Unlock screen reunlock - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I have a fairly new N2, and am currently connected to work email via exchange. I configure the exchange server as well. I currently have the policy on the server set so that you only have to type in your required pin every 20 minutes. For some reason the N2 seems to ignore this and requires a pin everytime. Anyway to force the N2 to follow the policy of only requiring the pin every 20 min, it's a pain when texting to have to type a pin in every time to answer a message.

Enforced password - registry hack vs keep alive?

As I use my Ameo with my work's Exchange server, I am forced to password protect the littlel beauty - this is painful as the time limit of 20 minutes is imposed. Not only do I have to regularly enter the password during my working day, but also using the gps in the car or the plane has become unworkable on a trip over 20 minutes unless I remember to press the screen regularly.
I found this (http://www.mobilitytoday.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13030&page=2) link which details a registry hack to remove the password which I just tried and it works well until the Exchange server re-enforces the passsword (once a day). This works for gps usage as I can just re-set the registry before a journey and know it will be ok.
Don't particularly want to use it full time, as I approve of password protection, but 20 minutes is a pain. Couple of hours would sort me out.
Found also another program - IBE's Keep Alive - which seems to do something similar, but using a different approach.
If this impacts you, what option do you use and why does it work for you?

May be I've misunderstood this, I thought you could set the password entry to come on only when there is no activity for 24 hours?

Unfortunately not when it is enforced by the server - the time is set by the server admin according to the business requirements. The registry hack allows you to over-ride this, but only until the next server enforcement

I connect to my works exchange server and it give me a warning that it must enforce security policies on my device, but then it allows me to choose ANY time range...i set mine to 24 hours of inactivity and have no trouble
On that same page you link to, grab the utility by Zen (Zenyee stayunlock). This little app monitors the registry key and changes it back each time your exchange server enforces it's policy.
My work sets the password timeout to 2 frickin minutes!!! yes two!
Phone locks during calls, reading ebooks - was totally unuseable untill I found stayunlock and set it to two hours.

Phone Lock security help.

My administrator has enabled automatic phone lock and set it to 15 minutes. After 15 minutes of inactivity, my phone locks and requires me to enter password before I can use my phone again. This is so annoying and I want to disable it. When I go under settings..security...the "Prompt for password" checkbox is checked and greyed out. I'm assuming this is being enforced via our exchange server.
Does anyone know if I can disable this via a registry setting or other hack? If not, does anyone know of application that will "fool" my phone into thinking I've pressed a key every 14 minutes, thus never allowing the phone to go the full 15 minutes and then lock?
Thanks.
Ok I found a little app that does the trick for all of you who have annoying rules forced upon you!

Bypassing Exchange security policy on samsung vibrant

Hi,
I have a unrooted t-mobile samsung vibrant I got the other day. I keep getting this annoying pin after about 5 min of by phone waking up asking for a pin.
This happened when I setup my exchange corporate email.
Is there a app or a tool to turn this off?
It is a security policy on the exchange server. You can turn off the policy on the server side.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Ok. Will ask the admin thanks
There is an app/widget called no lock for you to bypass the lock screen, it even kills the swipe to unlock. I find this easier than asking the admin.
appbrain.com/app/no-lock/org.jraf.android.nolock
I use the following app....

And it works perfectly with our coop email, it call touchdown - search on market for it (or from their website), try out the lite version to ensure it's working, before you invest in the full app.
Hope it helps for you.

[Q] Lock Time Blocker

Hello,
i configured Direct Push for my company email account.
With the first connection the keylock is set to 15 min. and is greyed (so it can't be switched off) : This is because of security regulation in the company.
The problem shows with tomtom. after 15 minutes the HD2 gets locked. So to see tomtom again i have to unlock the HD2.
Is there any registry key where to set the time?
so i can override the registry changes?
(I think i have to do this every time after connection with the mailserver, or a least when i want to use tomtom)
thanks for your help

[Q] Device Encryption wiht Pin

Hello Guy's,
we are testing the S3 for Enterprise use. We also want to use the Device Encryption Feature.
When i want to Encrypt the Device it Says i need a least a 6 Character long Password with one Number in it for the Sreen lock.
Thats maybe more Secure but a little to complicated for Every Day use.
Samsung E-Mail Support told me that is it Possible, to encrypt the Device with Pin Screen lock only.
But if i have a Screen Lock with Pin the Device won't start Encryption.
Can Somebody confirm that, or tell me what i'M doing wrong?
Basicly on my HTC Legend with ICS Custom i saw that PIN Only Encrpytion is Possible on ICS.
Regards
Steven
First off: encrypting with PIN is as secure as not encrypting at all - you really don't want to do that if you're not only using it as a gimmick but to actually keep your data save and secure.
That said, I think it's possible the same way as I did it on the S2.
With a custom app that triggers the encryption w/o forcing you to set a specific password first.
// EDIT
Connecting to an Exchange Active Sync server with a security policy set up to your needs might work as well.
Hello Hellcat,
BIG thank you for your reply. Setting a Active Sync Policy with 4 Chars allowed me to encrypt with pin.
i didn't know that Active sync is that powerfull out of the box.
The Interesting Point is that the Settings of the mobileiron device Managment Software didn't work, although i had the same settings.
I know that a 4 Char Pin ins't really secure, but it will still lockout 95% of random people how find a lost device.
And theres always a trade off between security and usability.
regards
Stefan
Kinda Sorta Similar
I normally just lurk and observe the talent around here, but I had to register to voice a kinda sorta similar issue. (watched noob video)
The balance between security and usability with the standard encryption scheme seems problematic. I'm pretty sure I have an original gameboy that can crack a 4 digit passcode, but I don't want to have to enter 20 characters every time just to unlock the screen.
I want to be able to have a strong password on boot, but have a separate weak password lock screen. I think that would fix the problem of usability while maintaining strong security. Is there anyway to do this?
Are there any groups or projects that include or work on user friendly encryption?
