[Q] Tasker - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, i downloaded tasker from the playstore. Tried to play with it but i can't get it to do anything. I simply went to menu, clicked on more and "Run an Action", it did not do anything. Whenever i set a profile and add actions to it, the profile gets activated but the tasks are never ran..how can i check if tasker is really working. Thanks

Go to the Tasker website or there is a Tasker thread in themes and apps

I made a tasker dicussion thread in themes and apps section, ask anything related there

Go to the tasks tab, click open your task, and click the Play button bottom right. If you set things up correctly, you should see it running (unless it all happens in the background)

Nothing happening
Swyped from another galaxy

Dunno, my next option would be to email the dev (he's got a google groups page as well) and explain your situation.
Let's carry on the discussion on the Tasker thread and maybe someone else can help out

[HELP] Trying to find a solution to apps running in background. Any way to stop them?

First of all, I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN BROUGHT UP BILLIONS OF TIMES, SO BEFORE YOU REPLY WITH "Search the forums" READ THIS.
I have been looking for WEEKS trying to find an answer to this, and no answer given on any forums are what I am looking for.
I have an android phone (sidekick 4g) and there are apps that run in the background when not necessary. Now I know some stuff need to be aways running for the phone to function. But I also know that apps like Facebook, Market, Gmail, T-mobile's Media Store, MyYearBook, Maps, Aptoide, etc don't. When I force close them, they just start up a few seconds later. I've tried task killers and got the same result. I've read the "Why you shouldn't use a task killer" articles but everyone keeps saying different things about it so I'm confused.
Like many others, I want my battery to last at least half way through the day. The above mentioned apps (and some others) DRAIN THE BATTERY WHEN RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND WHEN I DON'T WANT THEM TO.
Please does anyone know of a way to fix this?
My phone is rooted, if that matters.
Also, "freezing" the apps don't help cause then I can't use them when I actually want to.
Thank you very much in advance anyone who can help me out!

Applications running, doesn't mean cpu cycles are being used. Sitting in memory is no different then a song sitting on your sdcard. Your issue with the battery has to do with processes using cpu cycles. If you have applications that update, force updates manually.
Just having apps in memory isn't your issue.
Use the features built into the os, find out what apps are causing the problem. Look at the settings. If you have looked at your settings, then you have one of three choices. Open bugreports with the application developers, don't install the apps causing problems, or upgrade your phone.

Thank you that makes sense.
I would think those apps would use battery because it pushes notifications for the app (like new messages and stuff). Does that not use battery?

It does use battery because to process the notification it needs to use the cpu. If you force applications to update manually. Your batter would be better. Check into battery saving tuts. All that information has already been discussed plenty. Won't change in this scenario either.
The more apps you have updating information the more data and notifications are being processed.

Also, I have another problem, if you know anything about this kinda stuff. The Facebook app icon just (like 10 minutes ago) disappeared from my home screen, and it's not in the app drawer either. I uninstalled and reinstalled and still having the problem. I can only open it by manually searching "facebook" in the google search widget and that's when it gives me the option to open the app. It's really bizzare and I have no idea what's going on.

Sounds like a issue with the rom or launcher. Try installing another launcher from the market and see if the application is installed. If its there with another launcher then its your stock launcher, if its not then its the rom.

It sounds like you have a program open that is trying to pull your location like Google maps. Download advanced task killer from the market and kill all your open applications. The app is free.
don't need

You actually don't need a separate task killer app. If you open the APP tab, (the one that shows all of the apps), there is a tab there that says "Running Tabs." Then you will see another tab that says "stop all running applications".
Additionally go into your settings and you will find a section to turn on/off the GPS.
and there is always factory reset to fall back on !

Good tip. Since I bought my tab I have used some of the same apps from my phone and just added them over. I'll have to check it out when I get home.

I believe the only way to have that flashing is by having the GPS activated in Settings --> Location & Security. Are you actually using GPS on your tablet?
If not, just go to Settings --> Location & security and turn off all 3 of the checkboxes located there. They are:
Use wireless networks
Use GPS Satellites
Use location for google search
I personally never leave those on myself. Try deactivating those and you should never see that problem again.
Thank you guys for the solutions, Problem solved.

[REQ] Remove the earphone icon and "Recommended shortcuts"

On the GS3 you could freeze the "Context Aware Service". I can't find anything directly related to this on the GS4. I have never once thought about opening one of those stupid apps after plugging in earphones... seriously, Reddit is Fun and Root Explorer? Titanium Backup? Why? Why would I need headphones for those? And I don't need an icon to tell me I have earphones plugged in as I can plainly see them.
I agree.. Would love be to able to remove this.
But for now just freeze the PageBuddyNotiSvc 1.0 in Titanium Backup.

I posted this in another forum, but here's what you can do:
You can remove the suggested apps when you plug headphones in with Nova Launcher. Create a new shortcut, Activities -> Settings -> Page Buddy. You can turn it off with that shortcut and it will stay off in the stock launcher as well.
This worked for me. Doing just what you want and a whole lot more. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293956

If you go into application manager, find the recommended shortcuts app, and uncheck "receive notifications" it no longer shows up. It worked for me.

Mine does the same thing. The android OS is killing it because it is not running in the foreground. The only solutions I've read about so far are to download another equalizer until google fixes it. The app in the play store 'equalizer' appears to be a pretty good one. You can set it to only have the notification when it sees you listen to music. When you close Play Music, the notification goes away. It worked for me.

[Q] Simple app to set date, time?

Can anyone suggest a simple app, for rooted, to set the date and time? Something similar to the the option you normally find in the Settings.

I con't post links but search on Google Play for ClockSync by Sergey Baranov. It was really good back when I had my Nexus S.
Thanks. I've actually had a look before on this one, but it can't be used to manually set the date/time. Only automatically after getting the info from the internet.

Strange tasker behavior

I'm a tasker newb, my problem is that I do not have the option to load apps in the app action section of tasks in Tasker. I mean it is literally not there. I have the options for
Calendar Insert
Go Home
Kill App
Launch App
Test App
No Load App, and Load Last app is unavailable. Been playing around with Tasker for about two weeks and have installed it/uninstalled it. Still the same. I have made/used a few profiles but wanted to make the simple headphone plugin music player menu profile but I cant do it if I have no way of loading aps to a menu. Is there something I'm missing, doing wrong? Or does it simply not work with my phone, a rooted galaxy s4? Has anyone else had this experience? Is there a solution

If you want a singular app to load when your headset is plugged in, say Spotify for example you can use the launch app action and select Spotify. If you're wanting a selection of apps to pick from when you plug you're headset in, you're going to have to create a scene to do this. I suggest going over the pocketables tutorials or looking up the Tasker google group.
