I've just found a fix for annoying wifi drops in 587 firmware. Just flash (or move with the correct permissions all files from the archive, like i did) "Stock WiFi modules" from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1708532 (these are the modules from 431fw,where wifi worked flawless) and you get rid of any problems with wifi. (I've used it,and in two hours i didn'had any drop). Please report back if it works.
Edit: ater two of using i can say that partially it resolved the problem, but it still have one-two drops/day (compared to .587 modules where i was having 2-3 drops every half hour).
I'm in .431 only for this reason, the Wifi is super and very stable, never a drop out.
The 587 is a smoother firmware but wifi is unusable so I'm curious if your solution work really for everyone.
I don't know for example if everything about wifi is located only in lib-modules, or there is something else in kernel or in other place, so wait for more test
thanks for sharing
any news on this really working i hate my wifi
Take "pimp my rom" from google play and easy modify wi-fi scan timing. Max time will give you minimum drain and minimum wifi stability, min time the opposite. Find your best value.
It is not a matter of modules, according to me, but of parameters, which could be good for many people, but not for all.

AW: Fix WIFi drops issue in 587 fw
Pimp my rom did not work in my case. On the other side, on .587 stock modules did the trick. It has been few days connection is going on 24/7 without a single drop!
I flashed Alliance 1.5 for cwm, then after flashing zip got back to stock .587 kernel.
Please, if someone knows if I can use modules in some CM based ROMs let me know. Or if there are some others I should try. And one more thing: on CM7 with Nightelf kernel and stock Gingerbread connection also never drops, it occurs only on ICS/JB ROMs.
Thanks in advance.

So, in .587 did you use only stock wifi modules from .431 ?
Then, I can't understand why this thread is not much frequented, maybe people like wifi drops
I think the OP did a good work sharing his fix, but actually nobody like it.

The problem is that the peoples are too lazy to search on forum, and it's easier to ask "it works?" instead of trying.
It works perfect on UHD 2.0.3!!

Yes, I flashed Alliance only to flash zips and root phone then reverted to stock .587 kernel and installed cwm. Works great.
But, if there would be someone to make or port these wifi modules for AOSP ROMs that would be awesome.

Where do you read they are wi-fi modules from .431 fw? Beacuse suave v6 kernel is based on .587 rom. Just to know, there are many manifestation of placebo effect on battery calibration, too.
Those are wi-fi stock modules for ones who have flashed alliance kernel wi-fi modules in the past, without reinstalling stock rom. If in the past you flashed modules for alliance kernel, then you will not be able to enable wi-fi after flashing a stock kernel (or suave which is stock based). This is the matter of that flashable.zip
With latest roms (u.h.d and revolution hd) I do not suffer wifi drops anymore. Anyway you should try a custom kernel with custom wi-fi modules (like alliance or lupus) if you think it can be improved.
But if you want to trust placebo effect, it is simple:
-download that flashable.zp
-write down all the files inside and their path
-flash stock firmware .431
-find the files matching the ones on the flashable.zip and change them into the flashable.zip
Then you should have a flashable.zip with the real .431 stock wi-fi modules, so do what you want!

I've compared the modules with the ones from 587 and from 431, and they're exactly the same like in 431.
I don't like to use custom roms, because i've optimized the stock rom for my needs. About custom kernels, yes, many of them have custom WiFi modules and are better, but they're overheating the phone very fast.
Don't tell me that is placebo effect when before i was having WiFi drops every 5 minutes, and now i have 1-2 drops/day.

Do custom kernels make phone overheating? I don't think so, OC makes phone overheating.
So if you compared .431 and .587 wifi modules of those rom version, which are the difference between them to make .587 ones instable according to you?
Sent from my MT15i using xda app-developers app
I don't use OC, because i don't use the phone for games and i always keep the phone on "ondemand" governor, no matter what kernel i'm using.Instead i stream movies in browser, and with any kernel i use, after 10 minutes of streaming, the phone temperature is already 40-42 degrees, meanwhile, with stock 587 kernel, after 1 hour, it barely reaching 35 degrees. I don't know which is the difference between 431 and 587 modules, because i'm not a dev nor a phone geek, but after trying every single app in the Play Store to make WiFi stable, changing modules is the only way that really worked. PS: I'm using the nordic ftf, so maybe it's a problem only with this version of firmware,i didn't tried others.
Sent from my LT25i using xda premium
I'm trying to understand the matter.
So you are saying that:
-you don't know exactly if those modules from suave thread are from .431 stock rom or .587 stock rom.
-according to you those modules are different from the ones you call from .587 stock rom because you get fewer drops in a day and because your phone reach higher temperature during internet streaming.
Right?
If you stay next to your wi-fi access point you still get drops during the day?
The Wifi drops in .587 without doubts, I made some tests time ago with the same and very good router and with .587 you could observe the wifi icon go away suddendly every 10-15 minutes even if the phone was near the router.
A way to prove the instability of wifi in 587 is trying to download a gameloft game, you can't do so ! The download will interrupt every 50 Mb and you are forced to press "retry" anytime.
Then I did the same test with firmware .431 and I didn't experienced any drops ... same router, same apps installed, some mods, same phone
So, something let wifi to drop in .587 and this is not router or user releted for sure; I don't know if only the modules from 431 can do the trick, but if you want to try i will post later modules from my 431 nordic firmware.
R: Fix WIFi drops issue in 587 fw
Ok, the OP of suave kernel v6 tell me officially that those modules are from .431 stock fw rom. I wanted to be sure this was true and not based only on better experience.
So now you should make 2 trial to find best solution at all:
-.431 rom modules and .431 kernel
-.431 rom modules and .587 kernel
Then I think the rest of the rom should not make any difference
I will suggest madfysh to highlight this thread.

1. Wrong,i didn't said that i don't know if the modules are from 587 or from 431,i said that are exactly the same modules like in 431 firmware.
2. I didn't said that the modules have something to do with phone temperature,i don't know where did you read that.
No matter if the phone is 5 cm far from the router or if i'm in another room,i have the same drops, with 587.
R: Fix WIFi drops issue in 587 fw
The point was that there were no proof that they were .431 rom modules and you said that you did not know the difference between .431 and .587, but you knew only the different effect between them. This can not be a rational way to go, especially if you say something like custom kernels make somehow overheating on the phone. And this is what you can extract from your replies above. Probably this is why this thread has not be taken into account by many users.
For the next time you had better to state what you are sure and why (known sources proofs), then what you are saying and why. Just a suggestion if you want.
Anyway I reported this thread to GhostfreakNB, he said that when he has some time he would put this into main MOD and TWEAKS thread so it can be more visible.
Bye
PS.: if you can, edit first post. Point out first that wifi modules from .431 stock rom can solve wifi drops. Just after put the link and say that its OP has stated that they are exactly what they are (also if it is not said in its thread). It can be useful.

Hey Good day all, my WI-FI is not working, with the FeraLab v3. When tried to access it , its says error, not sure if anyone one else have have tried it but its not working for me. I really love the work that I'm seen in this ROM, one thing tho, the menu background is way to dark and not the best, if you could use the theme background that would be nice. thanks much
P.s I'm new and i have no idea were to start with build Roms Help.
Hi I'm using FeraLab v3 also, it's an awesome rom but I had a wi-fi problem too. I flashed the wi-fi module for the kernel I'm using, Doomkernel v6 and now it's works fine, even though the instructions say I didn't need to. You could try reinstalling the rom or flash the wi-fi module for the kernel your using. I've had some minor issues after flashing the rom for the first time and had them fixed after a reinstall.
As for the background, it is dark but I like it. As for changing the theme you could flash a new one, but it may alter things in the rom, not sure, can't help you there, I'm way too much of a noob still

what kernel do you have? most of the times is for the kernel unless the rom has a bug in it, try to find the kernel version and in all versions the developers post the wifi modules too, as a zip file, follow the instructions and flash it, in 5 minutes you will have your wifi back to life.
Flash relevant WiFi modules for the kernel u using.

have an xperia mini running cm10 fxp135. runs really well on stock kernel but unfortunately the governors on the stock fxp kernel are limited. ( no smartass etc)
Im actually specifically looking at the rage kernel 3.2 which i have installed and works perfectly apart from the wifi is "greyed out", so effectively no wifi.
Any ideas or fixes for the wifi would be greatly appreciated. For now though, i will be going back to the fxp kernel as there really is nothing wrong with it, just want a few more tweaks that are available in the rage one!
thanks!
There is a WiFi fix in the thread... Or do you search a specific for jellybean? (There are wifi-modules-signed-zip, for flashing via cwm I think, but Do a Backup before!)

hi,
thanks for the quick reply!
yes, ideally i am wanting a specific kernel for jellybean (other than the FXP kernel included in the rom package for cm10)
the FXP one is perfectly fine, but it would just be nice to have a few more govenors etc!
i know theres a guy who has compiled an extended jellybean kernel for the mini pro, but not for the mini unfortunately.
in terms of the rage kernel, thanks for pointing out the wifi modules! completely overlooked them! i know i have some random modules on my sd card, but cant remember where they are from!! ha!
will flash the kernel (which is really meant for CM9, but seems ok) and modules tomorrow! hopefully if all works well i wont need a specific jellybean kernel after all!
cheers for the help(clicked the thanks) and if you know of an extended xperia mini kernel then point it my way!
I know this report should rather be posted in the developer forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780326), but as I've just registered, I'm not allowed to post there, so I hope you all will excuse me.
I've been testing the latest CyanogenMod 10 version (FXP145) on my Xperia Active (ST17i), tried both the bundled and DDS kernel, but I've been encountering two bugs:
Gallery bug
Right after the ROM starts and I insert my PIN, I get a message: "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped". Everything then works as expected, no trouble with the gallery or anything else, just this (a bit annoing, but not deadly) message.
WiFi bug
I'm unable to connect to a WPA2-PSK protected network. An unsecured WiFi works well, but WPA2 gets into a loop, where it keeps trying to authenticate and aquite an IP. I tried to change my hostname, tried to change the kernel to DDS, nothing helped. It seems like the same bug that's troubling the stock ICS for Xperia Active, though how it got into the JB is a mystery. In all the custom ICS kernels I tested (with the fixed WLAN modules) it worked well, but the fix is not usable in the JB kernel.
In the DDS kernel thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956283) there seemed to be some talking about WiFi trouble since FXP144, but it puzzles me that no one else seemed to notice anyting (might be very isolated bug).
Just wanted to report my findings and see if I'm the only one having these trouble and if there's something to be done about it...
https://code.google.com/p/freexperia/issues/list
Thanks, gotta admit I know about this bug list, I was hoping to get some feedback on the matter before posting it as a bug (because here I know that I'm talking to people with similair phones, in the buglist, my phone and bug will be quite rare).
probably its just you, or everyone else haven't notice it yet. u should do clean install with cm default kernel and try to replicate the bug. if its still there then just do bug report with logcat included on the fxp's googlecode page. that should help fxp to fix the bug (if its a bug).
I have no problem with wpa2 psk I use it everyday with the kernel in the rom zip. May be u can give a try with mesa kernelv2.2 by an0nym0us Im currently using it with no wifi trouble. & if u want the gallery force close to be fixed u can go through it

Thanks for the tip for the first bug. As for the second one, I thought MESA kernel isn't compatible with CM10? I remember reading in an0nym0us's MESA thread, that CM10 isn't mature enough, so he's not using it and his kernel is not made to be used with it (maybe he'll correct me, if I'm wrong ).

So, I've been experimentating some more during the weekend and: I've tested the WiFI with the following: a clean installation of FXP145 (+its original kernel), FXP146 (and its original kernel) and finally with MESA v2.2 for JB + FXP146, tried to delete wlanfixed and reboot twice. The problem is always the same, WiFi generally works, but doesn't want to connect to my WPA2+AES protected router. There is no MAC filtering or anything like that enabled on the router. Just to be sure I'll try to find the ICS kernel + ROM that used to work and test it again, so I can see there is a working config.

Alright, after hours of flashing and booting, I need to correct my first statement and appologize for misleading all of you. After testing 4 ICS kernels with various ROMS (stock+stock ROM, Rage v3.2 + HaSa MIUI v2.11.2, Mesa v2.2 + RealICSLite r4, KernelPanic v1.25 + HyperbeamCream v4.0) I can confirm, that WiFi with WPA2+AES security works on none of them (with my Xperia Active). It only works on GB (tested with stock kernel + ROM and also Rage v3 + Hasa v5) .
Looks like I'm stuck with GB, because both ICS and JB Wifi drivers fail to work properly for me :-/.

What I generally did during the tests was this:
1) Enter CWM and do a full wipe (data, cache, system, dalvik cache)
2) Flash Kernel
3) Flash ROM
4) Test WiFi
5) if the Wifi does not work -> fiddle with the ROM
- delete wlanfixed and reboot twice
- flash some wifi fixes, reboot, test
Though I did follow the instructions written for each kernel and ROM, so sometimes I did the wipes after the kernel flash.
Hello guys! I'm having a strange issue with all ICS and JB roms (stock or custom, doesn't matter, same problem):
- I can browse, and while I'm browsing with the default browser, the wifi works really well.
Let me show and example:
If I open an app like TuneIn Radio, I can only hear the station while I'm opening pages in the browser. If I just stop browsing, the connections seems to be lost. The same with Google Play, as long I'm browsing, it works like a charm and the downloads complete. Otherwise, the downloads get stuck.
I've never seem this kind of problem before, and other devices and the same device with GB roms works well.

Don't forget to flash WiFi modules (ti-wlan_v3.zip) via CWM after flashing LuPus kernel. With MESA Hybrid v3.5 you don't have to do that because WiFi module is integrated in the kernel, but you have to flash the appropriate module according to ROM type (ICS->stock, CM9, CM10).

Hello,
I have a problem with my wifi. It doesnt work well in my own house (Thomson TG789vn router).. I am connected, but only every 10 seconds or something it really works..In all other places it works perfect only not in my own house. This started when I installed the latest version of the 2.6.32 nAa JB kernel for my xperia x8 and installed mini cm10 4.10. The strange thing is that it works on previous kernels...
I tried many things,
- reinstall cm10
- restarted router
- use different wifi channel (just random)
- edit wifi scan interval
- tried several google play apps
- downloaded and flashed a fix for wifi on jelly bean
Solutions?

Have you tried finding a replacement kernel, rebooting to recovery and flashing the kernel over the rom. I have seen alot of cases that it is just a bug in the rom, You have to understand that these are custom creations with flaws. try reverting to stock everything, checking to see if the problems still exist, if they are still there then it might point to your device itself.
