99$? its too much i think
definitely a slick dock, but I'm inclined to agree that $99 is a tad too much. but extra USB ports a wired ethernet port it is tempting.

No HDMI out?
Apart from a wired ethernet connection, I'm not really sure what the point of this dock is.
It doesn't have it's own battery. No SD, no HDMI. It'd be nice to have VGA, but it doesn't have that either. Sooooo, you get an extra USB. Nice, but USB hubs are cheap.
For $100, I'd just buy another keyboard dock and have it as a spare battery.
OP, thanks for posting. Initially, I was thinking, COOL... But after that little buzz wore off, I started questioning the practicality, and it just doesn't seem to quite make sense.
I've been looking for something exactly like this but the price is too steep IMO. :\
I've got one. Price is to steep for what it is. Should also have HDMI out.
But apart from that it does work well now that my prime has been designated an alarm clock.
I use lucid daydream non stop for the clock.
Timely for the alarm.
And I set up a tasker profile to open tune in to my local radio station a couple minutes after the alarm gets dismissed.
All of that piped to a soundbar connected via Bluetooth.
I picked up a right angle HDMI so I can plug it into the TV as well without a cable sticking way out the side. But it should have been built in.

I just got mine from my local best buy. I looked all over the store and couldn't find it. They had them where they normally store their new phones at. Love the sleek design but not worth 50 bucks IMO.
Does it come with an MHL adapter? Or do you have to buy that over and above the $50 cost?
And I have been checking my local Best Buy stores, but they never have had them in stock. Out of frustration, I went into my local Sprint store to see if maybe they had them first. Nope. But the guy checked on it for me, and he found there was like 150 of them just sitting in a warehouse, with no ETA on when they will be shipped!!! And they had been just sitting in that warehouse for weeks!!!
Weird. My Sprint store had this in stock on day 1. Maybe it was a Evo 4G one.
In either case, does this work with the MHL adapter?
Saw the dock at Best Buy and was allowed to open up the box to check out the dock. It does NOT come bundled with a MHL adapter. The only items in the box were the dock, a wall usb adapter, and a micro usb cable to charge it. IMO it is definitely NOT worth $49.99

It does work with my tmobile MHL adapter, there is a video button that needs to be push to activate the hdmi output.
I got mine today as well. I am having problems with it though.
I will be playing a game, or an emulator and every 15-45 seconds the screen will flicker off then back on, and the sound will flicker back to the phone, then back to the TV once the screen comes back.
It does not seem to have this issue on the "main" phone screens or when I am in lesser video/sound intensive apps like mail clients etc.
If I disconnect the video dock and directly use the MHL Adaptor I have zero issues so I doubt the MHL adaptor is at fault.
Anyone else experiencing this who owns one? or did I get a dud?

Finally found one yesterday at another local BB than the one I normally go to. If you are in the Irving, Texas area, the South Irving BB, by the 183 (Airport Freeway) has about 3, and Lewisville BB has maybe 1 left, as I bought the other. I also bought that T-Mobile MHL adapter for their HTC Sensation. Using the 50% off coupon, link in the MHL post, I got it for only $10!
As I had a number of spare HDMI cables laying around, but not long enough individually, I also bought 2 Rocketfish HDMI couplers for about $29 each.
Sooooo, put it all together, pressed the button to enable docking mode and,.... and, .... NOTHING! The TV screen was blank! You would think that the HDMI out would work in dock mode, right? WRONG! I then tested the MHL direct into the phone, and I did get picture and sound on the TV. So was the dock defective in some way???!!!
Turned out, after near 30 minutes of futzing around and pulling hairs out, that by accident I found out it only worked in non-dock mode. Duh! How counter intuitive can you be?! So now it works, and fairly decently too.
Now those of you who might think the dock not worth the extra buckaroos, I personally love it! And those worried that the adapter in the dock might screw up your port on the phone? DON'T WORRY. It is an extremely smooth insert. Require zero pressure to put it in. You can darn near just lay the phone on the dock, and if positioned properly, gravity does the rest.
Now of course, my Platinum case won't fit on the dock. But it only takes a few seconds to remove or place it back on. So no biggy for me, unless you are someone THAT anal about things???
We just got some in at the Radioshack I work at and I definitely will never spend $50 on this. It's cool if you want your phone at an angle connected to a computer... big deal... and you still have to get the MHL adapter and an HDMI cable to get it on a tv. So, $50 for the dock, $30 for the adapter, $20 for the HDMI cable. $100!!!! Wasted!!!
Whatever you can do my E3D can do better!

Anybody use either the car or home dock for the X2. Are they worth the $25?
I use the desk dock. Before the gingerbread update, I hated it because the default notification sound played when you connected it and for me, it kept playing it randomly while plugged in. With the update, they disabled that from playing at all (it was completely unnecessary to begin with).
If you do decide to get it, I would suggest getting the Droid X Essentials pack. It can be found on Amazon.com for around $50 and it includes the desk dock, car dock, HDMI cable, wall charger, and car charger.
The desk dock is nice, and if you have a standalone gps or a universal car mount, you can get the dock, hdmi cable for only 28 dollars on amazon...if you need the car mount, obviously go with the pack, but i already had a universal clamp so i saved the 22 dollars, and I love the dock.
Not to hijack, but does anyone know if the X2 dock will fit the Bionic? Really don't want to get it, if I'm going to have to get a new one in a month or two..

There's always a chance, but the bionic looks a bit thicker, and since it may be webtop capable, the ports may be reversed or spaced differently. It's totally worth the $20, and i'll buy it from you for 15 if it ends up not fitting in a month or two ;D
I have the car dock and am very happy with it. I like it way better then the compression mount I had with my old phone.

Is a blue tooth module so you could hook your prime up to the tv and take the dock for typing to the couch and so forth. Having a long ass HDMI cable dangling from the prime is kind of impractical for couch surfing.
Considering the prime's BT issues even that could be a problem lol.
You could buy a bluetooth keyboard with some form of mouse input built in. I have this, which I can't find anywhere anymore, but there looks to be a smaller version here that might do the trick.
There are apps you load so you can control your prime from your Android phone. Like a remote..
I already have a diNovo Edge, great keyboard. I just thought it would make the dock even that much more functional instead of going out and buying another accessory.
Thanks for the app tip and keyboard link. :good:
I'd rather have USB 3.0 as another slot altogether. they could have done it and I would have paid extra for it
I voted to raise the thread star level.
I agree with the Bluetooth for the keyboard cause having a 12' HDMI cable going from my tv to my lap is a bit of a tripping hazard. Also I agree with the addition of a second USB port that is USB 3.0 so data could be transferred faster.
I bet we will see all of these added to the next tablet released by Asus, if not Apple or Microsoft will jump on it and give customers what they are asking for.

The one in your link is for the N2 and S3-S4. One new feature the N3 came out with is the USB 3.0.
I'm waiting for Sammy to come out with a dedicated dock for the N3 to take advantage of the higher speeds, that is if you want to set it up as your new desktop computer with mouse/keyboard, HDMI monitor and an external HDD hooked up to it... I'll wait.
The one in the link is for the GN3 as well if you check.
I wouldn't hold my breath. Samsung doesn't seem to be in any hurry to come out with ANY accessories for the GN3, let alone a dock that is going to be pretty much the same as this one. The 3.0 usb is only faster for smaller files. There's been a couple of guys on the forums who have run some tests. I personally have found it a little faster for some things, but overall, not much. With my set up and an SSD, I'm not waiting for anything at all when I'm working on it.

It is for n3 also. You're not benefitting much from the usb3. I'd rather wait for 64bit phones to come out and mature some before I start using a desktop dock.

It should work fine, but I don't have one so I can't test it to see. By connecting the keyboard with a mouse it automatically switches the interface to the mouse instead of the phones touch screen, so It may or may not see the touch screen feature of the monitor. I would just take it to someplace like Best Buy and test it first if I were you.

Right, it's compatible with the N3, but it doesn't mean it was made for it.
So you think the end user would benefit more (see the actual speed increase) from the 64 bit computing rather than transfer speeds increase from using the USB 3.0? I'm sure the dock station mean for a light home use (internet, documents, multimedia, etc, not sure about gaming with this setup) and not for the 3D modeling and such? I honestly can't say that I was blown away from switching to 64 bit home PC and notebook, the noticeable difference on a phone would be even less.
Thinking about it, can't even say I'd see the benefits of USB 3.0 as I don't (and won't be) copying files between the phone memory and the external storage.

I'm a bit concerned that case seems' significantly thinner than mine but the pics will be much appreciated It will allow me to make an informed decision and have you done the HDMI connection to a TV is there an issue with it or is everything on the dock working properly I saw the video about the KMV switcher where he forced landscape but the sizing issue is of concern I'll probably have to bite the bullet on that one.

Everything works perfectly. I watch full screen HD movies on my home theater system all the time. And the dock automatically switches the view on the HDMI connected peripheral to landscape. as long as you have daydream toggled off in display and desk home screen display toggled on in accessory. You should also set HDMI audio output to surround if you have a home theater system.
You don't need KMV switcher.
I get my movies from Showbox. Due to XDA policies, I can't post the apk for it here, but you can just Google it to download and install.
I am not getting 1080p
When I hook up the dock to the monitor it is giving me 1280x720. Any ideas?

I'm really disappointed with the smart dock.
There is a lag of half a second between the action and the display on the TV screen, It's impossible to play any games in theses conditions.

There is lag from the MHL connection to the TV. I've an aftermarket MHL to HDMI cable and Samsungs own MHL connection, both which have a lag on TV screen compared to what is actually happening on the device.
Fine for Movies and Stuff, but completely unsuitable for gaming.

See NZtechfreak's YouTube vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hy3wETf5o0 here.
He plays games with the SmartDock and his PS3 controller, so "completely unsuitable for gaming" is a bit of an exaggeration.
And nobody said there was no lag. I questioned the previous poster's "half second" lag experience. The lag through the dock is closer to a tenth of a second, as is clearly visible the clip.
If that's unacceptable to you, then your choice is clear - don't get one. And not everybody plans on gaming. For me, the ability to stream Netflix to my TV justifies the SmartDock's existence.

Check in the description of his video on YouTube. He has links for his set up.
This is pretty awesome, and while it's a bit pricey for a car dock solution, it IS a car dock solution and one that meets my requirements (not having to plug in a power cord every time).
Any way of getting the car mode to launch? Perhaps an NFC tag or something?
The charging pad is actually glued to tackform.
I'm also using ringke fusion case, it is a bit tight/shallow with the case on.
When I got extra time I'm going to try make better video so it can show more details.

It is a bit pricier than what I want but tackform built quality also pretty good for $20.
The other one that I also consider is exo mount, I have the old version, the clamp. It work with small device. But with nexus 6 it's a little wobbly.
The new version is for one handed but I don't think it's going to work.
I'm sorry not sure about car mode, NFC. Have to do my research again.
For now I'm just going to set up tasker app so screen would stay on while wirelessly charging. Still learning.
Oh also looking for angle head micro usb so it wouldn't sticking out like that.
