XT910: Root problem rolling back to ICS from US XT912 JB OTA - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hi there. I'm hoping that one of you kind souls can help me get out of this mess I've got myself in!
I recently followed therazrguy's instructions to install the US JB OTA leak onto my UK XT910 Razr Maxx (previously running the latest GB/EU Retail 4.0.4):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2078021
A pre-requisite was to firstly root my 4.0.4 stock ROM, which I did successfully using the Pedro's EternityProject EasyRootICS method here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710871
I then made a back-up of my Customer ID (CID), as instructed by therazrguy.
I followed the remaining steps and successfully installed the US JB OTA leak (+ GSM patch, etc.) onto my XT910.
For various reasons (including hassles around having to reboot using BP Tools and not being able to connect to my PC using USB) I decided to revert back to ICS 4.0.4 until there is an official European JB release.
I tried to follow therazrguy's instructions to flash the ICS 4.0.4 fastboot files using rsd lite.
This worked successfully, but I noticed that I had lost root access (SU) which is required to restore my backup of the CID.
In an attempt to re-root my fresh ICS 4.0.4 installation, I tried to re-run EasyRootICS, but encountered the "su/superuser already exists" error.
Reb-booting the phone confirmed that the phone was not rooted.
I followed Pedro's recommendation and used the alternate root method "RootICS404 SuperUserFix" created by Dan Rosemberg:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/4adW6mS3/RootICS404_SuperUserFix.html?#
Unfortunately, this has not helped. Neither Pedro, nor Dans' solutions seem to give me the root access that I need to restore my backup of the CID.
So I'm caught between 2 worlds - I can't go fully back to ICS and I can't go forward to Jelly Bean, as I need root access for both.
Can anyone help me restore my root access?
Thanks so much!
T
EDIT: I managed to install SuperSU by re-running EasyRootICS another time. I got a bunch of error wierd messages after the 3rd reboot (see attached screenshot).

Now, when I open SuperSU, it tells me that I need to update the binaries, but then fails. RootChecker tells me that the phone is still not rooted. Any ideas of what to try next? Thanks!

Problem solved!
Solved it myself thanks! Installed SuperUser from the Play store and that got things moving with SuperSU.
I managed to root the phone, restore my CID and now I'm back to stock 4.0.4
Hope this helps someone else?

Man, I'll need JB on my system to try to root it. Unfortunally looks like you're stuck on JB 'till a new root solution or the RSD lite version comes out.
Sorry.

if you Answer are NO
and YES
this is the way to do it follow this link and you need a PC and your phone attached to it by USB:
"http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/motosupport/source/SoftwareUpdateSummary.asp?country=USA&language=ENS&web_page_name=SUPPORT&strCarrierId=ATT&strPhone=Motorola%20ATRIX%28TM%29%204G&strCable=Micro%20USB%20Data%20Cable&strURL=https://rsddownload.motorola.com/download/SoftwareUpdateforATTATRIX4Gversion.4.5.91.pdf"
I believe i just rooted it with gingerbreak but then i followed this tutorial: http://atrix4ghacks.com/atrix-4g-hacks/how-to-enable-webtop-without-laptopusb-dock/
it edited my webtop stuff so how do i fix it so i can update
lol don't panic! (....I have a towel =D)
You just entered the recovery menu. To see the error message, you need to un-hide it by touching the screen on the bottom right corner (right above the search button). This will show you what error you encountered.
If you're OTAing up, then you probably had Titanium or something that removed bloatware or modded the system with a theme or custom files. If that's the case, any OTA will fail because you will not have passed the pre-install check. You have three options:
1.) Go here and get the Automated Upgrade for PC Users. That will allow you to upgrade and bypass the test, while also keeping your data. This doesn't require any mods or unlocked bootloaders. (BE WARNED THAT IF YOU USE THIS, YOUR BOOTLOADER WILL BE BLOWN. DON'T DOWNGRADE WITH SBFs AND STICK TO EATING YOUR FRUITCAKE! However, Radio and Bootloader SBFs are still considered safe. As any wise man would do, proceed with caution.)
OR
2.) Unlock your bootloader, install CWM from Tenfar, and then get KP's 2.3.4 ROM Beta 4 and put it in your SD card. Boot up CWM and install it. That easy. =] (BE WARNED SOME PEOPLE BRICKED THIS WAY.)
ORRRRRR
3.) Using the fastboot from Motorola and unlocking your bootloader, just flash the images here. (Currently the best method and seems to produce the best results, but if you don't know how to do it, then don't do it.)
If you need instructions on how to do any of the above, use this noob bible. And lastly, if you want to root, use the preinstall method (also in bible.)
Happy upgrading!
~jojojohnson7410~
I had the same problem and also had only used gingerbreak and webtop mod. I tried using pc update software but it thought I was on orange france (mine is AT&T) so I didn't proceed. Decided to flash the gingerbread plus pudding sbf in pudding thread, worked perfect and kept all data, you don't need to unlock bootloader before updating
Same problem
I'm having the exact same problem.
Except my bootloader is unlocked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

[Guide] ICS OTA Solution to Yellow Triangle

First, this is not an extensive guide.
Second, credit goes to -ViperBoy- for suggesting this to me on Twitter.
Here goes...
Disclaimer- This has only been tested with rooted .33 and I'm not responsible if you screw something up and/or iron jellyfish eat your junk. DO NOT RUN ICS OTA BEFORE ROOTING AGAIN AND RUNNING VOODOO ROOT KEEPER! This has not been tested with an unrooted ICS ROM being reverted back to .33 HC ROM.
Background- If you are getting the yellow triangle it is probably because you are rooted and have deleted a system app. Don't know why Asus counts bloat as system apps...but whatever.
Solution- go to Asus website and download the current version/region firmware. BE CAREFUL HERE (as of this writing the latest is .33 HC so you can still root it, but that may change). Unzip it and put the zip file into the root of the SD Card on you're TFP (the zip inside the zip... I'll elaborate more tomorrow to clarify. If you are confused here wait).
Then run it. This will un root you, but rest assured you can re root again before doing the jump to ICS. Now after restoring and rooting, Go to the market and get the voodoo root keeper app and run it. Then run the ICS ota and then restore root...profit.(I'll fix this all up tomorrow with links and such to make it pretty.)
Thanks again -ViperBoy- for taking one for the team!
Going to sleep now. Will come back to this tomorrow to clean up formatting and such. Tweet me if you have questions, it will alert my phone. @Techronico
I'm on unrooted ICS (went from rooted .33 -> ICS, forgot to use rootkeeper) and want to try this method to gain root. Will see...
How exactly do you "run it" again? I have the zip (from inside the zip) on the root of SD card and no idea what to do next.
Same here... If you're going to make a guide, please make it clear. This is ONE of the many ways that I've tried it, with no success!

You need a 2.3.6 nandroid. A moded rom will not allow you flash ICS later. I' not sure if you'll be able to setup ICS in a latam razr due diferent signatures.
Thanks

I don't think that will work, as you wil still be on 2.3.5 kernel, even with the nandroid. You will be on 2.3.6, and get your ICS installed, but BT will not work.
Is working for me! xD And i'm using CM9 GSM on my LATAM

Could you please tell us the exact steps you followed and what ROM versions did you use?
Also, could you tell what exact kernel version you have right now? (eg. "uname -a" output)
Thank you in advance.

Maybe you could connect your N10 to ddms and get the URL of the update file it's trying to load?
Sounds like it's already downloaded.... "restart and install", if rooted, look in /cache and copy out the .zip and the hash file as they will be deleted when installed.....
That's the 4.2 - JOP40C update everyone gets when get their devices... after that you will get one more to update to 4.2.1 - JOP40D
If i'm rooted, what's gonna happen if I install & restart?!
I don't know about the 4.2.1 update but when the first update installed I had to reinstall CWM and root again.
4.2.1 install broke root but I preserved my root with Voodoo OTA rootkeeper before getting the download. After the install was complete and I lost root, went into voodoo and restored root. Super easy. Everything still has access and all new apps that need root access get it.

I did the same thing without any issues. However, it did revert my TWRP recovery back to stock. I just went back into the bootloader, connected it to my PC and run "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.2.3-manta.img" to reflash back to the TWRP recovery. It was good to go!! :good:

Lost my root

i recently decided to install a new LP rom on my galaxy s2. i was previously running the unofficial cm12. but before wiping the whole phonei decided to do a little internal sd cleanup, which led me to deleting most files (some that were important). i then successfully installed the new rom without any problems. Once the phone booted up and i tried to run titanium backup to restore my data it didn't detect root on my phone. so i have lost root and need help getting it back. any ideas?
Previous rom: [ROM][5.0.2][I9100] CyanogenMod 12 by Lysergic Acid
Current rom: Resurrection Remix by varund7726
PS: i know i am a giant noob at this so save the instults pls
thank you

You didn't loose root, you just haven't activated it. You can do so by going to developer options and enable root access for apps and adb.

Your recovery version is too old. You need recovery version 6.0.4.7 and higher. Download newer CWM version here: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/i9100/
