MMS on stock app for Cricket (ICS)(tutorial--testing) - Motorola Droid RAZR

Ok..was playing around with apns on my phone today. I was able to receive but not send. I'm now able to receive and send on the stock app for messaging on ICS.
THIS IS FOR STOCK ROM BUT LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS ON CUSTOM ROMS OR JB. I'm currently using 4.0.4 while i did this on a stock ROM.
So here is what you need to
1. Dial ##program & then enter the spc(all zero)
2. Go to the apn control then select apn config edit.
3. Then select the apn called ALU TEST SIM INTERNET.
4.you don't need to change all the other settings just do this.
MMSC=http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
MMS PROXY = wap.mycricket.com
MMS PORT =8080
5. Press menu then save. Now restart phone.
You should now have working (send/receive) mms on the stock Android app for ICS.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU ON JB OR CUSTOM ROMS. THIS IS ON THE STOCK ROM.
Also found out editing the ALU CBS apn with the same above helps also.

what is apns? I'm looking to do this same thing with google voice?

APN is what allows you to connect to the network. it connects the MMS for you. Someone else might have a better explanation but thats mine..lol.

It would be awesome if this can be figured out... since Verizon has locked out GSM, I can't use my Straight Talk service anymore (sad, considering that most other phones would come with US unlocked) and I really don't want to pay over 100 bucks a month for Verizon...

Didn't know you could use gsm on the RAZR? I'm using the xt912 version. So far i know this works on atleast 4 different RAZR phones I've tested. 2 of mine and 2 people from the cricket store where my friends work. Both mine are on stock roms, 1 from the store was on stock and the other was on an Eclipse rom. Looks promising but I'm not Gunna count my chickens until i know for sure this is a good workaround.

It doesn't but it gives me a cheaper option than Verizon for service if I can't wrangle in my minute usage and keep it under 450 anytime... lol. I was just pointing out that if I had (insert almost any other Verizon 4G LTE phone here), I would be able to keep my 45 dollar StraightTalk plan and use one of their microSIM cards... Getting MMS working on Cricket on the RAZR would give me a slightly cheaper option than Verizon but more expensive than my StraightTalk was.

[Q] Does razr xt910 on work on at&t?

I started with a working iphone 4 on AT&T. Two weeks ago I went crazy and bought an AT&T Galaxy S II off of ebay. I popped in my micro sim (using adapter) and it works great! I have constant hsdpa+ service even in some pretty rural areas!
In any case, I was having so much android fun that I decided to buy an unlocked Motorola XT910 to try it out. So far, not so good. Using the same sim that works in both my iphone and gs2 will not connect to AT&T's data network. I have 4-5 bars of signal, but I seen no letter network indicator (may be normal, I don't know) and network apps report 'no data connection found'.
So, is there some secret or trick I need to do to this XT910 to make it work with AT&T? I'm new to this forum and android in general, so please forgive me if I'm doing something totally stupid. Thanks!
The RAZR XT910 supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and W-CDMA 850/900/1900/2100 so it should work with AT&T...
Did you set the APN up correctly?
Razr XT910
You need to manually add the AT&T APN under network settings. Google APN settings for AT&T and it should work.
Make sure your APN settings is correct.

I will try that tonight when I get home and let you know how it works. Thanks!
You guys are great! I setup everything based on what I found on a google search and now everything is working great. The Razr is actually a little faster on HSPA+ than the Galaxy S2. The max speeds I got on speedtest.net are:
Galaxy S2: 3487 D/L 1129 U/L
Razr: 3909 D/L 1101 U/L
Thanks again!
Hey guys,
New member here looking to do the same as resotek and try to set up a droid razr for at&t.
Resotek, or anyone if you could help me out...after adding the APN settings for at&t does everything work meaning internet, pic messages, wifi, etc
Thanks in advance
I've never seen HSPA+ on my xt910, only HSPA with ATT. I have the standard wap.cingular apn. Is there something special you have to do with apn settings to get HSPA+?

I'm also getting an xt-910 and I just want to make sure I use the right apn settings. Will I use the ATT ptt settings, like for a Samsung Infuse or can I use the apn settings for a Samsung Skyrocket?? Looking at the bands the phone supports I think I need to use the same settings as the Infuse but I just want to check.

Thanks for the response about the sim card. I figured as much about a cutter, I just didn't want to buy a cutter for one sim. But it's not expensive so I may just spring for it haha
sigh ;(
bought the xt912 without realizing and now im searching and searching with no luck to unlock it...any one figure out if theres a way?

i dont think the verizon razr (xt912) will work but the global one (xt910) should be good to go.
For the xt910 you just put in the ATT APN settings and your good
I'm on the Att network and mine (xt910) is working fine, works much better after I called Att and gave them the imei number?

Whats needs to be done to the phone before attempting to activate on PagePlus?
basically just filled out the account stuff here: http://www.pagepluscellular.com/Online Store/Activate.aspx
once that was done I had the activate phone thing come up and dial out with verizons horrid music..
But I bought mine used lil over a month ago, from cowboom for 150$. (might not be a great deal, but was with AT&T before, 2g towers locally = max of about 150MB used a month, and miserable lol)

You are using a Droid x2 on Page Plus Cellular? I've been looking to go prepaid but most prepaid networks that allow you to bring in other carrier's phones (the X2 is Verizon's) require that it be a GSM phone so you can use the new carriers SIM card. The X2 is a CDMA phone, and they don't make a GSM version. I'm curious how you got it working, because Verizon is driving me nuts and I'm looking to switch.
---------- Post added at 11:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:53 AM ----------
I did a ton of research on trying to bring my X2 to a prepaid network, and on all the networks I checked it couldn't be done. Then again I've never heard of Page Plus so maybe they can. I looked at Simple Mobile, Boost, and Straight Talk and they all require a GSM phone if you want to bring in your own.
page plus resell only verizon services. so cdma only.

No rom has broken wifi.
To get mms working you need a rom that's gsm only/based off the butterfly.
The sim error is a hardware issue. It has nothing to do with the rom your running or the fact that your using gsm.
And this is strictly a Verizon phone.

newsflash: this is a STRICTLY a vzw phone
because verizon made it (and most of its lte phones) "global" phones to support its customers who travel overseas, its possible to use on gsm networks....which is great and may gsm users pick up verizon devices now
this doesnt mean however, that everything is going to work perfectly for using the dna on other providers.....do not confuse this phone with an unlocked non-branded device....it was created as a verizon lte device
well i live on mexico and i use GSM... and i dont have any issue and my phone is a Verizon...
SIM errors can be fixed by putting a piece of scotch tape on the plastic (read: the side without the metal contacts) side of the SIM. This is a common issue in HTC phones with a SIM tray instead of a slot.
A extremely worthless thread...
My Droid DNA One
I had not heard that a piece of tape does the trick...interesting.

I just don't understand why someone would buy this phone, expecting to use it on a different carrier. Why not use a phone designed for that carrier's network? That's like buying a phone that is S-on and expecting S-off. You can hope it comes along, but to just expect it is unrealistic.
Yes, I get that the specs on this phone are/were a motivator, but it's not fair to the phone to get mad because you can't make the phone do something it was never advertised to do. And despite the claims to the contrary, some ROMs work just fine for what you're trying to do.

Okay, to this was a short-lived thread for a reason. But, since it's been revived I'll add that I bought a nice used DNA and I'm a T-Mo customer. Even stock, it worked great on T-Mo here. Granted, I don't live in a 4G T-Mo area anyway so I'm not missing the latest in high-speed data.... anyway, stock I was very pleased. The only thing which didn't work was the wifi hotspot.
Move forward a couple of weeks and now I'm running NOS M7 on it. Thanks to this great forum for the help with that. Wifi hotspot works great, the ROM is robust, and I couldn't be happier.
So, I'm not on Verizon. I'll be using this on T-Mo in the States and on a couple of foreign SIMs when traveling for work. And I love the DNA.

You wont get 4g though. You might get hspa+, maybe. However you will be getting screwed over because straight talks's gsm coverage is inferior to their cdma coverage.
I was just gonna start a thread on this topic. I'm using straight talk on my DNA right now. I get hspa+ or "at&t" 4g speeds. I was just talking with a Wal-Mart rep who told me, that 3 straight talk users here In Montana were terminated from straight talk because the SIM runs on AT&T network. In the fine print supposedly it's only supposed to use sprint, and Verizon networks. I guess AT&T caught these users using their towers.
I'm a little scared of getting terminated myself. But I don't want to pay Verizon high ass prices! I guess that new law will affect us after all.

Since I've bin back using my HTC DNA I've bin with ultra.me which is in new york, so far no problem. Honestly if you yourself has an account with them I wouldn't worry. But for myself I keep hearing about METRO PCS about unlocked phones & up too $100 REBATE , I think I might check that out. The subject of the story is that if you have a phone you like make sure it's unlocked & go to whoever you feel comfortable with bottom line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Walk through please?
To any of the posters that have the dna running on straight talk, I'd love a walk through on what needs to be done to get this to work. I'm giving my boyfriend my old dna, and he has straight talk service currently. He's really excited to get a phone that's a lot better than the one he's been using for the last three years, and I really want to pull this off for him but Im not sure what exactly I need to do. I think you just set the phone to global mode for gsm networks of on stock. If using a custom Rom, just download the gsm version.

Service is good as it runs on at&t. HSPA speeds can vary from 2-8 MB so for $45 a month you can't go wrong. If he uses a sense based ROM he will probably have to manually edit his APN which the Straight Talk website covers in detail. If its a stock android ROM for me it automatically configured my APN. I just put my ST Sim in the phone.

Answer to this question is yes, The HTC DNA Verizon is CDMA Capable as well as Global GSM. I had My HTC DNA Flashed to Verizon side of Straighttalk about 8 months ago, around thanksgivin. It is on the verizon side of striaghttlak, I get FAST 3G speeds, no 4g but I can live with that for $45 A month. Im not sure how or the policy of sharing links on this website/forum but here is the place who flashed my HTC DNA, And they also flashed 2 other model phones for me as well, they had pretty fair prices also...
The phone # to text to get this done is 231 327 2601 they have a website also but I cannot remember the link or name.
