What does everyone think of this device so far. My wife is out of contract and this might be her first smartphone. Any opinions are much appreciated.

I'm on my second one in less than a week. First one died randomly rebooting about every 5 minutes. Now my new one I just got yesterday just randomly rebooted.
When I took it back, the rep said it just needed hard reset, so she did it, then it rebooted in her hand! It was classic.
Terrible track record so far!
Outta the box, meh.
4 hours outta the box with some tweaking (root, freeze bloat, new launcher, etc) Best phone I've ever had.
Only downside is the locked bootloader which means no AOSP ROMS. But I think I can live with that.
Also MANY people have whined and cried about the penTile display, in my opinion the screen is beautiful. Some apps aren't optimized for the new higher resolution yet so they look a little "off" but it's no big deal. No fault of the phone but of app designers. It should get fixed in due course.

I upgraded from the original droid running cyanogen 7 and I love the X2 so far. I installed laucherpro right away and rooted to install wired and wireless tether and freeze some of the bloatware that came with it.
I had a couple random reboots at first but I have not had one for a couple weeks now.
I was a little worried about the battery life at first but after a few days my battery must have finally been broken in and Im pleasantly surprised with the battery life.
No matter what you read elsewhere the screen is AMAZING... you can see it outside while its bright on the lowest setting, you bump it up to the highest and you can see it perfectly in direct sunlight.
People will also bash how much ram this has. Lots of people think that only having 512mb is a horrible thing. But if you actually do some research and learn about how android uses ram you'll realize that extra ram does no good. Essentially if its not being used its being wasted. I run a widget that I can click to see how much ram is left and its usually between 50 and 100. My friend has an atrix and his is usually around 400... which proves that hes not using the extra 512 he has available. So maybe down the road there will be some apps or a new version of android that will need 1gb or ram but i highly doubt it will be before Im up for another upgrade.
Rooting is a must
This was my upgrade from the Droid Incredible also rooted using Sky-Raider, and Cyanogen(mod) 7.0.3. The qHD and the dual core processor sold me on the phone.
After unboxing the I was struck by the brilliance and clarity of the screen and the phone was quite responsive at times. Easily viewable in direct sunlight (even when dimmed)but the phone was hanging when navigating to the home screen and the batter life was less than a day with light moderate use.
I rooted the phone using GingerBreak and after removing Bloatware, it is the best phone that I have seen for the price $199.99 with upgr.
The phone is worth the money, brilliant screen, responsive, and I am satisfied with the performance for now until there is a stable rom for it. Just ran benchmark with Quadrant Standard at 2128!

I really appreciate the opinions everyone. It seems like a great phone, but I think I'm getting her the Droid 3 simply because she's coming from the env touch (assbag of a phone btw) and would appreciate the physical keyboard. Thanks again.

Why I returned it.
Where is the memory? I appreciate that 108mb of the 512mb ram appears to be allocated to the GPU, but if you add up the OS, Home UI, OS tasks, opened user apps and free ram, there is still about 160mb missing out of 404mb. You can apply a memory script to help out, but the memory slowly leaks away, even with the script. The DX2 starts to lag.
MP3 pops and clicks. This is probably due to the low operational ram mentioned above, but even when not multitasking, there are random pops and clicks and gets much worse if multitasking.
Flash can spike the device temps past 115 degrees. Flash does not appear to get on with the DX2 firmware. Heat spikes and the battery is drained like the DX2 is on an LTE radio.
Random reboots. It seems to mainly happen during web browsing, Flash playback and playing video files. While I was debating on keeping it or not (due to the good things mentioned at top) and rationalizing that the issues would be fixed, my DX2 rebooted while updating a few market apps. I considered that a sign to return it.
Seems better to return it and see if they fix the problems, rather than get stuck with the DX2, IF the problems are not fixed.
IF they fix the issues, I will buy the DX2 again, or wait for the Bionic. I am more likely to get the DX2 again, since I doubt a 4.5" qHD LCD display, dual core and LTE will have very good battery life.
The DX2 would rock REAL hard if the issues are fixed. I have a gTablet with same chipset, 512mb ram and Froyo and it does not have the issues noted.

For my part, I've seemingly resolved the quirky behaviour by enabling the performance profile. The "medium" setting would cause reboots and strange laggy app issues. I'm still likely to get the Bionic later as well, and trade this one in for credit. I tend to swap between my upgrade, and my wife's line upgrade.

If you don't need 4G LTE or a front-facing camera, it's a great purchase on Verizon. First dual-core phone for them! More power means longer shelf-life for keeping up with demanding apps/games. Large qHD res screen, Tegra 2 processor, solid build quality and pretty decent camera. Some people don't like the Blur UI, but it's not as bad as it used to be. You can always replace with a third party launcher too.
If this phone didn't look exactly like the original Droid X, people would probably be talking about it more. I'm especially enjoying the tegra 2 gaming - Riptide Gp (link)
Mine is working alright for me, I can attest the Motorola bloatware does slow down the phone quite a bit.
I also have Quadrant only reading "1 Core" so I don't know if Quadrant needs to be updated or the rumors are true that the CPU is limited till we get the Ginger from Motorola.
As far as hardware goes, I doubt the 512mb of RAM will make a difference once we start using custom ROMs and remove quite a bit of the bloat. The Tegra 2 seems to make everything really snappy, the battery is better than my Droid 2, I do miss the keyboard though, so your wife may really really like the keyboard or hate it. I am a really really really big fan of the keyboard phones, but my phone died and they offered to let me upgrade early so I went with a Tegra 2.
Although with all the Motorola software / Verizon software etc. It runs pretty sluggish at times and the significant other's Captivate will run circles around my phone despite being just the Galaxy S internals. She likes to rub that in.
I just smile and wait till I end up running Liberty or MIUI on my phone so I can destroy her smug-ness.
I'm coming from a BB Storm and am super impressed by the DX2...all of the reasons I told myself I DIDN'T need an android phone are the reasons I am using this sucker so often. Love the apps. Here are some of my concerns:
HEAT - The plate below the battery cover, where the speaker is becomes too hot to touch at some points. After reading some of the forums it seems that this will occur more if I am watching flash or doing some major downloading. Three weeks in, it seems to be managed better as I am using Advance App Killer whenever I use the phone to kill process that start when I am doing nothing more than texting.
BATTERY LIFE - At first I was getting about 3-4 hours with moderate to heavy use. As another poster stated above, the battery seems to have broken in a bit, though it seems I will always need to pack a charger if I will be out for more than five or six hours.
MP4 PLAYBACK - I have tried to put 1-2gig mp4's on the SD card in a folder created called "_movies", but the X2 seems to struggle playing these files. On videos I have made using the X2, playback is not a problem. Error message is "File cannot be displayed or played". Annoying.
DISAPPEARING / GHOSTING APPS: Similarly, I have dropped adk files into a folder created called "apps" on the SD card (or sdcard-ext as IDed in file search). I have used my laptop in two ways to write the files: 1) with X2 tethered via USB using Windows 7 to copy/paste files on the SD and 2) removed the SD from X2 and plugged mini-SD into adapter to write files directly to SD.
UNIQUE NOTIFICATION: My BB had the ability to assign separate ringtones to different email accounts...I'm sure that I can do this with an app, but it seems so much easier in the BB settings menu thand the android.
So in researching these issues it seems all paths lead back to one thing: Rooting the phone. I have gingerbreak and am ready to do this, but am reluctant to do it knowing I have about 28 hours setting this phone up custom and I know I will have to start from scratch on that customization. Can anyone confirm that post-root I will still be utilizing the MOTOBLUR? I read a lot about people who hate it, but I like the 7 screens and widgets.
Just my 2 cents on the device. Overall, very happy. I'm sure I'll be extremely happy post-root as I think I am reading that rooting the device will solve a lot of the file and OS issues listed above.

Like it so far , pretty much as good as the X1. The screen looks great , they really improved the visibility in sunlight.
Otherwise I do have a few of the common issues like music skip, slow screen turn on, and random reboots. I figure they will get sorted when I can get a better rom installed.
I'm liking the X2 just fine. I upgraded from the Incredible and I'm glad I didn't go for the DI2. Dual Core...hell yea! Beautiful 4.3" display...hell yea! My guess is that things will get better with easy rooting and Gingerbread. Besides, I didn't really like my DI until I started using customs ROMs and cleaned out the bloatware.

If your not in 4g area and want a phone better than all the 4g phones get this one. i love this phone i had thunderbolt for a bit but it sucked it lagged like a Mother Trucker. I hate that the bootloader is locked cuz i love stock roms but o well ill live i have launcher pro plus running on mine with it rooted and ALOT of stuff FROZEN it makes it way faster and runs really smooth. i have heard alot of ppl complain about how much launcher pro sucks on this device but it think it works great i may have it have to reload widgets and such 1 out of a 100 times win i hit the home button but prob more like 1 out of 250. also i have used golauncher but i had a few problems with it stock blur actually works decent to but i dont like the look of it and i love 3d app drawer. i cant say ull love the phone but i know i do its by far best phone on verizon. Now if i could get a nexus on verizon id b the happiest man alive but o well i cant so ill have to live with my dx2 until they get a nexus or until another carrier can get service in southern il.

I used to always use Windows phones (back in the days of WM6.5), but the draw of android tempted me. Now i am considering a returning to the the land that is Microsoft. The titan looked like a really good bet for me, but i had the following concerns:
Single core: I know microsoft says there is no real need for dual core phones, but a friend of mine has got a sensation XE, and compared to my desire HD, it flies! Even though my desire is clocked at 1.8Ghz the sensation is running stock 1.5Ghz x2. Can WP7 be that different?
512 MB of RAM: This seems pityfull in todays phones, my old HD2 that! Does WP7 have better memory management than android?
No SD Slot: This is just plain criminal, i have a 32 Gig card and its almost full! Adding a slot could not add that much to the price/Bulk of the device.
Screen Resolution: That lovely big screen was a major attractant to me, But 480x800. 640x960 is becoming the norm with screens nearly a inch smaller in size.
Beloved TomTom: This is more of a general WP7 Gripe. I used TomTom with my old WM6.5 devices, it is hands down the best navigation software. I know android has no TomTom but this would get me back to windows handsets in a flash! I use sat nav for 3-4 hours a day at work, mostly in rural places. Nothing matches TomTom for accuracy or re-routing. Come on TomTom, sort it out!
Please don't take any of this as criticism over the phone. I was seriously tempted when the titan came along. Just me venting my thoughts.

So the big question is, to stay with android or run with WP7?

Probably your question and my answers need to be stickied somewhere, because I have been long time user of WinMo 6 and 6.5 and then Android's so called openness tempted me. I gave it a shot too. Ran gingerbread stock ROM with 1Ghz processor, ran Cyanogenmod 7 as well as custom gingerbread ROMs. Over clock to even 1.3 Ghz make that android pant for breath and oh those force closes! I still get those nightmares about things force closing right when you are trying to show off how cool your phone is with all those apps in it!
So I gathered courage (and money) to jump the android ship even after the reviews saying ICS will make it all better for android. Guess what? I don't regret it at all. I am so glad I made that switch.
Windows Phone 7 - is what professionals can design. Android is what open source can give. I just tweeted this morning about an interesting article that said, why Android will stay sluggish compared iOS and WP for rest of it's life until they do something what Microsoft did - it's in their framework.
They need that huge processor and huge dual cores because they got their framework wrong. The way they manage memory is ridiculous now that I have understood the difference between WP and Android. I know this will make my post long, but I think it's best if I summarize that article:
1) The UI rendering in android isnt done by separate dedicated thread in framework like WP7 or 7.5 does. So the priority of rendering UI is same as anything else on the phone = more memory requirement
2) In WP each view is rendered separately and stored in the memory. However in Android the UI is flattened before rendering. So this makes android to redraw the whole screen elements from scratch = more processing power
3) About memory - I think this is very much a personal preference. I don't sync my documents to my phone, I keep them on the SkyDrive most of the time. The only things that take up my memory is my songs, lots of them. But my requirement is nothing compared to yours. Say roughly 250 songs = 1GB, I will need to have 8000 songs that I listen to. Honestly, by the time I finish listening to these 8000 songs even once, I am sure there will be atleast 200 new songs. So I don't bother with music or storage much. 12GB serves me well.
4) Screen Res - If you are using AMOLED on Android, you will miss it for may be 3 days. If you are using LCD - you won't notice much difference in resolution. It would have been nicer to get higher res as you suggested, but for this price - it's much worth it with this UI!
5) TomTom - you've got to try Bing Maps! Come on, if you are on android and already don't have TomTom, I bet you've settled for something else. So if you can settle for something else on Android, why not on WP? And the market apps are being added, I don't think TomTom is much farther.
After such a lengthy post, I think I should add, that I've used exactly same spec and same size phone i.e. HTC Sensation XL on the side with HTC Titan. Sensation XL runs Android, Titan runs WP7.
I can bet anyone £500, without rooting and overclocking Sensation XL - show me that it works and looks as good as Titan! - It doesn't.
Every evening I try to play with Sensation XL, trying to make myself regret buying WP because I don't have so called 'must have apps' - but that counts for nothing as soon as I see live tiles on WP and think of the flawless working.
Hint: I bought both phones 3 weeks ago. I got 8 force closes and 2 reboots on Sensation XL so far. I haven't got single freeze or reboot on Titan. - see how different WP7 is compared to 6.5?
Sorry, I forgot to add - if you are a phone user whose life depends more on apps than flawless UI, integration and speed - Don't switch from Android. WP will need at least 12-15 months to have even half the apps (good or ****e) any other platform has.

Single core - My experiences with WP7 have gone back to the beginning and the single core has never been an issue. Even with loading all my email, text message, pics, games, and apps that i use. I'm one to reset my phone (and reformat my PC) just to keep it fresh but I haven't had to do that with the Focus from day 1. I can't say the same for my Captivate which, when I compare it to my Focus being both 1GHz processors, had its slow moments and I've reset that a couple times. WP7 has been more responsive at the same single core speeds. To me this became a non-issue based on experience.
RAM - My experience here is the same as with the single core question. I must say, when they built WP7, they did an excellent job with how it handles memory it would seem. As a programmer and project manager myself, I've seen apps just explode over time (been doing this since the late 80's) because of memory requirements or space requirements. It seems that MS has done a good job keeping the overhead down.
No SD Slot - I agree with you 100% here. As someone who isn't into putting all their stuff on the web I also think an SD slot is called for in all of todays phones. Especially when you reach this stage of feature phone that is supposed to be your one-in-all device. Manage what you have and it will be ok but it might be tedious depending on how often you need to change things up.
Screen Resolution - After handling the Focus, the Titan, and the Vivid on AT&T, I would say that this should be a non-issue for most. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the Titan looked on the bigger screen. Side by side, there was no real difference. People might say there is (to a purist techy, yeah) but in using it, there really isn't.
TomTom - There are a couple big names that already have GPS apps for WP7. TomTom will follow shortly I'm sure. Garmin already has theirs as well as others. WP7 is finally getting traction in the real world and companies are starting to get that. I think it was a "wait and see" scenario from a business perspective for most companies but they're starting to realize the market really is bigger than they thought it was going to be.

Echo sentiments on memory and cores. I'll add that the best way to manage music is through playlist. I pick albums to sync via playlists on my Focus. Remove an album from the playlist, add a few more, whatever, makes it easier than manually syncing. I also set up auto playlists for recently added and recently favorited music.
GPS, I used the new flavor of Bing Maps and the direction assistance. Pick a destination, it picks the route. The screen goes into a split mode with the upper half a map auto rotating with current direction and the lower half with the next waypoint. Double tap the screen for audio assistance telling you distance, street name and direction. Once you execute the correct turn, the phone confirms you're on the right path with a ding. Just double tap the screen again for the next step spoken to you. Very easy to do while driving with a level of interaction that keeps you on course with out nagging. I loved it.

My HD2 runs winmo 6.5 much better than my friend's captivate runs android. Winmo was much leaner and faster (though prone to locking up) and WP7 takes after that, but never locks up. Winmo also uses roughly 150-180MB leaving an excess of memory... my friend is anal retentive about ending processes on android and I don't remember exactly how much, but he always has significantly less memory available than me. WP7 also inherited this good trait. Honestly, the only drawback is I don't think you can play 1080p video with only 1Ghz, but with the wvga resolution that isn't something worth doing anyway.
No SD Slot:
Kind of annoying, but aside from media, my SD card is otherwise entirely filled with cabs and exes and apks... tools not yet available for use on the titan/wp7. The reason there is no SD expansion is because by locking down the file system size they were able to increase performance. If you invest in a larger data plan and the zune market / get the zune music pass, media storage isn't really a concern. You could even set up a home server and just stream your music, or set up playlists on youtube and get the metrotube app, which can load youtube playlists and it still plays the audio from videos while the phone is off (think: music from youtube).
Screen Resolution:
Since there is no HDMI out, resolution is a non issue. WVGA is fine, there is no stretching or pixelation, you'd never even know it was wvga from looking. This saves space as well, as you don't need to waste space with HD videos; if you properly convert all your videos, you save a lot of space and lose no quality.
Beloved TomTom: Garmin has an app, there are other apps, and there are apps to come. Bing works fine. I really don't see the difference between tomtom / garmin or other major brands: they both work fine and those who like one over the other are generally nit picking extremely irrelevant features, or had one bad experience with one and now unfairly judge it as nonfunctional.
WP7 is a new OS, and for a new OS it's doing very well. Android SUCKED when it first came out, but has grown quite well. WP7 will do the same, in both updates and through here, with the hacking / dev community. The base for WP7 is still windows CE, and technically it can support winmo 6 stuff, technically we can do everything we used to on our old winmo phones... when someone hacks that ability in

Wow. That explains so much.
YES you should make the jump! Love my Titan...not sure Android will ever be as smooth and efficient as WP, no matter how much processor and RAM you throw at it.
This device’s brilliance isn’t limited to the hardware either. Windows Phone Mango is really, really good. Nearly nothing about Microsoft’s OS works anything like iOS, while still feeling very fresh and accessible. It’s exactly the opposite of the way that Android normally feels, which is an uglier and slower version of iOS.
Speed is one of the biggest pitfalls that befall Apple’s rival operating systems. Time after time, touch is proven the biggest reason that iOS feels better to use.
At first, people blamed it on specs, or types of touchscreen. But now that phones are all coming with dual-core processors saddled with blazing GPU’s powering mutitouch tech that is potentially just as good as what Apple is running, it’s a different story.
There is simply no excuse for any mobile device not to scroll, zoom and navigate smoothly any more. Period.
It’s crazy to me how many Android devices still fail this simple test, dramatically. The Lumia 800 is a different beast. With a 1.4GHz CPU, underpowered by most modern standards, the scrolling and zooming experience is absolutely flawless.
Menus scroll and flow with well-timed inertia, pinch-to-zoom is brilliant in the browser as well as in apps like Bing Maps. It really is a first class interaction experience that is matched only by the iPhone in terms of smoothness.

You have not misread, i am not a Titan owner let alone a WP7 user. I have gone through a few OS's now, Theming and developing for them. As of yet i have not tried WP7 (but that might well change)
As of the second comment, it is not helpful. If there is anything i have done that you are not happy with, please feel free to point it out. I try my best to keep everything nice a tidy and keep everyone happy, the great users here in the Titan forum help me out, which i am most grateful for. I do put my time into this free of charge, Its all for the love of this great forum.
Anyway, i am here to moderate not to help with the device itself.
For most of thing i have seen, i think you should have bought the Sensation XL. It is Titan in Android, have almost everything you listed.
But personally, when i chose Windows Phone 7 for another 2 years, i have already kept the idea of no other mobile-based OS. Everyphone got its own optimized hardware for the OS it uses. I would prefer my Titan has the Metro UI instead of a custom build HTC Sense 3.0 .

Give WP7 a try. It might surprise you. I enjoyed flashing ROMs, testing versions of Sense, battery life issues, glitches, incomplete features, app launching, instability, ...wait... no I didn't.
WP7 is the only OS on the market. The others are app launchers with afterthought to social networking and notifications. Metro UI is clean and efficient while still delivering plenty of info with out launching an app.
I used to moderate message boards back when I was an editor and reviewer for a tech site. It isn't easy, so much respect.

I am most tempted by WP7. Just waiting for my ideal phone. Thought it might be the titan, but the lack of a SD slot is a real issue for me. But i am sure the twelve gig you get is fine for a lot of users.

You're totally right. I didn't mean any offense - you're doing a bang-up job, and this Titan forum is great.
I confused this forum with the generic WP7 forums, in which EVERY thread devolves into a WP7 vs. Android debate. It's tiresome to the point of being entirely counter-productive.
As a moderator, do you think you could talk to the "powers that be" and request a few things?
First off, not all of the WP7 devices, 2nd gen specifically, have their own forums yet, even thought they've been on the market for a while now. Focus Flash and Focus S users are left to post in the 1st gen/original Focus forum. Here's a list of WP7 devices.
Also, the drop down at the top of every forum screen that says "Devices by OS or Manufacturer" only has Android and "Windows Mobile" listed as OSes. If you click on the latter, the Windows Phone devices appear at the very bottom of a tediously long list of old WinMo handsets. It would be more efficient (and more CORRECT) if the "Windows Phone" OS were split from the "Windows Mobile" OS.
Sorry to hijack your thread, and my apologies once again for my counterproductive comment. I don't have much experience with Android, but my thoughts on the Titan specifically may be found here.

Beloved TomTom: This is more of a general WP7 Gripe. I used TomTom with my old WM6.5 devices, it is hands down the best navigation software. I know android has no TomTom but this would get me back to windows handsets in a flash! I use sat nav for 3-4 hours a day at work, mostly in rural places. Nothing matches TomTom for accuracy or re-routing. Come on TomTom, sort it out!
Please don't take any of this as criticism over the phone. I was seriously tempted when the titan came along. Just me venting my thoughts.

So the big question is, to stay with android or run with WP7?
Have you or any other WP7 users got any thoughts on that?

3) Here you have a point. I would have appreciated an SD slot too. I didn't see any Windows Phone 7 with SD card so far. Could this be a way to fight piracy ? (to force people using zune to trasfer files? really dunno).
4) Trust me, the screen is amazing, you won't argue about resolution or anything else every time I turn up my Titan all that I think is "WoW!!"

I used a Samsung focus. You could add a MicroSD to it. We were effectively able to upgrade both of our Samsung Focus' with a 32gb MicroSD card. The phones had 40gb of memory. Very nice. Be warned though, that when you try to remove the card and reset the phone, the MicroSD card is locked and cannot be used by anything else, EXCEPT your Windows phone. Yes, it locks the MicroSD card so that it cannot be read by any other device.

Firstly apology accepted, no hard feelings and thanks for the positive feedback
On the first part of your question, i do agree with you the forums are not up when the phones are available. I have had many problems in other forums because of this (Focus S being one of them). But with the sheer number of devices that get released at one time, its hard to keep up and know which ones will be popular. There is a thread somewhere explaining it, but i cant remember where i read it now, sorry!
The second point is a difficult one, i do tend to agree with you. But what about the other builds of android? They could be thought of as different OS, So we get a Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich (not counting the ones before that) So the OS list might get a little complicated. And before you shoot me down saying there not different OS's. Other Android users might totally disagree. Its all a balance of keeping everybody Happy. As i said i personally agree with you, but not so sure others would.
What i will do is post your comment in the MOD section. See what sort of comeback i get and let you know.

I did read about the locked SD card. Sounds like locking you down to zune is what microsoft wants. Not a massive issue, i would assume its still easy to use zune to transfer your music/video?

transferring through zune is very easy and i love the interface, i wish it would be faster though...
there are solutions for unlocking the sd card. the most common one is to format it using a nokia symbian phone. there is also an app made by xbmod which unlocks the sd card but i don't know if it works on any device. i used it on my htc hd2 running yukixda & xbmod's "back to the future" wp7 rom.
however, unlocking the card won't give the ability to transfer usable files to the phone. the wp7 partition has a special format type which cannot be read (yet). unlocking the sd card is necessary if you want to:
- partition your sd card and use part of it as removable storage space. again, this was made possible by xbmod on the hd2.
or
- replace it with another one and transfer the wp7 partition to the new card. also, you will be able to delete the wp7 partition from the old card and format it to be usable again on another device.
Ok so I should be getting my Titan by the End of Next Week and am curious about the Navigation on the phone. With my Android phone all I have to do is cache some of the maps zones using google maps than I can turn off data completely and just have the GPS chip work it's magic. So I guess the question is does the built in maps do this on WP7 and is there a way to completely turn off Data and only have Wi-Fi running so I don't run into overages as I cannot afford a higher tiered plan than the 200mb one. If not I will most likely wind up selling the phone or returning it as I cannot have my Data running my bill through the roof.

I should have buy another better android phone but now i already having other android devices (samsung plus 7.0 and Noontec android HD player).Now thinking on getting Lumia 800,do it have a good batt life?
Some say yes, some say no. I found mine decent enough, and I used it pretty heavily.
I did this switch about a week ago, having had a negative experience introducing my Desire HD to a marble floor at high velocity...
Basically I love the phone - the facebook/twitter integration is fantastic.
Probably worth saying though that the battery life isn't fantastic. Just about on a par with my Desire HD, though I do find the indicator to be somewhat overly cautious - 50% charge remaining looks more like 30 on the little display (reached this at 4pm today) ...
I use social sites, push gmail, spotify streaming (1hr), 10 SMS and approx 1 hr calls plus other minor stuff and generally get about 16 hours before charging. I suspect if you use it more you will get less. not a problem for me as it sits on the charger at work, but may be more relevant if you can't do that ...
The only thing I miss from my Desire HD is the Internet Sharing functionality, which is there in WP7.5, just waiting on Nokia to update it ...
The size and display are beautiful - I carry an iPad 2 for things that benefit from a larger screen, but am currently finding myself using the phone more for emails etc.
I heard a lot of negativity around the door covering the USB port, but I quite like it ....
You might want to see what happens with the Lumia 900 as well - that may have a bigger battery and better battery life (or it may not).

As a Lumia 800 user, I find the switch to be very painful and counter-productive. Here are some of the issues that I have encountered:
Extremely poor battery life. I cannot stress this enough. On normal usage (non-smartphone activities), it is fine. But try using Nokia Maps for 15 minutes or so and you will see the battery drain very, very quickly. And Nokia Maps is not even close to what Google Maps can do in terms of features.
No multi-tasking. Imagine this: you are in the middle of an action game when you accidentally press the Search button. Boom! The search interface pops up. Your game? Gone.
STILL NO USB OR WIFI TETHERING/HOTSPOT!!! Aarrrggghhh!!! It's 2012, not 2002.
Over-zealous OS lockdown. No third party dialer (those on the market aren't real dialer replacements). No folders for apps. No USB mass storage (fortunately, you can enable this through a simple registry tweak).
Very expensive games (compared to iOS or Android) with generally lower quality graphics.
Having said all this, your requirements may be very different from mine. It does have a nice & responsive UI, very good social network integration, nice MS Office hub and a nice email application. Some people swear by Lumia 800.

I've just migrated from Android to WP7 on the Lumia and am much happier. Now I'm not messing about flashing ICS roms every week I trust my phone with my data.

You will definitely like the Lumia 800 if you're coming from a Desire HD (I owned and hated that phone XD) the newer models of the Lumia 800 hasn't had any problems with battery life. For whatsapp and browsing, it's fine. Gaming drains as usual. See if there's anyway to lend one. To see how battery works out for you.
Nice point of view, yes, I don't do game on small device,even on tab I found it hard. But no tethering? How about near future,since my laptop will share internet from phone. I just want a simple phone with social n web browse.Thanks all

Not all games/apps can handle that gracefully. Fusion:Sentient would simply restart the game while Wordament would reset the score (when "switched out" at certain point).

got my Luma on Saterday and i love it, i have came from an Desire, the differance is amazing, smooth and fast, will not be hicking this, hope there will be more apps comming out, had to wait a while before the android mrket got some decent apps.
the batteryis hard to judge got mine on all the tme, playing games or music downlaoding music frome zune (for free for 14 days woho)

Ahhh...ok, I have another solution, when you purchase your phone, download the app Skydrive, it's Microsoft's cloud connected to your Hotmail account, so you can upload your photos there and access them through your email account, that way you don't have to install anything and it's easier for you to upload pictures to that and load them on to your phone when you get home to your PC vice-versa.

- OS Fragmentation, I hate having to install custom roms every time because the official update never comes, and manufacturers usually leave 6 months old devices forgotten.
- Another thing, I've noticed that WP usually have "less powerful" hardware than Android, there is no big race for dual or quad cores... That tells me that the OS doesn't need that much power to run smoothly.
Said that, i have a few questions. What is the expected longevity for this phone? Is it expected to receive the next OS update? and finally, what are the main drawbacks you find for the OS and are they expected to be solved in future updates?

Microsoft and Nokia have been doing quite well as far as OS and firmware updates are concerned. Sure there are lots of country variants for the firmware and they may not be released at the same time, but the wait is nowhere near as long as what Android users typically have to endure.
Also, OS updates seem to be quite independent of firmware updates (correct me if I'm wrong). At least this is the case for Lumia 800. So that makes it a lot easier for Microsoft to push new OS updates to WP users directly.
As for the hardware, you are correct. WP (up until now) does not really require multi-core CPU in order to run smoothly. Lumia 800 is packed with a single-core 1.4GHz processor, so it is quite a powerful phone. My only gripe is the under-powered GPU for gaming. 3D games look less appealing compared to their Android or iOS counterparts.
As for the drawbacks, I have already listed quite a few in the previous page.
For me I think I was happier with android, but the installation of new roms was a great pleasure for me, not a drawback.
The OS runs smooth as anything on its 1.4ghz core and I never use my phone for 3d gaming so I really have no need for a faster proc.
The biggest drawback for me are the following.
-Some of the 'simplification' of the OS is mid-boggling. If you turn down the volume because its late at night, or your music is too loud expect EVERYTHING on your phone to have a lower volume, the ringtone, the alarm, the games, the notifications etc. I have been late for work 3 times now because I had dropped the volume of my alert tones late at night and I subsequently had no alarm.
-The apps are lacking but expanding all the time, sometimes I get a bit frustrated by the 'no results' when searching for a slightly more obscure app feature. Android just has everything.
-The navigation is a long way off being as good as google navigation but is decent all the same, but NO WAY POINTS (stupidity!). That being said I still think google navigation is still a way off the market leaders like tomtom.
Basically for a day to day phone and for its core features, it is excellent. But dont expect to be able to customise anything other than your home tiles (sometimes). If an OS 'feature' could be considered to confuse a simpleton then you can bet your arse it wont be there.

When I played NFS Underground an accidently pressed the Search button, when going back to the game it didn't continue. It started all over. So no not a load of rubbish. Only native apps has continue on "multi-task"
It's not only native apps, third party ones can do it, as long as they're coded for it.
Really looking for a good decently large android tablet. I like vanilla android a lot and specs seem really good for the Nexus 9. Looking at the reviews though it doesn't look so great (bad volume and power buttons, light leaks in the screen, lagging applications, etc.). For those of you that own it what do you think, would you recommend it?
I love my Nexus 9 and would strongly recommend it. I've had zero issues with it.

I love it too! Just got it yesterday and have zero issues. Love how fast it is. Total bliss.
primary question, what will you primarily use it for, media, web, reading, gaming (high end or low end) .
I personally use mine as a jack of all trades with very little gaming. ( my wife on the other hand would need the nvidia shield for her gaming obsession )

I've had almost every tablet out there. I have a habit of buying them as they are released and I have to say that this one is my favorite. The combo of lollipop and the tablet makes it feel like it's completely unique. Fast as hell, beautiful and it feels good as an ereader / comic reader without being too big.

For ME, I don't want to be aggravated or pissed when using a tablet, which is exactly what the nexus 9 does. I've owned about every nexus device ever made, and this one is the worst (and best) user experience all in one. Mainly-
1) screen flicker. Every day. Always comes back after a reboot.
2) lag. I've had single core devices lag less than this thing. Literally. I know why its its lagging, and right now its unfixable.
3) after using a nexus 6 today, I am absolutely 100% convinced the n9 should have had 3 gigs of ram. This is the worst as this is something that wont be fixed until the NEXT nexus tablet comes out. The nexus 6 in a 24 hour period didn't hit low or critical ram states at all. Not one second. The 9 lives in these states. I had 5 chrome tabs open on the n6, while switching back and forth between all kinds of **** including games, and a page NEVER refreshed. It was wonderful, and made me realize the main thing I use the n9 for completely SUCKS compared to a phone. If anything, a tablet should be better at these things, not worse.

I do recommend it but wait another month so you'd have a better chance of getting the newer revision which seem to have less issues with the buttons and lightbleed.

What do you do to get lag??
I get no lag here
I bet you will say because it only has 2g of ram

I don't get lag on everything. That's not what I'm saying, and which is why I also say its the best and worst experience on a tablet.
I don't really multitask a lot, no more than average I'd say. I literally use this tablet for a few things, web browsing, youtube, very light gaming. My multitasking involves switching between youtube and chrome, and rarely a light game.
What I am saying though is it does lag MORE than most devices I have. After a fresh reboot, even in safe mode so there is 0 third party apps running after a while this tablet gets hit with serious bouts of massive lag and stutter. I've always heard about android lag, blah blah, and always basically thought people were full of **** or being too picky because really I've never had a device that lagged or whatever. Ya an occasional hiccup with previous devices, but rarely and never too bad. Not with the 9. Its consistent after a few hours use..
Maybe since you are actively developing, you're rebooting often. When I was compiling kernels and aosp builds, I flashed multiple times a day, which I'm assuming you may be as well as fast as you're kernel is being updated. Chances are if you don't have these bouts of lag, that's why. Like you said you can't believe my device lags a lot, I can't believe the opposite. If after a few hours my tablet is starting to lag while in safe mode, I find it VERY hard to believe most people aren't seeing ANY lag. Maybe what I'm considering lag you aren't. I'm calling lag ui choppiness/stutters/unresponsive for multiple seconds after pressing something.
I know lag is not hardware- Denver seems to be beastly. Software?- parts maybe, but lollipop does not have these 'lag' periods on my nexus 4, nexus 5, or either of my two nexus 7 2013's. I personally don't think its a coincidence that my nexus 9 is the only one that spends its time in low and critical memory, and its the only one to lag. Add to that it ONLY seems to lag bad while in these states. With all this said, what else is causing lag? Especially when it happens in safe mode- so third party apps are out of the question they are not the main cause. Something causes this lag, maybe its not lack of ram, but it sure seems that way so far- if memory leaks were fixed , maybe this will become a non issue. System ui and android system shouldn't be consuming 300mb a piece, which is what they will swell to after a few days.
On top of this, there is a reason google is using zram on this device and no other nexus, and its not because they're are testing it out or whatever else I've heard. They knew 2 gigs probably wasn't quite enough. Why else would they do this?
I just took this screen shot- this is actually better than usual. I'm curious if you don't have lag what this screen looks like for you, set to 24 hour period?

I hope so. I do like everything about it, besides said issues. Form factor, performance is good and smooth as butter a lot of the time, but when its bad its really bad IMO. It seems like there are big memory leaks with lollipop in general, and they seem to be worse on the nexus 9. Hopefully if they are fixed it will help with my(and other people's) issues.

If you must have a pure android experience. Then it's a no Brainer. This is the tablet for you. And it's future proof.. meaning that the 64 bit processor is going to kick the **** out of the competition (once app developers take advantage of it ).
The galaxy tab series is also really good. But unfortunately. it has touchwiz. but that can be corrected with a custom ROM.
So far I'm pleased with my nexus 9.

I'm thinking of getting the Nexus 9 as well. Plus, it's going to be my first tablet ever. Because of the prices I can only afford the 16GB model (white). Do you think this will be enough space? I know after the first use of the tablet there are only ~ 9GB left, but I think of only using it for creating and editing documents, watching movies (not that much), surfing, ... just basic stuff.
To "upgrade" the storage I read that the Nexus 9 is supporting USB OTG so in case I run out of space, I can simply plug in a stick for additional space, can't I?
Is there anything I have to look for before purchasing? I'll try out the tablet in a local electronic store, I'm aware of light bleeding and the problems of the back of the tablet. But is there anything more?
It would be nice if you can tell me something about your experiences!

That sounds great so far!
I read that there are 11,5GB free but only ~ 9GB "for use". Can you confirm that? But anyways, I'm not going to use it for huge amounts of music and pictures so I guess (and hope, haha ) that it'll be enough space available.
Has anybody else experienced or is experiencing rather poor ram management on their S6e?
I'm finding app refreshes really quite abundant. Yes they refresh quickly in most cases but they are refreshes nether the less.
Worst are apps that dump you out of what you are doing like Tapatalk.
System manager tells me I gave 400mb free and yet app refreshes are a common occurrence.
My nexus 6 rarely has to auto refresh - indeed conversely I can open Tapatalk on that and have to manually refresh to get content. But at least I never get dumped out of a thread and taken back to menu.
The Galaxy S5 was poor enough with memory management, I hoped the 3gb in the S6e would put an end to forced reloads & refreshes but nope.
I have a sim free factory unlocked model, no carrier bloat and have factory restored and still same issue persists.
Its as if Touchwiz despite certain improvements is as memory hungry and uncouth as it ever was.
I know how you feel. RAM is always almost full even if there are no apps running. I can multitask without refreshes if I go to an app for a few seconds. But if I spend like even just a minute then I get a refresh. Even with just one tab on Google Chrome, I get a refresh immediately by just using Facebook for a while. I mean wtf?
I believe it's due to the memory leak on 5.0.1 wait till we get 5.1 to see if they fix this issue

No memory leak is only on nexus devices and related to its particular bootloader - something Samsung device doesn't have. It won't improve if it's not good now.

Yep exactly as you describe and it's really quite annoying. Feels like the phone is being gimped by its OS Skin. We shouldn't be having this issue on a 2015 3gb top of range device.

Ah I didn't know that. Thanks for correcting me. I also have this issue as well and hoping this issue is fixed soon from Samsung.
I have this issue too.. Anoys the heck out of me;.. I can pause pandora, and then open another app, and pandora lost its place!
happens a lot more then it should.

Yep. How come all the so called in depth reviews never mentioned this issue. To me aggressive memory killing and excessive ram usage is far more detrimental to user experience than the odd bit of lag, yet the only thing we kept getting told is how lag free this device would be and how super fast the ram is.... And yet it can barely keep 4 apps in memory for 5 minutes. Its really frustrating.

ikr.. they didnt mention this ram thing at all. are they even used this phone at all to post those reviews?!? I was using an iPhone 6 Plus before, and I never had this issue at all. I hope they can fix this as soon as possible.
I don't think the reviers use it really all that much. I don't think they load a lot of apps like most us users.. Idk it is sad. I also think Pandora for example is weird. Once you hit pause the icon disappears on top. So it's free to get killed. When songza for example, just pauses and keeps an icon on top. I'll almost chalk that up to bad programming. But fb, chrome and whatever, yea.. Sucky

Yep... I have less refreshes with my 6+ too.
The 400mb free ram available thing irks me too - if it's free why isn't it being used ? And what the heck is using up the 2.4gb before it ? Even when I tell it to close all my apps the most I have free is around 700mb which soon drops back to the 400-480mb mark. It's crazy how memory hungry and inefficient it's being.

I've been searching for a thread like this for a week. Just got my phone a few days ago and man the ram management is piss poor. My HTC M7 doesn't have this issue. And yes I've wondered why no review site has mentioned this at all. I mostly noticed it on Chrome.. or even the stock browser. But yes it does this auto refresh crap on other apps as well. I don't know about you guys but I have the AT&The variant non edge and I have 5.0.2.

Yeah I have a stock UK/Ireland factory unbranded handset, so its not carrier app fault either unfortunately.
The M7 & M8 are both excellent indeed - with near stock android levels of memory management, which only goes to prove an android skin doesn't have to suck the life out of a device, which is exactly what Touchwiz feels like its doing.
The S5 wasn't great memory management wise, the Note 4 was good but no where near as good as the Note 3 memory wise and sadly the S6e seems very poor especially when you consider it has 3gb. So it seems to me since the Note 3 Samsung's flagships have been getting worse ram management wise rather than better.
I have a €950 flagship phone which handles memory about as good as a Moto G with 1gb.

so you're telling me that the S5 for a year now still has crappy ram management??? that's just crazy and boggles my mind. i seriously don't want to keep this phone for 2 years of this nonsense (i get a new phone every 2 years). if that's the case i might just return this phone. as good as it is, that's almost a deal breaker to me. i always multitask switching from web page to messenger, to camera, sports apps etc.. etc.. then back to web page just to see it auto refresh every time! if i'm just bouncing back and forth between a couple apps within a min or so it doesn't seem to do this but after about 5 mins.. it never fails.. auto refresh is a certain. so sad. i don't want to go back to apple, but right now, i might have to return this phone and wait for iPhone 6S.
what also baffles me is that i don't seem to see much people talking about this issue considering this is a flagship phone and millions have already been sold worldwide.

I think because the phone is otherwise very very fast some folks may not be noticing the refreshes. Its certainly more noticeable on apps that drop you out of what you were doing back to a previous menu screen like Tapatalk.
I think people genuinely want to believe the
Hype that the S6 & S6e are the nirvana of android...
I must admit I too am shocked folks aren't complaining more or are giving the device an easy pass on this issue, but for me its a total PITA.
I will keep the S6e until the next update and hope that has some memory tweaks, but if it doesn't I'll consider just selling it on.
I tiped phonearena about this issu and they announced it today so maybe this will open some eyes in Samsung dep.

So far, ive had issues of battery drain with bundled apps such as the AMAZON app store, as most of us here are already aware. I wonder if this ram issue has to do with the same preloaded apps causing issues? What about people who rooted and reinstalled all Play-Store-Reinstallable apps, through the Play store, has that cleared this issue? Maybe the misbehaving apps are taking their system-level privilege a little too far?
Glad some review sites are taking an eye on this. It's actually really annoying. Even my music app constantly shuts off and I have to force it to cause a wake lock for it not to shut off (poweramp has this option)
