, but not apps. Not even rebooting helped, and I would end up having to re-flash the ROM and start all over. It seemed to depend on the number of market apps that I downloaded, not necessarily the specific app. Even apps without widgets such as quickboot would cause the crash after the first half-dozen apps were downloaded.

Joelz latest sense rom has a fix included that will eliminate this problem. It completely worked for me, and I was having it big time.
Thanks, I will check that out. You are TheMan!
Edit: actually, it was his ROM that I was using when I had all the problems. It was ICS Sense Redefined-Always Brilliant![Sense 3.6][4.0.3]. I could never get past the personalize problem to add more than a few app short cuts.
even after jolez fix im having problems on scotts rom... i had no problem on his 2.3 but when i flashed his 2.4 all hell broke lose... i cant even some apps from the market like engadget? and no i havent done any other modding except installing apps?
anyone have any ideas bc right now i only have about 20 apps installed that actually work
Same here. Lots of FC's and some apps don't work.

I had to bail on ICS after struggling mightily to resolve the personalize problem, and I was scared to death about bricking the brand new phone after fighting the mainver problem seeking a return to stock root. Luckily, I found the RezRom GB Rom that includes an automatic fix for reversion from ICS. I highly recommend it, though I quickly nandroided back to stock root. I will be going back to RezRom this weekend when I have more time to tweak it.
The FC's of Sense and personalization appears to be related to apps installed on the SD Card.
Go into settings > apps > on phone (2nd tab) and uncheck any apps that have a check mark and move them to the phone.
If you have none checked and still getting the FC's then for sure I am wrong.
^ but none of mine are on the SD card?
Getting it on cleanROM 3.0 for the first time, no apps on sd card.

Guys, Can I pls get your help for the below issues I have with my Sony Tablet S
I cant seem to "close"recently used apps', even after completely shutting down & disconnecting power. Its like I want to "delete browsing history" on a PC
I cant seem to log-out of Gmail at all as I can't see an option to do so.
The remote control learner does not learn at all, inspite of following all instructions. I have a Pioneer Amp to control music, but I've had no luck. After some research I've found out that the tablet can only learn from some models post 2011. Is this true?
I also have an Onkyo reciever for which I've downloaded the andriod app. This works well, but the app inevitably starts with the wrong orientation - inspite of my best efforts to hold the tab in the correct direction in which the app opened the last time. (It seems to rotate regardless)
I have no other issues such as force close or auto dimming as per my understanding of the most frequent issues on this forum
Thanks for your help guys. I really need it. Cheers
You could use "Advanced Task Killer free ( Or pro )
If you close an app does not mean it really shuts down but it wil stay there in memory,
The Task Killer will terminate all running apps.
Gmail is always running unless you uncheck the auto synchronize with Gmail,
you can find that in Settings / Accounts if that's what you meant.
I have several IR devices and i choose them from the device list no problems at all some actions didn't work well so I had to learn it from my remote control that worked fine to.
Orientation is a known issue but if you have your tablet rooted you could use a rotation app which requires root access something like full rotation i quess can't remember.
Don't mind my English

I have learned my tablet remotes from Dreambox 800HD (digitalbox for cable) and from my Harman Kardon AVR255 EU (reciever) and both are pre 2011. I also got it to work with a tv and digitalbox when I was visiting my father in the US. Can't remember the models though, but no problems with the remote. The tv in US was an old "fat-tv" not the new flat-tv
Honeycomb has no built-in method of killing apps at user request and for a good reason: Android does a better job itself. If Android needs to kill an app, it will do so, so you don't need to do it yourself. As for clearing history and the like, thats a bit trickier, but the stock Browser does include Incognito tabs for private browsing.
Gmail, on the other hand cannot be logged out of unless you go into Settings -> Accounts & Sync and either turn off Gmail sync (which still leaves you signed in, but not updating) or simply delete the Google Account. Gmail's not really made to be signed in or out of regularly.
As for your problems with the IR, thats definitely not the case and whatever your problems are, they're relatively isolated. Can you give us more detail on what you've tried and what happens when you do so?
With your Onkyo app, that almost invariably means that the developer has not included landscape support. If there is no landscape option for an app, it will force rotate to portrait, or vice versa if the app doesn't have portrait support. If you're sure they have, make sure that the Auto-Rotate Screen in your Settings toggles is set to On and if it still doesnt work, email the developer and let them know. Could be an isolated issue.
The question was not how to kill apps the question was how to delete recently opened apps and I have this question too. It seems there is no way.
Where are you finding these recently closed apps? As far as I knew Honeycomb didn't have any equivalent of the pre-3.0 "hold home button" dialog. The multitasking button in the bottom left shows running, paused and killed apps together, so there is no way to differentiate between recently used and closed apps, and recently used but still running apps.
maybe this helps

dont know about honeycomb cause i never tried this on it but on ics u can drag the apps out of the recently opened apps drawer and it disappears... try it... maybe it helps... or u can wait for the ics update to help u get rid of this issue....
Yes on ICS. But ICS came out last night us only for the moment. And with he there is no way.

As Schrammi said, that is a new ICS feature and on Honeycomb, the only way to clear apps from the multitasking panel is to reboot (which will also end the app, obviously)
Q&A for [MOD] Remove CarrierIQ
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [MOD] Remove CarrierIQ. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!

This might be a little late but I was searching Google for a solution, and stumbled onto this thread.
I think I have an answer to this. I just rooted my HTC One M8 (running 4.4.4 on AT&T), and started reinstalling apps. The stock 4.4.4 ROM might not have C IQ, but I think the HTC Service Pack (v. 1.1.853606) patches it onto devices. This is auto-installed inside of the Google Play store, I just saw it installing about a month ago and didn't realize it contained Carrier IQ.
The reason why I think this delivers it, is because around that date, I also noticed my "GPS signal" icon turning on, even when Wifi+4G+GPS were all turned off. I downloaded the Voodoo CarrierIQ Detector and confirmed that "Carrier IQ has been found and is active."
The app gives me these details:
detection score: 270
ROM binaries and daemons
/system/lib/libiq_client.so
/system/lib/libiq_service.so
Running processes
system 3815 1605............diagandroid.iqd
Suspicious classes
com.carrieriq.iqagent.service.receivers.BootCompletedReceiver
So, somehow, in the few apps I've installed, Carrier IQ has definitely been added, and is definitely recording data.
EDIT: Actually, I'm starting to find some of the files. Using File Explorer (FX) on a rooted HTC One M8, I looked in (from the 'Home page' of the app):
Code:
System(root) > system > app
I see the "HtcResetNotify.apk" and .odex files. I'll attempt to delete and modify the files listed in the first post and confirm that I can manually remove them.
EDIT 1.5: I couldn't find three of the files the original post had listed for delete (all in the /system/framework folder):
frameworkEDIAG.jar
frameworkEDIAG.odex
framework-res.odex
EDIT 2: Deleting files went fine. I copied over the other files and...well....my phone immediately rebooted and it's now stuck on the 'htc one' splash page during boot. I'm praying that someone has the original files for the 3 "MODIFIED" files. Anyone?
EDIT 3: All is not lost! I forced a reboot (Power+Volume Up) and it came back on. I checked the folders where I deleted, and the libiq_client/_service files were back. Deleted those again. The other files I deleted seem to be back as well...not sure what happend.
EDIT 4: Ok, so in case anyone finds this. I have a rooted HTC One M8, and I want to keep it stock (except for the root). My solution was to get two apps:
1. "AutoStarts." This was a paid app ($1.60 USD I think?) but ended up not having Carrier IQ in the process list. I did end up using it to block other auto-starting applications, and it immensely sped up my boot time and kept the OS running smoothly for long stretches, no reboots required.
2. "MyAndroidTools." This was free (I think it has a paid version) and allowed me to find and disable the Carrier IQ process. Note that this app is made by the same developer as "Disable Services," less filter features in Disable Services but no ads as far as I can tell. Same exact processes show up though, and the disabled/enabled carries through between MAT and DS.
After setting MyAndroidTools up to disable Carrier IQ (found under "Service" type -> "System" tab -> "Android System" item), I used "Voodoo Carrier IQ" to check for the process. It found the files, but said it was inactive.
However, either after rebooting or a long enough period, it seems to be running again according to Voodoo. I have not seen it turn on GPS anymore, so MyAndroidTools may at least prevent it from re-hooking and turning on GPS. Maybe it's just on and logging local actions, I'm not sure. But I still have not seen in show in Autostarts; if it did, I would hope to step the process from re-hooking completely.
Hopefully someone getting here from Google will find some of this helpful.
Dondula,
You're not crazy. This IS an issue. There are several others experiencing the problem with the IQ Agent constantly turning on the GPS. It seems to happen anytime your service changes (no service -> 4G <-> 4GLTE). It is particularly bad for me as my office building gets poor LTE reception, so my phone is constantly going from 4G to LTE and wreaking havoc on my battery. I haven't found any solution yet.

I was able to get rid of this issue by disabling the carrier IQ service. I did this using an application called Disable Service from the Google Play store.
Works like a charm, and has the added advantage of disabling the IQ service intrusion.
Hi,
This is my first time specifically posting a question as a Q&A style thread so I hope I'm doing this right.
I have been using the Redmi Note 2 for about a month now. Overall, it's been a great phone (especially considering the price). However, I've been experiencing a couple of issues and I am hoping that some of you may be able to help.
I have rooted the phone but have not installed a ROM/kernel.
I have been using Wakelock Detector to track my battery life. Of most significance is com.baidu.map.location (NetworkLocation). I have attached the two screenshots showing the frequency of how often it wakes up my device. I tried to greenify it but it wouldn't allow me - it says "Sorry, "NetworkLocation" is ingreenifiable". Does anyone have any idea for me?
I have also been trying to use Amplify as another means to try and improve battery life. As mentioned, my phone is rooted, and the app prompted me to install the Xposed app which I did. However, after installing the app, it wants me to install the framework but it does not allow me to. I have attached the screenshot of this too.
Nova Launcher - Sometimes when I open the app drawer, the resolution of the app launcher appears funny. To fix it, I normally just press back and go back into the app drawer and it goes back to normal. I have attached a screenshot of what this roughly looks like. This is not a big deal but can be a little annoying. Has anyone experienced this?
SD Maid - I used to use this app on my old Galaxy S3 i9305 to clear out storage space taken up by unnecessary stuff. This app no longer works on this phone. I have attached a screenshot of the issue that I am having.
I have downloaded Auto Call Recorder from the app store with the intention of having it automatically record my phone conversations. It does not work but I am unable to figure out why. I have checked the settings and I cannot identify any obvious setting that is incorrectly configured.
Flynx - I have been trying to use Flynx as it appears to be an incredibly useful app, but it seems something is not working correctly. In the screenshot that I have attached, where it says "Tap on the bubble to open it!" I am assuming there is a bubble that is supposed to appear for me to tap, but it does not appear.
APUS Launcher/Clean Master - finally and maybe most worryingly, I sometimes get 2 or 3 apps "pushed" to my device prompting me to install it. I can only remember 2 at the moment; APUS Launcher and Clean Master. Fortunately, I am asked to give the app permission for installation but it worries me because it has occurred a few times and I did not download it at all. I do not have a screenshot of this at the moment, but I will do it next time it occurs.
I have been told that my provider (Vaya in Australia) sends out a SMS for "automatic update" purposes. I only spotted this because I have noticed that I was charged for 2 separate international SMS on 2 occasions when I did not send them (to a UK number, +44 7786209730). I am not sure whether this one is a phone problem or something else.
I appreciate any of your assistance in advance and I am sorry if I have not provided enough information. I am also not sure as to which issues may simply be app problems as opposed to a problem with MIUI software or Xiaomi.
Hope I will be able to get some assistance!

Does the crash happen when the dialog opens, or when you click the orange entry?
Try giving your sdcard a name, possibly doing it from a desktop computer.
Hi, the crash happens when I click on "Overview" then click on "To start press [refresh icon]" and then you just press there - what normally happens is it will give a overall summary of the phone.
However, I have just tried it again. When that error message comes up, instead of tapping on the listed entry (as is instructed), I press "Done" and it is able to give me a summary!
So for some reason it appears as though it doesn't work (at least from the error message), and I just press done and it still works.
Thanks for your reply nevertheless! Would not have figured that out had you not replied hahaha.
If you just press "done", SD Maid won't have access to your external sdcard.
Did you try installing the Xiaomi EU rom, since it's supposed to be cleaned from chinese apps (Like the baidu one).
Hi all,
Sorry it seems like I never came back to expand what I have done to try and fix these problems.
I ended up changing to Hermes ROM here http://www.smiui.net/redminote2_hermes.php
Most of the issues above are now solved, but there are some that are still present such as #2 and #5. So Amplify still doesn't work, but I think this is a hardware limitation and Auto Call Recorder still doesn't work. As for why Auto Call Recorder doesn't work, I don't know why, but I am not greatly bothered by it so I have not attempted to do anything to resolve that problem.
Hello, guys,
I have had Redmi Note 3 for 6 months now and I have been struggling with an annoying issue.
Whatsapp gets killed after a little time of idleness and unless I kill it in the task manager and restart it, I cannot either receive or send messages. When I check in the running apps section, it is not there so the OS certainly kills it. And just clicking its icon on the desktop, opens the GUI but it does not work unless I force close it and re-open it.
I have had issues with Whatsapp on previous devices - more of the common stuff - delayed notifications, messy push service. This is something else.
MIUI 8 is notorious, it seems, for its RAM and Battery management killing apps and I often struggle with that, too. For example: I minimize VLC to open Firefox. I switch back to VLC - ok, the movie starts over, the app has been killed. This is really annoying and I have turned off all kinds of optimization to prevent it, with no success. I am not sure, though, that it is connected to the Whatsapp issue. Because Whatsapp seems to get killed when the phone is idle for a moment but not when switching between apps.
I rarely use Viber but I think the situation there is the same. I sent a message to a friend and I got no response. I opened the app 5 days later and the response came However, it had tried to arrive 2 minutes after my original message. But I had not opened Viber for 5 days, so...that happened.
Let me know if you need details about my settings. I would be really grateful if someone can share some insight on what might the issue be. I guess if I root the phone I can try and locate the culprit module that kills apps. Maybe edit a config file to disable the killing functionality. It is clear this ROM does not like running apps....
Thanks,
Kiril Ekblad
P.S. I have been on Google multiple times: nobody seems to have that issue.
Disable battery saver
developer options -> disalbe MIUI optimization
MIUI is way to aggressive in killing apps ....
maybe go for a custom rom?
You can follow this https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...de-redmi-note-3-sd-mtk-multi-tasking-t3358433 and see how it`s going with push up notification.
When i`ve used miui 8, i`ve done this things and it seems to work good, but anyway push up notification came with a small delay..
For this reason i left miui 8 (very bad ram management) and flashed nougat custom rom and everything working good
Thank you, all
I have actually tried all of these and all steps in the quoted topic. No difference whatsoever. I would gladly go for a custom ROM bit things have gotten really complicated lately. A coupke of yeara aho I would easily grab and flash a custom ROM. Now when I browse through the ROMs topics here I get frustrates.
Something about firmwares, stuck bootloaders I have no idea where to start.
Oh and I don't want to lose slow motoon and time lapse videos. Do you know of a custom ROM that supports them ans the stock one does?

Try clean flash of MIUI ROM or flash Epic / Xiaomi.eu ROM
Thanks, I will have to research on the EPIC/EU ROM.
I am all for changing the ROM as long as I can cope with the flashing and I do not lose any of the significant features of the stock ROM.
By the way, recently - the last several days - I have noticed that on multiple occasions Whatsapp seems to be running - it is showing in the Running apps and still the program cannot either receive or send until I force close it and re-start. Whatsapp web also says Phone not connected.
