After upgrading to Android 4.1.1 my Galaxy s3 now reboots randomly all the time. It never happened once before the update.
Any ideas what could be causing this? It never happens during any specific action so I can't really tell what it is.

It's also happening to me!
According to samsung its happening due to some software bug which causes the flash memory to stop responding and making the device reboots! they will soon provide an update which will fix this bug! hopefully it will be the 4.1.2 update!

I wouldn't want to just lose all my customizations though. Did you have the same problem with the 4.1.1 upgrade?

Oh well, too bad for Samsung on this one. I'm just gunna replace their firmware with Cyanogen mod and all should be fine.

It's always better to do a factory reset after a major update. Back up your phone through Samsung Kies and factory reset it.

It's all good. I have CyanogenMod now. I haven't tried a custom ROM until now.
I must say, I'm quite glad I made the switch. It's so much better than Samsung's ROM! Everything is smooth and runs cleaner and faster with no bloatware running in the background or taking up memory.

Could be a hardware problem, if you're under 30 days or have insurance i wouldnt be worried to much. This is the first im hearing of this particular problem; Do you have an airave at home by chance?
I forgot to say that I am using the phone in Canada. My phone got very hot and drained battery very fast few hours ago. I think there is a hardware problem on my phone
What is airave?
With what you just said, you most likely do have a hardware problem...

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before but I promise I have tried to find a solution prior to posting here.
This morning I have received the notification of software update I guess to JB and I have selected cancel download by mistake. Since then I cannot get the update back on my phone, I have tried scanning for the update and all sorts but nothing seems to work.
Anyone here have any idea how to get the phone back to update? I would prefer not to use kies if possible.

Keep auto update on maybe? If not then dont worry. Its probably just some bug fixes. If your desperate tho maybe you can find the stock rom updated v. And flash it in odin

If it's any consolation it won't be Jellybean update as the rumour mill suggests there won't be an official JB release until late August.

If you couldn't download the update manually, just wait. It'll come again in a day or two.
My phone has recently just started to turn off randomly. It will do this whether the battery is full or lower. It hasn't done this if it is plugged in to an AC outlet, but I believe it has done this before when plugged into a computer. I push the awake button but don't get any response. I hold down the power button for about ten seconds to reset it. Any ideas on why this is dong this? It just started doing this about a month ago and I have had the phone since I bought it new about a year and a half ago.

Usually when someone knowledgeable of the issue replies in the thread, they give a little more in depth answer than just a one word reply. I'm not trying to have a drawn out phone-like conversation on the issue, just an answer. He was being curt on purpose. No hard feelings though
And there wasn't a reason for me to think that a new update would cause my phone to turn off in sleep mode. I did a search and nothing came up. Even if I looked in that thread, I would have to have to go through 4 pages of banter to see the issue brought up.
I think this is a big enough issue to warrant it's own thread. Most people have stock ROM (maybe not on this site) and update to the newest software version when prompted to on their phone. But like I said, no hard feelings. Just want to get a limelight on this and get it resolved.

I downloaded the update OTA. I haven't used KIES for an update in awhile. Looks like I'll have to live with it until a new update comes out.. No reason to think they wouldn't provide an update to fix the issue promptly.

So you clearly didn't look in the thread with the title 4.0.4 in it, being the issue started when you upgraded to this firmware ....
And if they didn't bother fixing an issue with the kernel that can hard brick a device just from wiping, why would they fix this issue?

Hi djembey, and do you think that it might be the cause even if I have the ROM with Samsung patch installed? For SGS3 it is XXELLA. It started to freeze/stuck last Saturday, sometimes it restarts without my intervention, sometimes i had to do it myself.
Thanks

Yes, it says insane chip. Memory check passed without errors. I have the ROM that should have applied the Samsung patch for this chip, but I think it fixes only the hard dead. It stucks with both, rooted and unrooted ROMs, I did many Odin reinstalls during last few days. I tried even a very old 4.0.4 and it also did not work correctly. I think it froze even with pure install after factory reset, I have to back it up and try once again.
You're both very unlucky. Insane chip mean SDS sooner or later. I'll use warranty to get replacement. Samsung reckons that in new Kernel is fix for it but people still reporting dead S3's.

I fixed it for now by factory reset and Titanium restore, but I think it will be better to send it to service.

try full wiping your phone and install a new rom exclude XXELLA build because it's one the versions that cause hanging

Hi xda devs. I want to know why my mega starts lagging and its not rooted at all so what is wrong?
Sent from my GT-I9152 using xda app-developers app
Disable apps that you don't need, that will help. Also if you started facing this issue recently then check which app you installed as that might be causing an issue.
I am unrooted as well and my Mega is running fine with no lags, if you have updated with the Galaxy Gear update recently then go back to the previous version as some people have complained of lags and heating after the update, which I have not infact I feel its a bit more responsive after the update.

Mega 5.8 is running flawlessly without root. I had it rooted before but find it better all stock and unrooted hence decided to stay that way... Rooting is not always a solution.

Rooting doesn't solve all problems. If unrooted, try to solve your problem before rooting.
