Thanks buddy for the shout out and a pleasure to help a buddy and great developer of scripts like this.
As you may know I'm lazy when it comes to flashing and this just does all the hard work for me
It's served me well for quite a while and just keeps on getting better as it evolves.
I don't know what I would do without them as I depend on them a lot and has helped me and many users. Thanks man and it's about time you came home and officially set up shop so you can get all the thanks and appreciation you truelly deserve.
And it don't end here you have a pool of great scripts such as the kernel clean, preload back up and restore and many others.
I vote hawkerpaul for recognised contributer status right now
This pictures for you mate.

Not fan of wipeing batterystats as its a myth. You just need to empty and charge your phone and it will be fine. I never wiped batterystats and everything is great regarding battery.

This is not done in the script for any battery benefits. Unless I save the file first (which isn't much point as a new ROM is about to be flashed after this script has finished) this is unavoidable, as battery stats is stored in /data/system/batterystats.bin and this will get removed in the format of the /data partition (as it would also via a standard factory reset)

I thought battery stats doesnt get erased until you go to recovery and wipe it.
And for batterystats, some of them wipe it because they think it will calibrate battery, but it wont, charging battery calibrates it. And in changelog it says batterystats wipe, thats why i said. Sorry for misunderstanding.

Been having a few problems with my ROM, due mainly to my laziness as i have been on a number of ROMs recently and have just installed over the top.
I used the GS2ROMNuke script and in one go cleared all of the areas of my phone used by the ROM. Reinstalled and since then everything running really smoothly and no problems at all.
True it is possible to do all of this without the scripts but not as easily or quickly.
Thanks Hawker really great Script.

I really like your scripts in S2.
and really need then in S3!

Re: [CWM UTIL] ROM Wipe/Nuke Scripts
Hawk pal of mine. I love the updated op with full good descriptions of how to customise the wipes even more. So now there will be so many variations of the user defined text files.
Perhaps we could do a share of the edited texts now you made this feature possible.
That is possible right. So I could edit the text to include x, y and z and post it here with what areas I've included so others if they choose could use it and just place the text file in the backup folder.
Any one made one for GS2 ROM Nuke they wish to share.

Open to suggestions as to what to clear mate.
You can put any file/folder in those user-definable files. So obviously you need to be absolutely sure that they are safe to remove.
Just remember the files need to be fully pathed (with forward "/" NOT backward "\" slashes) and one file per line. Eg.
/sdcard/.avg
/sdcard/.AllSharePlay
/storage/extSdCard/Alliance
/storage/extSdCard/.avg
If there are any frequent folders that seem to require cleaning, then I can also consider them to be included in the WIpe/Nuke script as standard.

Credits http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36648874

just messed my phone up. i wanted to install a new ROM and started by flashing GS2romwipe. i installed the ROM but got an error. I foolishly rebooted forgetting my rom has been wiped. Now i'm stuck on the kernel boot screen, can't access recovery... pls someone help me.

You will need to reflash your original ROM, or restore your CWM backup.

i'm good now. thanks alot.

Thank you
Thank you very much for your excellent tools, help me a lot

Is this only good for SGS2 custom ROMs? Or can I use it on the LG Optimus G and SGS as well?

[ROM][2.3.6] CoZ ROM v3.1 Final! CWM (03/26/2012) You seriously haven't tried it?? ;)

CoZ ROM is:
Updated with the following:
03/26/2012 - CoZ ROM v3.1
Entropy's Daily Driver kernel (02/28/2012)
Init.d governor is ondemand
zipalign init.d script (newly installed apps get zipaligned)
A few other script tweaks
All added applications are updated.
Milocker app added.
Reverted to UCKH7 modem
Made some small changes to the ROM. Added smoothness and resolved the haptic issue. IE: No need to do a "wipe data/factory reset" if you lose haptic feedback upon install.
ICS Launcher has been removed! Sam from MobileTechVideo's pointed out an issue that turned out to be an ICS Launcher issue that has yet to be repaired in the app. Not a big deal, but I'd rather remove it until they fix it. You can always install it from the market if you want it.
This will be my last Gingerbread ROM until official ICS source is released for AT&T. Well, maybe. Depends on my workload at work which recently has been very heavy.
MobileTechVideo's review of CoZ ROM v3 is below. Thank you, Sam!
UPDATED to Android OS 2.3.6
Deodexed and Zipaligned
Rooted (Superuser, and Busybox added)
init.d support
UCKK6 modem
Entropy's Daily Driver kernel (12212011)
Added lidroid's 14 toggle mod in status bar drop down. Edited to give it more of an ICS look. QuickPanel Settings app in your Applications drawer so you can move/remove/add as you please.
Nexus Prime bootanimation
Extended Power Menu
WIFI connectivity should not be an issue thanks largely to Entropy512 for his awesome kernel!
Lock screen issue is resolved, but this was an Android issue to begin with that they resolved since 2.3.4
Apps Removed:
Amazon Kindle
All AT&T apps
Books
Buddies Now
City ID
Days
Genie Widget
Kobo
Mini Diary
Press Reader
Protips
Qik Lite
Terminal Emulator
Words With Friends
Yahoo Finance
YPmobile
Zinio
and all of the HUB apps
Apps added:
Launcher Pro
BetterBatteryStats
CatLog
CPU Spy
Titanium Backup
ICS Launcher
SGS Secret Code app
Vlingo
BLN Control (free)
xda
Zedge
ICS Dialer
ICS contacts
General ICS themed, but not completely (see screenshots)
How to install:
1) Download Zip to your internal sd card
2) Boot into CWM. Go to post# 2 for instructions if needed
3) Highly recommended you go to "Mounts and Storage" and format /data
4) Go to "Install Zip from sdcard" then "choose Zip from sdcard".
5) Navigate to and install the ROM (it will wipe system, cache and davlik for you)
6) First boot can take several minutes
7) IMPORTANT:
When and if restoring data with Titanium Backup ONLY "Restore missing apps with data" and nothing else otherwise you may have issues like missing vibration and/or haptic feedback.

CoZ ROM v3... Still solid, light, simple, dark and stable.
Credit has to be given to the following talented people:
Entropy512 (for his kernel)
lidroid (for his toggle mod and general helpful nature)
gtg465x (for initially helping me with an extended menu issue before I learned how to build it correctly)
h8rift (for answering questions and wiliness to help)
Criskelo (for letting me use his toggle icons for CoZ v1 and v2)
Download Archive:
CWM Package download for CoZ ROM v3.1:
Go here to download: CoZ ROM v3.1
What good is a CWM package if you don't have CWM?
CWM = ClockWork Mod
Note: Your phone needs to be rooted for a non-Odin install. There are many threads in this forum on how to root so I won't get into it here.
Now you need to obtain a kernel that has CWM included. I recommend the latest kernel from Entropy512's thread located here.
You'll want to extract the zImage file out of the Zip and save it on your computer.
If you have the Android SDK installed and working on your computer then save the zImage in its tools directory and then type the following command from this location:
Code:
adb push zImage /sdcard/zImage
Otherwise you'll want to plugin your phone to your computers USB connection and paste the zImage file in the root of your internal SD Card.
Next you need to flash the kernel.
Via ADB (press Enter after each line):
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/zImage of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5
Via a Terminal Emulator installed on your phone (If you don't have one download "Android Terminal Emulator" from the Market and install it. It's free):
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/zImage of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5
Reboot.
Note that in the above two code examples when you type su you'll get a prompt to allow the "Superuser Request" if its the first time you invoke it from either program.
To boot into CWM in ADB type:
Code:
adb reboot recovery
Or, unplug your USB cable if plugged in, and press and hold vol UP + vol DOWN + Power buttons. Wait until it reboots and you see the Samsung Galaxy S II boot screen and release all 3 buttons. This should place you in your CWM menu.
Doing it this way should keep you from getting an exclamation point on your boot screen which is the main reason why I explained how to do this in this manner. If, by chance, you still get an exclamation point or already had one to begin with the only option I can think of is to use a jig. Not that a jig isn't a good thing to have anyways. Any ROM you flash from within CWM will not be added to your Custom Image count and will not produce the annoying exclamation point on the boot screen.
Absolutely first thing you want to do is boot into CWM.
As of this writing, press the Home button to choose an entry and press your Power button or the back button to go back to the previous screen.
Go to: backup and restore
Choose Backup
This will take a few minutes, but is well worth it. Now if you ever mess up your install you can always boot into CWM and restore the image you backed up. This, however, doesn't protect you from flashing bad bootloaders so word to the wise... DO NOT FLASH BOOTLOADERS!!! At this point and time there is no need to.
looks nice!
Thanks !!!
Good to see another dev joining the S II ranks. I can't wait to give this a go.
Thanks Coz, will try this one out. looks like the perfect theme to match the go launcher glass icons I always seem to come back to using.
Update: No issues with the rom yet, been running it all day. Only issue (not from the rom) is that I loose root if I change the kernel. I'm trying to use Zedomax OC kernel, but since root breaks I can't OC.

I have not tried the Zedomax kernel, but I'm not a fan of overclocking. I can say that I've been using my ROM for a while and for me, its always been as stable as can be. Definitely not saying that because it's my ROM. I appreciate you using it as your daily driver for now
Updated to include CWM install instructions.

CoZ ROM v2 has been posted and is available in the OP.
Cozmo1 I just have to say you have been really active with the updates. That's really awesome from what I noticed there is still not many developers on the AT&T SGS2 So I am really happy that your contributing so much, unlike me >_> Who can't develop Still Once I get home today I'm going to flash everything i can for some runs I'll pick my favorite and run with it for a bit. All of your stuff looks super tempting though.
I may have to give this a try later

Currently it does not have init.d support, but it'll be an easy thing to implement in the next release. I must admit I don't know why I haven't thought of implementing it already.

Considerations:
This ROM could not exist without the help of Crowds, alot of the original work was done by him and he deserves the recognition.
Carefully read all installation procedures in the 3rd post.
Check 2nd post for addons and contained apps list
I really REALLY hate the iPhone look of MIUI (not to mention iPhones) but i really do like the feel of Miui. The responsivness the way it all fits together. When i started using custom ROMs i used many. One of my favorites that i used before trying miui ROM`s was Wolfs ROM. Even though it is nice and fast, responsive, i just didn`t likke the stock base of it. And thats why i wasn`t really a fan of FXP.
Both of these guys deserve lots of respect for what they have done, because its awesome work, just not for me. Thats when i started trying out miui ROMs. After alot of time and effort i eventually found BlackEditionHD. Unfortunately Crowds has had to stop work on that amazing ROM. But as i enjoyed it so much I chose to start work on my own ROM. I asked Crowds for his help, and he gave some tools and info to help me carry on his work and create this..... The ROM I call DarkEditionHD
I have made this ROM by using FXP as a base, and porting Miui ontop. Giving you the benfits of both ROMs. The look and feel of Miui with the base work of FXP. The version of Miui has alot of ICS tweaks built into it. This ROM is my own, but the addons and patch files have been taken directly from Crowds` page. If they are yours please let me know and i will give you full credit.
My boot animation now works!!!

Installation Procedure:
Full instructions can be found Here
Note1: You must be on a Kernel with CWM5!!!
Note2: If you´re on a Rom with J´s or doom´s FXP kernel this should work, but not tested by me.
Note3: If you have any other kernel installed, make sure you have the correct WiFi modules. FXP Kernels do not need Wifi Modules.
Unlocked Bootloaders (Recommended):
Download ROM to your SDCARD - here
Unzip file and flash Kernel
Enter on CWM5 and wipe/factory reset
Install downloaded ROM
Reboot
Enjoy the new adventure
From here you´ll need to go to 2nd post to install other addons/patches/apps.
Locked Bootloaders:
I really dont think its a good idea, because of the new versions of FXP and such, but if your scared about unlocking your BootLoader...
Follow cobrato´s HOW-TO Here.
Reboot
Enjoy the new adventure
From here you´ll need to go to 2nd post to install other addons/patches/apps.

Excuse me, but that's android 2.3.7 based on FXP106 cm7.2 and miui 2.2.3 from n1 right?
Cause on the first post you write andriod 4.0.1 which would be icecreamsandwhich yet and that would mean you would have to use the 2.2.3 ns build and the fxp107 cm9.

oh ok...i`ll change my op then
It for sure is android 2.3.7, no doubt. I have been using this ROM for a very long time. In the first version of FXP-MIUI in about phone Crowds also said it was android 4.0.1 he later changed that himself to android 2.3.7 do to the fact that it's not completely android 4.0.1, but that the ROM contains parts of the framework and animations from 4.0.1.

very very intresting.
Good to see some real originality.
Bravo to the Dev.

If someone can help me find or create a kernel compatible with this rom would be very grateful
siyah doesn't work with this rom?

NO, lost wifi signal
which i9100 base are you using? try this and see if you can fix wifi issues.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22548941&postcount=456
Edit: Disregard. Stock base kernel needed.
Regards
I would love to test this for you and help out but I have a sgs2 I777.
Very nice bro! i'll try it, seem to be very good, could you post the issues of the rom?
Thanks

you could spend your edited files to probralo not quite understand this
thanks
cool rom you got there
so it's a stock rom tweaked to work with miui framework & miui apps
but is it possible to add miui extended settings to work with this framework?
What about the xCell kernel, is that working with this rom?
tested it. and overal i really like where this is going.
issues
1. crt animation is flipped upside down.
2. menu in the email app got wrong images (refesh & compose)
3. bit slow to unlock
4. cannot seem to sync notes with google task (maybe old version of miui notes?)
Interesting concept.
This should be in Original Android Development.
How about DK and XCELL?
i guess the closest thing for this will be Siyah, you could take a closer with codes...
For some reason the d/l isn't working for me atm.. does this use MIUI apps instead of stock, like MIUI SMS, dialer etc?
how about RTL Fix?
Thank you for this!!! This might finally solve the remaining MIUI issues. Miui for the GUI and SAMI for the drivers. Awesome! Keep going.
Personally I don't care about which kernel or tweaking. I simply would love to have a stable MIUI/SAMI ROM. Make it Bug Free and I will buy you a beer!!
So this is stock with miui framework?
Is that a stock camera I see there?
MHL works?
Only Problem is wifi doesnt work?
What about the h/w video? I take it that works?
Is only translated to Spanish or also English?
Is so and Wifi works then this will be the perfect Rom for me - Miui customisation with SGS2 camera

[KERNEL] Custom Kernel for YP-G1 USA + INTL (5/3/12) [UPDATE: R3]

Klin's Custom Kernel for YP-G1 USA and INTL
Latest Version: R3
This is a custom kernel that I made based off of STeVE's 3.0 sources. (He gave me permission to release this) I will be adding more features and continue to develop it. The sources are here: https://github.com/klin1344/Galaxy-Player-4.0-Kernel
Please be patient if there are problems as this is my first kernel and everything is still a learning process for me. (I'm completely new to Linux) Enjoy .
Disclamer: I will not be responsible if you brick your device or if any weird stuff happens.
R1 features:
- EXT4 support (See instructions in 2nd post on how to convert to EXT4)
- Insecure kernel (root in ADB)
- All features from STeVE's 3.0 kernel
R2 features:
- Improve touch screen responsiveness
- Custom bootanimation support; the kernel will look in both /data/local/ or /system/media/ for bootanims
- Netarchy/coolbho3ks SoD patch from Entropy512's source (allows you to use screen off profiles of under 800Mhz)
- Lots of tweaks and mods for overall performance and responsiveness
R3 features
- Ported ClockWorkMod 5.2.0.7 from semaphore kernel source for the I9000
- Raised FPS cap to 72
- Raised RAM from 341 MB to 352 MB
--Doing this would break HD video recording and taking photos while taking videos on the I9000, but our device has none of those features, so it shouldn't have any issues.
- More reliable and easier way of converting to EXT4 (see below) (thanks zaclimon for the advice)
How to install:
Check the PDA slot and flash the .tar in ODIN. Or if you're on Linux, extract the zImage from the .tar and flash with Heimdall.
All releases are here: http://www.mediafire.com/?m1bjqojv5ln6o
Thanks to:
- Entropy512 and rumirand for their kernel sources
- STeVE for his custom kernel and source
- Many kernel devs in other SGS and Nexus S forums for their kernel sources as well
- zaclimon for testing initial release and helping me with MD5 mismatch issues
How to convert to EXT4Instructions are for R3 only
1. Flash my kernel.
2. Make sure you have about 14 MB free space on /system.
3. Boot into CWM recovery and do a full nandroid backup.
4. Reboot, and from your computer go to the CWM backup directory on your sd card.
5. Change all the files from ".rfs.tar" to ".ext4.tar".
6. Open nandroid.md5 with a text editor and change all the ".rfs.tar" to ".ext4.tar". Save and close.
7. Eject the device from your computer FIRST. This step is crucial. Then disconnect from your player.
8. Reboot to CWM recovery and do a full restore.
Note: If you're using R5 of my KlassicROM then system is already EXT4.
Thanks to zaclimon for advising me to eject from computer first
If you appreciate my work and want to encourage me to continue developing, don't post "thanks", just click it!
Reserved for future use.
Thanks for your continual development for this player with the custom kernel. Is the CWM the same version from Steve's kernel, or have you put in a newer version?
Regarding your new rom release, I'm always reluctant to change things when they are working well. I hesitated (slightly) going from R3 to R4 and now I'm doing the same thing going to R5.
Quite frankly, R4 works great for me but I'll probably change over to R5 soon enough. LOL Also, if I'm understanding your release notes correctly for R5, I can no longer replace sanim zip with my own boot anim in /system/media, is that correct?
Thanks again, klin.

Yes bootanimation is no longer supported, but thats an easy fix I will add to this kernel.

How long should the device stay at the boot animation after converting the filesystems? Mine has been sitting for more than 5 minutes. I'm on Klassic R5
EDIT: Didn't know R5 was already using EXT4 until I read the note at the top of the page. Change it to a larger font and make it bold so people can read it better.

It's a KERNEL not a ROM.
There is not screeshot. The kernel is the core of a linux architecture, the one that handle the drivers, the filesystem etc ...
The Rom is the "software" that is around the kernel with all the apps.
See the kernel and the rom as a onion, kernel as the centre and rom as the rest.
What is the benefit of EXT4?
Ext4 file system is much faster than Samsung's proprietary rfs filesystem. It is basically voodoo lagfix, except you have to manually convert instead of it doing it automatically.

Updated to r2.
Edit: oh yeah, some suggestions for a kernel name would be nice.

Hmm, how about "Klin's kool kernal"
Or "Klin's kustom kernal" might be better?
"Netarchy/coolbho3ks SoD patch from Entropy512's source"
What is that, btw? Nvm about that, just read about it in entropy512's thread.
One more thing: you said somewhere that you had ported a newer version of cwm than what is in Steve's rom, is that in here?

Thanks for the suggestions.
The CWM had too many problems than it was worth to sort everything out so I'll have to stick to steves cwm implementation for now.

Can I just flash this over the current kernel? (R1)
I'm on your r5 ROM.
And also, does this version fix the lagging issues in internet browsers and games?

Yes it is compatible with my ROMs. I'm not sure if it fixes the issues because I'm not using Klassic anymore so I can't test it. But I'm using rooted/deodexed stock with this kernel and it is pretty smooth.

Found a problem. If you are to flash r2 from stock and follow the steps you get suck and the logo. You have to flash r1 follow the steps and then r2.
Edit: On a side note I only see system and cache are the only ones that are converted to ext4. Is that supposed to happen?

Hey klin, can you post screenshots of the mounts like mine on the post above so I know I'm not alone? The app is Android system info. I feel bad for you cause it seems like i'm annoying you with problems

whats the difference between a ROM and a kernel

really appreciate your answers

What is a Kernel? The Kernel is the Foundation in which everything else builds upon in any software system.
[Car Analogy]: Kernel is like the Engine, Electrical system and the Transmission to a car. The Library, Framework and the Apps [AKA ROM] are the body frame and the rest of the Car.

In other words, you can sort of think of a ROM as your "version of the OS" on this phone, while the kernel is the thing that manages memory, tasks, etc and contains the drivers to the input/outputs. (This is probably highly inaccurate.) If you have options for, say, volume waking, changing the navigation bar, changing general OS settings, that's probably the ROM. Kernel changes are usually to subtly increase speed/reduce battery drain, but they can also be driver features like color control, vibration level, touch wake and so on.
A ROM comes with a default kernel when you flash it. However, the kernel can often be changed, by flashing a different one (the files just get overridden). Not all kernels are compatible with all ROMS/devices, so this does involve a bit of reading (and nandroid backuping, of course).
---
ROM literally stands for read-only memory, but I'm not sure this is true. I think the access is only limited by permissions, as root explorer seems to have access to everything. (Once again, I could be quite wrong.) The name probably comes from that the phone manufacturers intended for it to be read-only, since phones were originally intended to be far more locked-in than computers, for some reason.
ROM
(previously) During the production process, the whole operating system was written on ROM [Read Only Memory]
(now) They write it on a Flash-ROM [rewrite-able (Read Only) Memory]
In XDA or Android,
ROM stands for the whole packages, which the manufacturer otherwise write at manufacturing
Package includes:
-Operating System
-Kernel
- diverse Platforms (depending on) [Java is always for Android required]
-Applications
Kernel
Android is based on Linux or it just uses the Linux - Kernel
- the Word kernel comes from Linux and that means Core, because it comes from German Noun [Kern] {I speak German, so understandable for me ;-)}
- Kernel is a bridge between Hardware and Software, which manage the whole Calulating process

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
in XDA or Android Modifier
-try to modify the Kernel to accelerate the phone or to activate new/better function
Know-how
Flashing a new ROM/Kernel --> it means new/other version of firmware/Kernel onto your phone
custom ROM/Kernel --> a ROM/Kernel which was not developed manufacturer, it means someone else has modified/tuned/pimped/hacked a ROM
---Recommandable ROM is "CyanogenMod"
Stock ROM/Kernel --> a firmware/Kernel that comes from manufacturer or default/non-Modified ROM/Kernel

a kernel is the backbone of the rom
both have to be compatible with each other.
a kernel influences the battery usage of the rom, it also helps it to boot after flashing. a wrong kernel if flashed will make the phone get stuck at logo. a kernel will decide how safe it is to wipe/format your system or if some chips will be triggered to brick the emmc.
it determines root issues too. certain features of the rom will not work unless the kernel supports it like multiwindows in JB. the kernel decides if
your phone will support bootanimations. it will also decide from its nature if you can overclock your phone or undervolt it and to what extent.
custom kernels are released by highly knowledgeable developers and usually it is released in the forum set up for your device. All details of flashing etc are written in the OP. Feedback is given in following posts by those who have used it for reference of new users. usually kernels are paclaged in CWM zips which can be flashed from recovery. sometimes you may come across tar files that can be flashed with mobile or pc odin (depending upon device.

What ROM and Kernel to install. Confused
Hi Guys. Ive been reading through the forums here and there but im still confused on what rom and kernel do i need to flash on my Samsung galaxy s3 I9300 international version. I really dont want to mess up this phone thats why i wanted some help from the experts . Ive already rooted my phone and backup everything using titanium backup.
Baseband version : I9300DXELK1
Kernel : 3.0.31 stock
Build Number : I9300XXEMA2
Basically what i really wanted was to have a better battery life, ofcourse new themes/looks/feel, remove all the bloatwares, and hopefully to add items on my multiwindow would really be great. Im doubtful of what version of omega rom and siyah kernel to flash as ive read that they should harmonically match with each other not to mess up the phone. Your help would really be appreciated specially for noob like me

As for ROM i would say get Cyanogenmod 10/10.1
And for kernel - franco kernel
That's What i would say is awesome + safe
Or if you prefer paranoidandroid or aokp go for them , it is a matter of personal preference.
Franco kernel will help with battery life.

Guide to Installing Cyanogenmod 10.1 - Click

Hit the tanks button if i helped
Thanks Techmasta :good: i would give it a try. But is there anything that i need to look for like compatibilities? or are most of the kernels and roms compatible with my baseband/firmware. Thats what i am really afraid of before proceeding with flashing
Custom ROM on Stock Kernel
Thanks for the information!!
Will a custom rom work on Stock Kernel tooo????
Will it work smoothly????
