Root problems. - HTC Droid DNA

Hello, I just upgraded to the new droid DNA on 1-13-2013. I got the bootloader unlocked and flashed the recovery without problems but, when I flashed the superuser files using recovery it fails and says md5 file or something like that was not found but with the failure to install, it still put the superuser, su and busybox files in the correct sytem folders. I booted my device and open supersu and it said I need to update the su file but that update failed too. I also did a full stock restore to see how it goes for me beause I hear people say once you do that you can't
re-unlock the bootloader but, I got the bootloader re-unlocked witout problems. I wanted to add that because people was asking if any body else was having problems re-unlocking. What I want to know is how can I get root? I still have my bootloader unlocked. Can I install a pre rooted stock rom using custom recovery or will that fail too since I cant get the supersu installed successfully?

Go check out the ROMs in the Android Development Section. Most, if not all, of the ROMs have the superuser and BusyBox built in. Try UKB.
Cheers!

Thanks, I did that but when I went to install it the install started but it didn't go through. The install started for about 1 second and it just just booted me. I had to rerun the full RUU.exe i found in the xda forum to reinstall. The only thing I want to do is just root to be able to delete bloat. I hope somebody comes out with a way to root without having to unlock boot loaders.

[Q] Problems rooting ICS

Well, two days ago I decided to put ICS on my Amaze. Previous to ICS I was Rooted with S-ON, and Unlocked.
I followed the instructions on the Development section to install ICS on my unlocked, S-ON Amaze. However after I installed CWM, and flashed Superuser, Titanium Backup, or any other root app says I don't have root privileges.
From what I understood, once SU was flashed, the device would be rooted.
I used the All In One Kit to put the CWM Recovery, and flash the SU. I did HTC Steps to unlock the phone (which the AIO Kit helped also)
I tried looking for a solution or something before posting, but I couldn't find one in the 80+ pages of the ICS thread in the Development section.
Thanks in advance!
I initially had an issue flashing Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip (found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20992340&postcount=4) because I didn't toggle the signature setting in recovery. Perhaps it didn't flash correctly? Make sure it said it was successful at flashing the zip.
Flash it again.
Wait....I sent this with Tapatalk?
I realized that my tool didn't set the SU permissions. I have to fix that. Just flash the SU zip file and it'll be fine.

You sure can. Detailed instructions posted in development section. Basically you need to unlock bootloader through HTC, flash a custom recovery, load up the superuser zip, then flash it in your custom recovery. More details are given in other posts already.

Just going to throw this out there. I flashed superuser after installing ICS to get root. It works for most applications, but one app that it doesn't work with is LuckyPatcher (to get rid of those stupid ads in my other apps). For LuckyPatcher to work, I had to install superSU (can be found from the play store). It seems to be my default root app now.

Yep, LuckyPatcher didn't like it. Installing SuperSU took care of it, and it works fine with all of my other apps.

[Q] No app root access after HTC unlock.

So I did the HTC unlock after receiving my Asurion claim (1.19 Hboot) a couple months ago. I haven't messed around with it much because I've been busy irl. I installed TWRP, Fresh, and just recently the "deSensed ICS ~ Dialer, Tumblers & Apps! -Updated Mean4.4 & Goodies2.11!" theme. Now I've been thinking I'd really like to just flash CM10 now that it's starting to mature so I installed TB and it wasn't able to gain root access (tried a couple different SU apps). I checked several other apps and none were able to gain root (ES file explorer, Quick Boot, Root Explorer, etc). I originally thought that the issue was the fact I flashed Fresh over the stock rom after just wiping Cache but I just wiped everything (Cache, Dalvik, System, Factory Reset, in that order), flashed a newly downloaded Fresh rom, and downloaded TB and got the same "Root Access: Failed" error. I'm at a loss. I'm running Fresh, I have TWRP installed, but I have no root access. Any help would be appreciated.

try root checker basic from the playstore to confirm you are rooted but it doesn't make sense the you can have twrp and flash fresh without root
Sounds like your Su binaries may have got messed up. Try using only one Su and see if that works. You may need to flag Su in twrp

I had the SU that comes in Fresh installed and it wasn't working so last night I installed a different one from the market, that didn't work either, uninstalled. I tried updating binaries on one (couldn't find the option to do it on the other) and that worked fine but it failed to gain root.
Just now I fixed Permissions via TWRP, deleted the SU that comes with Fresh via TWRP, uninstalled and reinstalled the other SU with the same results.
Try going into su and check grant permissions automatically and make sure fastboot is unchecked.....see if that helps

HUH?
I tried re-locking and doing the HTC unlock again. I restored my Fresh nandroid and I have the same results. I'll try re-locking and unlocking again when I get a chance and this time I'll see if SU works before restoring.
I have same issues. Adaway and wifi tether both say I have no root. Running meanRom 4.6 with s-on. Will be watching thread for hopeful fix.

I actually unlocked my phone last night 10-17-12 using htcdev (still S-on)... Everything was and still is stock and TB, Adfree and tether tells me I'm not rooted... Was wondering the same thing.

Can I have a link to a flashable one, the one from market isn't cutting it?
Hit it twice and make it count.
Unlocked does not give you root. It enables you to install a Rom with root access or install superuser. If you are unlocked and have installed a custom Rom with root support, you should already have superuser in the app drawer. Update whatever superuser app you have to the newest, and reboot.

Still not able to root successfully.

I got my boot loader unlocked successfully following the step by step instructions. I successfully installed twrp. I tried flashing the superSU file using twrp I downloaded from here but every time I try it fails. I've flashed the boot.IMG I got from here and still can't flash the supersu files and cant flash pre rooted roms to get successfully rooted. I even tried rebooting into recovery to flash again but no success no matter how many times I try. I used every tool that is released here and nothing works. Does anybody know why and am I the only person? I have the us version of the Droid DNA from Verizon. I just upgraded to it on 1/13/2013 and its 100% new & not refurbished.
I did a Google search and I read a little about s-on and s-off . If my Droid DNA is s-on how do I convert it to s-off. I don't know for sure but that maybe why trying to get my phone rooted is failing for me. Is that what my problem is?

Thanks But what do you mean i can't convert to s-off or i can't get this rooted? I never had this problem before. This is my first HTC I came from Motorola I was using Motorola from my first phone droid up to the razr. I love this HTC droid DNA.
If there's an error message, post it for more help possibly.
I've also heard some have had issues with TWRP recently.

Yes when I flash the supersu files it said failed md 5 not found or something like that and when I tried to install a prerooted ROM it was over 800mb in size and it was taking more than 15 to install so I stop it. I tried another ROM and it started to install for about a second and it just stopped and rebooted my phone.
I don't know how to use the cwrm because it will not install anything from the internal memory so I can select the supersu files or ROM. I dont know anything about side loading but I tried somebody's tool I got from here to side load a ROM but it would not work for me.
Did you watch video on YouTube. That helped me a lot.

Thanks I'm fine now. I got rooted and got the pre rooted stock installed. I don't know why I was having all that problems rooting. I keep getting the message failed every time I tried flashing using the twrp but last night I successfully got root after flashing using twrp. I thought I was dreaming and almost fell over when I finally got rooted. Also the superSU dont update the su. I launched the SuperSU and it said to update the su file but when I did it also failed. The superuser is working better than SuperSU so far. Thanks y'all.
The message I was getting was just failed. The text on the twrp is so small its to hard to read.

I had the same issue, my phone would constantly freeze when trying to flash a new rom, or if it went through i would get an infinite boot loop. i dont know what i did to fix it, re-stocked my phone with the RUU, and flashed the battery plus rom, it went through and has worked beautifully since. so maybe try that rom and see if it works for you like it did with me, i tried HATKA and CODIS with no luck

Rooting issues, "limbo" unrooted after trying manual method

I have experience rooting in the past but not on this phone.
I tried rooting using the manual method a couple months ago and it did not go all the way through. At one point during the root process when I had to reboot into the bootloader manually the phone entirely rebooted since the evo lte is kind of a pain to reboot into the bootloader.
Now it seems I am in a state of limbo as the phone actually has a recovery on it, but it is not rooted as i tried to use titanium backup. I have also tried to use the regawmod now that it works with version 22.13.651.1 but I can an unhandled exception error after pressing the root me button.
I assume something isnt playing nice with each other since my first attempt at rooting didnt go all the way through but did install the recovery. I actually tried to install the newest sprint update and it got stuck popping up the custom recovery. I think it would be best to revert back to completely stock and try again but i am not sure how to do so. appreciate any help!

I didnt realize that would actually work! When it popped up in recovery I could go to install from sdcard I just wasnt sure if there would be consequences doing so. So I could reboot into the bootloader, go into recovery and flash a rooted rom from there just like always and it would give me root? That would be awesome

The OTA update zip will flash just fine thru CWM recovery.
I moved the zip from /cache to the internal sdcard /rom folder. Then ran opened ROM manager, Install from Sd Card, reboot into recovery.
Install went fine, CWM showed no errors, root and custom recovery remained untouched. When the phone reboots the first time the OTA update system will fuss that the update failed but About Phone shows you are updated 4.5.145.
See fixed my own stuff....

is 4.5.145 worth the install? I made the mistake of searching for updates, now i keep getting the reminder, so its either update or turn the reminder off. I just dont want to lose my root/unlock/webtop2sd

The update changes the radio from 37p to 38p, giving a better signal, improved GPS with Maps (possibly overall GPS improvement), kernel version remains the same, however it appears to be a different build, and a few security updates. See images for status changes
Note: I did flash the 38p radio separately before cwm flashing the update. Upon update, go ahead and get into root explorer and delete the google preloaded apps that appear in play store so you can free up room in /system. Then update superuser binaries, and redownload google preloaded apps from play store.
