okay...
I have dropbox and love it (50GB free) :woohoo:
On JB roms I can't export to external SD card (I can export to internal but I prefer to use external for DB)
on GB rom the path for external SD card is accessed within internal SD card i.e. sdcard/extsdcard/ (or something similar)
So, is there anyway to get Dropbox to see external SD card on JB?? (NB, it does see folders if you create new folder from within the app, but it doesn't see any other folders [apart from clockworkmod for some reason])
-=or=- is there a way to change the JB path for ext sdcard to be accessed from within the internal storage??
PS - I do just manually move things from internal to external... but I'm not getting any younger doing it
:bump:

I have the same problem with Galaxy Note N7000. Any idea how to fix it, maybe link external_sd to /extSdCard?
Btw you can use Astro File Manager. It can access both sd card and dropbox as folders and simple copy/paste will work. Just tested

I dunno... Could it be related to a specific ROM? I have no problem at all accessing both int and ext SD cards from Dropbox "export" function (they are listed as internal storage and SD card respectively), and can see all folders on either storage. Running Disaster v.10 (stock-based LSD).
Look at dropsync ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/...e=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=dropsync) I think it does what your after.

Did you install dropbox before you put your card in the phone? If you did, dropbox might have configured itself based on the available storage options at the time......try clearing dropbox's data, or deleting and re installing the app to see if that helps......

Fixed the issue in my device. Multiple directories for my external SD card. Dropbox was choosing one called extsdcard but it wasn't really the external so I renamed that folder. It then chose the real external SD card. Now I am able to export to it correctly.

Have rooted the phone s3...but am unable to move apps to sd .
There's a method but seems too complicated...
Any other ideas anyone or is it for the best to leave apps on the phone in the case of pics
You have an app called app 2 sd on play store. I think it will work.
btw: are you from Dubai??
Nope does not work....as far as in have read its something thats not possible on the s3 so far...due to ics.

app 2 sd may not be needed in s3 . as the sgs3 use the whole internal sd for data + user files there is no need to move it to sd

aaaaaahhhh, im so jealous . Cant wait S3 to come in my country.
I've been using my SGS3 for 3 days now. 16GB internal +32GB external SD
So far:
- device memory total space 11.35GB & available 1.65GB (downloaded my Google Play Music collection, went straight to internal memory, no choice)
- SD card total space 29.71GB & available 29.71GB
What I hope is happening:
is what I've been reading about but no proof... the data is being distributed somehow between both cards and it just doesn't show, OR, the internal storage has 11GB dedicated to apps & music and what-not, and once that is used up, any additions will be moved to the external SD
What I think will happen:
"You have run out of memory, please remove some files or apps to proceed", in a typical Microsoft moment...
I was prompted only once to install stuff on the external SD; those were additional files (250MB) that needed to be downloaded for a game I had just installed. Of course I chose external SD but it doesn't look like it worked...

Was shocked when I got my S3 and saw it didn't supports app2sd. My friend has almost filled up his 16GB internal with apps. His 64GB SD card can't even used for apps at this point.
I am keen to see what happens with this SD card business. Why have the SD card if your apps cannot utlise it. e.g using rdio and 16gb for offline storage and games and movies etc is simply not sufficient.
Any solutions as of now?
Is there any market app that ha been proven to work or any ROMs that have this enabled?
This is very inconvenient........

great information, do you not think i have tried?
Just got my Tmo Note home, I think I got the last one as there were only 2 Denver retail stores that had them . Is there going to be a new forum here at xda for this phone?
I'm having an issue with the external sdcard, I am using ES File Explorer. I put the external sdcard from my old sensation into the new note, I browse to /sdcard/external_sd/ and I get an empty folder. Something reported to me that the ext sdcard was not mounted but I forget what I was doing when I saw that. What do I need to do to access the external sdcard taken from my Sensation?
I imagine this is an easy situation, I just haven't experienced a setup where there is an internal and external sdcard on a phone.
Thanks
Peter
That's interesting because I have a i717 and I flashed a nandroid backup courtesy of Rotohammer if I am not mistaken, when the device booted and I went to look for sd card it didn't show anything. But a reboot solved it for me. Worst case is you backup anything you need from the sd to a PC and fully format card.

I rebooted and still got an empty /external_sd folder. Once I backup the sd to pc, how do I mount/format the ext. sdcard?
Also, when I plugged the phone into pc with usb it shows phone as 9.85GB - I thought this came with 16GB of internal memory?
Under /mnt i have asec, obb, sdcard, secure and usb - no /mnt/ext_sdcard
Make sure the card if formated as FAT32 - if plugged into a computer, right click and select properties). I recently purchased a 64gb card and when I turned on the Note, I got the error the SD card was not mounted. I couldn't mount it or format it. Did some searching and others had that problem. The solution was to delete all partitions (searched cnet downloads for a partition manager) on the microSD card then insert into the Note & turn it on. The Note reported there was a damaged SD card - then I was given a prompt to format the microSD card.
So make sure your data is backed up 1st.
Not sure why your internal space shows that. That number seems low. May have to format internal storage and factory reset as it comes fresh out of the box.

I just got the T-Mobil Galaxy Note as well. I had not problem moving my SD card from My Touch 4g. At first I didn't understand the file structure, but now I see that the external cards shows under the directory of the SD card which really is internal memory. That memory shows only a total of 9.85 GB (should be 16 according to specs) and the other internal is 1.97 GB. I would also be curious if anyone know why the internal memory numbers are so far off.
My best guess is this.
11gb is parted off for user.
2gb is parted off for apps.
that's 13gb for user storage.
The rest is for /system, /cache, dalvic and future ROM updates. Naturally a new os will take more space so they make a best guess for future upgrades, features, etc.
You never really get what the advertised storage is. Plus its better to have more space remaining for the rom than what it actually needs to help future proof a bit and so you don't run into storage restrictions when upgrading or flashing custom stuff.
Take the xoom for example, it leaves 28gb for user, and only about 1gb to 1.3gb for the rest of the system. Because of that we have to use symbolic links to have some of the gapps load up when flashing as to avoid errors and such.
Sometimes having some missing storage is a good thing as its almost certainly belonging to the back end.

Hey everyone. I recently got a new sd card for my device and have been wondering if there's a way I can move either entire apps or just the app data from the internal storage to the external storage. Running cm10 means that the two storage spaces are separated and when apps are moved to the "sd card" its simply to the internal phone storage which doesn't do me any good . Is there a way this can be remedied? Thanks in advance.

This seems to be the easy method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262
I prefer to do it manually though. I tried that app i didnt like it.
1. Downoald smanager
2. Use ur pc or file manager and create a .txt file and type: mount -o bind /storage/sdcard1/your folder name/ /storage/sdcard0/your folder name/
U will just choose what folder u want to move to ur external card (make sure to creat the folder names on external first)
Sdcard1 is ur external and sdcard0 is ur phone. So for ex. If u want to move ur data folder to ur sd card u will put: mount -o bind /storage/sdcard1/data/ /storage/sdcard0/data/
3. Save ur txt file to any name u want then open smanager and go to ur text file and open as excutible and the click on root and set as boot the icons should be at the top.
4. Once done reboot and there u go
Make sure the directories are named correctly. U can do this for any folder and a txt file must be created for each directory u want to bind
Thanks so much for your response. Appreciate it a lot. Will try out both methods and see if they work. Thanks.

Okay so I finally had time to follow the method provided here, however when I run the script in smamager it says permission denied. And once rebooted it seems to not have worked. Their may be some variable I'm not aware of that's preventing it that I'm still trying to determine.
Also would it be possible to simply set my default external storage to sdcard1 instead of sdcard0? That way future applications would simply go there by default?

Im simply trying to remove large app data such as games from my internal phone storage to my external storage. Basically I have no space on internal storage so I went out and got an sd card in an attempt to have more space for apps.
So either a) I would like to have that data on my internal storage removed to my actual sd card.
Or b) set my external sd card as my default app data location going forward.
App2sd didn't seem to work when I tried it. What instead happens is since I'm running cm10 it partitions my internal storage in two so that when moving apps to "sdcard", it moves data into a separate part of my internal storage.
I know this probably seems like a basic problem, and honestly I can't remember having this issue ever prior to using cm10, but it's turning out to be quite a hassle as I'm trying to install apps and games and hitting a brick wall cause of no storage. In the past I have been able to send app data to the actual sd card, but it's simply just not working anymore.

sdcard0 is ur internal and sdcard1 is ur external, so if u are trying to bind, u are going to specify u want /storage/sdcard1/Android/data/ to take over /storage/sdcard0/Android/data/ folder to do this u will put in a txt file
-o bind /storage/sdcard1/Android/data/ /storage/sdcard0/Android/data/
before you run the script, make sure u move all the files in ur folders to the external place 1st.

It's an sdcard permissions issue, my galaxy 7 plus had it. I know my note 2 has it as well. Since we are on JB I believe you can use the fix for the s3 (on JB) for the note 2. I have not gotten around to doing the fix for it yet, but you need to be rooted to do it.

You might have to do what I did.
First backup any data from the SD card to your PC if you need it.
Then with the card in the Note 2, go to settings, storage, and format the card.
Once that's done, copy the data back from the PC to the card.
That's what I did when I got it then I formatted my SD card through my PC with fat 32 and same problem

You should be able to move and delete files by using the my files apps that samsung installed on the note 2.. if so it's a permissions problem (I know it is for me, but I'm being too lazy to fix it at the moment). Back your /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml file in root explorer first just in case...
Here's the fix I used on my galaxy tab 7 plus.

I can't post a link to the original post on another forum that worked for me so I will quote it:
Simple solution for external sdcard write access on Android 3.2...if you're rooted
I've found a simple solution for gaining write access to the external sdcard (/mnt/sdcard2) on Android 3.2. The sdcard is mounted r/w, but the owning group is media_rw which is linked to the WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE permission. Unfortunately, this permission was not required for access to the external sdcard prior to 3.2 so most file management utilities do not request it when they run...meaning they only have read access to the card.
The simple solution, if you're rooted, is as follows:
1. Using a root-enabled file manager, navigate to /system/etc/permissions and make sure you have mounted the file system r/w.
2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...<group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save the changes to the file.
5. Restart your tablet.
After this change, any apps that request the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission (which includes almost anything that access either of the sdcards) will gain group membership in both sdcard_rw AND media_rw, giving them r/w access to both sdcard filesystems.

How big are these files? Fat32 has a file size limit of 4GB if the file is bigger than that it will not work. If you need above 4GB file size support reformat the microsd card exfat.
The files are movies between 700mb and 1.6 GB and once I was able to move a 700mb movie and later that night I moved some music over and while I was watching the movie the music started playing and the movie wouldn't.

I have 3 memory on my player 4.2:

- External with 4,6 Go
- Micro SD card 16 Go.
When i'm on setting > storage , i can see internal memory and external. so i've only 6.6Go.
My micro SD is not reconized as internal or external.
So i want to know if i can get it reconize as internal or external, because for installing big games ( most wanted etc...) i need a lot of space, and don't have enought space in the player...only in the card
hope you will understand me,i'm french and do my best for you ^^

I know that internal/external swaps exist, either via hack or via app (google search). I'm not sure though how well it'll work for your device since I'm not too familiar with the 4.2. One program I know that lets you put apps on the actual SD card for use is Gemini App Manager. This is assuming your SD card is mounted.
Your SD card wouldn't be recognized as external or internal, but only as SD card (or something like that)
on my ace, when i put a sd card, it's recognize as external memory but not on my player because when you have those player,it have external memory without sd...
so i will try to find something if i can...
i want to do that: Expand memory but for my player ^^
No one have a solution?
I'm also looking for a similar solution. I've SMP 5.0 and i want to install games, problem is that they are using internal memory which is quite low. How do I install it on sd-card and not use internal memory???
i've maybe find something.
