Hi,
So I am wondering if it is possible to root the international S3 without a computer. I am running Swedish stock 4.1.1.
I am not new to android but I am new to xda. The reason I am asking is because I am currently backpacking in Australia and I need to root so I can get the latest update + fix a bunch problems.
With me I have a Asus transformer Eeepad if it helps at all wich I doubt.
Thanks in advance all you helpfull xda members.
Regards Reclused
If you have another device there is an app that can root from another phone... I'll look for it and post the link
Strange.. I have it installed but not showing anywhere for a link. Search root transmission here in the forums. You'll find it

Thank you very much. You have saved me!!

How would you do that, rooting one device with another rooted device and not use Odin/Mobile Odin? Can`t think of a way right now.

Imo impossible, you always need Odin to install SU and/or CWM. If you can run that from a tablet it is oke.
-EDIT- Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014121, but not for the international S3 atm, not supported yet.
Thanks a lot, I hope they figure it out soon for the international one.
The thing is that I want the latest update on my s3 but I can't get it OTA because it is "changed" status. So I figured I would root it and flash the latest stock version via mobile Odin. But can I root the TF101 without a computer and then use the root transmission perhaps? It has the latest version 9.2.1.27 ICS.

Check this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1104, make sure it is for your model. I don`t have a tablet myself so can`t help you much there
Root your asus: see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366743
Oh i saw u linked the root transmission app link sorry for misunderstanding. Okay it seems I'm ****ad... :/ Thanks for all your help. Anyways.

I don't know wether this is a stupid question. Dunno much about rooting.thinking about rooting. But am anxiously awaiting the official jb update. Will I be able to update to this if I'm rooted? I mean if ota or via kies? Or rooting will prevent this? Pls shed some light!!!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
AFAIK you'll be able to install the update without any problems, but you'll need to re-root after installing it.
So I don't have to unroot or anything and can just simply update without doing anything u mean?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
It is easy to do, took me under 5 mins today, don't be afraid to root
If it gives you any grief with OTA update you can un-root without leaving any signs of doing it there is some good guides online just google it. This forum won't let me post links here but try the galaxys3root website, their guides are very good.
I'm sorry, but I dint get u. U meant easy to root or easy to update?

As previously said, if you are rooted you can still update and use the OTA for it whereas after updating you will loose root and have to re-root.
To make it even more simple you can use MobileOdin which will root automatically during the update process.
And one more question is about the flash counter on s3. Does rooting start a count or only when u flash a Rom it happens?

rooting, if I understood well, does not increase the counter (?). whereas when you are rooted you can easily reset the counter with Triangle Away app, its just one click.

Did someone will risk to try Boot menu manager from market?
It hijacks android booting process and installs a custom recovery.
Personally I use it on mine Motorola Razr.
I'd try it but I lost root on mine Xperia S.
Warning: brick is possible, so if someone try it make sure the tab is still in warranty period.
What we will gain?
Custom roms, CM10, etc.
Only problem is we dont have a custom recovery for our tab so we cant install what we dont have lol.

What is your busybox version?
Last one is 1.21.0.
You can download busybox from market, check version and update if it's too old.
If you update choose normal install.

Hijack "should" work on any android.
Bellow is a link to the original tread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720351
Mounting and flashing can cause a lot of problems.
We can use hijacking with pre-compiled CWM for Sony tablets.
But first we need a proof of concept. Will hijack work on our tablets?
Busybox 1.20.2 doesnt work

but but if it works, that's gonna flash a recovery for droid RAZR...
And how do you expect it to work with the Sony Tablet S?
I am trying to get the information about the application so I can find out what binary does it use.

I'm guessing it's because you're on the LL4 OTA which patched the exploit. Follow the guide in development.

Hi,
This is my first post and have a few questions about my phone. I recently rooted my s3 and flashed the siyah kernel by CWM and also flashed jkay framework. I am going to Europe for two and a half weeks and would like to unlock my phone. I have read about using the dialer to unlock the phone. But it only works on 4.1.1 and my phone is 4.1.2 so I was thinking of dual booting my phone with my current stock rom and a stock 4.1.1 and then unlocking it. I was wondering if this would work.
I have another question is there a way to tell if my bootloader is unlocked. I've researched this and eople say of the Samsung logo stays for more than a second its locked. I have also read people saying only the verzion one is locked. When my phone boots I get the siyah logo then the 3 UK boot animation then the Samsung logo glowing for about 3 secs.
I am grateful for any help. Thanks in advance.

the bootloader is not locked on this device.
Thx do you have any idea if it would carrier unlock my device
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
If you're rooted, use galaxsim unlock to sim unlock the device. Bootloader lock is completely unrelated. Its only locked on verizon phones

I have looked at galaxsim unlock but I would prefer a free unlock method, any suggestions?

Yes, search galaxsim unlock on xda instead of on play.

Price of unlocking via the play store us cheaper than a replacement motherboard so do test your EMMC for sds as per the "sudden death - are you covered?" Thread in general. At least make sure you're fully aware of the risks before flashing 4.1.1

Use this file to unlock your phone. Busybox enables the app to unlock your phone it is used by many apps. Have you actually installed Busybox or just downloaded the app.
