Wanted to share this with folks, as I know a lot of you would like an early upgrade to the Note 2.
First, we are a business customer; that is my wife works for a large corporation that allows us some nice discounts on our service. We have 3 phone lines in our family, so we are not that big of a account personally..
I called CS today, and asked about an early upgrade. We are only in month 10 of our agreement, so I didn't think I had much chance. The first guy I spoke to was trying to get me to change my plan, and add a line, and do all other stuff, so he could "justify" upgrading me for $299.
I told him no, I didn't want to add a line, or do anything silly like that, and asked to speak to retention.
After being transferred, I politely told the gentleman that I wanted a $199 upgrade to a Note 2; I mentioned that Sprint and T-Mobile had promos for that price, and, I could sell our 3 phones on ebay, and make more than enough to pay the cancellation fees, but, I wasn't threatening to leave, nor did I want to leave, nor did I want 3 upgrades; just one for me.
He came back and said he could do the upgrade for 299, plus he would give me a 30 dollar credit for the next 6 months, effectively making the price 119!! (299-180=119).
I asked him to waive the activation fee, and he said he would give me another 36 dollar credit to take care of that, and, also, throw in 2 day shipping for free!
So, I should have my phone by Friday, and am excited to move to the note 2, especially at THAT price!!
My point is, it appears that now that Xmas has passed, they are more receptive to doing early upgrades for those of us that don't really qualify; also, being very polite, and nice to the agent probably helped me as well!
Thanks to all the great friends, dev's, and mods that I have made in this thread, and, a lot of you have already moved to the Note 2, and I am sure a lot more of you will be there soon as well. Hopefully, you can be as successful as I was in getting an early upgrade if that is what you so desire...See you on the other side soon!!

I LOVE that 2 tone look....acoustic modems FTW!!
Its true that there will always be a next big thing. The flashaholic in me wants a note 2 but att extended my upgrade time to 1 1/2 yrs when I upgraded to the note and I didn't upgrade early. So wait until Oct or pay full price. I'm sure they would be happy to let me pay full (overpriced) retail.

It is/was $125 .. I thought it ended the day before release day (24th) which was why some people were getting a phone ahead of time and returning it Friday for the Evo 3D

I like really like WP7 and for the most part the HTC Arrive. The things I missed about Android/my EVO were: screen/phone size, and app support for some of the apps I use quite often on Android. Other than that, WP7 is a great OS and the depth of integration is impressive. Yeah, I'm a huge phone modder but with no backup device (I'm 16, and am on my fathers plan) I'm kind of SOL. Hoping he paid for insurance on my phone but he might not have.

It's probably a bit late for you, but I have kept my last non-smart phone in "mothballs" (eg, with the battery removed) as an emergency backup, until I could get another smartphone. On Verizon, a user can switch phones 24/7 by just registering the phone OTA (the previous ESN is replaced).
I've only needed to do this once, but it at least keeps my phone # active.

The sgsII is almost too big itself, imo. The note is definitely too big for my taste, although a very nice phone. Rumored specs of the sgsIII have me waiting on it for sure.
i am def going to see what the note feels like in hand before i make the decision, but im split 60-40 toward the SGS3

The Note is a mini tablet. It even comes with a stylus. That should give you and idea if how ridiculously large it is. Good luck on your decision. I'd say just stick with whatever is best now and have fun. Worry about the future later.

Good advice. The only reason I'm thinking about it us because I want to keep the SGS2 for Dev work. I really want to start development in apps, rom's etc
Well, the best comment I've heard on the Note is whether or not you'd look like a douchebag holding it to your head talking on the phone, and I want to say the answer is yes which is why I will keep away (See picture below). As for the GSIII, it first has to get announced, which hasn't happened yet, and then it has to release internationally a few months later. Then a few months after that is when the US adopts it which is, I want to say, maybe near September or something so I want to say not worth it waiting for it.

But yes, cell phone contracts should switch to one year contracts, but that's probably never going to happen. Sounds most optimal, however.

Getting a tablet, once again the reason I'm looking forward is because I will use my Sgs2 stricktly for Dev work when I aquire the new phone. So I was asking opinions. As of now I'm 70-30 SGS3
now i know this is the photon section (my photon is still running like the beast it is) but i just ordered a kyocera echo!! (thanks ebay) now i wanted this phone cause 1. it's the most unique phone on the market, 2. it's discounted, so now i have a rare phone that is VERY hard to find 3. it's a new toy to play with until i go back to my photon
so here's my point to all this, do you guys have any opinions of the echo? or have you guys even heard of such a device??? lol, leave your comments, i'm interested

oh i know it's not the best, but when i use to work at my local sprint store, after the 2.3 update, it was a lot smoother, but i guess i'll see how it is when i get it, it's just something different i think, and it's a phone a lot of people don't have, so it'll turn heads to a point,lol, and for the price, i got this thing for $80, no bad i'd say for a mid ranged android phone with 2 screens, but i'll have this, my evo3d, THE MOPHO!!! still got my crap pre, and a moment
I played with it at my local sprint store and it seemed very...sluggish its a neat concept but that's about it with the pluses lol
Don't remember when it came out or when the update came out but it was a few months before the photon when I messed with it.
89 bucks you can't beat that though plus you could always Clist it for 100 if you ever need some cash lol

nope discontinued along with the EVO4g i'm afraid (my 1st smart phone) that's kinda why i'm happy to have one now just to fool around with seeing as it may be considered a "rare" phone now, even ebay barely has them listed

okay, hopefully i can explain this, say someone posted an item starting at $0.99
you make your 1st bid $90, up until it reaches $90 you are safe as the highest bidder
so it goes like this
Item $0.99
you bid $90
until someone else bids, you could possibly win the item for $0.99, but you have a $90 cushion
so someone bids $20
the highest bid is now $20, I.E. your cushioned bid and your still the highest bidder

like with my echo, started at $0.99, i bid $70.01 (to make it an even $80 with shipping) 5 other people bided on the phone but no one went higher then $70.01 so i won it at $70.01, but if someone went just one penny higher, i would have lost

but yea qsd 8650 was a massive battery hog to begin with, adding a second screen... the best thing they ever did for that phone was make it 3g only.

doesn't seem like there's much development for it, i barely found how to root the darn thing, but if i ever find cm7, i'll try it out, and when they updated to gingerbread, they optimized the phone so much for less battery drain
Lol I honestly don't understand how you can be excited to own one when you already have the Photon.
If it were your first smartphone purchase it would be understandable, but just because it's cheap and "rare" does not make it any better.
If you have young kids or a niece or a cousin, you should let them have it. I'm sure they'd be excited by it

Lol, not really, they all have Verizon and at&t, and I'm excited cause it's just something new, my photon is amazing, but I do get bored of it from time to time

He has had a little buyers remorse but he's still overall happy with it
Well, my 17 month old got mad at my phone because it wouldn't play his YouTube video .....so he threw it onto the tile floor. Needless to say, I now have 2 cracks that run diagonally across the screen. Its still useable, but I want to fix it. Anyone have an extra screen or broken phone they're willing to part with...or know a place I can get a replacement screen on the cheap? Also correct me if I'm wrong, but I should only need to replace the glass correct?

This is the exact same panel I purchased, one of the cheapest options I found. Most others I saw are $40-$50.
The one customer review on there does warn the panel they received had white softkeys; that sounds similar to the non-Verizon branded panels with only the HTC logo up in that top spot instead. Seen a couple of those on Developer handsets and for sale. Unfortunately, the review is silent on that logo matter. Red Sharpie can color softkeys, can't fix logo issue.
That said, my order from them looks perfectly stock, both logos and red softkeys.
Something to consider if you have the phone under contract and must keep it looking stock after repairs.
um i just got FREAKED OUT... i dropped my screen a month ago and my screen almost looks EXACTLY like that... i have an extra crack connected to the big two.... freaky
EDIT: i would take a pic but i dont have a camera and my droid x2 is on a rom without a working camera...

I think all those who don't have kids are thinking "Why the hell did you let them touch your phone?" and all of those people who have kids are going "Whew you got lucky I'm so glad the damage wasn't worse."

I dropped mine the other day from about breast pocket height, it hit the concrete, bounced and finally landed screen face down. When it was all said and done all that was damaged was a small scuff on the corner where it hit. That was my yearly allotted amount of luck I suppose.
Anyways, I really only commented to say thank you for your service Gunny. I did 10 U.S.Army, medically retired for combat related back injuries. Salute to you.

Well, my son is fascinated by all of our electronics....his first favorite toy was a USB cable. He has an old Eris that I gave him, but whenever he sees the opportunity to grab mine or my wife's phones or tablets, he does. Case in point, he actually just grabbed my electric razor, while I was holding him and posting this...

My parents always thought I was going to electrocute (yes, i spelled it wrong) myself before I was 5.
WHen I was about 4 years old, I was in the hospital to have my tonsils taken out.
My dad was a doctor and worked in that hospital so we knew everybody there.
While I was waiting to go in the operating room one of my dads buddies said "here little man, play with this for a while" and handed me some piece of surgical equipment (I have no idea what it was now years later).
I took it all apart and when they came to retrieve it nobody could figure out how to put it together again. I overheard one doc say "I didn't even know those things came apart"............
