[Q] Screen too bright in while in dock - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I put my phone in the Samsung dock to charge overnight. It goes first to Desk home screen then to a clock that moves around. This is the desired behavior but the clock screen is too bright. How can I dim JUST that one mode? I don't any of the other modes to be dimmer.
TIA

Bump again... I appreciate that this may be below the technical interest level of the many great contributors to this forum but my wifie is about to insist that I put the phone in a drawer at night.

You could try the app 'screen filter'. You'd have to manually turn it on and off, but might do what you need.

Thanks... I was hoping for an automated feature. I can dim it manually each time now. This phone is so good it is hard to imagine there is not a setting or tweak that can't handle this but I still haven't found it. For that matter I can't even find the settings for night time (bedside) mode.
Thanks again.

SOLVED [Q] screen randomly goes full brightness.

As the title says my GFs 10.1 will go full brightness at random times. Only way to change it back is to go into setting. The slider is all the way down but have to slide it to full then back down. Any ideas guys?
The fix is: Go TO SETTINGS, SCREEN, AUTO ADJUST SCREEN POWER, UNCHECK. Thanks bd85!

I have had this issue as well when using auto brightness function. Only when viewing photo albums. Very annoying. I no longer use the auto brightness function now. Little issues like this drive me crazy. Add this to the keyboard lag and other small issues and i start to question the purchase.
Thankfully i found this site to help me realize its not just me...misery loves company. Lol.
Have you guys tried to shut off the option in setting that's can analyze the screen color and more and the adjust the screen for power savings.
I have noticed what you are mention. And it only appears in movie's because the picture change often so the tab tried to compensate the colors often.
Go TO SETTINGS, SCREEN, AUTO ADJUST SCREEN POWER, UNCHECK.
And I am not talking about the auto brightness that you can access from clicking on the lower right part of your screen

That seemed to be it. Didn't think to check that since the Xoom doesn't have that setting. One thing i wish the xoom had was the whole different wallpaper for lock screen thing the 10.1 has.

[Q] Touchstone: How to keep the TP off while on the Touchstone?

how do I keep the TP from turning on while on the touchstone? I don't want a clock or pictures, I just want it dark in my room at night. I can turn off the power when I first set it on the dock but when its fully charged on pops the screen again. How can I disable this?
Thanks
install preware if you dont have it already, go to patches and look for charge only option. there's several to choose from. pick one you like and use.
I'm pretty sure if you hit the power button after exhibition mode starts it will turn the screen off for good. But what I did was install the minimum brightness patch so now when its in exhibition mode it is much darker and much less bothersome when trying to sleep. To install the patch you'll need preware installed.

Do you happen to know the name? I found one called Quick System Tasks and it locked up my tab. I looked through all the prepare apps and only found that one.

Are you using the Preware app on your Touchpad?
Preware -> Available Packages -> Patch -> Search -> Enter "Charge"
The search is started by tapping the magnifying glass in the top button, which brings up the keyboard. Type in "charge" (without the quotes).

Or when it receives any notifications for that matter. I've resorted to just keeping the cover on the HP case closed so it covers the screen when I leave it on the touchstone overnight.

If you're talking about the temp of the device, I'm not really sure. I installed the minimum brightness patch the second day I got it because it was way too bright to have as a bedside clock. I also have a case on it, but it doesn't feel warm when I take it off the stone. Also, the lowest brightness with the patch can only be set in the screen and lock app. You cannot set it from the drop down on the home screen.

uhhh im sure he is asleep by the time it fully charges.
i have a solution
1) put the charger and the touchpad into a box
2) tape the box up
3) put my address on the box
4) take it to the post office and send it to me
that should fix your problem

[Q] Desktop Nightime Clock?

It seems that HTC has deleted the old Sense desktop clock I had on my Dinc. I have tried several new clocks but they all have a backlight in the dim mode that is very bright in a dark room and I assume it also consumes a lot of battery.
Does anyone know a clock app that has a "black" screen, meaning not backlit, that also turns off the red LEDs. I have tried Desktop Plus, Alarm Clock plus, Clock Saver, etc.
I tried to find something like this as well and just ended up using the stock alarm clock and turning the screen on the phone off when I go to bed...
Look for Relax and Sleep in the market. I don't use it for an alarm but it has a nice desk clock mode. Doesn't seem too bright at night to me either.
Thanks for the input. I tried the app and it is still pretty light in the dark--again it is backlit. However, this app made me think about Lighting Bug which is similar (also a sound machine). I opened it and it has a number of clock mods you can do and it might be the darkest screen yet.
I use Locale with the shortcut plugin. I tell it to turn the brightness down to 20% when docked and it's after 9pm. I also have it launch the clock app. The combination works great.

I use Kaloer Clock and its awesome...tons of settings and its free. I have an orange led alarm clock with no backlight and 10% brightness.....works perfect and also has a screen saver setting to prevent burn in(although i dont know if burn in is really an issue on this phone..any thoughts?) Def check it out though
Interesting. So you guys are talking about being able to always see the time?
Yeah, might worry about burn in but that would be handy.
Thanks for this Kaloer Clock app. This one looks like a winner. It has the darkest screen, most settings, screen saver, and button lights out. Can't ask for more than that and it solves my problem.

Thank for showing me this app. It has the darkest screen I've seen, a lot of custom settings, and is exactly what I was looking for. I put it on 1% dim, dark blue letters, no button lights, full screen, and keep screen on--it's a winner. It'll be sweet dreams tonight.

Wow, this is exactly what I was looking for but I thought HTC had removed it. I just never waited long enough for it to take effect. Simple with the darkest screen. I do wish there was someway to activate it sooner but the screen is dark, time moves around the screen, and it turns off the buttons.
Thanks
I have found Gentle Alarm to work well. Was free a while back on Amazon's FAOTD. I use it on both my Touchpad and Rezound when we travel.

Well, I think they call it "image persistance" or something. I've seen it on LCD monitors at work. I work on software that has a constant image (not a pic, but the software layout stays in one place) on one of the monitors and while most of the icons did not have a burn in, if you were at the desktop you could see a distinct line across the screen where there was a separation of screen elements on that monitor. So when watching a quicktime on that monitor's desktop level you could see a horizontal line through it. I don't know why just that one line showed up since the icons are usually permanent (they can be changed but usually once someone programs their setting that's what they use). The only thing is those are clicked and the button changes when that happens so maybe that's why.
Anyway, I'll wait for reports back before I use one of these clocks with my phone.

That sounds good, I like that it moves on the screen. I can't find out how to activate it though. Where are the settings?
If you go to the HTC Desk Clock (not the dock) and just leave the screen open, in about 5 minutes the small night clock will automatically start and the button lights will go out. There are no settings that I am aware of.
Sadly, after trying night clock last night, it is backlit like all the rest. The backlight is very bright in a dark room IMO. I just got out my old Dinc, went to the Desk Clock, and it has a button toward the bottom of the screen that lets you activate the night clock. Also the background is absolutely black, not backlit.
Still trying to find that dark screen with clock!!!!!

black tape it or use permanent marker
Hello,
I think ales47 is searching for the possibility to turn off LED only while charging. Otherwise, in normal use, he wants the LED to work normally.
Is it possible to turn off the LED only while charging phone?
Yeah i too think of the same thing. actually the green light is very much bright than the yellow one. i have to keep it upside down to keep the light off. other than that i have no idea to consider you.
or you have to use a light form or something (that it wont hurt the screen) when you charge. and the miss call notification is very annoying at night too. every flash will kill your sleep slowly. i have to clear the notifications before i sleep.
Any other suggestions?

Seriously, you are very helpful to us
haven't tried it out myself, but in settings - profiles you select a profile, and the last option PHONE, the last option again is LIGHTS MODE and is set in no override.
You could create a profile for the night with the setting switched to OFF.
Hope it works

I once tried the profile thing but i had no notifications. but this is regarding a light steadily lighting. i guess it is for the notifications only.
I don't know why it bothers you at night... at some point I can't even sleep without having light on phone... Put a tape over the LED? I just think it's not possible to change this...
Hey bro you really should search before starting a new thread

Any way to stop screen dim when charging?

I like to listen to Pandora while working and keeping the phone charged. I have the setting to not turn off the screen when charging but it does dim, making it hard to see notifications/other things.
Is there a way to stop it from dimming while charging?

Ha you got a free thanks......
So what you do to keep the screen from dimming...goto settings/display and set the sleep to never turn off.......this will keep the screen from dimming but don't forget to change it back when not charging....this will drain your battery pretty fast.

This is the correct (albeit, more expensive) answer. Buy Tasker from the Play Store, set a profile that, when plugged in, sets brightness to a certain percent (instead of automatic) and sets screen timeout to never. Add an exit profile that returns brightness to automatic and sets screen timeout to whatever you want it to be.
I found a (legally) free solution

"Always on"
I tried three or four anti-sleep/anti-dim apps and this one works great on my EVO 4G LTE stock ROM!
Please reply if this also works for you!
