Ordered an HTC Amaze for my fiancee from an Amazon seller. They sent me a Telus version. I'm going to assume not, but, is there any way to get 3G or HSPA+ working using her T-Mobile SIM? Calling and texting works fine.
no I'm not sure if that's possible to change the band frequency that the phone can receive.. but then again like i said I'm not too sure.. have you thought about just having the item returned and/or exchanged?
Surprisingly, I got it to work. I programmed in tmobile's APN settings and both 3g and hspa were able to connect.
thats good to hear... everythings fine with alittle research

Hello Folks,
Just bought myself a samsung galaxy S2 and swapped my AT&T SIM into the new phone. The phone seems to be working just fine but there is no internet connectivity through the 3G network. It doesn't even show that there is a 3G connection. I've tried to go into the settings and have played around but to no avail. Could someone please help or point me in the right direction? Would be a shame to spend 600$ for a phone that only works for voice calling and wifi.
Much appreciated
Harry
I'm having the same problem. Signed up for AT&T since the international version doesn't work with Simple Mobile, have a 2GB dataplan for smart phones and 400 minutes. A friends AT&T sim with an unlimited data plan works fine no problem. Went to the AT&T store and had them test the phone with one of their sim's and it worked... Have to go back to the store on Monday and try and get someone further up the chain to take a look at this.
If you have the Inter model, you will need a 4G data plan... apparently you can swap it. Make sure they set you up in their system under the 4G plan, the price remains the same.
Edit: Have them check your SIM card also, to be safe is compatible with the 4G network.
At Bell, it costs $5 to replace your SIM card. My old SIM worked out of the box with the new phone.
and verify your apn settings. They will vary depending what data plan you are on.
The APN settings are set as the default. WAP.cingular APN gets an unhighlited H+ for a second then it drops to 3G with no connection up or down then it drops off. I'm going to use the ADB log to get more info.
Raised a case with AT&T after verifying everything twice, the latest they'll get back to me is Wednesday.
Ok, so finally got Data working. The AT&T representative, when I first signed up in store, didn't put an IMEI of an AT&T phone in the system so regardless of whether or not I had the correct smart phone data plan, the system wouldn't allow me to properly connect to the data network. So after fussing about the SIM card at the store, the AT&T rep put in an IMEI of an AT&T 4G phone in and then it connected.
Although now that i've found out that H2O wireless has an unlimited $60 plan and is an MVNO that piggy backs on AT&T, i'm tempted to sign up with them. I just need to find out if they support HSPA+ and conditional call forwarding.
I as well has the problem with my S2 not getting a data connection. I did everything that I could think of, but just wasn't getting any connection.
My wife has a Atrix (motorola) and she has the HSPA+ and 3g, so I swapped the SIMs and then my phone was getting the same connection speeds.
I went to the AT&T store and they did give me a new sim (one that said is used for the 4g) , but still nothing.. I told the rep at the counter about me swapping my wife' sim and that happened and she looked at her phone, noticed some setting and basically did a copy and paste and now I got the same speeds.
So, if anyone has any light to shed on what might have been updated.. I sure would like to know.. just in case our account gets changed or updated...
I don't recommend the new unl H2O data plan b/c I had a bad experience with them, their data speed its just too slow. Its like the lowest 3G speed of like 180kbps down and lime 86kbps up.
Using at&t non-smartphone plan I get like 7.5Mbps down and 2Mbps up for $10/mo. (big, big difference), AT&T is the way to go on the GSII.

A little off subject, will the S2 get 4G? I get the HSPA+ , but the AT&T rep said that it would not get the AT&T 4g
hey guys,
i have this exact problem. I am on a family plan and my phone number has an unlimited $15/mo data plan. I have a sim card from 2002, and it works fine with my dumb phone.
My sony ericsson C905A shows an "H" symbol as well as 3g and i can get the internet/data on it. however, on my international galaxy s2 , all i get is edge and i have no indication of either 3g or H+.
how would i be able to switch to the "4g" plan? what would i need to do when i go to the AT&T store?
4G from AT&T is HSPA+ I'm on AT&T and after some account hiccups now have 4G

okay... I need to do a speed test, but there is that new 4LTE (or something like that) isn't that the 'true' 4G?
There's HSPA+, which gives "4G"-esque speeds. I've gotten as high as 7 Mbps on it on my EU version phone running KE7. Currently available SGS2's don't support LTE; Samsung has announced a LTE version, but it is, as far as I know, not available just yet.
My understanding is that the AT&T version, due out next weekend, will NOT be LTE-capable.
The LTE version has only just come out in Korea, my guess is the US market may see it on the Verizon network first.
Just recently discovered this phone and love it!
However, i'm on T-Mobile. I'm not one of those people that have to have fast speeds on a phone and I'm usually around wi-fi.
Would this phone be worth getting and then using it on T-Mobile?
Hello! Maybe this one helps you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_IrKOXeZ7w
i have been using mine on t-mobile for a couple months now and it does suck not having 3g all the time. cant download certain things or some apps simply wont work running on edge when your out and about. works excellently on wifi. i would say if you get it for a good price do it. the screen size is awesome and its a fast phone. but i wouldnt drop $600 on it for it to run on edge. i won mine at a windows phone event night and unlocked it for $30

I totally agree with the statement from shamoozoo. I did the same thing about two months ago. I bought an AT&T phone and paid the price ($16.00 US) to get the unlock code to make it work on T-Mobile. Everthing works well except the data. Only getting Edge as the maximum data speed. Someone wrote in another thread about a pending T-Mob/AT&T data roaming agreement that will give us faster speeds and that it'll happen around the summer of this year so crossing my fingers on that one. Also, waiting for the unbranding ROM which will get rid of the AT&T "stuff" on my Titan and give me the internet sharing (tethering) for free.
t.mobile were not doing the deal I wanted so went with vodaphone. When using WiFi everything is instant. Don't know if it is the same with other networks. Even playing games online is instant. I love this phone.
HTC Titan x310a (AT&T) on T-Mobile...
Hey there. I too am a T-Mobile subscriber, using the AT&T branded version of the HTC Titan, and here's my 2ยข; When I saw the announcement for this phone, I was blown away, and just HAD to have it. I had a buddy who's with AT&T, and was eligible for a phone upgrade, but didn't want to use it, because he liked his current phone, so he allowed me to use it, so I got my Titan for $200. The biggest drawback, which others have mentioned here, is that, due to the AT&T radio firmware, which is incompatible with T-Mobile's 3G & 4G network, I'm stuck at 2G (EDGE). Also, I cannot use T-Mobile's Visual Voicemail. Other than these 2 issues, the Titan is phenomenal! Now, here's the good news; XDA-Developer members Cotulla, and the Dark Forces Team are currently working on a HardSPL & custom ROM for these incredible phones! Once they are finished, and make these tools available to the community, we will be able to flash custom Windows Phone ROMs, and different radio firmware, which will allow our Titans to use T-Mobiles
3G & 4G network bands! So my opinion is thus; the HTC Titan is an EXCELLENT phone to use on any GSM network. Good luck!
Hello,
I am in the same situation, I got the ATT Titan activated on T mobile and I get only Edge signal. Let us know when the Rom is done, I will for. I got My Titan free so nothing to lose but will like to have working on 4G.
Thank you.
I don't think alternate ROMs will get you 3G on T-Mobile. Until proven, that's just wishful thinking.
Radio Firmware doesn't change the actual Bands the phone uses its simply a hardware limitation. When and if T-Mobile does data roaming with AT&Ts 3G then yea you will have 3G/HSPA+ until then your stuck with EDGE until they light it up in your area.
And even if software controlled the radio bands we would first need compatible tmobile firmware for the Titan that would work with WP7 very restrictive OS.
The only way an AT&T-branded Titan will ever get 3G on T-Mobile USA is if and when T-Mo refarms their spectrum to use 1900MHz band for UMTS.
My Titan 2 just arrived yesterday and I unlocked it for use on Telus. Bell and Telus share the same coverage areas so me being downtown Toronto I'm pretty much set for constant LTE service.
I'm wondering though how can I tell when I'm on LTE. So far it's only shown "4G" displayed on the screen. I'm not sure if it's actually supposed to say "LTE" or not. I had to swap to a specific sim card to allow LTE speeds which I did as well.
I downloaded the app "BandWidth" to test speeds and I got almost 4.32mb/sec on the Telus network then 9.19mb/sec on wi-fi at home. Can anyone confirm these are definitely LTE speeds and not HSPA speeds?
Just want to know it's working as it should be..
Yes it should say LTE instead of just 4G.
Hmm.. Well then I'm shocked to see that I'm apparently not getting LTE in the only place where you would expect to see LTE.
Can you confirm by chance what type of speeds you're personally seeing on LTE?
As well is there any setting I should be checking to force LTE or make sure it's enabled?

Does you titan support the telus LTE frequency? .... Maybe Telus has an IMEI check for their LTE which blocks unrecognized phones (maybe)
Well I'm not sure exactly what I did but whatever it it fixed it. I did a hard reset yesterday which didn't immediately fix it. I played with the APN for a while trying different things. I changed sp.telus.com to isp.telus.com and this morning I noticed that magically it's now showing LTE.
However my newest concern is that HTC Connection app fails. On my old Titan it works fine and recognises my carrier. And now group texting and MMS fail on the Titan 2 whereas they worked perfectly on my Titan. Doesn't make sense..

Yeah I avoid that FUBAR app like the plague, I had to reset my HTC Arrive and my Lumia 900 after trying it. I'll never use it.
So my contract is up in two days and I am looking at switching to a Net10 AT&T prepaid SIM service... Any real concerns or issues? I am on latest firmware and radios and running Infection 2.9.1 ROM.
Anybody doing this, comments or wish you had done it differently?
Probably going to pull the trigger in this today unless any red flags go up.
BTW, number porting is not an issue. I'm just going to move my VZW number to Google Voice once everything is working properly.
EDIT: ordered SIM and $50 unlimited card, should be here tomorrow. Hope all goes well...

To get 4g/3g I think your going to have to follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914122 Just in case you didn't know about it.

I thought this wasn't necessary anymore with current radios and firmware?

I think it is. I'm not 100% but I guess you'll see when you use your sim card.

The Rezound out of the box supports the 900 MHz and 2100 MHz bands, which are used internationally for 3G and HSPA+. In the US, AT&T uses the 850 MHz and 1900 MHz bands, and T-Mobile uses 1700 MHz and 1900 MHz. The Rezound is great as a global phone, but it's always been limited to EDGE data in the US. This has never changed with firmware and radio updates.
The methods in the thread referenced earlier will let you get the 850 MHz band working with a very non-optimized, weak signal. That means you'll sometimes have 3G or HSPA+ on AT&T. But unless someone figures out how to optimize the signal there, you're probably still going to be stuck with EDGE most of the time.

I don't think anyone is going to find a way to optimize it for a stable connection for a while. The thread has been very quiet for a while now. Some users did get different results and I read through the thread and some people got better signal using a calibrated sensation nv file.

Hmmm... Unfortunately it appears this isn't going to work as I hoped.
What's working: Voice and SMS out of the box... MMS, Data (2G Edge, speeds in the range of 15k to 50K) with some tweaking in the APN settings.
I tried the tweaks in the other thread and changing the NV settings, it would say it connected at HSPA+ and pull an IP address, but even with the AT&T tower less than a 1/2 mile in direct line of sight from my office window it would never open a web page or work with any app that required a network connection and signal strength was in the nether regions according to Network Signal Info.
Oh well... guess it was worth a shot.

Pretty sure I got everything right. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get everything to work on 2g , and I was able to pull an IP address when it said HSPA, I just couldn't stay connected or get any data through. Spent about 2 or 3 hours working on it this afternoon and finally gave up.

That sucks man. Thanks for trying and posting your results though. I've been curious about doing this myself.

I am now in search of an AT&T or other unlocked HSPA-capable Android smartphone, willing to trade my mint condition Rezound for it... Anyone can message me if interested in swapping a similar unit like SGS2 Skyrocket or HTC Vivid... Or perhaps I should just grab a 16GB Nexus 4 from Google?

I've been saving up for the nexus 4 but they might release a new nexus device . If you're eager to get a device , I would get the nexus 4 plus you can do some stuff to enable the lte radio. hecks yeah.

Hi all. New to the WP8 game. Got a Lumia 920 at&t variant which I recently flashed to a French ROM (for GDR2), and so far everything is working great. I'm not using at&t, but rather the MVNO Straight Talk. I got Straight Talk setup and everything worked out of the box. I didn't have to mess with APN settings or anything. The phone displayed LTE and I was getting a solid 15-20mbps connection in a lot of places. The problem is I could never tell if I was using ATT or TMo (since Straight Talk does both).
Now that I'm using this French ROM, I no longer see LTE. Now it shows 4G, but I'm still getting the same speeds. Not a big deal. But really what I' looking for is an app (hopefully a free one) that displays detailed cellular information. For example I'd love to know if I'm connected to ATT or Tmo and I'd love to know if it's in fact LTE, or some HSPA variant. Heck if some app gives me information on which band/s my phone is currently operating on that would be great also.
Thanks!
Not 100% sure if this will be the answer but try ##3282#
Try "Cellular Live Tile" ... it provides a live tile that lists the network and the data speed ...
