Having 11GB available is normal, when we get sold a phone with 16GB internal memory that it total, what you see as 11GB is the data partition, there are many more which are needed for the phone to work, the system takes up some of the 16GB, so does cache and various other things.
You will only see 11GB available because of how the memory is partitioned.

Thanks for the fast answer...

From my 11gb, 3.5 GB are used from apps and 7gb are used from system.
So i have less than a GB left.
What is that 7gb of system usage?
How can I get rid of it?
thx, nearly

[Q] Internal Storage

HTC.com says that the Evo 3D has 4GB internal rom. My phone, however, shows .95GB free, 199MB used presently. Did I misunderstand? Is 3GB of that 4GB stated reserved for filesystem, rom/kernel, all that? And 1GB is the available application space?
Thanks!
It has 4GB ROM but only 1GB or RAM.

Oh I understand the 1GB of RAM. I mean space for applications..."Internal Storage" under SD & phone storage reads 0.95GB

I thought this phone was suppose to have 4GB of internal storage. Mine shows 1.05GB available. How were you able to see that you have 199mb used?
The phone has 4gb of internal storage but much of that is allocated to Android and the associated apps. There is ~ 1.1gig of space allocated to the partition where you can install applications.
Thanks, that's what I was looking for.
I believe I found the 199 available under the option to clear up space, on the first or second screen after clearing cache.

[Q] Mounting 16 GB internal storage on Windows/Linux

Question
SG S2 has 16GB of internal storage, how can I expose ALL of this to Windows or Linux? At the moment I am only able to see a 11.5GB partition. I need to be able to read(no writing necessary) all of the 16BG in order to perform data recovery.
Prelude
I had "USB storage damaged" problem on a stock handset. Where this message was showing up in notifications and internal storage could not be mounted. I had to format the internal storage in order to make it accessible again.
Since then I've been running various file recovery tools on internal storage by making it accessible to Windows through Settings > Wireless and network > USB utilities > Connect storage to PC. A lof of the data was successfully recovered using this method, but I had no luck recovering content of /sdcard/DCIM , which has family photos.
Problem is, Windows sees the drive as a 11.5 GB device. I understand that internal storage contains several partitions and only one of them is exposed to Windows. I need to run data recovery tools on ALL of the 16GB, how can this be done?
I would greatly appreciate any pointers or suggestions. Thank you.
If you had files on /sdcard, it would be on the 11.5GB partition.
It seems unlikely Android specific software would be better, but you could always give http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352515 a go.
@oinkylicious, thank you for the link, I'll give it a try.
I don't fully understand how internal storage is partitioned. How is 16 GB divided into different partitions? Camera pictures are stored on on /sdcard/DCIM , which partition would this be on?
Some data recovery tools are finding remains of two partitions, one FAT16 4 GB and one FAT32 12 GB, this seems to add up to 16 GB. I am assuming that because USB internal storage failed and had to be formatted, that all of the 16 GB were formatted.
Found how partitions are done on Galaxy S - http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Series#Partitions
but no luck finding similar info for S2.
The answer isn't hard to find.

OMG WTF I was conned. Where's my 16 GB??? I WANT IT NAO!
Answer:
Your device uses 500 MB of space for the actual system software, plus around 2GB for your applications and their data storage. There are other partitions used for other system functions, and these take up some of the remaining space.

Is there any way to mount this 2GB partition(apps+data) on Windows/Linux?

So it's normal that the Storage capacity that Windows shows me it's about 10 gb, thanks
This is true of all electronic devices nowadays (running any OS). They're advertised by the total flash storage, but the amount actually available to the user is reduced by the amount used by system and other partitions. It's annoying, but it's an advertising tool that everyone uses, so none of the manufacturers would get any benefit from being honest...
The previous posts are only partly correct. Honeycomb shares the 16GB between the internal memory and the 'SD-CARD'. If you install 1GB worth of apps (hard to do) your 'SD-CARDs' memory deminishes by 1GB. In the previous versions of Android, the partitions were fixed, meaning that if your predefined internal memory was full, you couldn't install anymore apps. Honeycomb overcomes this limitation by dynamically sharing the whole internal memory between internal storage and 'SD-CARD'. Additionally the system itself resides in this memory, deminishing it by the size of the OS.

Missing 1.5GB of Internal Storage

My sister's I9100M came with stock Bell/Virgin GB so this morning I flashed it with Resurrection Remix v2.6.1 and I seem to be missing roughly 1.5GB of internal storage space. Is there a way to get it? When I mount the phone in the computer, there's two partitions on the phone, but the 2nd partition cannot be accessed and says there's 0 bytes of space on it. The ROM itself has a 2GB partition, and the internal storage is given 11.5GB, so there's another 1.5GB or so missing.

That is normal. I have the same model and same rom and I'm getting the same internal storage space. I would advise just picking up an external sd card if space in an issue. I picked up a 16gig for 15 bucks at bestbuy/future shop. I believe Ice Cream Sandwich just simply takes up more space than Gingerbread with its system files and such. Anyways, to sum up...
1. Yes it's normal.
2. Go buy an external sd. Very affordable.
Is there a way to fix it? Would flashing official ICS + pit fix this?

There is no "fix", as it's not missing. It's reserved and used by the system.

Isn't the 2GB that I mentioned reserved for the system? On my i896, 2GB for ROM/System + 13GB internal storage makes up to roughly 16GB.

No. The 2gb partition should be for apps, the 11.5gb for user files (music, pictures, videos, etc). The remaining is for system use.
