I would like some help from users having same issues. I bought my SGS II About 3 weeks ago... It was all working fine... stock KG7 not rooted. A few days ago it started doing some weird stuff... like random reboots during standby and freezing unable to turn on unless you take out the battery... tried to restore factory setting i installed the new LightningRom 6.1 and the issue is still there... is there a logging app that can save log before a crash? so i can see what is happening? Or is someone having the same issue as i am. Thank you very much for your time and help Cheers
PS. tried to format usb storage and still have same problem... so really don't know what is the problem...
I have finally found a solution... installed XXKH3 FW stock, not rooted yet, and installed an application from the android market called Load Monitor
Code:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.landak.loadmon
and enabled only Add Notifications, only notify high load, autostart and only screen on... seems to do the job, no battery drainage and most of all NO SOD (Sleep Of Death) or restarts anymore
Hope it helps someone
Cheers
Bump
Bump... Added VillianRom newest version still have the freeze on standby problem.. Apparently when no apps are running it just crashes and i can't turn it on only by going to CWM or odin... and reseting... Any help would be really appreciated
Do you have a software installed called SetCPU?
No... only facebook, google+, Game Dev Story and Dragon Fly...
Faulty Hardware
Mine did the same; replacement phone is perfect.
Sadly it's not an option for me... i bought it used without warranty papers... it was cheaper... i may have stumbled on a solution... cleared Dalwin Cache and it seems to work good now... we will see in a few days how the situation progresses... i will keep you posted
Installed stock XWKF3 AND IT SEEMS to have fixed the prob. Left it overnight unplugged with wifi off and i had a 1% drain of battery for over 8 hours :-D very sattisfied. Installed standard apps now so.i`ll see how it goes. Keep you posted.

Had to turn on Wake Lock. That means my phone doesn't go to deep sleep anytime. Tried a bunch of roms and all the same result. Tried setcpu configs of all kinds and nothing still. Still get freeze up and insane battery drain durring deep sleep. What helps is flashing syah kernel an putting min cpu freq to 100 that way not that much battery drain.
Any1 have an idea what to do?

i also have the same problem on my gt-9100T and still it is still happening. first time it happened when i uninstalled social hubs. at that time i was running lite'ning rom v6.1 and only used the phone for 1 month. then the freeze/ sleep of death occur.
i have tried flashing to stock rom/modem/kernel from intratech thread to no avail.
some people can fix the prob by cleaning the battery contact point. some by cleaning the mini usb port. still no luck for me.
right now running on criskelo latest build (KL1 2.3.6)with T-KL1 modem, siyah .9+ and the problem still persist.
so, installed load monitor and u/v and set the min freq to 100Mhz to preserve battery but still can only last 12hours even unused.load monitor seems to use a lot of juice. very frustrating. i need to tick the wakelock option otherwise SOD right after the screen is off.
I am still hoping someone/anyone who might have the solution the share with us all.
is it a good idea to format /system + /emmc + everything? i have done full wipe, still no good.

I've tried literally everything I can think of. Done so many full wipes etc but the issue will not go away.

so far no problem

Do you mean Delvik Cache?
Thanks, i'll give it a try :good:
searched, no find.
I have two consistent issues.
1 - When retrieving sites requiring a login, or when logging into LastPass, if I can get to the "Processing..." popup, it will hang and sit. Sometimes it will complete Processing... after a couple minutes, and sometimes it will continue until I kill the app. This issue is frequent, so restarting the app is not an acceptable workaround.
2 - When loading a page it will often do the same but without a popup. It will take forever to load, sometimes not at all. Occasionally I can reload the page and it will work, occasionally it will not load at until I reboot the phone or something.
these issues seem to occur frequently on home wifi. my PC, also on wifi, will load from these servers instantly.
i have had the issue on the following:
stock
Unnamed latest
Shostock latest
entropy dd latest, and last two
siyah latest and previous
with/without overclocking
with/without data enabled
affects all browsers, lastpass, tapatalk, xda premium, etc, etc.
caches cleared, including dalvik
no stress on the phone, running usually 250-500MB RAM only.
any ideas? the phone is basically unusable as a smartphone at home. the issues may or may not be as bad on regular data. TIA.
one more try... anyone help with this issue?
You state that this is mostly happening on your home Wi-Fi connection; is it possible that you have some sort of QoS / traffic shaping setup on your wireless AP / router that may be resulting in this condition? Also, do you have any of this type of behavior on cellular 3G or other Wi-FI connected networks?

thanks for the reply.
the issue is inconsistent even at home. i have been watching for causal conditions but not finding anything yet. it does not appear to be my wifi. no other devices have ever had any kind of problem, and there have been many (i share the my wpa2 wifi with neighbors as well, many smartphones, etc). yes, the issue frequently affects me off wifi on data. and yes, it occurs at my office wifi as well. but the intermittent nature makes me think it's something with the phone's software, which is why i'm focused on figuring this out here. when it rains it pours, and i will have to reboot the phone, not just kill my browser or other app, in order to connect. sometimes rebooting more than once is required.
Have you tried a 'wipe data / factory reset' in ClockworkMod Recovery?
yes, i did actually. the issue is happening even loading basic google searches out on H+. the page will usually load, but will take literally 3+ minutes to load it. i'm not sure what's going on but it seems there's something going on between me and the servers that is hanging my data retrieval. i'm mystified. but the phone is literally stuck on page loads & data retrieval about 70% of the time. i don't have any weird software running in the bg either. pretty basic Entropy DD (tried the last 2) and ShoStock latest. is it possible there is some hidden settings somewhere i can look at? i have scoured all available settings on the phone, but there's gotta be something deeper i can look at. any recommended system tweak apps for this?

ok, mine is a refurb, but has not appeared to have even a single hardware issue. guess i'll continue to cycle new software and see if this eventually irons out. next step is to get more into the system settings and investigate. my initial guess is my phone is sending repeated requests in the background.
if anyone is interested, i may have found the problem. i'm no networking guru, but i changed my phone's DNS settings to OpenDNS's servers like my home router's config. previously my phone was using Google's DNS servers. after changing the phone to OpenDNS loads are consistent and snappy like every other box in the house. keeping an eye, but so far so good.

Anybody offer a clue as to why this might be happening?

no idea mate it shouldn't do as i have mine set to never and it stays like that, have you been flashing ROM's or anything like that maybe that could explain it!
No, not really.
The only thing I've done is rooted it. Apart from that, It's still got stock Samsung Rom on it.
Just checked again, and even tried setting it to "only when plugged in, but after 15 mins or so, it's back to "always" again.

For anyone else who might come across the same issue.
After doing a factory reset, and putting apps back on one at a time, I found out it was DoubleTwist Airsync, that was changing the "WIFI sleep" option.
Apparently, the developer knows this, but wants it to work that way.
So it's now gone for me
But you won't lose too much battery on an 7 hr sleep with the always on setting.
I go to sleep with my S3 on 98% and wake up with 92-94% battery left even with received messages from 3 email accounts and other notifications.

I keep mine on always. I lose 3% during an 8hr sleep and it'll automatically connect to my carrier data when my network is not in range. Sure beats turning it off and on a handful times a day.
Weird is that WiFi is active in either option you shoose during sleep. Even if you choose NEVER, open your battery use stats and you'll see that WiFi was active all the time during sleep. I cannot understand why is this issue so underrated here on XDA forums. Or is it some kind of misinterpreting from my side???

Yup afaik, choosing never will produce a wakelock to check the phone state and keeping it on will cause it to constantly scan even if connected to a network. Both choices will eat up battery.
I see many threads suggesting to just manually turn it off, preventing scanning, wakelocks and syncing all together.

Hello all,
I am more than happy with my SIII but I'm finding a wakelock rather disturbing. It happens as soon as i turn on the "Use wireless networks" under the Location services settings.
If it's turned off, the wakelock disappears. But you know, it's hard to live with it turned off, as it greatly helps the GPS set a location way faster than it would do on its own... So using location based apps while it's off is a pain in the ass.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Nothing can be done about it really. Applications poll location data constantly when this option is ticked. It even tells you data is collected in the background regardless of what you are doing. To be honest many can cope with the 5-10 second wait for a GPS fix. Either deal with the drain or disable it.
5-10 seconds?? Most of the time I get message saying current location is temporarily unavailable, especially when I'm indoors.
I can't believe I have to deal with this problem. Am I the only one with this problem?? I was expecting a better answer.
just deactivate it. if you use a gps-app it will tell you to activate GPS anyways and while doing that you can then activate the network location as well.
with lbe privacy guard you can Block it if you are rooted

So basically there's no proper fix for this. All I can do is work around the issue? Coming from an iphone I feel this is a bit frustrating.
Thing is that the option I have to disable does not use GPS. It uses mobile signal and WiFi radios, so turning off GPS is useless.
Can anybody else help?
disable Google now,I think you will find that is what is polling your location

coming from iPhone then you should know that the 4S had a similar problem when it came out, and the workaround was about the same...how you felt back then??

how do you check if you have partial wakelock on an iphone btw??
Disable location in general and use Tasker or make a profile on AOSP rom to turn on location service when you're going out. After all you don't need location indoors right?

Well, in theory, your solution sounds awesome. But as i stated earlier, there's a small problem: battery drain is not caused by the GPS itself, but by the other "tricks" the phone has in order to find a location (wifi and radio).
I don't know about that problem with the 4S, but as you said, it occurred when it came out. The SIII has been out for 6 months now, and there's been several updates, yet the issue is still there.
BTW, i check the partial wakelocks with Better Battery Stats (you can find it for free here on the forums)
Just a general question... Does anyone else have this issue? If any of you guys do, then i'll learn to live with it, but being the only one would really make me feel silly.
Well, I just don't use that option, AFAIK the new cm10 build changed the GPS so that it no longer favor the North America but search for the nearest satellite instead. I notice this change already make my gps quick enough so I don't bother..

I have the same problem. The only solution I found was to disable networks location. Is there any app to identify clearly what is the app that it's requesting location from Google services? It is not maps because with 3g watchdog installed it reports separated (maps and Google services) the leak is on Google services.
Ps: I have found that this problem only exists when connected to a WiFi network. On 3g the requests are less intensive.

Well I've just been doing some investigating with Better Battery Stats to find out why my battery was so bad with JB compared to ICS, then googled the NetworkLocationLocator as that seems to be the problem which brought me here (I'm a member anyway).
I must say it's pretty disappointing that this problem is occurring because surely the same option was being used in ICS and it never drained my battery back then. The only thing I can think of is Google Now has something to do with this. I have Google Now disabled anyway as (although it's a brilliant feature) it doesn't really benefit me as I don't travel around much, but I get the feeling that is the root of this problem because that's the biggest change in coming from ICS to JB (other than cosmetics and UI) right?
This is not even a problem.
People tick all kind of options or fail to go to see their apps properly starting from Facebook, Google+ , Google now, weather apps... And then complain how come they get excessive polling.
Problem lies in those same people wanting those services to record their location , but don't want any battery drain... At least case with all those around me that asked.
Trust me without WiFi and network triangulation the same services when allowed waste way more power using real GPS.

Thanks for the sweeping generalisation but I had the exact same option ticked in ICS and it was never a problem. Fact is in JB it causes a problem for some reason. It may be Google Now, who knows, but one things for sure, I should be able to have that option ticked and not have it keep my phone awake all night.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Maybe I misunderstood. Sorry.
I use Google now and maps for network location as well as fancy widget polling every 2 hours. All other apps I individually where permitted set to off.
This setup does not keep my phone all night. I see where it wakes the phone in intervals and does its thing and goes back to sleep. Combined with my exchange email polling every hour overnight, I don't see any excessive battery usage compared to what I had with ICS.

Turn of location history, leave the rest on. Wakelock is still there but less.
I started this topic because of battery drain in the OxygenOS rom. As you see in my post of 2804, 8:48 pm the phone drains the battery by 31 % a day when idling at one physical location. I'm trying to find out the root cause and solve this. When using the phone a lot i get a 4-5 hour SOT, but when idling .... nothing that impressive. At first i expected the mobile radio active bug to be the cause, but now that's solved (by upgrading to OOS2.2.1-x) i'm wondering again what's causing this.
Solved: Mobile Radio Active bug
Old post: I'm back from CM13.x using OOS 2.2.1 for a few days now. It's by no doubt a fine manufacturer rom. But I think it has the Mobile Radio Active bug, at least on my phone. When i reverted from CM13 i formatted all partitions for a real clean flash, than downloaded this rom from pc via twrp and installed it (not wiping cache or dalvik) and restarted. Below images show my battery menu. I used the screen a lot, otherwise it would have been still lower in the rank. Does anyone else have this on OOS 2.2.1?
yes, it will be on every 5.1.1 rom, as i know it was fixed in marshmallow
Try wipe cache and dalvik cache

I did (wiped cache, the only option the stock recovery gave). It will take a day or some to verify it it's over. But, do you have this Mobile Radio Active?
After wiping cache in stock recovery I recharged the battery and confirmed it's not yet solved. (see attached images). The idle power consumption is still to high i believe.
I'll now do a factory reset and check.
Does anyone else have this? How is your idle power consumption compared to mine?

The factory reset doesn't resolve this. Isn't there really anyone else on OOS2.2.1 with this issue??
I can thankfully say I do not have this issue and I am also on OOS 2.2.1.
I've now factory resetted my OPX OOS 2.2.1 and installed a 2nd sim (oops 2 changes at once...). Now I have a lot shorter Mobile Radio Active times. However the battery drain in idle didn't decrease at all. Because it's so high I keep posting screenshots in the hope it grabs more attention. It's mostly the android system causing this, I've barely any app installed. :crying:
I am not sure. I think its not a bug. Its because your network is not very good so the mobile radio is searching for network which leads to battery drain.

There is no solution for this. One thing which is consistent with this is that it happens over mobile data, does not happen over Wi-Fi. This is bug from google play services. I have used almost all ROMs and all have the same issue. And it's not only limited to our device. Search on Google and you will know. Fixes are just hit and trial nothing as permanent fix.
Solved: mobile radio active bug
I upgraded to OOS 2.2.1-x ... and the Mobile radio active bug is gone!
The battery drain not at all, however. Therefore I'm renaming this toppic, and keeping it alive.
I was expecting the mobile radio to cause the battery drain, but... see the attachements.
And in the second picture you see that the cellular network signal is not too good, however in all the attachments, right top you see the HSDPA connection is not that bad. The phone has always been at the same place, these two days.
I left only Bluetooth opened overnight (about 7 hours) and battery was done by 25%. I wanted to test xiaomi mi band during sleep. Is it normal? I am running 2.2.1 oos
Strangely enough the Bluetooth computation was shown as 1% while 15% was the GPS consumption. As I said I am pretty sure I left GPS off, as never need it.

At home i don't have 4G reception, but i do have 3G reception. So I set the prefered network type to 3G, but this didn't help.
I'll keep you informed.
"Google play services " drains happened on many occasions on many devices.
You could try to go to wipe data application of "google service framework" "google play store", Google play services"
On the last one, you can try to uninstall updates desactivate and reactivate.
For some, switching primary google account worked.
What is synchronized in your google account ? Did auto-back up is ON?
Some had to use a root app to stop this behaviour.
PS : 2.2.1-x don't change anything about that.

Thanks for the tips. I did the wipe data of the 3 apps, and next days will show if it worked. (Else I can try the uninstall re-install. )
