Ever since I got my Amaze, I've been having strange audio playback problems. I'll outline them below.
1) Every few tracks, Pandora will skip a song and advance to the next one with no user input. Even happens on ads.
2) Google Play Music will report "Music playback error" every 4-5 tracks and stop playing. Happens whether streaming or played locally.
3) Every 2-3 music videos, audio in MX Player will cut out for a second or so. When seeking to a particular time in a video, audio will get out of sync or become horribly garbled.
No apparent problems with phone calls, but I don't call many people. I've tried the stock ROM, SpeedROM 7.8/8.0 and the 1/4 build of CM10. The problem remains. Anyone have any ideas? At this point I'm seriously considering bringing my HD2 out of retirement, even though it's held together with duct tape and spit. It doesn't skip, and sounds even better than the Amaze.
ive had issues with the recent MX player "updates".. but overall have you tried fixing permissions and clearing cache to see if it might fix your problem.. or uninstalling the apps or clearning the data.. because it sounds like something somewhere is corrupted.. (maybe...) i'm not too sure as to i've never encountered these problems before.. but it never hurts to try.. (and when you flash rom's do you do a *(full)* wipe before you flash them)? and also do you restore these apps with data using any backup apps like titanium etc? because that might be another cause for the issue.. as to some data from some rom's don't transfer well to new ones.. which is why they give the warning that restoring data might be harmful and cause apps to malfunction

Each time I've installed a new ROM, I've wiped dalvik, cache, data and system. Not sure what else is safe to wipe - I don't think wiping boot is such a great idea. I never restore data to a clean install, mostly because all my data is in the cloud or on my SD card. At this point I'm theorizing that the hardware audio decoder in my phone is squirrelly, though I'm not 100% positive about that.
try flashing this then flashing your rom and see if it helps.. you can fix permissions after you successfully back up your rom, just remember to make sure to do a backup always before flashing a rom

No joy. Ran the super wipe script, then it took me about 4 attempts to load SpeedROM 8.0. Finally got it reloaded, and the skipping is still there. Tried fixing permissions, too. Any other suggestions? I wonder if there's any way to cook a software decoder into the ROM...
EDIT: The skipping is still present in Pandora, but MX Player does seem to be doing better. It could've just been the CM10 ROM. Also getting lots of DSP Manager crashes in SuperROM.
ive never really used dsp.. and i just noticed too that sometimes my pandora randomly skips songs.. or maybe the volume rockers are controls when the screen is off.. not sure

I have a very weird issue with my Droid Eris. First off I had Kaosfroyo v29 on there with no problems and my music and everything was working perfectly. But then i Flashed Kaos Froyo V34 in this order (clear battery/rotation/dalvik/then flash v34). I get back and the music apps (Default music app, Meridian, and Mix Zing) and they all start skipping my music after a couple seconds of playing it. it continues to skip each song sometimes after 14 seconds other times before it even starts. It does this with the loudspeaker and when there is a headset connected. I don’t believe it is a hardware issue as it doesn’t do this in when I do my nandroid restore to v29. I have tried reformatting my sd and just putting a couple songs on there. Ive tried using headphones/not using them. Ive tried turning wifi off and then playing music (heard that could be an issue). ive tried other things as well but idk what it could be. If I clear/factory reset and then flash v34 streight, it doesn’t have this issue. When I do apps with data restore with titanium and reset the phone. The issue is back! So im thinking it might be an app I have? I looked at all my music related apps and don’t see one that could be causing it. I don’t have an app killer (although I have autokiller installed but I don’t think that could be causing it). I really want to just update from v29 to v34 but I cant live with music doing this. My last resort would be to just use v29 as I don’t want to lose the state of all my apps and stuff. Music doesn’t skip in Pandora or music palyed through wifi in Zumodrive. It only skips in the default music app and the other music apps. Really frustrating. At first I thought it could also be my metamorph skin but that wasn’t it also(that was back when I was trying to update from v29 to v30 other versions with the same issue…) it always skips to the next song on the list, not fastforward or anything. also sometimes it shuts off and reboots automatically because of the skipping.
I really really wanna update. Any solutions? Ive looked through my apps and cant really see anything that might be causing this. any suggestions would help. Thanks.
Did you flash the memory? It's the first wipe option in the A RA bootloader.

i uninstalled both and then restarted and the problem was gone! i reinstalled autokiller and it works fine(after another restart). but then in installed setcpu again and then it started doing it again right away! without even doing a restart.. So it seems to be the culprit. How is setcpu interfering with it? i had it set on like 748/480 with a couple other profile settings. Also why would it start acting up now? it was working fine with setcpu in v29.
I flashed Meiculus's current rom (R5) and Enrophy512's newest kernel. All seems to work...except the default music player..fCs. I tried Google Player and it's not seeing my music on my external sd card (which music player did). Any thoughts? Ideas? I have the US YP-G70.Thanks!
Let Meiculus know about this bug. Did you do a factory reset through CWM in his directions? Troubleshoot a bit then ask him.
I had the same problem where my music was not showing up, although i was using PlayerPro, while using R5 of Meticulus's ROM. What I did to fix it was go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All Applications>Media Storage then clear data and it started to show my music again. You may need to reboot after clearing the data, mine only showed the names of songs, albums, and bands in lowercase until I did.

Be sure to let Meticulus know of this, so he can tell others how to fix this problem.
When the factory reset is done, all app data is automatically cleared. This should not have been a problem unless the installation directions were not followed. That being said, is it confirmed that this resolves the problem?
I had this same problem too. It happened to me after flashing eryigit rom and installing poweramp. After that, the default music player just force closes when I open it. Then I flahsed Meticulus' foreigner rom and it is still not working. The fix above worked for me, I can now open the default music app, thanks!
Thanks for the replies. I went ahead and flashed back to the rooted stock rom and all is well again (and I still have root). I don't remembering doing the factory reset...There was a new rom for my TB and HP at the same time, flashing too many things at once. I will give this another shot, I'm sure that was probably the issue. I'm using the SPB Shell on this (my HP also) and looks outstanding by the way. Again, thank you all for the responses. I love the Player, great for music, reading and Netflix. Just need Hulu and it will be "perfect".
I am getting this issue with almost every JB ROM I've tried flashing, My music/mp3s apps will lag after booting up my Evo3D when trying to plan an mp3, request me to wait or quit. If I quit, the music app restarts, and the mp3 will play, but if I restart my phone, I have to do it all over again.
This also has caused my phone to turn off if I have a music track set as my alarm on a couple of ROMs.
The only ROM that I haven't had an issue with is ParanoidAndroid 2.5 (the PA_AOKP Mashup).

I remember having the same issue a month or so back (I'm using agrabren's Disarmed Toaster) but it has since been fixed.
Try using DT and see if you still have the issue.
Also are you wiping dalvik + cache when you switch ROMs?

I haven't tried DT, and always wipe dalvik & cache in 4EXT after a full wipe. I'm going to mess around with things today and see where it gets me. thanks
Great, not just MP3s...
Update: Just flashed ParanoidAndroid 2.54(b), and same issue happens AND grooveshark lagged/force quit after a restart.
I'm still having issues, and have tired everything I can think of.
I re-updated the firmware/radio (just in case)
Wiped/Formated everything in 4EXT, including the SD Card to play it safe
I've changed permissions of the song to see if that'd make a difference
I've tried MIUI, CM10, PA, AKOP
I've tried with GAPPS installed/not installed, and no other apps installed.
Still, the only JB ROM that work is PA_AKOP (ParanoidKangdroid)
One thing I've noticed is when first going in to any music player after a fresh install, it can't find the music, but if I file search, open up the track (issue still happens), and restart, the tracks are found, and the issue continues
Any other ideas?
Seems like a lot of people are experiencing this issue, especially since the JB upgrades.
I am currently running the FoxHound 1.7 ROM as well as JKay framework 14.7, although I am not sure if either have anything to do with the problem.
While listening to music, when the screen shuts off (either manually or due to inactivity), the music will start skipping with varying frequency. Sometimes this doesn't happen at all, sometimes it happens so much that it renders listening impossible.
I have played with the equalizer settings and it makes no difference. I have also installed a plethora of music players, and it happens in all of them.
Please help - it is absolutely ruining an otherwise amazing phone experience, as I listen to music a LOT on my phone.

Have you tried wipe cache/dalvik and re-flash?Also have you searched your ROM's and JKAY's forums to check if there are other people with the same problem?Let me know if you find anything..
Haven't tried wiping dalvik and cache. If i wipe both and then restore from a backup, would it help?
Will ask on the jkay thread, although I reallydon't think it is that. Plenty people running stock roms complaining about the same issue.

No need to restore anything..just get into cwm recovery wipe cache and then advanced-->wipe dalvik cache and reboot your phone..If this doesnt solve the issue try to reflash your ROM..
As the title suggests, Dropbox won't work for me on slimkat.
When I try to sign in I get a quick toast telling me dropbox has stopped working then *poof* app drawer. I have restored it from TiBu with and without data, wiped the data, and installed from the app store, all to no avail. I have searched around, and found the random odd person having the same issue with dropbox or Google+ but, it sounds like wiping data fixed their problems. they were also on official Ports. Dropbox still works great on my stock ROM.
xt912
Slimkat 4.4.2. build 23 I think (whichever one was released 20140320)
SlimGapps
jbx kernel 2014-03-23
I have not run into any other issues with other apps (just occasional lag) and this is the first time I have installed a custom ROM on this phone, so don't know if previous versions of SlimKat would cause this issue with me, just wondering if anyone else had run into this, and if so,how did you fix it?
*edit* Scratch that, also found that poweramp will freeze the ROM when the screen goes off requiring a hardreset. Did a little looking and, sounds like that is a fairly common problem right now with 4.4.
Thanks.
I have not seen anything like the Dropbox app crash I just re downloaded it and tried the app and like you said it crashes instantly maybe a app issue. the last one though idk I listen to music lots of times and my phone has not done that in a long time

Dropbox, as well as music are working fine for me. Slimkat+JBX
Try wiping cache & dalvik again.
For dropbox don't restore it, perform a fresh download from Play store and see if it works.
As for, poweramp, I can't be sure 'cause I don't use it. However, wiping dalvik might fix that too. Just to confirm, you're not trying to play .flac or other lossless format.? 'Cuase that is an issue with KitKat Roms.

No difference on Dropbox. I uninstalled what I had, wiped dalvik & cache, reinstalled fresh from play store and same thing (I had already tried that before).
I can still get to Dropbox through FX so it really isn't that big of deal.
With Poweramp I will have to play with it when I get off work. No, no lossless formats, MP3 only. I don't have any problem playing anything, it is just when I shut the screen off while music is playing, sometimes I will get a skipping type sound that repeats before finally quitting. Sometimes music will just stop playing. Either way though, hardware buttons will not wake the phone, absolutely no response. I have to press down vol up and down, and the power button for a reboot.
Long story short, tried a couple different things, including another dalvik and cache wipe, and it would still freeze.
So after giving up, I went ahead and did a full wipe and partition setup to install the jbx update. After everything is done, Poweramp works with the screen off. Don't know what happened or what I had done to it, but it is undone now.
Dropbox still doesn't work *shrug* Can't win them all
I think it still is a Dropbox issue lol thanks for the update
