I've been searching the forum but I cannot figure this out.
My International Galaxy Player 5:
Model: YP-G70
ROM: Stock XXKPL
Kernel: Rumirand's R14
Firmware: 2.3.6 Gingerbread
Launcher: Xperia S
Rooted: Yes
Inevitably, after the device being on for an hour or so, the camera starts malfunctioning. By that I mean it either doesn't load up completely (only black screen + status bar, in landscape mode on top of that) or I take one pic and then the touch screen doesn't respond, requiring a hard boot.
Also, after being powered on for an hour or longer (seems to be a trend here), the device won't wake up or respond, forcing me to hard boot it.
The SD Card reader also randomly convinces itself that by some odd chance that the SD card has been unexpectedly removed, forcing me to hard boot it.
I should also note that I've noticed when the camera is having it's fit, misbehaving, so too does PowerAmp; it won't launch either.
Most of these issues are more frequent, if not caused by, with the Xperia S launcher.
Now my question to you is...why? Why all of these problems?
That's weird. Are those problems of yours disappear afterwards? I sometimes have problems with the camera, but after awhile it disappears, or appears after several weeks or so.

These problems are very consistent, averaging 1.5 times a day actually. It's quite a hindrance to constantly have to reboot.
Oh! I forgot one other problem: sometimes, recently, when connecting my aux cable, PowerAmp won't auto-play like it usually does. No big deal but I'm just saying. All of these little problems really add up to an unhappy time!
Did this problems appear before or after you rooted and flashed custom kernel? You can try reinstalling stock fw, kernel and root, and see if that will help...

Well, I have the stock fw/ROM/Build of GINGERBREAD.XXKPL but I need to know what the stock kernel is. Also, are you advising to unroot the device as well? I can't tell.
Update: Okay so apparently the device is acting up quite a lot today! While listening to music with PowerAmp through Aux the device wouldn't respond to waking the screen at all. Yet, it was playing music just fine. This tells me that it wasn't accepting any input but could output just fine. I wonder what causes this..Right now in the past 1 hour it has needed me to hard boot it 3 times!
What could be the problem?
Im suggesting you to reinstall stock fw, then install rj14, and root.. but before that, have you tried going back to factory settings?

If by factory settings you mean "Factory Data Reset" in CWRecovery menu then yes. All the time with each new flash.
I was fairly certain I've been reinstalling the stock ROM but not sure about the kernel! I really would like to take this back to stock settings. I've tried by myself but maybe I'm locating the wrong ROM and stuff.
Would someone be so kind as to link me to the stock ROM and Kernel please? Thanks!

Thanks but that link is broken, it isn't pointing to any specific thread. Also, I know how to check my current kernel but I wasn't asking for that. Unless I'm misunderstanding of course. I'm actually looking for the stock kernel so I can download it.

By the way, has anyone ever heard of Xperia S Launcher causing any of my problems? Wondering if it's related or causing my grief.

Personally, I think you have bad hardware - consistent, unique problems even on stock. If you aren't overclocking, then the only thing that would force you to reboot that often is malfunctioning hardware.

Okay so KPL is YP-G70's Stock and not KPF? Thanks, I'm going to flash this with Odin and hope for the best!
Update: Flashed this ROM:
Firmware: 2.3.6
Kernel: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build: GINGERBREAD.XXKPL
So am I back on stock everything now?

I seriously believe it's a hardware issue as well. My samsung warrantee is still in effect and I might just use it. I will decide after even more stock rom and kernel testing. I assume I need to put the device back to stock settings to send to samsung lol.
Any update on issues?

I have been having the exact same problems you listed ever since I bought my device, (especially where the SD card randomly unmounts, which drives me absolutely CRAZY.) I was wondering if you ever found a solution to your problems?
Sidenote: I only experienced these problems when using the stock ROM. I started using CM9, and all the issues except for the unmounted SD card stopped occurring, (SD card unmount issue was way less frequent.) My device went haywire one day, so I had to flash a Stock kernel back onto the device, and all of the problems reappeared. Have you experienced the same frequency of issues using any other ROMs?

These problems never went away and I've set the device aside for now. I reinstalled stock ROM and kernel (I think), and am waiting for the problems to reoccur before shipping it off to samsung.
Honestly the best ROM for the device might have been Chip's. But its such a ugly ROM so I went to stock and wanted to monitor the device a bit further.

Thanks to the developer - @xplodwold - for getting this working on the Euro GS2. It can be flashed safely on an ATT GS2 and works quite well. I've literally done nothing here, just informing you all that it works and providing download link since I don't see another post.
What's Broken?

Everything , but it boots and you can get a good feel for the new OS we're patiently waiting for.
NOTE- this uses a euro gs2 kernel so your soft buttons won't work and you have to navigate recovery differently until you flash back to your daily ROM. Volume buttons control up and down and power button is used to select.
Enjoy

It would require a different kernel to work properly. Normal Gingerbread kernels won't work.
A proper port will use the same kernel base as ICS, which is either Linux 3.0 or 3.1 - the port here is based on a Gingerbread 2.6.35.7 kernel full of massive hackery.
Basically, they're spinning like crazy to get out a partially functional proof of concept, and will effectively have to nuke and repave once ICS officially comes out for the I9100.
I've done the "backlevel kernel hackery" deal once (xdandroid - 2.6.29 kernels for Froyo...), and I'm not doing it again.
I'm not going to mess with ICS until there's a proper I9100 ICS kernel source drop.
well i installed it, it was pretty cool, it ran smoothly outside of the fact that nothing with data or really anything worked, it was cool, i cant wait for a working version and the bottom buttons not working isnt a big deal cause you have the on screen keys
I'm waiting until it's stable, and the needless OS home/back keys can be removed. My softkeys work just fine.

hes meaning that he doesnt like the fact of the os keys. he like using his sofkeys and finds the os keys pointless. at least thats what i got out of his statement.
Softkeys = Software based key input
Hardware keys = hardware based
Your Hardware keys work just fine.

hello all,
i have followed entropy512's thread here to get my at&t samsung galaxy s2 rooted with stock settings...i then wanted clockworkmod recovery so i went to this and followed directions to get everything installed...everything was ok and working until a few weeks ago when the 'Check Update' option under Setting stopped working...
basically what happens is when i goto Settings-> Software Update->Check for updates->Hit OK (Check the AT&T server for new software update?) a dialog comes up that says 'Checking for software updates...' and nothing happens...i have left the phone over night with device management app checking for software updates... when this used to work, it took less than 1 minute to check...
finally, the only way for me to stop this is to go and force stop Device Manager under Applications->All, so before i restore the phone to factory, i was wondering if anyone knows what might be the issue here?
Thanks,
FI

OTA updates require factory recovery. I'm a bit hazy on the details but I believe CWM, in short, replaces that.
It might also be because you either turned off/uninstalled or inadvertently removed factory bloatware.

This. Amongst other things. If u insist on trying to eventually upgrade to whatever crap gets pushed out to us yer best bet is to do a full wipe to completely stock firmware.

Do you recall all the issues with UCKK6 Gingerbread? That was an AT&T release. The devs had to tear it apart to debug and try to fix it. Any build will have bugs in it. But generally, custom firmwares will have fewer bugs than AT&T firmware.

if my research that i conducted a while ago is right, then basically samsung has implemented a flash counter which increments each time you flash a custom, non-stock rom...it might also be applied to non-stock kernels/firmwares as well (im not too sure)...so to prevent the flash counter from ever incrementing, ill need to put the phone in download mode using the jig and continue from there...

This is wrong. It is only incremented when you use ODIN to flash nonstock items. CWM has no bearing on flash counters.

You have some bad information...but I have some good news for you.
The flash counter only counts the number of times you've flashed a custom kernel in download mode via Odin. Using CWM to flash anything can't touch the flash counter. Same goes for Mobile Odin. I've been rooted and flashing for months, I don't have a jig, and my counter is still at zero.

Any GB issues only surfaced if you updated to 2.3.6. 2.3.4 for a "stock" firmware was pretty awesome. I'm on the latest ICS leak from ATT (LD4) and aside from the emmc bug (I'm using a safe kernel so I don't have it) IMHO its more complete then CM9 was. I stopped using CM9 at the end of May and don't miss it at all now.

Hello all, I hope this is the right place to ask this, but I recently crossed over to Android devices from BB so I'm still trying to figure out my way around things. Today I flashed ICS Android version 4.0.3, kernel version 3.0.8-perf-i717uclc5-cl281649 and build number iml74k.144 onto my Note and the installation went fine, had no problems at all, but now I can't install apps from my web browser(Chrome) onto my Note like I could before the flash. USB debugging is on.
Is this something that I may have done wrong? Any help would be much appreciated.

You can't install apps using Chrome browser from your PC ?
Why not use the Market (play store) app that's already on your phone? You have to have a Gmail account set up on your phone to access the market.

This is not an issue... use the play market to get your apps.. not a PC... because you obviously don't know how.... what you explained is NOT an issue, its the wrong approach. Your fist mistake was downloading a rom from root wiki.. flash my rom.. Seraphim-Mesosphere, and be happy...

I've been using my browser to install apps on my phone since I got, it's just started having this issue since I flashed an ICS rom, so it's not that I don't know how to do it, because I do, this is an issue with the rom.
But I will take your advice instead of try to argue with you, can you link me to your rom?

The ROM you flashed is a very outdated leak that was known to be riddled with bugs and performance issues.

So I downloaded the Seraphim First Flight, but I have no idea how to flash it onto my device, I'm assuming you can't do it through Odin?
You better stop! There are so many instructions about rom flashing. Study up!
You can ruin your phone with the click of a button. You sound close to it.
It's really not that hard...
0. Download Rom of your choice to somewhere on your external SD card.
1. Use Odin to flash the latest version of i717 ClockWorkMod Recovery (aka "CWM" )
2. Boot into CWM (use 3-finger salute method to boot into recovery).
3. Clear cache/factory reset
4. Install Rom of your choice that you had saved to your external SD card.
5. Reboot and enjoy .
But yeah, if any/all of the above confuses you, then you REALLY need to spend many hours reading before you go any further.
As for roms, I recommend dman's (as already mentioned) or ICS Perfection -- both have lots of active support...
Good luck.
+1 listen to dman he is D-MAN. you cant go wrong with anything made by THE COLLECTIVE...... any Collective rom will set you straight, just read all instructables .

Him mentioning USB debugging immediately made me think he was speaking about side loading APKs.
If you're trying to install apps downloaded from sources other than the market, for future reference, you must check the "unknown sources" box under settings>security.

i was in 3.1.2, then i installed 3.1.3, then there goes the problem... then i decided to go back to to 3.1.2 then, the problem still occurs...
go stock, wipe it all up and then go back to custom. That's what I would do.
What kernel you are on? Have you tried other ROM? I am trying to help you narrow down the problem. If all software on your phone give you same problem, it most likely hardware related.

You must have changed something, try to recall what did you do during ROM change process. All problems are a result of change or series of changes. That's why we have Change Management in the managing of IT systems.

Anybody???
I will post a video of what it is doing.
I can access all: Download Mode & Recovery
But it's like no matter what rom i flash it freezes and crashes at startup causing a black screen.
I don't think this classifies as a hard brick cause it boots.
Anyone familiar with this and have a fix.

You're right its a soft brick , IMO i think it sounds like the 1.7 is causing the problem. Which stock are you using with Odin?

I'm using the june 2012 one from samfirmware.
try running with normal cpu clocks, 1512/384 and see if that helps
also, try booting without any external sd card, and, also, pull battery for 5 minutes and see if that helps
Fixed. Please lock and delete.
Excellent,
What did you find ?
