Nexus 10 4.2.2 coming soon... - Nexus 10 General

I have been seeing these UA's popping up quite a bit over the last few days, especially at the bench marking sites.
Code:
Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 4.2.2; Nexus 10 Build/JDP66) AppleWebKit/535.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/18.0.1025.166 Safari/535.19
Looks like Android 4.2.2 build JDP66 is out there & likely will be hitting Nexus 10 devices shortly as it is already rolling out to a few Nexus 4 users.
Anyone else seen anything on this version? Any leaked change logs?

Supposedly 4.2.2 is already being pushed to nexus 4s in Brazil & Malaysia but I haven't seen anything about the nexus 10 yet
**edit sorry should have read more thoroughly that you'd mentioned this in the op

I don't think it's been pushed, but rather a couple nexus 4s in Brazil and Malaysia were shipped with it. Though I could be wrong, the details were sketchy at best

I'm not entirely sure who is to blame actually. Given that the mdnie code is missing from the kernel, it's entirely possible that the proprietary blobs from Samsung are in a way "pre-calibrated" when sent to Google.
Now of course, you could also make the argument someone at Google should have said "hey this doesn't look right", but then you're just playing the blame game lol.

I just wandered over to the Nexus 4 forum to see if there was any info about it there. There's a thread in General which has a youtube video in it (I can't do links yet but you should be able to find it).
It looks like it may be fake, because of the way it turns off.. reminds me of CM with that TV effect.

Good to know, thanks man! How's your day going? I'm trying to get 10 posts in so that I can post in dev :good:

Android 4.2.2
Does this update already come pre-installed on Nexus 10 and Nexus 4? or is it the next version after it? I'm confused.

4.2 currently comes installed on the N10. 4.2.1 will download and have you update upon setting up for the first time. 4.2.2 is the rumored next update to 4.2.1.

I just hope that next update will fix screen calibration and google chrome problems

I would say it's more than rumor. While the video itself may be from some lonely attention seeking geek, the UA's showing up in multiple counties via numerous server logs, not just BM sites either, I'd say there is most definitely a 4.2.2 update on its way. I would not have even posted anything in the first place if I hadn't been able to find it in the logs of numerous servers.
Not to mention, it would be pretty dramatic & a bit too thurough for your typical hoaxster, as I was able to find it for several Nexus devices.
Currently there are many things that are bugging the heck out of me, including keyboard issues, screen calibration, & the processor which cannot be optimized as it lags much more than my Note 10.1 with its Exynos 4412. There are times that the Nexus 10 is almost flung across the room by me, so frustrating.

I hope it is going to solve reboot issue as well......

Don't get your hopes up, I don't think they'll ever change the screen calibration and Chrome's issues are not going to be fixed in a ROM update. Chrome's issues will be fixed in the new few months.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD

what screen and chrome issues are you experiencing?

Most likely he's experiencing he affects of a poor factory calibration. Washed out color with poor gamma tracking (boosted shadow detail) . Overly warm color temperature (red tinted whites) , and extremely poor color accuracy (muddy and inaccurate colors. This is well documented on anadtechs review of the ipad 4, as they compare measurements against the nexus 10.

GTA 3 for Android.

I decided to grab this today, seeing a few comments about some Nexus S users saying it works fine. It's only $5, so what have I got to lose.
It seems to crash after the title screen, phones goes all black screen and stops. Anyone else have any luck? I'm running CM7.1 with the Trinity 1.44GHz kernel. I'm going to try different rom and kernels this evening.
I'm interested in this too. We may have to use chainfire 3d?
How do you buy it if your device is incompatible?

I sent an email to Rockstargames NY explaining the situation with FC on the Nexus S. I will let you guys know as soon as I receive a response. I would imagine it would be hard to optimise applications for every different hardware/software combination but I am pretty disappointed in RS that they didn't think to test on the NS considering it's a dev phone.
Like someone previously stated, at the time of my download there is no mention of compatibility with any specific handset so I assumed it would work. I'd say this will be fixed soon, so I won't be after a refund (happy to wait!) but hopefully they respond quickly.
Real nice on my atrix, got it working with sixaxis but the controls arent mapped so will have to work it out by trial and error. Get in/out of car is F and the analogue sticks work out of the box, hopefully someone will work it out and post a list
I bought it this morning and it runs great. I'm on a Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 running galaxy task v8 and pershoots kernel oc'd to 1.4GHz. It has occasional lag but its lag that existed on the ps2. Overall I'm happy and it was £3 well spent.

Really want this game
Was just saying to myself the other day how my ns could last be with me for years to come. But being able to play this game would easily make it worth upgrading. Anyone know how the hardware compares to ps2? I would imagine it to be about the same or a little better...

I hope not soon it is so buggy that I don't want to have it on my HOX+. I have 4.2.1 on my Nexus 7 and it sucks: random reboots, reduced battery life and laggy application switching and scrolling. No thanks. I am fine with 4.1.2. BTW 4.2.1 got released just a few weeks ago. If we see 4.2.x for the Hox+ then it will be a few months from now. The HOX hasn't even been updated to Jellybean 4.1.2 everywhere.

You guys are doing something wrong. I have not had a single issue with 4.2.1 on my N7 or my GNEX
Well, the Nexus 7 (first gen) works "fine". The issues my bro has encountered are more along the lines of smoothness (as compared to JB 4.1 he upgraded from) and overall stability. It's not a deal breaker, but he does point out he preferred the overall performance of his device previous to the upgrade.
Note: He doesn't have any non-Play Store apps installed nor any launchers/skins/themes.

And what's the big rush on this version 4.2 exactly? Seeing how the crappy camera and Bluetooth issues are HTC firmware related and nothing to do with JB, again what will this JB 4.2 offer us? 4.1 flies for me and never an issue here. Guess everyone is amazed with the JB 4.2 sphere, lol?
New gallery (who knows what HTC will do with this), photo sphere, Lockscreen Widgets, multi user support (think this is tablet only feature), improved notifications, "daydreams" (aka screensavers), native wireless display support, improved keyboard w/ swype functionality. Along with other "optimizations" but then of course we have all the bugs that's cropped up, along with missing months in the phones contacts section.

4.2 sucked
I had such a bad experience with 4.2 on my Nexus 7 after the OTA update that I wondered if something had gone wrong with the update. I couldn't believe google would have released such a terrible upgrade. The internet is rife with reports of the issues. For me, it was so bad that I decided to give an unofficial beta of cyanogenmod 10 for the Nexus 7 a shot. That ran so much better that I've never even updated to a more recent release.
I'd much rather see a good, clean close to stock 4.1 rom come out for the AT&T version of this phone than get an HTC 4.2 one.

You did something wrong or your device is broken. My Nexus 7 (WIFI) and Galaxy Nexus (GSM) run amazing on 4.2.1 (and ran fine on 4.2)
Then again i gave both devices a fresh start and wiped them both. Most of the issues I see come from people who upgrade and do not start over (maybe the change in file structure? I don't know).

I tried clean wipes as well. You clearly do not know what you're speaking about. Spend 15 minutes reading in various forums or in tech magazines about issues with 4.2, especially related to the Nexus 7. There is a ton of information out there. Thousands of people didn't do something wrong or have broken devices. After reverting back to 4.1 via the cyanogenmod rom that I have, the device runs exactly as well as it did under the out of the box 4.1.
Don't listen to people that tell you 4.2.1 is great. Look at the N7 forum: tons of complaints about 4.2.1. Stupid to say that they are all faulty devices. Mine is flawless and buttery smooth on 4.1.2 and like rancid butter on 4.2.1

Ubuntu Developer Preview DNA Compatibility

Anyone know if sideloading the Ubuntu Developer Preview would work with CWM on our phone?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBJ7U3omGps
We need to get a working CM build before we can do that. Currently, the N4 and GN builds are using a CM kernel as a base for the Ubuntu Dev preview. Theoretically, we can build something that boots (since we do have a booting CM build) it would lack a ton of things though such as voice and data.
If someone knows a bit more info, feel free to correct me.
The developer preview is limited in these functionalities anyway as far as I'm aware

After watching several videos on Ubuntu, I'm both excited to try it, and little confused. In almost all videos, it looks almost exactly like Android. The task bar looks the same, it pulls down the same way, the icons look basically the same.
Don't get me wrong, I love having options, but it doesn't seem to be very unique.
Any thoughts on this?

There are several differences. First of all, the thing you will most readily notice is that there are not button/hardware or otherwise for the ubuntu phone OS, it uses gestures similar to the blackberry 10 OS. In some instances this is better at other times, it is nice to have a button. In the long term, your benefit will be the ability to have a larger screen on a smaller device since you won't have to have a longer device to accomadate the buttons.
From a more technical standpoint, using pure linux removes some of the more contentious parts of android like the use of Java. Some of which may provide a faster user experience on the same hardware if Ubuntu can manage to ditch xorg. You could also, argue that the app availability and scalability of ubuntu is greater than android. In other words, soon you'll be able to walk around with a linux device that you can plug into a monitor and blu-tooth keyboard and have a full fledge desktop all from the same hardware -- Carry one device - access it anywhere and in whatever capacity you need it at that time.
Put it on my galaxy nexus it's not really all that it is fun to play with but I had problems with calls. DNA is much better but stock android will make this the best device all day. If only it had the front stereo speakers powered by beats this phone would never need to be upgraded

I know that S Health wouldn't work because of the sensors. I'm pretty sure S Drive and Air Gesture will get ported to the N2.
I'm wondering about the Dual Camera mode or Smart Pause, will that be a possibility on ours or is that a hardware issue? Anything in particular you guys want to see ported?

I don't get this kinda logic. Google has to build and test the next update, sometimes the update has bugs. Would you want a new update just because it's new and have problems with it? I wouldn't. I'd rather samsung wait and finalize their update, while waiting for Google to fix any problems.
Samsung still has to build and test their rom. To me as long as I get the update I'm fine. If I wanted updates that badly I'd be with the nexus 4

So if im understanding what youre saying youd like a still broken 4.2.2 update? Its not fixed yet, its been months now since it was released. I think we take the L on this one and move on
Stock 4.2.2 crippled my N7, so much so that i literally gave it away. At this point, as ashamed as I am to say it...samsung has done more to fix it than google has
Verizon recently jumped the gnex from whatever it was on straight to 4.2.2. Chances are we wont see a 4.2.2 OTA or leak before Android 5 (or w.e its called) is announced in May. 4.2.2 was meant to be a foundation for 5, so why not skip the 4.2 update, which, IMO doesnt bring much thats meaningful to the table anyway and go straight for the next version?

I'm wondering about the Dual Camera mode or Smart Pause, will that be a possibility on ours or is that a hardware issue? Anything in particular you guys want to see ported?

I would think S Health would be possible. The Note would get the necessary software upgrade and the accessories would house the sensors.

Hot reboots, general laginess (even after turning off background sync on Currents). Battery life tanked. I gave it away so I can't remember the rest.
For what it's worth on the update of our phones and skipping 4.2.2:

Stooked about key lime pie, but wondering if it will bring new problems for developing? I hope not, the dev community we do have for our beloved Note 2 do a great job, regardless.

Hopefully they upgrade the Verizon variant too. I am new to VZN (came from Sprint) and from what I read/heard the updates come late if at all.
I would love to use the finger hover feature on the s4 with my note 2. Doesn't seem like it would be tough since the s-pen code probably looks for data from the pen and ignores fingers which is likely more complex. I personally have waited for tablets to add this ability for things like menus on non mobile pages so if this update does happen on the note line I might consider the note 10.1 over a nexus 10 or a 4th gen ipad.
I know the s-pen does the same thing but I personally find the tip is difficult to depress at angles and using it for drawing is basically impossible since the screen position sensor resolution isnt quite fine enough for precise pixel selection.
Half the people, including those on the forum probably dont even know half of the features the n2 even come with.
For instance, on a list of people (sms, phome, contacts), you can press on a contact and slide left to text or right to call. One more exampke are the s-pen gestures....sigh....

It's probably a version problem when Google put it on the store.
It's not compatible with my DX on Sense JB rooted.
However...
It's not compatible with my Nexus S so... I supposed it's the same error that Google+ get on a update.
Last month, a Google+ update change the application as not compatible with other Android versions than 2.2 and 2.3.
Not available in my country
I have 5 devices here, compaitble with 3 of them. Weird. What a terrible mess of an OS android has become. It makes development very unpleasant at times, especially at a higher (Java) level. Most of the advantages of Linux are absent (RAM management is comparatively poor due to it being a battery powered device) and a lot of the ease of development of iOS is also gone as you have to lower your SDK version way down as many people are on previous versions.
It's only a keyboard, but it highlights a lot of my annoyances with Google, kotowing to the carriers, to the manufacturers and the complete lack of consistency.
I used to hate iOS then gradually the niggles in Android got very annoying, and I'm leaning more and more towards it as I go! Apple's aggressive favouring of user experience is annoying sometimes for a developer but for daily use for an end user it is far superior.

I won't! Couldn't bring myself to pay an extra hundred bucks for apple branding. Their products are decent but the prices are a bit insane! Windows 8 phones are surprisingly pleasant to use too. I'm all for more competition in the market to push some innovation and try to drive the prices down!
Ross can share the apk of the keyboard (from any supported device)? Wanna try it out before they fix it (if they'll fix fast as hangouts then we have more than a week...) Tnx

I've headed into work, only have the DX with me at the minute sorry. The apk will not load on the DX if sideloaded anyway, unfortunately. Good old HTC removing functioinality with nothing added. Again. Sorry. I'll have a look around online for one, I'm sure it's out there.

Np, found it in apps and games section and it doesn't work. Parsing error every time...

Same here yeah. Things not working on a HTC / Android device is becoming the norm lately
its on xda already, just download and install
works perfectly for me, no problems at all, im still on ics btw
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2312204
Parsing error in jelly bean still. Hmmmmm.
Works for me on JB, but uninstalled it because SwiftKey is just so much better. SwiftKey seems to be the only option which suggests a world while your swiping, the others only suggest after you've swiped. It makes it so much quicker.
And I'm also stock JB rooted...
Using SwiftKey myself! Not too bad.
what are u talking about. i downloaded the google keyboard from play store on my stock ics desire x and use it with no problem.

dont try to be smart now, you do know at least 2 people in this thread saying the keyboard works on jb
But not for many others. There is an issue that's all I'm saying. Works on my s4, s3, nexus. Not on stock in here from play store. Bugs on my HTC one also.
You were bring smart first too, doesn't work i asked the question out of curiosity. No bother on other devices for me. 2 people sitting beside me have same issue.
