If I Overclock the GPU and Underclock the CPU...... - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I overclock the gpu to 600 mhz and under clock the CPU to 1Ghz, will it improve my frame rate in graphics intensive games while not consuming too much power????? (the Gpu clocks are in steps)

Undervolting: differences between CM7/GB and CM9/ICS

When I first switched to CM9 a month ago or so, I noticed that the undervolt was SO limited compared to CM7 (well, stock kernels don't support undervolting, but the result is the same with different kernels).
Under CM7 I could undervolt at -250mV (100mhz frequency step) and at -75mV for every step between 200 and 1000mhz.
Now I can undervolt at -25mV between 200mhz and 1000mhz and no undervolt is possible at 100mhz. Anything lower than -25mV will cause instant or delayed freezes and reboots.
If the hardware is still the same, I wonder if there's an explaination for such behaviour.
ICS/JB architectures put way more stress on CPU/GPU/RAM then FROYO/GB thus causing less OC/UV.

That's interesting.
After a couple of months, I can say that those voltages keep the CPU rock solid under CM10 and Semaphore kernel:
-25mv @ 800 and 1000mhz
-75mv @ 100, 200mhz and 400mhz
It's worse than CM7, but it's better than CM9.
Somehow, JB architecture has been improved.

[SOLA] CPU freq. doesn't stick...

Hi everybody...
Today i noticed a little problem... My sola keeps set the min. CPU frequency to 200 mhz or to 1000 mhz... Why is happening this?
Is due to dual core CPU? How can i make my CPU stick to 400 mhz on governor ondemand?
Thank you,
CappyT
I think you have to set both min. and max. frequency to get it stock on 400 Mhz otherwise cpu is going to scale frequency from 400 MHz to 1 GHz depending on its needs.

Is there any way to get rid of thermal throttling?

Hi,
The new games started to demand more cpu and games like Modern Combat 4 lags as hell when cpu is 800 mhz, when it is 1.2 ghz the game is smooth. I am experiencing this problem on a few more games.
I installed an app that shows cpu temp, when cpu reaches 65 celcius, it downclocks to 800 mhz, when it becames 60 celcius, it becomes 1.2 ghz again, and this problem makes major lags. The problem is the phone reached 65 celcius not more than 1 minute and impossible to play without lag. Undervolting is not a solution and my gpu is at stock speed and voltages.
Is there any solution to lock it to 1.2 ghz. Even I set the cpu to performance governor or set the min scaling speed to 1.2 ghz, it still downclocks to 800 mhz. I think increasing the throttling threshold to 80 celcius or sth should solve the situation.
Use an app like setcpu(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mhuang.overclocking) you need root but you can just set up a profile that if modern combat 4 is running then min CPU=1200 and max= 1200

Thank you, but the phone is stubborn about downclocking to 800 mhz. If the phone reaches 65 celcius, there is no way (that I found) to prevent downclocking to 800 mhz.

Cpu problem without a charger

Hello
I have problem with max cpu clock. I set max settings to 2,2 ghz and i play games but after some time cpu clock fall to 1036mhz for a big CPU ( small cpu is okey- 1,5 ghz). when I plug in the charger clock will go back to 2.2 ghz, Where is the problem?
thank you for the answers and excuse me for my bad English.

Cpu big (a72) throttle itself at 90°c ??

I already disabling the thermal and get the cpu to max the clock. But when the cpu hits 90-95 °c, the big cores is throttling from 2ghz to 400 mhz (im using elindir v6.1) can anyone help me removing this hidden thermal throttling?
I don't think it can be tweaked. More than 90°C in a smartphone CPU is unsustainable and can cause hardware damage. Probably it's hardwired in the CPU itself and nothing can be done in software. Like the thermal trip-off point in Intel/AMD CPUs.
