[How To]Fix Black Screen after LG logo - AT&T LG Optimus G

This is the fix. Or should I say "Completely Stupid Time Consuming Trick" that somehow fixes the problem(at least for me) because now my phone powers off and on normally. Here the Steps I've done. I tested this out 4 times and it worked all four times but it was only tested on my device. So this is not guaranteed to work and its time consuming.
Step 1: Plug in charger and let it sit there at the black screen for 7-10min
Step 2: Plug out charger and hold down power button until phone fully powers off
Step 3: Hold Volume up and down at the same time and plug in charger. It should be in download mode. Let it sit there for 7-10min.
Step 4: Repeat Step #2
Step 5: Plug in charger and wait about 20-30secs. :fingers-crossed: If all went well it should go to the battery charging icon or menu or whatever you want to call it. If it does, let it charge for about 5min and fully power it on.
Congrats your phone is now on and past the black screen. :good:
This will temporarily fix the black screen problem. Well... not fix but at least get past it and have your phone on. I suggest you never fully power off your phone and use power off and restart in power option instead of power off. To fully fix it do the following Steps:
Step 6: Power off phone by holding power button until power menu pops up, and by selecting power off. When phone is fully powered off, plug in charger and wait about 20-30secs and see if it goes to the battery charging icon or menu or whatever you want to call it. If it does then proceed to Step 7.
If it does not and just sits there at the black screen, you will have to complete Steps 1-5 to get you phone back on again and retry Step 6.:crying:
Step 7: Let it charge for about 5min and fully power it back on.
Step 8: Power off phone by holding power button until power menu pops up, and by selecting power off. Now power on phone again and see if it powers on WITHOUT THE CHARGER. If so proceed to Step 9.
Again,:crying: If it does not power on and just sits there at the black screen, you will have to complete Steps 1-5 to get you phone back on again and repeat Steps 6-8 again.
Step 9: Power off phone by holding power button until power menu pops up, and by selecting power off.
Step 10: Hold power button until phone flashes lg logo, then goes completely black(not the dim lighted black screen, COMPLETELY BLACK). As soon as it goes completely black, let go of the power button and wait for your phone to power on.
If you phone powers on it should be fully fixed and should power on and off normally(well at least for me). But AGAIN *sighs* If it does not power on and just sits there at the black screen, you will have to complete Steps 1-5 to get you phone back on and repeat Steps 6-10 AGAIN.
I recommend you just do Steps 1-5 to get your phone on and past the black screen. And to use power saving technique's to save battery when not in use of phone or when not near a charger. I may make an YouTube video on how this "Completely Stupid Time Consuming Trick" is done. But anyways this is what I did to fix the black screen issue. Let me know if Steps 1-5 at least gets your phone past the black screen and on. Steps 6-10 is pointless but worked for me but time consuming.

I'm having a similar problem. But all I have done is rooted with RootOptimusG.bat and then used the freegee app from the play store to unlock. I then power off my phone and when i turn it back on all i get is the lg symbol and then a blank screen?

What was your fix, others may need it.

Hello,
I'm currently on Nocturnal Limited Edition rom. But this has been happening to all the roms Ive flashed to this phone. When i fully power off my phone or the battery fully dies, and i try to power it back on, the lg logo flashes then it just sits there on a black screen not turning on. I have to do this stupid little trick to get it back on(plus in the charger and let it sit at the black screen for 7min, hold power button and plug out charger until phone powers off, hold volume up and down then plug in charger and let it sit for 6min, hold power button and plug out charger until phone powers off, then plug back in charger and BAM mysteriously the phone powers on). Its frustrating doing this trick everytime i mistakenly power off or when the battery fully dies. Basically i have to keep my phone on all day with all these power save techniques i do. the only way i can actually restart my phone is by selecting power off and restart, rather than power off. My point is how do i fix this? how do i get it to boot up? i cant even get into bootloader because it wont power up. thanks in advance. :victory::victory:

Please post fix! I am having this exact same issue!

Edited first post

still cant get mine to restart. it sucks

I can get into download mode, after that it wont come back to life.
Any other help anybody can give me?
Thanks

I once upon a time have this kind of problem, solution below
What i did was remove the back panel, unscrew battery screws unplug battery & keep it unplugged for 1-2hrs or 5-6hrs. Then plug back battery with screws & back panel.
Its back to life !!!!!
I would suggest to take this to at&t replace & if outside usa this is the only possible solution for now.
Let me know if it works for anyone.

I tried the battery pull and it didnt work. Thanks for the idea.

Anybody have a fix for this or what causes this rediculous crap. Brand new phone and I went to shut off and reboot...now this

Did u keep it unplugged for "unplug battery & keep it unplugged for 1-2hrs or 5-6hrs" ?
This surely fixed, black screen.... any body else.

I used the lgnpst software and got mine to come back to live. Its charging now, it was dead. We will see tomorrow how it goes.

I'm working on that now. Downloaded files. Someone said we may need a special freegee app. Some phones don't take the reg app. Go figure

Well the first time I tried it it failed and got stuck in download mode, after many more tyies and a different computer it finally worked.
After it rebooted it said the battery was dead, so I had to have it on the charger for a while before it would start.
I hope itworks for you on the first try.

I was stuck on this screen after I flashed 2 back to back roms....I tried recovery mode download mode connected to usb to no avail. So I found this post.I let it charge on the black screen for 10 min unplugged it powered it down with volume down and power button and i held down volume up and power and it booted up with the animation for the 2nd Rom I used.Long Story Short battery was dead smh

I can't get mine into recovery, it won't work.

Need some advice please
Any Flyer member who can advice me please?
Buyed a WIFI Flyer 16Gb Gingerbread stock no rooted turned on and suddenly turned off and got stuck in black screen (with some light in the back) vol down + power, nothing.
battery has 100% charge, but red led turned on and off ocasionally.
Any advice how to revive it would be greatly apreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Soft reset - Hold down power button only. Keep holding until tablet resets. You should know when this happens. You can't bring it up in bootloader/recovery (down vol. + power), until it's first actually turned off.
Does your PC recognize a device being plugged in when you connect

Thanks for your replies:
It didnt work pressing only vol dow for a while, or presing only power button, it never rests.
Just behind power button a green mini led is turned on now all the time, probs started when removed back to insert sd card.
Tooked off to make some tests but now still nothing...
If connecting to PC nothing happens...not detected...no asking for install drivers
Any other advice?
Thanks in advance!

Take off back cover... Remove SD card... Try to reset again, power btn only, hold down 20 to 30 secs., don't use volume btn.
Nothing happens
i would suggest trying to globatron's attention. if anyone on this board would know what to do it would likely be him

(doesn't make sense to me) A green led can't show unless the tablet is plugged into a power source and the battery actually is 100%...
If yours is a stock unit with a stock rom (and isn't defective), I would suspect a low battery condition that can't reset/reboot for lack of power...
Suggest you plug it into the wall and try the reset procedure again, and if still a failure, (maybe you can get some help from globatron or) call HTC.
...and then again, as I've read in other threads (that you've also seen), maybe all that's needed is a battery disconnect & reconnect. - Hope you get those pics, and if so... make it a last course of action, as you'll have no warranty if you do it.
Thanks.
Update:
I left computer connected to Flyer all night, and the day after it was turned off, then unplugged from PC and plugged it again, PC recognized the tablet and after that I ran the stock RUU, now it´s stuck on the process as it has been more than 20 minutes and progress bar in computer is at 100% with the following legend:
sending..........
updating the Rom image on your android phone
It is stuck there, how much should I wait? or if you recommend to do something else?
Thanks in advance for all your help.
UPDATE: RUU failed, says I have the wrong image, finished, exited and rebooted normally!
Now working, but I´m afraid to open the cover to insert my sd as the last time it was when it was turned off
Orb,
That sounds like it when into DL mode. On the flyer once you get out of DL mode it's normally fine after that. It seems to be random, mine did it once or twice, leedroid has seen it as have a few others.
After it boots again it goes back to normal.
Hi mate,
Thanks for your reply.
Very strange behavior. After all above mentioned I was able to use is perfect, even updated to OTA Honeycomb all went ok, installed some apps, etc.
Then decided it was time to test again to remove the cover and install my sd card, just in the minute I touched the back , not even finished of removing, and Flyer went screen off, now again I can´t turn it on. Could be a short circuit or something?
I will leave it connected to wall charger for the night and hopefully tomorrw will be able to turn it on again....
I swear never again to remove the back cover
PS: I checked battery level before all this and it was in 77%, now red led on power button is on...

That's weird, if it's not too much could you try and get a logcat (adb logcat) when its screen goes off while opening the cover. That should help us establish whether this is a HW problem(unique perhaps bad mainboard) or software problem (me,globatron,Lee, etc. experienced)
I can also confirm that it happened to me too couple of months back, but after soft reset it rebooted fine, but the backcover issue is new.

hello
Im orbs friend, my htc flyer still having the prob, everytime i touch the cover or pusih it by accident it goes back.
What I do is leaving it charging for awhile and press power button and vol down at the same time for around 30 sec for a couple of times and then it re start. Im guessing its not a software problem i dont find an explanation i even updated it to 2.3.4.

[q] rezound wont turn on :/

I'm very much new to this, so please take it easy on the terminology, and insults.. :/ Just to be clear ive never rooted this phone or flashed it or anything like that.
I was using my phone and the battery ran really low and it died. I went to turn it on, and it wouldn't turn on, so i charged the battery for a good hour. I press the power button and it vibrates, but the screen stays black.
after that i tried doing a hard reset, so with the phone in that black screen, i took the battery out so it would turn off. Put it back in, followed the instructions for hard reset from the VZW website (without turning the phone on, because i'm still unable to do so), and nothing happened at all. I gave it a couple tries and still nothing.
Then i took the battery out, put it back in, pressed the power button. I felt it vibrate again like last time. So in this post-vibrate state, without removing the battery, while the screen is still black with no power on, i did the hard reset. It vibrated and then now the 4 touch buttons at the screen illuminated, and the backlight turned on, but the screen itself was still black.
can anyone help me out??

Happened to me... leave it on the charger at least 3 hours and check it. The battery completely drains when you unplug the charger if you charged with the phone off. gl
Edit: If it still won't work, turn phone on and plug in charger.

This happened to me too. I completely drained the battery and it kept going into a loop (black screen, LG logo, battery screen). I left it plugged in and off and let it boot up.
FYI
This has happened to several people. I have confirmed through testing, even exchanging my phone 2 days ago that this is an issue created when unlocking the bootloader. Rooting does not cause it. Once the bootloader is unlocked, you can not get around this by re-locking the bootloader.
The workaround is simple. Either leave your phone on while it is charging or if you charge with phone off, unplug your charger and hit the power button- you will still see the charge animation running- this is what causes the battery to drain. All you have to do is power up the phone at least to boot then it is ok to turn off. You can confirm it worked by touching the power button again and not see the charge animation. Hope this helps.
Wow thanks so much for the reply and help! I've got it working now and I guess I'll just avoid it by not letting it die lol

well...
If you let it die all the way, its not a big deal. Plug it in, hold down the volume down button and the power button for 15 seconds, then it will work fine.
Threads like this makes this forum so great. Another potential problem to be avoided when using the phone.

I could use some help guys, if this thread isn't too old. I've searched high and low to the answer here and nothing is working. I've tried download mode, fastboot, recovery, reset, holding power down, plugging it in and unplugging it. I've pulled the plate off of the battery, tried LGNPST, drivers, etc. No go on anything.
The phone is still dead, and will not turn on. The best I've gotten is a solid red light after holding the power button for 15-20 seconds. Then after about 3-5 seconds it resumes flashing (alternating between the red light and the key buttons). If I continue holding the power button down it will repeat this, showing solid red and then reverting to flashing.
I can not get the screen to display anything, not even the charging animation, and none of my computers will even recognize the device. I've been messing with it all day and I'm stuck. If anyone can help me, at all, please do. I hate going to Sprint. Anything but that, please.

Phone will only power up for 7 seconds total

Had and still have an issue today. While driving earlier yesterday, I was listening to music in my car with phone connected on headphone jack. It made a buzzing noise( that came through car audio) , I disconnected and removed battery. I replaced battery and phone will not turn back on at all, will only show both Samsung logo's then go black screen. The phone will only power up for a total of 7 seconds from initial power up vibration on any combination of buttons,or even using a JIG
which went right into download mode.
- If I plug into power source , phone will just vibrate.
- I removed battery and replace, both Samsung logo's will appear then turn off.
- If I hold volume down + power button and place battery in, it will go into download mode. In this mode I can hit volume down to restart but it will just stay on black screen. Also if I hold these buttons down and do nothing the screen will just go black after a few seconds.
- I can also put into download mode to hook up to ODIN using same method and pressing volume up, but will say downloading then shut off.
- I've tried holding down volume up+down and power and it will not go into recovery.
- Odin with recognize it for a second (say device plugged in) and start to download files then it will say device unplugged after a few seconds
I've been looking at unbricking and unrooting threads with no luck. Any help is appreciated.
I don't know about the buzzing sound, but the rest sounds like a dead battery. Are you sure it's charged or that your charger didn't die on you? I don't believe phones brick after the flash is up and running.

Yes I'm 1000% percent sure its not a dead battery and even had it at AT&T warranty center this morning having them look at it. I was trying my luck even though its out of warranty. This issue is like none I've heard, because of the fact that phone actually powers up and I can get into download mode within those 7 seconds, but will shut off after. I've timed it till it powers off.

Am having this same issue with my girlfriends phone just as of a couple hours ago. It's completely stock and just recently received an OTA update a few days ago, she showed me bragging how she can watch videos and do other things at the same time now knowing how much I want a Note lol, she's had zero issues with it other than the battery getting very hot while charging a week or so ago and seems to be very slightly bulging now that I've looked at it. Out of nowhere today as we're walking through a parking lot and she's carrying it in her hand, not even using it, she says something is wrong with her phone and hands it to me with it vibrating every couple of seconds and not reacting to any buttons. I take the battery out and when we get inside put it back in and without even pressing anything it goes to the Samsung logo, black, animated Samsung logo, then turns off and goes back to vibrating every couple seconds. I look up the button combination for recovery and download mode and all that, I try recovery and it does the same vibrate every couple of seconds but never goes to recovery, and if I take the battery out, hold down volume down, then put the battery in it comes up with the warning about installing ROMs and all that, weather I press volume down or do nothing it stays at that screen for maybe five seconds then turns off and the only way I can get to the download mode is to take the battery out then press volume down. I have the Sprint Samsung Epic 4G and the batteries aren't the same but are very similar, mine is just shorter and 1500mAh, hers is taller and 2500mAh. So for the heck of it I put hers in my phone and hold it enough to where it connects and turn on my phone without issue, it boots up and shows 70% on the battery, I now have it plugged in and charging the battery at the moment with no issues. I put my battery in her phone and held it till it connects and it does the same Samsung logo, goes black, Samsung animated logo, then turns off BUT no vibrating anymore. If I press ANY button though as long as it's being held it vibrates every couple of seconds and if I hold volume down while I connect the battery it goes to Download mode but can't do anything and it turns off after about five seconds same as before, still no recovery access either. Heard that there is a power button issue with this phone and for the heck of it I've wiggled and pressed the power button with no charger or battery connected for around half an hour just to see if I can make it better, but no luck.
Hope to hear a solution to this. I would take the back cover off and clean the power button but I'm not sure if that would void the AT&T insurance, not going to try till I know I can get away with it without them knowing because if I can't fix it it's getting sent off for repairs.
EDIT: And sort of following captemo's suggestion I took a metal box, laid a hoodie over it for a bit of padding, then moderately bounced the phone on its power button side (without letting the power button be pressed/pushed, by letting it hang over the edge of the box) for a minute or so as if thinking the power button was stuck pushed in and I was trying to knock it back out, then put its battery back in and what do you know it turns on fine now. Weirdest way I've ever had to fix a phone, but hey it works now so the girlfriend will be happy.

Sort of is about right, glad you got it going. Many will complain about the button still clicking even though button is actually stuck. Many have cited some very simple sounding instructions for cleaning power button contacts with minimal deconstruction of phone. Using swab and alcohol. Run a search in q&a, sure you will get something.

I tried the button with no resolution. I just went ahead and jumped ship and bought Note 3. Thanks to everyone who tried to help out

[Q] Motorola Photon 4G won't turn on/charge

Hi!
I've been having a little trouble with my Motorola Photon 4G this past week. So far it wasn't that bad, but it got worse during the past couple days. I've had it for about 2 years, and have to wait until February to change it. (Note: it is not, nor has it ever been rooted)
It started by just freezing and restarting at random moments. Then I had to remove the battery to restart it when it froze, because the power button wouldn't respond. It started going on reboot loops, where it would freeze, I'd take out the battery, it'd restart, and go through the restart process over and over again until the battery died. I could still turn it on. After a couple days, the battery would drain extremely quickly, to the point where to actually be able to turn it on I'd have to remove the battery, plug the phone in until the "looking for battery" icon popped up, reinstall the battery, wait for it to charge, and then turn it on.
Now, no matter what I do, it will not turn on. If I plug it in a wall outlet, it
-With the battery installed --> LED turns green, nothing pops up, power button is not responsive
-Without the battery --> Nothing happens
If I plug it in the computer, the LED turns white, but the Dual Core screen doesn't pop up. When it rarely does, it freezes there.
I have tried the whole "hold power button and volume down" (Stuck in RSD mode or something like freezes on the screen), or "hold the power button and volume up" (Fastboot freezes on the screen), and the holding the two volume keys when the Dual Core screen pops up doesn't work either.
I can't get a new contract, since I am moving away in a couple months in another country, and an US phone would be useless.
Does anybody have a solution?

Try this:
1) Power down (if not already powered off);
2) Pull the battery out;
3) Plug power in *without* putting the battery in;
4) Boot the phone.
If it does not start, we'll have to go from there. If it does start, you need a new battery.

The light is green because it's powered and the battery doesn't need charging (not in the device). At least we have that.
Ok, this will sound stupid, but let's give it a shot:
1) unplug power;
2) remove battery (if not still removed);
3) Let it sit for a while (10 minutes would be overkill, but what the heck);
4) plug power in (not battery -- leave that out);
5) Press and hold the power and volume-down buttons for a good long time -- get a motorola screen?
If we don't get the motorola screen, could be a couple things -- screen dead? Or hardware prob (maybe the power button is dirty -- push good and hard just to be sure).

i had the same issue 2 weeks ago. you need to buy a new battery as the one your using is completely drained. after that... unbrick and you should be ok.

Okay because I'm just going to have to have everything literally spelled out for me. I wasn't exaggerating when I said I was a noob haha
As I thought, battery shot. Confuses many. So, an unbrick might not be necessary. The battery just won't even pull up the bootloader.
If you get the new battery, and you never rooted, thus didn't load the clockwork recovery hack, it should charge, and then boot might be ok. We will see, but until you see no boot at all, unbrick is the last resort since it's a slog and you're not overly experienced.
I can help, but the OP on the unbrick thread is a great help in most cases.

No worries -- your duty (of course) is hit the Thanks button when folks help and we get somewhere. I also fixed a couple typos in my reply (typed on a phone, and naturally ends up imperfect. Just didn't want you confused. One way or another, you can get the phone back up and running.

Not quite sure what you're saying, but the new battery the OP in this thread purchased should charge fine unless something is really wrong (never rooted so never loaded any charge-precluding mods).
If you are saying that on your phone, with a new battery, you still had to unbrick it because it wouldn't charge ... hmmmm ... seems very strange. Even the clockwork recovery mod would come up and then allow rebooting normally.
We'll see when the new battery comes. Hopefully no unbrick work required, just a charge.
what i am saying is that when the phone is bricked.. i mean bricked... nothing works what so ever except rsd... then thats it... it will not charge the battery. if you have a dead battery then dont expect it to charge while rsd. i needs power on the battery to allow RSD because the computer doesnt flash when the battery is dead and doesnt flash without the battery.
thus... he needs a changed battery. you could buy a seperate charger if you like... but it is much more expensive then buying a battery
Ok, I see what you're saying.
Yes, if truly bricked, it's an unbrick operation. Smells bricked, but I find it plausible the OP gets a battery with enough charge to try a boot. It is concerning we couldn't get booted on power without battery, though. That should have worked. Do it all the time working on kernel modules.
Just saying don't unbrick until trying out the new battery, the former of which the OP could do on power alone.
To qualify so no confusion -- I reboot into recovery mod without battery merely by plugin in -- so I can flash over modules. I've never been able to boot in to the OS normally without the battery in, but we still should see the moto logo.
