Rooting with windows 8 - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Is there any possible way or anyone who can help make this happen? I've got a windwos 8 computer...and my God was that a mistake...nothing, even the wireless card built in, has been being nice to me on that thing...anyway, I don't think any root methods work on it, I tried the one from HTC site and no luck...

I think it's a driver issue with Win8 a lot of people are having issues unless they are using Win8 Pro

The driver issues are only if you have a new Windows 8 Device. If upgraded from 7 to 8 Pro, you should be able to root and use the drivers, if you had them installed in your previous version of Windows. (Unless you do a clean factory reset of the Windows 8 device when installing Windows 8 Pro. That just f**ks up everything that has to do with Android.)
So to answer OP's question, find a Win7, or hell I say it Vista computer and have a blast. Unless Microsoft wants to release a patch to this, then you're basically screwed if Windows 8 is the only option in your house/office.

I've searched the forums; I've lurked all throughout google and youtube. I can not find the solution. Will somebody out there please for the love of god help me. This is the 4th day I've tried to continue the process of flashing my phone to boost and I haven't even gotten past this very first step.
did you manually go through device manager and try to update the drivers?

How would that even work out ? The phone won't even register on the device manager without the drivers or having a microsd card which is just for accessing my micro sd data.

Try another download of the driver....It will ONLY work with Windows XP, I ran virtual pc on my Win 7 computer, load driver in virtual pc session and be sure you can access your usb port in virtual Pc. When I get home, If you need it I'll upload the driver I used.

Samsung Kies 2.3.3.12085_7_5 work with Windows 8 9200...:good:
I'm using windows 8 x64, I had no trouble installing the drivers.. I just put the phone in download mode and connected the usb cable and the drivers were automatically installed.

Hello all.
I too have Windows 8 RTM 9200 x64.
Kies 2.3.3.12085_7 INSTALLS fine, and the app RUNS fine.
Also, when I put the phone in download mode, Win8 DOES automatically find a device, but....
1. Kies can never find the phone (obviously not when in download, I mean in normal mode). Just keeps telling me to turn off debugging (which is not on!). Tells me: "Reconnect the device in Samsumg Kies (PC Studio) mode. Current connection mode not supported by Kies. Check USB settings."
2. Odin 1.85, 1.87 and 3.04 can never see the phone in download mode. Just nothing as if not connected.
For you guys who have it working in Win8, can you confirm that Kies can actually SEE the phone (running the app is the easy bit!), and that if you go into download mode, that Odin can see the device?
I can pass things thru on a virtual USB port to a Virtual Machine of Win7, but cant never actually get any functional use in (host) Win8.
Thanks.
EDIT: I downloaded Kies from Samsung page and it seems to be very slightly newer than mine, now version 2.3.3.12085_7_5. NOW, Odin CAN see the device in download mode which is what I really wanted for flashing purposes. Kies itself now no longer instantly complains about the USB setting, but iinstead just spins its wheel and never connects. But Kies stinks and never use it anyway, so not too fussed. Really just wanted Odin so that's cool.
Downloaded THIS Kies: http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as
Can you extract the USB Driver msi from the instllation and upload it here? Thanks!\
Edit:
Found it!
http://www.mediafire.com/?4y1a2opm8o3ihfx
Now my Note is back under my Windows 8 64x RTM!
Interesting!
Your mediafire download LOOKS like the same version that my Kies installed, but when I installed your version over my pre-existing one, now Kies can see my phone!
Excellent!
Thanks!
Hope this all helps someone else too.
I ran Windows 8 for exactly 2 days. I ain't gonna touch that with a 10ft pole ever again. Went back to Win7.
Lemme just tell ya: Windows 8 sucks big time. It's so bad it both sucks and blows at the same time.

Using a 4 year old Dell Latitude XT2 that originally came with Vista on it with a fresh install of Windows 8. Love the device. Multi touch screen works right away and all features work great. Having a blast with Windows 8. Just need the right hardware and it is a perfect operating system. Best of both worlds, tablet and laptop.
There's no need to install Kies to use the phone as mass storage.
Only if you want to flash things though Odin.
I'm using Windows 8 Pro 64bits and I can confirm this. :good:
Windows update Will do the job.
Connect the phone and then search on Windows update.

MTP drivers just wont install

The driver install fails on the HTC MTP driver install...I cannot get by this. I am running Windows 7 64 bit...anyone else having this issue?
OMG I fought with that for HOURS. I never did get them to work. I installed htc sync, htc sync manager, and I installed the all in one kit drivers.. Nothing. Windows 7 64 bit too.
I assume you are trying to unlock the bootloader and root?
Do both things manually using fast boot commands and recovery.
Tl;dr you can root without MTP drivers

exactly like me, I have been fighting with this for two days now. Reinstalling htc sync, htc sync manager, cleaning out existing drivers reinstalling again. Removing everything that could be associated with htc at all, reinstalling android sdk etc etc.
Nothing makes my phone recogniced by ´adb devices´not even htc sync software recognice it.
Every time I plug it in, the device is recogniced and installed and it says under Portable Devices in the device manager ´HTC One X+´
Do you get the Choose type of connection screen on your phone when connecting it? Because I dont, is just says connected in debug mode, even if debug development tools is turned of and debug of. But it still doesnt show up in adb.

No, not on this phone.. I think it has to do with the MTP crap. You can read an informative post by Lloir in the dev section to find out more.

hmm.
went back to the store and made them try connecting the phone to one of their laptops, if course everything worked perfectly there
So now im back trying to figure out what to do. Going to find the post you mention and see if I get any hints there.
Did you notice my post above where you I claimed you can root and unlock without the drivers?
What do you need to do that you need them?
Hi,
I am reading this, it is exactly what I recognize with my new One X+ too.
BUT I am not wanting to root or something. I'd like the Navigon software to recognize my device and download the maps like it did on my Desire HD.
Any more hints to how I can get this running ?
regards,
Ruud

Now, I don't know how the underlying hardware works but I'm fairly sure that if ADB and other USB functions work, fastboot should work as well. Any ideas?

ahhh...the famous code 43. The problem with this code is its pretty generic. It could be hardware or could be drivers. Basically what happens is Winblows is having an issue with the device that is connect, in this case your phone. Seen this one to many times. Try rebooting your computer first of all and try again. If you are still getting the try updating the HTC drivers for your phone. If you do this make sure to remove old drivers and then reinstall the new drivers. That should take care of the issue

It does seem to be my computer and not the phone thankfully (works on another PC). I am using Koush's universal drivers and they've previously worked. Something weird for sure in Win 8.1, I too went all night last night playing around, and then today, nothing. Same thing, if I open cmd and check adb devices it list's it fine, but I can't run any commands, it just says waiting for device.
Reboot and recognize. I do believe there is a fix in the international forums, going to have to pursue. Seems to me nothing really works right in 8.1 though.
I got it, if you have just updated or changed something you must go through and redo usb debugging, I changed from 4.3 ATT to Brightstar 4.3 Dev Edition, and had to go through the whole setup process, enable developer options, enable USB debugging and checked through cmd, adb devices, and viola, it's there again. Not sure if that helps you, but it did me I still stand that 8.1 is a PITA!
I have the same problem as you! I do not know what to do. Please help! Will it work if I install windows XP?
