[Q] P7510 Total Reset and reformat sdcard - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Folks,
I'm running CM10.1 Nightly on my P7510. Because I've just been using the update feature and not reading the forums regularly I've only just found out about the new file structure on the built-in sdcard.
I'm looking for a wiki or website that will help me.
Here's what I want to do.
Update to latest CWM 6.0.2.7.
Totally reformat tablet inc sdcard
Reinstall latest CM10.1 with wingray gapps
If someone could point me in the right direction :fingers-crossed: It's how to format the sdcard without screwing things up that's worrying me.

Ok I've flashed 6.0.2.7 using Odin.
Any help on the other bits ?

in CWM, format /system, flash rom and then flash wingray gapps.
if you want to delete your userdata (setup tab again in OS), wipe (in CWM).
if you want to remove everything on the internal sdcard:
while in recovery:
adb shell
mount /data
cd /data/media/
rm -rf .* * 2>&-
you can also pull files off prior to removal.
from your local host:
adb pull /PATH/TO/FILE/FILE .

Thanks
I only want to format the internal memory because JB restructured it. If I wipe the internal memory will the folders be recreated on boot ?

after you are done in recovery with /data (while in adb shell):
cd / && umount /data

Depends on your configuration. You're not saying anything about your phone, ROM version, nothing... how should we be able to help?
Anyway, here's a small guide:
- Nandroid backup simply backs up the OS (data, cache, boot, system);
- Nandroid + .android_secure = OS + applications you installed or moved to sdcard using the OS (not a2sd);
- Nandroid + .android_secure + ext = OS + native apps on sd + a2sd apps = everything.
Depending on the rom you run, and the partitioning of your sd, not all of the options that Masteryx described will work, you should do some reading on recovery. But for sure you could use the first option, nand backup, it will bkp your system. You can backup you apps with Titanium, so you have everything covered.
Thanks you guys. Sorry about deficiencies information my phone.
Now, I'm using LGP500 & ROM Megatronv1, so I can choose Nandroid (option 1) or Nandroid + android_secure + ext (option3) ?
Finally, I need a help in I need a help in up ROM. It is after press Partition SDcard (swap: 0, ext: 512), Are you press again and partiting SD doing. Because, other up rom I'm doing like that and SDcard missing almost 1GB. PC must format it if use SDcard again.
I'm so sorry because my english not good. Im VNese
Thank you for help everyone's

OK, if you're using Megatron you can choose any option (all of them will work) but recommended is Nandroid + android_secure + ext (option 3) because like this you will have a complete backup.
Because of the bad translation I can't understand what you need next. Try again, using different words.
Oh thank you very much.
My problem 2: In the process up ROM, the first choose Partition SDcard. Is this option required in the process up ROM?
Because when I choose this option, my SDcard lost almost 1GB and must format it. Do you understand? Again Im sorry
Oh...I choose option3 & error
Error : Run 'nandroid-mobile.sh' via adb
Yes, I understand now. Mostly because you have that error I understood what happens to you.
In the process of installing a custom ROM, you encounter the instruction to "Partition the SD card" from the custom recovery menu, and you want to know if this is really necessary. If the ROM developer said to partition the SD card, then you definitely should do it. If you flashed Megatron, you had to partition the SD card, create an 512 MB ext2 partition which then had to be upgraded to ext3 and finally to ext4. Also, if you use Megatron and followed the installing instructions you probably still have ThunderG custom recovery v1.1.0. This version can't back-up ext4 partitions, that's why you get an error when you choose "option 3" from nand backup.
Update your ThunderG custom recovery to v1.2 using the "flash_image" from here and the recovery image from here. Extract the files from the archives and put them on your SD card, then type these commands in console (do not type the $ and the #):
$ su
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
# cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
# chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
# mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak
# mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
# flash_image recovery /sdcard/LGp500-recovery-v12.img
# reboot recovery
Click to collapse
If you receive a "File not found" message at the mv command, don't worry and continue with the rest.
With the updated custom recovery you will no longer receive an error message when you will do nand + android_secure + ext backup.
As for the missing space from the card after partitioning, it is normal When you create an ext partition, it takes space from the SD card. The rest of the space is used for the FAT partition. The ext partition is not visible from the phone or from Windows, that's why it appears that your SD card capacity is smaller.
I tried but not working
on the LCD phone whether Build : RA-thundderg-1.2.0-gnm but error. Not backup. I think del old nandroidbackup on sdcard
Thanks
Please make sure you have enough free space on the card for the backup. If it's still not working, try any of the other options, you will have a backup which can restore your phone if it doesn't boot anymore, but you may lose some applications. No problem, you can reinstall them.
For option 2. it working good maybe not enough memory card. Almost 5GB I don't know have enough to backup. Anyway, thank you very much

Gtab 1.2 - boot loop to CWM

device was working fine i forgot way back what rom i used honeycomb somthing ,
although i wanted to just clean it out and all the apps, so i went into setting and clicked factory reset , it booted into cwm i chose factroy reset/cashe again from there , now bootup says booting into recovery kernel and starts cwm 3.0.2.8 ,shows gtab 1.2 and NI adam rev5
formatted sd card to 2048/0 , data wipe /cashe etc. same thing happens
i was reading a bunch about nvflashing here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950 although that was for people who couldnt boot cwm.

Can't say what's wrong without looking at the logs, but, since you said you wanted to clean out everything (ie. you don't mind losing data), do this in CWM:
1. Repartition the internal SD card.
2. Format /cache.
This will get your ROM installation into a clean, freshly installed, state.

Hmm. Now its getting interesting. Time to collect some logs.
1. Boot into CWM.
2. Repartition internal SD card. (Remove any external SD cards from the slot first.)
3. Format /cache (mounts and storage menu).
4. Run these adb commands on your PC immediately after completing steps 2 and 3.
Code:
C:\SOME\PATH> [B]adb push [I]C:\SOME\PATH\[/I]t.sh /tmp[/B]
C:\SOME\PATH> [B]adb shell chmod 700 /tmp/t.sh[/B]
C:\SOME\PATH> [B]adb shell /tmp/t.sh > log.txt[/B]
Post the log.txt file here.
okay thank you, i am installing the adb thing right now , although i dont understand was i supposed to do something with that file inside the t.zip you posted ?

Yes.
Transfer the t.sh file in the t.zip file to the gTablet and then run it. All the necessary commands are listed.
Just use the correct directory in place of the C:\SOME\PATH, and do all the steps, 1-4, which are given.
OK I will try to do this, I am a n00b and was never able to use adb before when I tried along time ago. And now I have a xp. 64Bit pc and have a lot of troubles with small things I never did before. I can do this. LoL

i am back rajeevvp ! dont bail out on me , i am ready to get this thing done its been awhile although its time , this is all possible because of people like you and my son who says he wants to try and fix it !
( ps i am waaaay to n000bed to use adb ) but he even wants to dev andy apps so this may be a language he can understands just fine .
UPDATE: turns out He ummm. wwell hehe. decided wipe cache partition, part SD card, fix permissions, format boot, system, sd, data and cache. now upon normal boot up we (me my son and the gtab get magic value mismatch.lol
i was going to have him learn how to run adb stuff get your log and now i cant pout in the t.sh file because i assume it only allows transfering to sd card with normal boot up because i tried to put it on micro and cwm doesnt have a option to search for external sdcard, so now ummm ,upon searching for the magic value mismatch i found this article and seems very intense for a small person like me.

[Guide] CWM ReParted

CWM ReParted is a method of reparition internal SDcard via recovery using flashable zip. It was developed a few months ago, but the message about this method "lost" in a closed thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54157635&postcount=129 so I decided to create separate thread.
It's only for custom (non-stock) based ROMs
Installation method
1) backup your /data partition and /sdcard
2) flash zip archive. It may take a while, be patient.
3) format /data, /cache (ext4 or f2fs) and /sdcard (vfat)
4) restore your data
5) swap storages via Novathor settings app
Thanks to @AntaresOne for a good starting point for this guide.

Thanks @fluffi444
Thank you for your guide. I looked into it and have some questions. I also study repartition script to know what it is doing.
It would be nice if someone can answer these questions:
We are able to deal with all partitions but no with UMS and HIDDEN. What is the purpose of these and why are they needed?
Is it possible to modify ROM and remove them? If so.. How to do that? It would be nice if we can have one big internal memory and one sdcard.
Now, there is one big data and one little 51kb UMS if I understood it correctly.
Fota can be removed totaly I think.
Thank you.

Why not UMS and HIDDEN? UMS is /sdcard and HIDDEN is /preload

Probably yes... But I don't know how to do that and I really don't think it is necessary for anyone. I use both of sdcards (yes, 32Gb is not enough for me )

Yes, fota will be removed after installation this zip.
I tried to find out where are /preload and /sdcard mounted and maybe it will be ok to edit:
/fstab.samsungcodina to remove mounting preload and sdcard (this file is probably in ramdisk)
and edit build.prop:
persist.sys.vold.switchablepair=sdcard0,sdcard1
but I'm not sure about that.
I did repartition your way but I have problem with Google Photo app. It requires sdcard0 which has no space Is it possible to switch them or use /data as sdcard like in Nexus devices?

I forgot to mention, you need to swap memory via Novathor App after repartition. You also can increase size for UMS if you don't want to swap storages.

~320 Mb on cache (I didn't change cache partition size because I use F2FS and it needs to use more memory in /cache. Anyway, you can edit repartition script as you want)
~51 kb on UMS and HIDDEN

I think you should go back to original partitions, or you'll get some errors
Or you can do it by hand if you really know what you are doing and if you are familiar with parted.
I studied script and partition layout and did it manually my way with little help which you can find in the first page of this thread. Essential is to know what partition you have to remove and what you have to leave untouched. Next step is to recreate it in propper layout and sizes. Then you format it and install ROM. Finnally switch Storages by Novathor settings.
any1 can tell me how to set the partiton back to original?

I'm using KK CM11. And installed this partitioning + kernel f2fs 1.6.3.
But i cant move apps to sdcard after partitioning. Any suggestion??
Maybe because on CM11 its move the apps to ext sdcard. Since ext sdcard doesnt have anyspace, so it wont move.
Without moving apps, i doubt i can install every apps i need.

Try to increase /sdcard partition. I realize now that this is not a good idea to reduce this partitiion to a few kilobytes.

Can´t mount any Partition in Recovery Mode

Hi!
Yesterday i got my wifes old S3 because she has an S5 now.
As Android 4.3 Original FW was installed i´ve rooted the phone using Odin 3.09 and CF-Autoroot which worked flawless.
Then i´ve flashed TWRP Recovery (newest version) using also Odin.
So everything is working well but i can´t mount any partitions in the recovery to connect the phone via usb and push roms or other data to it.
I get the following error message: Unable to find storage partition to mount USB
I´ve tried CWMTouch and TWRP - both are not able to mount any partition.
Plz does some1 have a conclusion for my problem?
Thx in advance!

Make a backup.
If your system is ok, you only loose temporary files in /Android and TWRP-settings in /TWRP. And in daily use, downloads, photos... of course.
I´ve tried to push a rom now via adb and twrp sideload option but windows doesn´t recognize the device
adb usb

Edit:
Meanwhile i´ve flashed a 3 part stock rom using odin and i´ve also re-partioned but still the same problem

Samsung S2 Cyanogen12 storage disappeared

Hello
And thanks for Cyanogenmod 12 to S2 didn't really expect that I was running 11 for most of the time
I have downloaded Cyanogen12 and Gapps the very mini one for it because there is enough storage I have been getting
Formatted cache , wiped data and wiped calvik
Installed Cyan12 and Gapps mini and booted into Cyanogen everything is fine except one problem which is I can't mount my internal storage
I can't open Gallery nor files nothing
The file explorer gives me sdcard0 a secure storage and has a password :/
I saw someone posting that I should flash the ROM without the sdcard but what does that help? and from where can I flash it if the sdcard is not present and I can't use the internal sdcard..
I've tried this :
Download this mini-sdk package and extract it to c:\mini-sdk
Connect your device to the PC
Start up the device normally, wait until system is fully loaded
Open a command prompt on the PC (cmd.exe), type and confirm each command with ENTER:
cd /d c:\mini-sdk
adb shell
su
restorecon -FR /data/media/0
exit
Click to collapse
but didn't help
If someone can help I would appreciate it.
which version you use? http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-1-t3185406 - works fine for me
It seems that flashing CM12 corrupted the partition for some reason I don't know what it is.
I've flashed CM11 back to get CWR back.. formatted sdcard0 , mounted it , flashed CM12 and it worked charm
And for some reason I thought I was posting in CM forum in the first post
Thanks.
