As you'd expect, this 10.1-inch Android 4.1 tablet features the same design language as its smartphone counterpart, but it's what's inside that really sells this device: a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core APQ8064 processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, a 10.1-inch 1,920 x 1,200 screen (with Mobile Bravia Engine 2), an 8.1-megapixel Exmor R camera, NFC, LTE (MDM9215M radio), microSD expansion and Sony's very own "S-Force" virtual surround sound technology. Amazingly, these are all packed tightly into a 6.9mm-thick, 495g-heavy body, and it's both waterproof and dustproof.

Yes. Details of the Sony's 2013 tablet, the Xperia Tablet Z (model C690X, codenamed Pollux), have leaked.

The Z will supposedly move up to a 10.1-inch 1080p display, and drop NVIDIA for a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro. The dust- and water-resistant tablet should pack 2GB of RAM and offer 32GB internal storage. It’s tipped to arrive running Jelly Bean, and may have a 6000mAh battery.

If sony also added pen input like the note 10.1 this would be the ultimate tablet. Probably will be shown at MWC in late february.

Yes ..... it needs something or else its just another android tablet ...Asus has the keyboard ....Samsung has the pen....Wonder what Sony has.

Are you joking? I've just bought the Xperia Tab S and now another, even better device?
Sour taste in my mouth I must admit, not overly happy, there's no way I could flog this device for anything close to the RRP and with this spec of a Tablet around the corner, Sony will quickly drop support for this 2012 device.

Are you Kidding me, Sony?! Now the xperia s is just about worthless in terms of support. Won't be seeing anything above 4.1. Only will just be updated to last years software, and then a new model comes out. Why would they even make the xperia s when they've obviously had the xperia Z in mind, if not even in the making for quite some time. Should at least have released them at the same time, like a big and small version of the same basic model..
Now I know how the Apple-boys felt, when iPad 4 was announced 3 months after iPad 3. Not very customer-friendly tactics..

Water and dust resistance? Folded design?

It's all about release date and price.
my xperia tablets still needs the hd screen so im interested.
if the pricing is right i might go for it but i'll doubt they will release it anytime soon.
if they wont unlock bootloaders for tab and xperia tab i'm wont stay with sony and might go for asus instead.
knowing sony they might wait till jul or nov and thats PS4 time
thats still to far off for me to sell my xperia and go with out till release date.:silly:
but looking at those specs and that sony should care to release a relevant piece of kit it should be more round march

Exactly my thoughts on this... They had how much, year and a half between the S1 and S2, now 6-7 months later theyll release the Tablet Z? And i really hate how there are super slow updates / no dev support / locked bootloaders / unrootable devices on sony :<

It's the same with the Xperia T Ubichinon, I bought that too in early December as Sony's flagship 2012 phone, not to my amusement, in early January they announce the Xperia Z, their flagship 2013 device that is twice as good as the T.
It's funny, I was just thinking what an awesome device this would've been with NFC and an HD screen and now this 'annoucnment'?
Given it's 10.1, storage space, HD screen, NFC and water/dust resistant, I'd say it would be around the £450 mark. I assume where talking the same IP55/57 as the Xperia Z.
I would buy if some sort of 'compensation' was given, either 20% off if you have the Xperia Tab & the accessories are still comp.

yes Samsung did copy...Sony does it better....ive never seen a point for water resistant

but.. I really dont care if they stop giving support to our Tablet S / Xperia S, but at least they have to unlock the bootloader .. so we can make our custom rom/kernel/whatever.. In XDA we will do it better than them anyway. :good:

This will apparently be built by Sony mobile whereas the rest were built by Sony. Bootloader should be unlockable

This is tablet is pretty much confirmed.
NTT Docomo is set to unveil the tablet in Japan on January 22. That would probably mean the international unveiling will be at MWC.

I am not sure this replaces the tablet S, the device seems to be more higher spec and will undoubtedly cost more, although if priced too high, it will be dead on arrival.

Pff, when i bought my x10 mini pro, 2 months later sony announces sk17 mini pro, now i bought my sony tablet s1 and announce xperia s and xperia z, i think my next device will be a nexus or samsung, sony are doing bad.
One important point are the x10 mini pro have unlocked bootloader, sony tablets no.
