[Q] VRALJB Update rolling out - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Just got the message on my VRALJB Note 2 about the software update. Rooted but not unlocked. Have deferred it the 5 days.
What can I pull to help out on this guys?

Thanks for the offer of help, but you missed the already existing two page thread at the top of the forum, which already has the update posted:
VRALL4 rolling out now apparently

bsweetness, wasn't sure the VRALL4 included the VRALJB

You will no longer be able to root with the current method if you take this update according to droid life. Suck it Verizon. Lol

VRALJB is the version that everyone with a stock Verizon Note 2 has had for awhile now. VRALL4 is the new update that was just released today, which replaces VRALJB, and I'm pretty sure that's the update you received.

We'll try to keep the discussion in here. Guys, if you see any more threads about it pop up, please report it so we can close it and direct it there. Thank you. :highfive:

Upgrade to JB from rooted, unlocked, stock 10o version without LGNPST

I was on stock ICS but rooted and unlocked and on software version 10o and wanted to update to JB but was reluctant to do LGNPST so I tried this and it worked for me so hopefully it will help some of you out.
Reading some of the forum posts, I understood that JB update won't remove root but if you have unlocked bootloader it errors out so:
First Step (locking the bootloader) :
Used FreeGee paid app from play store to restore my backup (which I believe locks the bootloader)
Second Step (Contact AT&T)
I contacted the technical support through the online chat option and told them that I would like the JB update but I am on version 10o. He told me to first connect my phone to wifi to be able to receive the updates. He was able to push 11c update to my phone which I installed and rebooted the phone. Checked that my root stayed intact using the Titanium Backup.
Third Step (Reset the update clock)
When I checked for a software update after upgrading to 11c, it told me to wait 24 hours so I went into TiBu to clear the olam data but it did not detect a new update so I advanced my clock to April 8, checked for update and it started downloading the update. Changed the clock back to today's date.
After that the phone downloaded the update, it rebooted, installed firmware, installed software and updated the android apps (48 something) and now I am on JB.
Hope this helps someone who was in similar situation.
I assume you still have root? Did you also unlock it with freegee after Jb?

Yes. I still have root. I have not tried unlocking with freegee after JB but the change log said it unlocks after at&t JB update so I think it should work.
Is there a specific keyword you are using to tell the customer service rep? I called 611 and they said they do not have any ability to push any update to any particular phone. They said that you just have to wait.

I prefer to chat.. so I just went to the technical support chat directly but they can definitely push an update to you. I didn't specifically ask for 11c update but I told them that I am on 10o and trying to update. I have found the chat more useful than phone.
Just got off the chat with the same results. Oh well. Hopefully it gets rolled out here soon. For reference I'm in Seattle.

I think when I was chatting with the rep, one of things he copy pasted in the chat window said that the customer needs to be on 11c to be eligible for JB update. May be try chatting with them again and ask them to push 11c update to you. I should have taken the screenshot of the chat window.
Just use lgnpst to get on 11c. G33k3r released the 11c file last night after I discovered you needed to be on 11c to receive the update. Lgnpst didn't effect your warranty so your good to go.

So i'm omn E97011c android 4.0.4 on a rooted phone.. once i click update software it will find JB and update.. i'll still have root when it's done?
Thx!
Couldn't wait any longer and just gave in. Used LGNPST to flash to 11c that was provided in the other thread. After that was upgraded I immediately got notified for the JB update. All my data was retained and nothing was lost in the process.
Thanks to the IRC channel for the help.

Yes, you will still have root. If you have unlocked the bootloader, you should lock/restore them before updating.

Yes. You need LS970.DLL

Or you could just flash the stock zip snowleopard posted and keep unlock and root.

Where could I download LS970 DLL? I searched google and xda and the only site that has it no longer host the file. Im trying to get from 4.0.4 ICS on my T-Mobile AT&T Optimus G

Download this, protect root, download update, restore root. You should be okay.
anyone else having issues updating. It downloads the update and then after reboot it has the android with the gears moving and then it shows a brief android with a red triangle on top of him and then it just reboots back to 4.1.1.

If you want root I would play it safe.
verizon / samsung do follow xda and they have been patching holes within their devices. to be safe you should wait for dev to get this file and give you direction.
a day (maybe two) wait will not hurt you! if you jump, it could be month before you get root back.

Actually I was rooted by root66.zip and everything was fine until I got the update. Now My phone is bootlooping on note 2 logo. would not go to recovery at all. It will go to download mode though. Just warning people who are trying to update and have root66,zip flashed.

Uploading to my Dropbox now, but it will be a while. Shows 40 min. left right now.
can anyone tell me. After getting this file downloaded. Is it easy to make .tar file to flash with odin?
Does anyone have the SystemUI.apk by chance? I did the WiFi toggle hack and thought I backed up the file but no dice. I can't upgrade it keeps erroring out on SystemUI.apk.
Has anyone successfully used OTA Root keeper with this new update? I don't want to be the guinea pig! I've never used it for an OTA, just for temp hiding root.

Returning phone for insured one, completely unrooted?

I followed the unroot process in the android development section using odin3 and my question is there any other action need to make sure verizon doesn't know I rooted my phone?
I had to send mine in a few months ago. All I did is odin to stock. If you used the vramc3 file then you are good. If you used a older version, take the updates so it's current. That's all you need to do.

Yes. The vramc3 is the current stock software from verizon. It will update your phone so it is just like a new out of the box phone.

Awesome, great call. DLing right now in Chicago region. 619.9MB but looks like the transfer should be complete within 4-5 mins.
Can you post the OTA
Is it safe to assume that the OTA would fail if I'm S-Off with TWRP installed? I just S-off'd & rooted last night. Still running the stock ROM. Haven't made any other modifications other than uninstall a few preloaded apps.
What folder do I find the ota, so we can get this thing rooted?

I'm not rooted on this phone and unsure of how to extract the OTA without root access. If you know of a way, let me know and I'd be happy to do it. In the meantime, here's a couple of screenshots of the updated baseband and firmware versions.
Ill post once its finished downloading if someone else doesnt get to it first
IF youve already updated, the ota usually gets deleted after/during the reboot....if you postpone and reboot itll be either in the root of your storage or in downloads...

No more OTA

So I rooted my GS5 last week and today when I had the phone check for a software update it replied: "The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way." And then it tells me to use Kies.
The only thing I have done so far is root it. Still running stock ROM.
I downloaded Kies and it says my firmware is up to date, so I'm guessing that T-Mobile doesn't like my rooting the phone.
Comments welcome.
This your first time rooting? I advise you do some reading.

Clearly, the initial user of this thread indicated that he tried using Kies. OTA updates after root are an inherit no-workaround issue. However, new firmware updates should be possible to install, even when root is present. The question is .... how?
Kies goes a step further by reporting "'SM-G900T' does not support initializing."
So.. where do we go? Do we unroot? If so, how? Is there a push workaround or something?
