Yes, don't know how. But yes. The phone is completely unlocked.

Not trying to derail the thread, but Chaotic, what are you using to overclock your GN2? Have you noticed any stability issues or any less battery life? I'm running the same rom and am thinking about OC-ing.
I have wondered the same thing if this phone is unlocked shouldn't we be able to flash .img files via fast boot like on gnex? I am sure the answer is no because someone would have mentioned it. But I have also wondered this as well.

Flash the Perseus kernel. It comes with STweaks (places it in your app drawer) and then you can bump the cpu up if you want to. I've had no probs running at 1.8
Isn't it located somewhere in the kernel like the boot ani?

Its in the param partition I believe. Been looking into altering it. No luck so far. Pretty sure its possible though

Hey all. I just wanted to say, that like many with this phone, I have locked and unlocked this phone more than my car, and flashed more than I can count.
I've been a little bummed. I love the overclocked kernel speeds but hate losing 4g. So I keep relocking the bootloader.
I run on a relocked alien 4g rom with some frozen apps. Still get the contacts storage fc tho.
Anyway, onto the meat of my post.
The kernel tweaks that other members of this forum made may actually benefit locked kernels as well. I put both lib files and the kickass file in the folders they belong and I noticed a 500-600 point in quadrant.
On stock kernel I was getting 2600-2900. Now I get 3200ish. Sadly with unlocked overclocked and tweaked kernel I was getting 4600. With better battery life. Funny.
Has anyone else tried this?

You know i have instructions for running skinny on the locked bootloader. It would be faster than alien and still have 4g. Ill be posting a locked only version soon as well

That happened to me when i was unlocked and flashed Rom with kernels in them. I reflashed the oc wifi kernel and problem solved. Maybe that helps

I have determined that the kernel tweaks on skinny rom seems to have no benefits. I dunno why.
Currently my phone on 45. 2. 5 w/relocked alien scores higher on quadrant than 45. 3. 7? w/skinny locked. With alien theme or without.

Just dropping a line mentioning it; the new kernel has the same battery life in my use. It does make things even a little bit more smoother and runs a touch cooler over the older ICS kernel, as the cpu is always scaling back and forth constantly.
Really REALLY need kernel source.....
My phone is also running cooler with the new kernel. I am also getting a stronger wi-fi signal with the new RUU.
I installed Micro CPU Monitor to see what the processor is doing. I'm stock on the latest leak with no problems. It does seem to bounce around a bit, but at least it isn't all or nothing. I also noticed when doing nothing it kinda stabilizes at a low value.

Don't use SetCPU to monitor it's speed, use a tool that only monitors the speed that can't change it. With SetCPU, you see the perflock kicking in and changing the minimum value.
I do agree, once we have source we can get some kernels out with perflock disabled and have better control over them.

Same here. My wifi sucked before. I was getting the same downliload speeds as on 3g. Now I get at least double that, its cooler, and I'm getting better battery life

I am finding this latest leak is more stable and the phone is running much cooler. I have no facts to base this statement on, other than how the phone is running when I'm using it. There are definitely less hiccups and my data connection appears much more solid.
I agree. Better life and cooler. But it does seem a little more laggy sometimes

Yup. I took the zip from Nilsp's thread and flashed it. It rebooted to bootloader to allowed a PH98IMG flash. Unsure what effects it would have with doing a "fastboot flash boot" command.

Hi guys, I am very new to the Note 2. I just unlocked and rooted the latest ota using Casual. Thanks to Adam Outler and everyone else involved. So my question is which ROMs are compatible with this ota? Basic question I'm sure. I came from the Razr and the kernel had to match so I assume its the same here? Anyone willing to shed some light on this for me would be greatly appreciated.

Any rom you want as long as it is in the VZW Note 2 threads can be flashed ours arent locked down by what update we are on because our bootloader is unlocked where it isnt on Moto phones. AOSP roms require AOSP kernels as TW roms require TW kernels. The roms come with kernels though so that isnt something tk worry about unless you I want to.
The only thing to remember is if you go to a 4.2 rom and want t I go back to 4.1 you have to flash a downgrade zip so your SD card doesnt become corrupted. You can find the downgrade zip in the Official CM 10.1 thread in the OP.
Check out Droidstyles guide in Android Development, its a sticky, it explains quite a bit and would ne helpful to you I think.

Thanks for the info. Exactly the answers and info I was looking for. I just flashed CleanROM and went through the flashing process. When it got to the end and said finish to reboot it just turned off and wouldnt turn back on. Couldn't get to recovery or download mode. I had to pull the battery and then turn it on. It went straight to the new ROM though without a hitch. Is that a normal part of the flashing procedure on the N2? The battery pull I mean, or did I miss something?

Thats not a normal thing to happen, but it does happen occasionally. As long as it boots up after the battery pull I wouldnt be too worried by it. I have had it happen to me before and after the battery pull I experienced no issues whatsoever.

CleanROM's good. It was the first ROM I flashed when I got my Note II too.
Eventually though, you may want to switch to something more feature-rich like Jelly Beans, which is what I'm rocking now. The features it adds are pretty awesome and you get full touchwiz functionality (S-Pen and the like) with the look of AOSP.
DL'ing Jelly Beans now. Gotta make a new TiBu before flashing though. Will give it a go shortly. My wife fusses at me sometimes cause on my old phone (Razr) and on this one I am always flashing different ROMs. She especially hates it when she calls and my phone goes directly to voicemail cause I am in recovery flashing a ROM or kernel.

Hi all, I'm feeling like a n00b on the Note too, and really appreciate the help all of you seem to be willing to share with each other. I'm not new to modding phones, recently I've been through an S3, DNA, RAZR HD and M, and even another Note 2. I made the mistake of swapping the Note 2 for an iPhone 5, and regretted it about thirty seconds later. Now that's my wife's phone, and due to the grace of another (local) xda member, I'm back rockin' the Note 2. This time around in looking forward to getting into some serious flashing and tweaking to get the most from the hardware. I've decided this is Verizon's best phone at the moment, with everything I need.
Don't worry, you're not alone in having a wife who gets annoyed at flashing and tweaking. Happens to me all the time, but I use the excuse it's one of the few hobbies that I have which doesn't involve the rest of the family and I need a bit of alone time. It kind of works as an excuse until the point where I need to use it again.
I'm looking forward to being part of this community and wanted to say hello.

I like jedi X rom...I got 3 days off my battery with just the right settings...my recommendation is to not mess with the per app dpi for the settings app because now I'm stuck without a settings app and about to switch roms...just about any rom will work as long as it's for your carrier... Best of luck!

What did you recently flash? Sounds like one of those items caused the problem. First thing to do is remove them and see if the problem goes away.

EVERYTHING was fine wen i was on at&t Stock jelly bean but when i flashed SnowJB V1.1 this problem started, (stock kernel)
i flashed mystery kernel and changed some settings in faux sound, problem solved but this kernel makes my phone too overheat.
any other solution please
If you're on mystery kernel then get a governor or oc program and change voltages to reduce heating. There's a thread on one of our boards that has a guide for under voting. You could also use faux tuner +think thats what it is+ or android tuner etc.

A few folks have. I personally have not but I have it d/l.
Hoping Saber and Faux port their kernels eventually.
It's safe
Yes ive used it for a day and I like it so far.
I just flashed it and nothing has exploded yet! So far so good ;-p It seems snappy, it's quite "minimal" as he said. I haven't been able to alter governors/IO schedulers but I'd be a betting man and say this would significantly increase battery life

I've been using it, since the OP made us Sprint folks aware of it. I haven't had any problems at all. The developer updates frequently, and now that I've started experimenting with the color temperature, the screen colors seem a lot more natural-- not so Samsung cartooney.
