For some time I been thinking about getting a Nexus7, but thought if I got the 10 I would have a bigger screen as well as more features, but I also want to be able to pocket it and take it with me everywhere more easily, so will choosing the 10 for better specs or going 7 for portability be better?

For comparison about this, you can check out YouTube channel named "oode". He has been doing some comparisons about Google Nexus 7 and Google Nexus 10 in term of gaming, browsing experience, hardware, software and anything. It's really worth checking out though. His videos are HD quality. The owner of that channel is also polite to viewers, you can ask him anything and he will be more than pleased to answer your questions quickly.
I think Google Nexus 7 is a great choice if you intend to use this tablet on the go. But Google Nexus 10 is also tempting if you will use this device mostly in your house. All Android apps, whether it's well optimized or not, will run perfectly on Google Nexus 10.

If I didn't have my galaxy s3 I probably would have gone with the Nexus 7, but I LOVE my nexus 10. It's beautiful. Does everything I expected and more more more. It feels well made and I am very happy with it. The size is the same as an iPad and its easy to put in a bag, carry with you on a plane, etc. You may not think 3 inches is a big difference but its a huge amount of real estate from 7 to 10 inches.... so it wont go in your pocket... but will a 7" tab really go in you pocket?
The portability of the Nexus 7 is nice, but I don't really have too much of an issue carrying around my Nexus 10 either (laptop bags are nice).
Main thing that makes me like the 10 over the 7 is the rear-facing camera; never realized how nice it was to have one until I got the Nexus 7 (my previous tablet before that was a Galaxy Tab 7)

i've never had hands on experiences with nex 10 but have a nex 7 and can confirm that its easy to grip and super portable ! like others mentioned if you can sacrifice a bit on the portability side of things then go for nexus 10 hands down !
Is price an issue? For 250 A 32 GB 7 is hard to beat. My boy has the 7, I'm on the 10.
We both had HP touchpads prior. I knew I wanted the 10. For work and play I need the real estate.
He was weary of playing games on a smaller screen. A week later he is still telling me every day...I love my tablet.
Either is a winner... Cost and size should be your deciding factor...

I own the nexus 7 and I love it, I gave away my ipad 3 bc i was not using it after i got the n7. I was bored this afternoon so I went to staples to see and probably buy the N10.
Honestly I was disappointed, physically it doesn't look too nice , the screen is sharp but color saturation is bad, black are not black, N7 has much better blacks. Testing the performance, i opened chrome and went to the verge, it lags, and after 30 secs browsing, the tablet completely froze.
Honestly right now there is no better 10 inch tablet than ipad 4. All android 10inch flagships have problems.

That is also another thing that I heard, that the ten has bugs and isn't as compatible as the 7, well I would like the nice size for playing my HD games and doing some questionable browsing, the 7 seems more stable in its updates. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the 7 almost always in stock while the 10 is not?

Keep in mind that the Nexus 10 is still brand new, so I expect many of the bugs will be addressed in future updates or by our dev's themselves. As far as the N10 not being in stock, again, its brand new and released right before the holiday season so the demand was higher than the supply. However, I was able to walk right in my local Walmart the day after Christmas and pick up a N10 32gb. So, you can find them if you look around a bit.

Yes it will, I fit mine into my coat and pants pockets all the time, it works great.

Try the Note 10.1 I have them both. I agree the screen is not as great as I thought it would be with the extra pixels for the N10. The processor is still good, the apps and functionality can be eventually worked out, might be software related. The resolution is and size is new. iPad has had its issues too with connectivity--wifi, Bluetooth, overheating & screen bleeds. Note 10 however works great, I mainly use it for productivity. It is a computer and have trouble seeing it as an entertainment device that's why I got the N10 to separate work from play. No complaints about the Note 10 at all, I got more than my money's worth. No screen bleed, overheating, connectivity problems or lag. I only wish Samsung would put out firmware that will allow end users to hook a 1TB or more hard drive to it to catch the work flow. N10 can only get better with each software update.

I use the 10 for work as well as play, and the size is important to me in order to use it for work purposes. The 7 is fantastically convenient for media consumption, web browsing, games and social media, but would be cramped for content creation or sharing a PowerPoint deck with a client. They are both superb tablets. The 10 fits my particular needs, but the 7 is incredibly portable. In the end, choosing its personal, based on your particular needs and usage patterns.

Hmm, I might go with the 7 as I consume media like crazy and play random games, not going to be doing much powerpoint
If u gotta big screen phone go for 10 if not get 7. I love my N10 cuz on the go I have my note 2.

I retract my statement, I got the N10 anyway and I got a good one, it looks much better than the display, it looks as good as my N7.
To get away from the freezes on Chrome, I am using CM browser with ipad user agent, full screen and flash.
So far so good.

Not that many, for example facebook looks bad, but it is not a big deal because with this screen I am using the full web version.
Apps like the verge, business insider, redbox look bad but again this is OK because the webversion works exellent.

I finally decided to go buy an iPad 2 because of the price drop. I convinced myself that I wanted the app selection that the iPad has. But for some strange reason, the iPad is leaving me unfulfilled and I keep grabbing the prime. Once you go android its almost impossible to go back to iOS without feeling like you need more. Don't get me wrong, the apps are great on the iPad but...........its just not right.
This exactly is what I keep trying to tell my iPhone friends when they ask why I keep buying Android phones and devices. It isn't as if there is anything really wrong with the iPhone or iPad. They are honestly really great devices. However once you have played with an Android phone for a while, the lack of options in iDevices can be frustrating.
Thats how it is with apple As long as you just use apple stuff you feel like its the best thing in the world. I know various people (switzerland is apple land) that tell me in all honesty that iTunes is the best program for music and connecting mobile devices to a home PC.
I also felt that when i had my ipod touch and a cheap nokia brick phone back in the days that with my jailbroken ipod touch i could do everything i could imagine. Until i bought my DHD and put CWM recovery on it. I have next to no programing/coding/compiling knowledge but i was able to make my own themes and put toghether my own mods and .zips (UOT kitchen ftw) and edit roms with bootanimations etc in no time.

I believe you. I think the world hasnt realized yet how great android works for tablets especially if you add that dock. I really hope Android will get the primary dev platform for Tablet apps. Apple makes great products but its just sad that they put everything in their own special garden (app store) where only special people (apple users) have access. Figuratively speaking.
I have a dream where devs can make ARM/OpenGL apps. And those apps just work on any ARM device, no matter if android iOS or Windows on ARM.
iOS is boring. Same ol Same ol. Simple for the kids to use.
Android was meant to be on a tablet. Widgets, cool notifications. alot more
customization. More eye appeal.
Apple has some good hardware there. The real question is iOS really a tablet
solution? iOS works for the kiddies, old etc. Its simple and familar to everyone.
But, just doesn't cut it for me. Especially when you see Android and what you can do with it.
Turn on either machine, get past the lock screen to the home screen and which one makes you say "Oh yeahhhh!" compared to "Ick. I hear 8 bit nintendo sounds in my head". Its visceral which is better in terms of the pride of ownership.
But I give up.
I will need both. I just can't take notes (as I've whined about almost everywhere) on the Prime and I *need*/*want* a great multitracker/amp emulator/music creation option on a tablet.
So anyone have a great deal on a black WiFi 32MB iPad2? I promise to not let it molest my prime.

I'm over my Ipad now that I have the prime. I just let daughter n woman use it now. I have no interest or desire to use it anymore. 99% of the apps I have on Ipad I have on Android now. I only miss playing infinity blade2 and Broken Sword series. I also had tons of great photo editing software on Ipad. Android needs this badly. Photo editing sux on Android aside from adobe apps. But I had Ipad photo apps that blow away the adobe ones as far as editing features n such goes.
All in all, Ipad did me well for 2yrs. Time to move on to bigger n better things. The prime. Plus I find I don't play the games as much anymore on my prime compared to my Ipad. Although I have majority of the dame games. Just seems like Prime/Android is a more grown up experience.

The same thing happen to me when the first transformer came out,I bought the transformer and the return it for the iPad,jailbreak it play with for a week and felt that the iPad is not mad for me..

I bought a prime, and i keep grabbing my...er...nevermind.
My new ipad vs my tf201
The local store gave me $200 to exchange my ipad 1 so I took the plunge and picked up the new ipad. I have a family of 5 so we keep a couple of tablets...now a couple of nice ones.
My observations:
ipad:
-screen is great...colour saturation is very good as is black level.
-video looks spectacular. Text is e-ink sharp.
-no backlight bleed.
-speed? Well some things are faster than the ipad 1 of course...but most apps I use had no speed bottleneck on the ipad 1.
Dungeon defenders runs like butter compared to ipad 1...but the resolution is still scaled from 1024x768...so you still have the aliasing, etc....looks just like the ipad 2 until they update these apps for retina.
Switching back to the prime though and I find very little to choose...the 1280x800 screen is still excellent for a screen this size.
TF201:
-I give the ipad just a slight edge...not a deal breaker though. A 1080p TF701 will be every bit the equal of the ipad 3 screen wise.
-I have to say that after a few months I really prefer the android customizations and widgets on the home screen.
-The ipad 3 feels quite a bit heavier...the TF201 really sets the bar for being thin and light...and this is not to be understated.
-app support of course is better with ipad...my family loves playing with garage band for example....and this kind of support is (as everyone knows) the only real thing holding back android at the moment
-flash support still matters for me in my daily usage of these devices
So bottom line...which one would I prefer in my bag while travelling? For browsing, email, docs, and most of my regular usage...its the tf201 for now. The customizations in android win it for me. For my kids and my wife? The ipad with the app support wins the day.

good comparison. thanks. have you tried to run any apps you have on both devices. like tegra3 version of Shadowgun vs. Ipad shadowgun? I already know which the better version but just want to see if you notice any graphical improvements on Ipad. so most apps so far have been upscaled? do they look like blown up iPhone apps? any chance you can post a screenshot of the same wallpaper on both devices? to compare quality. or take a pic of both.

Good review. I also found the color saturation to be amazing. It really has that Sammy look and feel. The maximum level of brightness was higher than I expected. I really can't wait to try out Namco's Sky Gamblers Air Supremacy to see this hardware really in action. Infinity Blade 2 got a resolution update for the new iPad's screen. For apps there's no comparison between the new iPad and Prime.
The ONLY thing that stands out on the Prime for me is the awesome Live My Wallpaper...I love it.. and the netbook setup. I'd have to say that outside of games/video, I prefer the feel of the Prime.
I have been on the fence about choosing between the two as well. I have 2 small children that really enjoy playing with my OG 7 inch galaxy tab. However, they were blown away by a friend's ipad. I will probably get one of the refurb models of the ipad 2 from the apple store so I can still get my transformer prime.

Of course for me there are many other +'s for the prime because i'll use it for University and i love to play older games with that gamepad on emulators
So a friend of mine wants to buy an ipad soon (he's one of those apple guys) if money is an issue (they'll have a kid soon) would you say the new ipad is worth the extra money compared to the ipad 2?
I like the Prime more than my new iPad just because iOS hasn't changed at all so it gets pretty boring. The screen is really stunning but in reality, I really think of it as just an over sized iPod like many others. Not that I'm saying it's not a great device but Apple really needs something new on the software side of things.

I don't think it's worth an extra $200 the only noticeable difference you will see it the screen and the 2 is also lighter and thinner.
Nice unbiased comparison. I really think the infinity tab will be the one to beat this year (although I'm sure apple fans will claim supremacy)

Good review. Yes, I went down to local BB and did about the same for the kids. The new screen on the New iPad is really sharp. I was surprised just how sharp web pages are. Pretty amazing. Usually when you zoom in on text with iPad 2 it gets blurred. This thing didn't blur at all.
I didn't notice any lightbleed from mine either. HOWEVER... If you look at an 170 degree angle under the black bezel of the new iPad. And I mean way under there. It was not totally sealed. Some slight light was coming thru. Oh well. I didn't see any lightbleed coming onto the screen. That is what counts.
Kids are happy. I am happy. Prime still is my beast. HD youtube. Diceplayer 1080p video and etc still looks a hell of alot better on the prime. And its faster. Plus I would never use iOS over Android. iOS blows so much.

When is the infinity tab scheduled to be released?
So Ive been playing with the nexus 10 since last friday. The device is nice, I like it. First, My device has light bleed. And my 1st replacement is worse than the original. I will see if my 2nd replacement is any better. In the meantime, I consider requesting a refund. I never thought of returning this before. However, the more I use it, I realized pure android is not what I expected. I have a note 10.1 so I compare this with the nexus.
First, I always thought touchwiz sucked. well, indeed it sucks (lags), but it has some cool features that pure android don't. FOr ex, the quick settings in touchwiz is more convenient with more options. like on touchwiz, when you touch "wifi", it will turn off and on immediately. On nexus 10, it will take you to the wifi settings. also I hate the space waste of the status bar.okay well, this is just a minor thing.
2nd, video player. The note plays just everything I throw at it. And the nexus don't. and you have to do a lot of modification to get it work. BS player can play them fine, but it is not fully supported yet so it crashes. and video quality on BSplayer is worse than other players like MX (but MX doesn't have sound playing mkv :/)
3rd, Apps. I know it's just too soon to complain but apps are not supported on the nexus 10 yet. Icons are blurry. apps lag on the nexus 10 because of too many pixels. I hope this will be fixed soon but considering there are many tablets out there that does not have 300 pixels per inch like the nexus. Not sure if ALL developers will adjust their apps to get it supported on the nexus any soon. I've got frustrated with the nexus so I found myself on my Note more.
4th, battery. well batter is not bad, but not good either. It's acceptable and I wish it could be better. ALso, slow charge (this might be fixed in near future thanks to the pogo but no one knows if it's gonna be released or not). average battery + slow charge. seems like a perfect combination...
I will make final decision on friday depending on the condition of my 2nd replacement. if it has worse light bleed then Im done with this. Too tired to send it back. I still want to keep it cause it's a nice thing to have. (oh and Im not interested in the ipad, that's why I didn't compare this with the ipad). SO yeah... anyone feels free to have opinion. I kinda need someone to convince me to keep it.

Screen is, well, i though this screen would be on pair with cellphones, but it isn't, brightness, contrast, are not as good as were supposed. And light bleed, the thing many people say is in every single lcd display. Well, if a defective product is usual for you... despite 40% of the LCDs have it, ok, but it doesn't mean its usual.
The only thing that 'wowed' me was the sound, pretty amazing.
Btw i also love touchwiz in my galaxy S3, 0 lags there.

Only thing that I'm not too "happy" about is the performance of some games on the Nexus 10. I was expecting GTA III to be easily playable on highest settings, but it runs at pretty low FPS, with the "Screen Resolution" setting being the biggest hit it seems, being tied to the extreme resolution of the Nexus 10. I was also very surprised with the performance of "Beats" (music game with DDR and osu! gamemodes). Something that looks "that" simple gives about 30-40 FPS somehow...
Aside from those 2 games though, everything else seems to run fine, performance wise. Kinda just want to get a controller and keyboard/stand for the N10, and I think it'll be perfect
I'll be keeping my Nexus 10 though Mainly because I want to try to get into Android Development, and so far the N10 seems to have the best specs of any Android tablet (currently).

Screen is, well, i though this screen would be on pair with cellphones, but it isn't, brightness, contrast, are not as good as were supposed. And light bleed, the thing many people say is in every single lcd display. Well, if a defective product is usual for you... despite 40% of the LCDs have it, ok, but it doesn't mean its usual.
The only thing that 'wowed' me was the sound, pretty amazing.

yeah the nexus 10 is the best android tablet you should buy at the moment, hands down. But my note doesn't have light bleed at all. and touchwiz only lags on the Note tablet. I have the S3 too and it doesn't lag.

I hope this will be fixed soon but considering there are many tablets out there that does not have 300 pixels per inch like the nexus. Not sure if ALL developers will adjust their apps to get it supported on the nexus.
4th, battery. well batter is not bad, but not good either. It's acceptable and I wish it could be better. ALso, slow charge (this might be fixed in near future thanks to the pogo but no one knows if it's gonna be released or not).
I will make the final decision on friday depending on the condition of my 2nd replacement. if it has worse light bleed then Im done with this. Too tired to send it back. I still want to keep it cause it's a nice thing to have. (oh and Im not interested in the ipad, that's why I didn't compare this with the ipad). SO yeah... anyone feels free to have opinion. I kinda need someone to convince me to keep it.

Cheer up the Nexus is awesome. Mine has no bleed or any issues. Your first Nexus left a bad taste in your mouth. Get past it and you'll be good.
2. QQ Player for videos.
3. Apps will come with time.
4. Charge isn't great but any micro USB can charge it and that's a big plus.

Keeping mine as long as it lives.. totally love it.. havn't noticed any light bleed at all.. but then again im not looking for it tried playing asphalt 7 and nfs.. and both played fine.. but those types of games blow goats on a tablet.. so 100% happy

I gotta say I'm pretty happy with this nexus tablet. I've never had a tablet before and besides spending limited time on my wife's iPad I never had a notion to get a tablet. I don't hamve the light bleed and my tablet shipped and arrived exactly when it was supposed to. So not negative to say other than the battery. I'm with the other guy. 5.5 hours is about all I can get. I can't wait for a case for this thing.

Thats what i meant with the lightbleed issue, not every single tablet leaks, here there are some users that, since they have so MUCH hope for this tablet, say that lightbleed is usual in every single tablet, and thats not truth.
And i repeat, i'm gonna keep this, but Google haven't done a good job with this. Problems, meh screen, poor performance (specially with chrome), no accesories, their shop was and is a mess.... And i say this after thinking that nexus 10 should be the device that makes android tablets take off. If i compare nexus 10 with other android tablets, it obviously is great, but not such a flagship (or ipad killer, as many people likes to say) as was spected.
Also coming from a Note 10.1. Overall, I like the Note 10.1 better. What the Note 10.1 lacks in resolution makes up with more vibrant display, better blacks, no backlight bleed, clearer sound, etc. Nexus 10 battery is not a concern since I was planning to use it as a desktop/laptop alternative but now I find out that HDMI output is laggy. Having reservations and thinking maybe I should hold off for Samsung's new tablet or updated Note 10.1 or just getting the Note II. They mistakenly shipped me a 16GB instead of 32GB so if the replacement unit that's coming Friday still has issues I'm probably going to ask for a refund.

Ativ Tab 10.1 is nice hardware but terrible UI with Windows 8 and weak app selection. Surface Pro is too pricey just for touch input. I can always upgrade to Windows 8 for $15 on my laptop but haven't bothered with the hassle since it doesn't really offer much.
Interesting thread...definitely makes me appreciate my N7 even more.

IF I wasn't impressed with the N10, I would absolutely steer clear of Asus' Transformer line of tablets IMO. I bought the Prime (TF201) when it first came out & the Infinity Pad (TF700) after returning the latter. They both had the typical I/O sloppiness and general lag that proves the "it has 4 cores" argument is a poor one lol.
Bottom line - I've spent most of the day with the N10 and have been thoroughly impressed. If any issues do arise...its a Nexus so unlocking the boot loader to improve performance won't void my warranty...

I'm not totally enthralled by either. First one had dust laminated in the display and some backlight bleed. My new one has bleed in both the bottom corners, but it is slightly worse. Even at 0% brightness in a completely dark room I can still make it out, I mean it doesn't stand out, but I can still see the faintest outline. Idk if I will send it back. I really don't want to get one that has worse bleed. I may just put up with this minor inconvenience until next year when the n10 2 comes out.
A lot of the issues mentioned will be fixed with software or firmware updates. Remember this is the early adopter problem.
Also dev roms will crush bugs or improve battery, add features, etc.
I love my N10.

Yes there is some wasted screen sapcd with the new UI but all will be fixed with custom roms.
And mist of the apps I was using on my iPad are available on market and look good for me.
All in all, within a couple of weeks this thing will be a monster.
I love this tablet. Zero backlight bleeding I can see during normal use, no dead or stuck pixels, amazing build quality, BEAUTIFUL display (I noticed how much better it was than my iPad 3s the instant money turned it on) . and great battery life. Certainly the battery doesn't last as long as the iPads (it has a smaller battery) but I got 9hours of screen on time today and 14 hours total surfing, playing the odd game or two, checking emails etc. The odd freezing issue will be fixed through an update I'm confident. Most of these issues are resulting from the fact that we are early adopters to a brand new device.
Return it if you're not happy with it. What's the point in announcing it to the rest of the community?

I keep seeing these great deals on the Nexus 10. Although it's an old tablet it is well received and still seems to be among the best available. After deciding to wait for the new version, it keeps getting pushed back and who knows when it will actually be available? I think I may just go with the original N10 as my Asus TF300 is absolutely driving me nuts. It's nearly unusable at times... if it's doing any kind of app update or sync, forget it, it's unusable. I am rooted and on a custom ROM and still have issues. I was fed up and need a replacement now. Should I stick with the N10 or maybe look into some other tablets... Budget is around $300...
Yeah its still a good tablet if you can get it for a decent price. I love mine, although it does have its flaws for sure. But if my tablet suddenly turned into a stack of $300 bills I am not sure I would buy it again. I would probably look at maybe a Sony Tablet Z.
The reason i say this is that the N10 is not a perfect device. For a start the battery is not the best. On 4.3 I would eek out 8 hours with very conservative use and low brightness. On 4.4 that has dropped to 6-7 hours on a very good day. The battery issue is mainly due to the chipsets used, which is a dual core A15 and Mali T604 graphics. Both of these are pretty power hungry compared to newer chipsets. Newer CPU's have lower powered cores which handle mundane tasks and conserve power. Also, the graphics use up 1GB of the system memory, so really you only get 1GB for system RAM and not 2GB like most tablets. Kitkat 4.4. had to be gimped on the N10 mainly due to the N10 not have enough grunt to run certain aspects of 4.4 like the translucent bars and ART without stutter. Another thing is its not a tablet to be held in portrait mode due to the design. It should be held in landscape mode at all times. It just feels way better held like that.
Don't get me wrong I love my N10, especially the design. Its definitely the best tablet in terms of ergonomics I have used. The screen is still fantastic and the speakers being on the front are really great and go to a decent level. Performance is also really good being vanilla android and all with no bloatware.
So I do love my N10 but its not perfect, but I can live with its faults. But if I was to buy another tablet tomorrow I would definitely look around at the competition.

Almost Everything Warren_Orange has said is true to certain degree. The screen is still fantastic compared to newer tablets even though it may not be #1 anymore in terms of quality. Yes, ram on the nexus 10 is a little scarce due to the high screen resolution but its not a deal breaker by any means. KitKat has vastly improved ram management on this device and it is a night and day difference. Battery life could certainly be better and don't even get me started on the insanely long charging times lol.
A few things I would kindly disagree with is that "the processor in the N10 doesn't have enough power for 4.4." I think the features missing from 4.4 on the N10 has more to due with fact that its using an exynos processor and not snapdragon or some other mainstream chip. Exynos chips tend to be more locked down with their drivers and less compatible than other popular chipsets. I haven't come across one app or game that my n10 couldn't run or struggled with. If anything it seems like Google hasn't totally optimized this tablet to its fullest potential on the software end. Also I think the N10 is fine held in portrait mode. It just feels little odd at first if you're not used to a 16:9 tablet.
Like Warren_Orange said, the N10 isn't prefect but its still a great tablet. One thing I would recommend if you decide to purchase it (and are comfortable with) is root it, install a ROM like SlimKat Official build 3 and over clock the CPU and GPU (overclocking the gpu will be the most beneficial to help cope with the screen resolution while overclocking the cpu is totally optional as it already has two powerful A15 cores) while at the same time undevolting. This helps tremendously with the overall performance of the device and other gripes associated with it.

All in all, I've been enjoying mine since last May. Just buy an N7 for now to hold you over to the next 10 incher is released. Purchased one for my wife and she loves it.

I would definitely buy again, no questions asked.
I don't know what everyone else's problems with the battery life are, I get 1.5-2 days worth of use with mine including leaving it on all night unplugged. Even if the battery life is a "problem" for some, just plug it in each night anyhow and you're good to go.
The screen is phenominal on this thing, the front facing speakers are great as well. There's also plenty of developer activity, and a somewhat minimal amount of people having issues with their devices. The two biggest weak points that people seem to have in terms of having to return it are screen light leak, and the battery occasionally going from ~20% suddenly to 0%. Both of which, are fixed easily by Samsung via a return.
Outside that, I still really like mine, so I say buy one. Especially if you're going to be paying $200 less than what I paid for mine ($499?)
No complaints on battery life from me. The high-res display is what sells this thing, and as an added bonus it has front-facing speakers and is super lightweight. My only complaint is the finicky Wifi; depending where I am in the house, the Wifi becomes dog slow despite a strong signal.
If you can find a good deal on Nexus 10, then yes it's a worthy purchase.

Get a case with the magnet deal allowing it to sleep. Then set wireless to shut off when in sleep mode. This will help allot with battery life. I always charge mine when powered down (mostly overnight) that helps with charging speed some.
I have had the N10 awhile now, running ThunderKat 4.4.2 ROM and Kernel. No complaints here.

Root it add the recovery of your choice then install Viper4Android, Onandroid, Xposed framework and at least it's Gravity box module. All of which can be found by searching XDA.

With PoGo charger it only takes 2 hours, they are really cheap too. Also charges while you use it as well.
I love this tablet. I'm starting to think some people have N10s that were shipped with lemon batteries or something, if I use it occasionally I can go 3-4 days before charging with about 6 hours screen on time. Today (NCAA tournament baby) I abused the tablet all day and still got over 18 hours with 7 hours of screen on time, and it's sitting here hovering around 15%. Virtually all of those 7 hours were with the brightness at about 50% streaming video. Having said that, I got mine in November 2012 and am pretty anal about charging habits. This IS my first tablet, so maybe I'm not expecting as much out of my battery as other users?
I don't think I'll be purchasing the 2014 Nexus 10 (if it ever arrives), the current gen is every thing I need from a tablet and more. I suppose there are now newer tablets with better specs, but would it affect the utility it provides me? I think not.
If you are a spec whore, don't get this tablet. If you are looking for a top notch tablet with decent development that is currently selling for a relatively cheap price tag, GET IT!

Go for it. Even though i have an android phone or a pc when i get to home my nexus 10 is the only device i use, except for texts and alarm If you know what you can expect from a tab and you consider buying a nexus 10 i can tell you wont regret.

I've had N10 for 4 months, it goes alongside my N4 of 14 months and N7 of 20 months.
I use my N7 on long haul flights for space and battery reasons, N10 in hotels and home, N7 when really moving around a lot like on a bike and when going between meetings as it fits in a trouser pocket. My N4's with me all the time.
The N10's battery life really sucks, battery charging is slow, BUT I just use it in proportion to my other devices and I got the Pogo cable, when its not moving around its connected to the Pogo cable, that keeps on top of demand and I've NEVER had flat battery turn off problems. When I'm in situations with high mobility and not expecting much plug-in time I'm using my N7 which lasts longer and charges faster. N10 does say a trans-continent 5 hour flight fine but say California to Europe it can't but a N7 can with possibly an external USB slim battery top-up.
The N10 and N7 bluetooth tethering seamless flawless reliable to the N4 so I got phone and tablet online all the time when on the go.
The N10 absolutely best features are it's display 1st, outstanding, and then its speakers being stereo and forward facing so you can actually sit on your laptop or on desk, etc and sit and watch it would headphones and its just a pleasure.
My N10 crashes in certain situations, so I simply avoid those situations. Its camera doesn't work reliably for say Skype... so I use my N7 or N4 for that.
Just so long as you don't have too high an expectations, don't expect perfection, and use it in contexts which fits its limitations, then for the <$300 figure use it and enjoy. If you limit its use to contexts it should last enough years and betya you can replace its battery with a guide in a couple of years to re-life it if you wanted.
You can spend as much $ buying 1 device which aims to be better but 2 or 3 devices are better, particular as if say you're watching Hulu on you N10 and when annoying commercials (who needs a car anyway) come on just pick up your N7 and check your email, so "multi-window" by other means.
Notice how my N7 is coming to 2 years and still used? Because the big-screen graphics stuff is on the N10 and the battery-hog situations avoid the N10 and go to N7. I think that's the way to go. The idea of one perfect tablet never happens, plus it sucks if it breaks and its all you got.
I got one of these dual USB chargers and the Pogo cable makes all the difference.

I had to switch to another email client app. I will look into the pogo plug but I'm not sure if I really need it.
I'm still playing with it but the performance so far is as expected and far exceeds the TF300 it is replacing.

So, do you recommend buying the N9, a one year old device ? I currently use an iPad 4 and it's quite big and heavy and I've been looking for a replacement. Tried the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 but didn't like it so I returned it. My iPad is too slow for me especially with iOS 9 and it still has a 32-bit processor. So I seriously want to upgrade.
If I buy a N9, I would be rooting/ flashing kernels, recoveries, mods, ROMS, etc.
So what do you guys recommend ? Which tablet should I buy ?
I love the size, the front facing speakers and the 4:3 aspect ratio. However, if you can't deal with major lag which happens randomly and often then don't buy it.

I got a used 32Gb from Amazon for 250 with minimal lightbleed with a dec.2014 build date. Honestly, I have forgotten my other OCD complaints because they, like the light-bleed, are acceptable. Oh right, the flimsy back, it is just a half a millimeter of between the back cover and the internals. It is not perfect, but I only notice it when I am trying to find it.
My Nexus performs great, but I am a minimalist. Some people simultaneously run Facebook, YouTube, chat, music, bluetooth, Chrome, etc and get poor results, which could be the user expecting too much, or the device being a POS, I dunno. It is faster than my Nexus 7 2012, lol...
I just went through 6 of my active Chrome tabs and had no reloads. The 7th reloaded, but that tab was inactive for a few hours, so I think that is fine. I even have the zram (compressed swap) disabled, giving me less available memory.
If you want to hate the Nexus, you can. If you want to love it, you can.
I would recommend it. That's a great price! If you find you don't love it, you could always sell it and buy the iPad. I bought mine about 2 months ago, 2015 model, no lightbleed. I am a heavy user so I will have multiple apps running, I don't usually notice it slowing until the battery gets low, say 25% or so.
Since you already asked about root and ROMs, I wouldn't say it's necessary, but it does help with performance and battery life significantly.
If you are on a strict budget then yea sure its good for 200 or 250 but if you have a little more money I would either wait or get the tab s2 , I bought both on black Friday and I love nexus devices , have had every nexus made since the Samsung Galaxy Nexus s. I assumed I would be keeping the nexus 9 and returning the samsung cause I don't like the power button or touchwiz on Samsung devices but after using both the lag on the nexus nine is very very noticeable, particularly when switching between apps. It's build quality is poop in comparison.

HTC has done a couple of 40% discount specials. You might try to be a little patient. I got a brand new 16gb for US$239.40 for black friday directly from HTC's website. According to the serial number, mine is from november 2015 and i don't have any light bleed at all. I did found that it was charging way too slow, but anyway i flashed the same day pure nexus with fire-ice kernel and it started to charge really fast with an anker charger (just over 3 hours)... everything is going really smooth with minimal lag in a couple of apps, just like my nexus 5. Pretty happy with it so far.
The only things i'm not happy with is the screen ratio, and the buttons. I don't know why my ipad 2 youtube's app filled the entire screen but this one keeps the black bars, and both have the same ratio. With the buttons i don't have any problems since I configured double tap to sleep and to wake, I just use the volume buttons and they work just fine, but i still don't like them lol.
You have already seemed to purchase it. I would recommend it in general only if you can get a good deal on it. I got a lightly used one for 210 dollars, black 32gig wifi with the smart cover (I replaced it with a proper case) and a microsoft portable bluetooth keyboard that normally retails for 70 bucks. It was such an insane deal, I couldn't ignore it.
The IN APP performance is great. On chrome, websites load quickly. The issue comes from how the tablet handles ram. If you have multiple tabs open, you can expect those earlier tabs to refresh when you go back to them. The same kind of thing happens to multi-tasking apps. Try to go back to an app you were using 3 or 4 applications ago, and it will reload entirely as if it was never even opened. This in mind, you have to keep track of what you have open in the background. I don't think I've ever had anything forse closed or forcefully cleared from memory yet (like a music app that gets shut down because too much ram is being used), but I can imagine this being the case if you've got too many concurrent applications all fighting for memory.
tl:dr I don't have any kind of bad performance while in an app, but I do note occasional lag and skips when jumping from app to app, or jumping from app to home screen (and vice versa). The Nexus 6p really kind of spoils your expectations for all android devices, I guess.

I have been eyeing on this tablet for a week. So far the reviews I read, has some problems with light bleed, heat issues and unknown etc etc.
This have prevented me buying it, but I do hear rumors going around the internet about new Nexus 7 will be made by Google/huawei later in coming months.
Should I hold off nexus 9 and see what Google/Huawei will have a something new toy to offer?
i got 2 9's, one for me and one for my wife. mine has the pure nexus rom and my wife is stock. we both enjoy our tablets and haven't had the first problem.
"light bleed" is a characteristic of backlight LCD displays. They ALL do it. LCD works by having a light on behind it, and selectively blocking light from getting through, but its not absolutely perfect, so a little bit of light gets through anyway.
AMOLED displays use a separate light for each color of each pixel, so when a pixel is off, there is absolutely no light. BUT, AMOLED suffers from "makes your eyes bleed".
Just characteristics of the different types of displays.
As for the CPU... yeah, its a bit of a toaster. Its not a "problem" really, it can just run hot.
Don't buy it expecting a premium device, the screen isn't up to AMOLED standard and the build quality isn't up there with flagships but it is a solid device. I don't see much point in a 7" tablet if you have Nexus 6 or 6P but a Nexus 9 makes good sense. It's a good size, particularly with split screen coming on N. If you can find one on sale go for it.

I took a pluge.
I recently purchased this from Amazon on deal and I received flawless tablet no light bleeds, but issues is heating is still present in 2016!. I really love this tablet. I have it rooted twrp and have pure Android ROM on it and I leave it charge for night. Next day this Nexus tablet won't charge, thinking it the ROM issues and I had it to twrp back to stock and it charges fine.
Anyone know what the cause not charging, ROM issues?

I did have an issue with my first Nexus 9. It started crashing and ended up being a hardware issue. I had it replaced however, and my new one has been working great. I'm completely stock. When Marshmallow came out I wiped and flashed the factory image. I like to do that for any major update. I usually clear the cache partition after OTA's. The light bleed is really subjective. I don't see it on mine during anything I could consider regular use. But if I reboot in a dark room, during startup the screen is way brighter than normal. I can see some edge bleeding at that point until the screen dims down. But I typically don't utilize my tablet for watching reboots in the dark, so I don't obsess over it.
Lastly, the heat... Oh the heat. What can I say, my Nexus 5 gets hot when I'm running a game for a while or doing a factory reset and updating apps all over again. Prior to the Nexus 5, I had an HTC One X (snapdragon not Tegra), and it got hot sometimes when running games or anything intense. My first gen Nexus 7 may have gotten hot, but it was always in a case so I honestly didn't notice (or care). Why I should be freaking out all of sudden when my Nexus 9 gets hot around in the area that houses the processor is beyond me. It's a powerful chip with two massive cores and a large GPU. The only time I notice the heat from the chip is when I'm running a game, sometimes during factory reset/update, and chrome. This thing doesn't break a sweat doing anything else. If you are watching downloaded MP4's (don't judge) on something like MX Player, this thing will run for 10 hours nonstop. Chrome is the only real oddball. This is the first device I've used that uses a lot of processing power to run chrome, and it can depend on the web pages. I keep "prefetch page resourses" turned off, and I use the data saving feature as it compresses the data on Google's servers before it's downloaded to your device. I don't know if it makes a hell of a lot of difference, but it makes me feel better!
Other than that, I have to say that I love the display, and for me, whatever tablet comes after this one needs to live up to the sound quality from those front facing speakers.

Apparently it only appears not to charge, if you reboot the battery level with refresh to the actual level.
If you're on Pure Nexus ROM this is common, flashing Fire Ice kernel solves the problem.

The screen is a HELL of a lot BETTER than amoled CRAP.
I'm speaking from experience. Two amoled devices, one of which is a Nexus 6. They're terrible.

The build quality is just as good as anything else out there. Glass face, aluminum trim. Not much to go wrong there.

If putting it back to stock fixed it, then you have your answer.
Not all hacked up crap you download from random places on the internet is actually functional.
Back to the original question for others......
Yes it is worth buying but only for the right price and if you're prepared to root. A few users seem OK with stock but most are not happy performance wise.
If you could make do with only a 7" screen, I'd save the money and get the Nexus 7 2013 personally. Much better performance for way less money. :angel:
after a year using it as my everyday device it certainly changed the way i used my phone.
on my phone i use only nessesary apps like navigation, messenger and similar, no more games , only little bit of news,
everything else is now on my nexus, from music , games, news, video.. and iam almost really happy with it.
i have some issue with battery lifetime, no wonder given how much i use it
the size is perfect for reding and surving, given for video a 16:9 would be better but overall i like this more.
performance wise iam ok with it since i dont do some real intesive stuff,
so bottom line as a recreational device, to read your newspaper and websites, plays a little, listen to music and stuff is absolutly worth it.
given you get updates for an insane long time its absoltuly worth the deal. its not the absolute flagship then agian it doenst need to be to be good and fun.
btw it has apt-x even you wont find much about it in the specs, it has it and it works. huge difference for watching videos and wirless bluetooths
and i take this everytime over better built samsungs who are doomed to no updates after 2 years
