[Q] Can I flash camera.apk - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My stupid friend has deleted me the camera.apk through titanium
Can I just flash this apk or I have to flash a rom?

Either re-flash or use root explorer to move the apk to system/apps folder and fix permissions.

Flash it then fix permissions in cwm. Also try clearing dalvik cache.

what ROM are you on?
you can't flash an app, you need to move the apk to the system folder with root explorer.
when i said re-flash i meant re-flash the whole ROM.
google it, i'm sure you are not the first one.

Yes you can flash an app aslong as its in a flashable zip like the user mentioned in the reply you quoted.

Didn't know that. Cool

[Q] Upgrading to ICS including other tweaks

Hi,
I'm kinda new to flashing and upgrading my phone.
Therefore I got some questions:
Currently running on my Neo: AOSP 4.0.3 ICS BETA with kernel provided there
Baseband says: 56 as last two digits
I would like to upgrade my baseband to 62. (latest)?
As far as I understood I will have to flash 4.0.2.A.0.62 Baseband using flashtool.
Do I have to flash the kernel again after upgrading baseband or should I flash the 4.0.2.A.0.62 Kernel first and change it afterwards?
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Click to collapse
Will changing the baseband or kernel delete anything?
When would be the right time to apply the RAISE your NEO userdata space patch? Before or after baseband, kernel flash?
Sometimes they say that a reboot is required after flashing a new ROM before flashing an update.zip in CWM. Do I have to reboot at other times?
Is there a tool or a possibility I missed which can flash anything like baseband, kernel, ROM and updates to it in one step?
If I want to edit a ROM like directly changing bootanimation and ringtones.
How should the zip file be packed? No compression, etc?
Is it a good idea to include updates which I would have flashed in CWM directly into the ROMs zip file?

Kernel is not related to baseband. Simply flash baseband, no need to flash kernel after or before.

Flashing baseband won't delete anything, but flashing kernel might. I see that kernel in that thread have CWM inside, so if you flash stock kernel you will lose that.

Whenever you want. It's not related to kernel or baseband.

Yes, they say that so that ROM "settles down in it's place" then you can install fixes and stuff.
What other times?
Is there a tool or a possibility I missed which can flash anything like baseband, kernel, ROM and updates to it in one step?

There is flashtool, but only for stock rom's. Custom roms are installed as a .zip file via CWM recovery.
If I want to edit a ROM like directly changing bootanimation and ringtones.

You can do that with root explorer app(or any app which can access to system), create that bootanimation.zip on pc and upload it to sdcard, then move it to where it needs to be. For bootanimation.zip, yes, it's with no compression. How it's created, check other bootanimation.zip's over the net.
For other zip's which are flashed trough CWM, it's a bit more complicated to explain how to create them.
Is it a good idea to include updates which I would have flashed in CWM directly into the ROMs zip file?

Well depends. Most likely yes, but I would still ask creator/porter of each rom if that is advisable

Thank you very much.
But in this point there was a misunderstanding.
I just wanted to know how the update.zip or rom.zip has to be packed and if it's save to replace bootanimation.zip inside rom.zip. Are there any checksums for apk or other files inside an CWM update.zip I need to change?
Most of the ICS based ROMs use MT15i_Neo_ICS_Kernel_V1.img. Where does it come from and where is it's original thread?

its safe to change bootanimations.zip and any other apk or file in side the provided update.zip file
but if u extract it n do changes then u will lose the signature of the developer n wont b able to install the update.zip properly

Yes of course. If original zip file flashed and runs nice it will be my fault if it won't after my edits.
So no checksums in the update.zip directly. Thanks.
Signing of an altered apk file is required. Got it.
And I figured that there is no signing of the bootanimation possible.
Will post my question regarding the kernel in an extra thread.

Stock My Files

Hello guys. In some custom roms My Files option removed. If anyone want to get back this stock My Files then how I can get back, even with ported My File with cwm or in other way....?
I suppose you would be able to extract it yourself by installing a stock ROM and then copying the APK from /system/app (using some root capable file manager).
At least if nobody else has an easier solution for you.
Good luck!

I mounted as rw when I did an even tried this method: drag files to any folder on your internal memory. boot into recovery, mount data n system, go to file manager n look for your files, click on the files n move it to system/font. wipe cache, reboot

Get Rom toolbox and go to the interface section and click on fonts. Now click Local fonts. Now you want to find the font you want on your SD card and install them in a click. So Simple. Much Easy. Fast. Such amazement. Wow. (Doge meme hahaha)

Why don't you open the flashable zip of your rom? Then you can extract it yourself

Download a 2.3.6 rom flashable zip file. Open it and go to system/app extract the file and copy it to your phone. Install it and your done.
If you want to install a system app then you need to be rooted. So i thought you already had a flashable zip file.
I got my firmware downloaded only. It is md5.tar file. Is this what you are talking about or should I download something else?

I didn't install anything, just copied apk file from SD card into system/app directory. Odex file can't be replaced. No matter what error, just tell me if I have to run 7ZIP program, pack both files and then flash via CWM?

You flashed a zip file?
Is the apk file still in system/app? If not just place it there and wipe the caches. Without flashing a file.
BTW I don't know exactly how I make a good flashable zip file. Search and it shouldn't be hard to find and make.

I'm not allowed to delete system files as they are in use and any operation is restricted, even while rooted!
Whatever, I flashed my firmware from scratch and f**k it still won't work because I run Go Launcher Ex which is not compatible with stock widget.

Can't turn WiFi on after flashing.

Hey,
Today I used a ROM to flash my mobile (Samsung J5 2016 edition, model: J510FN) and I just used the perfect ROM, and it fits perfectly. But when I try to turn on WiFi it goes back swipe to off automatically when I swipe it to on.
I used this rom (version v1.1 because v2 and v3 were gone and bad): https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j5/development/rom-light-stock-rom-v1-t3467865
Someone knows what to do? I'm a beginner, so please explain it good. I have everything btw like Odin, TWRP, latest SuperSU, etc.
Please help.
Thanks
From your stock rom Copy the folder named Permissions from /system/etc and paste it at the same location in your new downloaded rom.
DONOT delete the existing folder , just replace the files.
Good Luck Cheers

You mean an img file , right?
If you have twrp or cwm backup of your stock rom , you can extract it from that file(ext4.system.tar.a) , if you dont have a twrp/cwm backup , you can try to flash stock rom from that img file and then copy necessary files into sdcard and then re flash your new rom and paste the existing files.
Good luck/

No, its an md5 file. Inside the md5 file (when I open it with winrar) it only shows hidedcache files etc and also boot.img
I need to have go to the patch (system/etc/permissions

Then you might need to flash your stock rom first and then copy the necessary files.
I have an Mediatek device , steps to troubleshoot are same , but I have a zip of my stock rom created to access stock files when ever i need them.
I would advise you to do the same for future troubleshooting..
Good Luck mate

Permission folder worked for me , but i would insist you to copy the entire /system partition as backup once you have flashed the stock rom just in case.
If permission folder doesnt work , then try replacing files starting with wlan from /system/lib/modules from stock to port
Do only when permissions folder doesnt work.
