Hello everyone,
For unrooting purposes If I flash a stock firmware 4.0.3 via Odin then will the flash counter increase by one? I have reset it to zero using triangle away app already and my device is rooted and on stock with that super brick bug. Also that I can flash any of the stock firmware like LPQ as long as it is developed for I9100 right? Or there any sort of regional restriction?
Thanks in advance!

ask moderator to move your Question to Q&A section bro, here is development section
You can always reset your binary counter with triangle away or USB jig.
If you are on stock firmware, you are good, because it is samusng's original.
4.0.3 keeps the brick bug away.
Firmwares are separeted by branded & unbranded, they all work on any I9100 devices. Modems, on the other hand, my not work in your country / region. You'll have to flash another one in order to get your network to work.
I am trying to find the answer to the OP.
My S2 has just been replaced after a long struggle with the supplier & Samsung so I have decided not to ever do any custom ROM flashing again.
The above replies didn't really answer the simple question: Does flashing an official ROM like the new 4.1.2 JB with Odin increase the custom rom counter on the phone.
I know this can be reset but it was trying to do that before that bricked my phone and why it had to go back for service. I don't want to do that again but if I know the custom ROM counter will not go up I'm happy to flash official JB with Odin.
My phone is CYV (Cyprus) so likely to be one of the last places to get JB via OTA or Kies.
Thanks

Custom couter stay at zero, but bootloader will by unlocked and "smart" guys in samsung service will know about flash.
@grisoxxl: I did not quite get you. You mean to say that the bootloader once unlocked remains unlocked even If you flash a stock firmware?
And one more thing. When do I need to backup that efs folder? Know about HC ktool?

Well I've googled quite a few key words to see if I could get the answers to my questions and I haven't found too much yet. I have a Bell Galaxy SII that's rooted 2.3.3 Android version. I ended up flashing my kernel long ago as well which gives me the yellow triangle now I don't care about that but i want to make my phone like it was when it came out of the box. I have the original firmware and kernel. What im confused about is there is Odin to flash this and that and then there's dumping the files on your phone and using Clockwordmod. what's the difference? which should I use and what do I flash first? the original Kernel then firmware? or other way around? or does it matter? youtube is nice and all but it shows customs unroots for branded S2's not mine which is Bell im having issues with my tethering disconnecting me from my computer so I think it's best if I revert back to factory since all I do is make phone calls and tether. Thanks guys
PS more info if this helps

No as you have just flashed an original kernel .
Reset custom rom counter with USB Jig .
jje
the moment you flash a stock rom it will contain the stock kernel so you would lose root and all the custom stuff you had, basically what you have is an out of the box device

perfect thanks im just messing around right now with going back stock to see if that fixes my issue with getting Disconnected when I tether now I wrote all this info down so I can go back and forth over time and experiment with different roms
most of the custom roms do not support tether which sucks, but yeah its part of the fun to flash stuff over and over
agreed with above posters, flash it over and over again until you fully understand how the flashing really work
my sgs2 download counter has reach 16 because I was affraid to use cwm flash, so i went back and forth from original rom to custom rom
Hello,
Sorry if this has been answered before. But I need to flash my SGS2 back to complete stock ROMs. It was locked to Orange before I started to play with it and had all their branding on it. I have also got CWM which I will need to remove.
I have also changed the modem, I think. I have no idea which one to re-install!
Thanks for any help that is given. (It needs to be done for a warrante return)

if you had a version with the new bootloader you need to flash the old bootloader in order to be able to reset the counter with the jig.
you should have written down what your stock firmware was...
Why are people consistently sorry if a question is already answered, but still insist on asking. Surely they know to googlise it.

Hi,
First post in this forum but have been on XDA for a while now (galaxy ace/note). Did look for this before posting. My wife has an S2 and it recently updated (via kies) to ICS. Its the UK (H3G) carrier version. Im not new to rooting/roms/flashing etc as have flashed my old galaxy ACE countless times CM7/9 etc.
I understand the S2 has a custom flash counter which could screw up warranty.
She hates this (H3G) ICS as it has quite a load of bugs. (Freezes lots etc) and I was wondering the following:-
1 - Do you need to root the s2 to flash via ODIN?
2 - Will flashing a stock ROM from sammobile increase the flash counter?
3 - If so will triangle away work to get rid?
She is not keen on the warranty being void but will happily go back to GB if I can do it for her.

You can root using odin, flashing anything will increase your counter and Triangle away does work but it can hard brick you phone at the same time.

Cheers for the quick reply. The first question was do you need root for odin? is Triangle away that risky?
A. No.
B. No.
C. No need if not rooted as flashing official firmware package will not increase the counter. An insecure kernel will.
Just follow Intratech's official firmware thread. Has all the instructions you need.

Flashing the stock Rom = No Triangle
I flashed the leaked version of ICS using ODIN and didn't get the flash count triangle, It wasn't until I flashed the edited stock kernel that allows root (without effecting the rest of the phone) That I did.
But using Triangle away got rid of it and I feel the major warning message may be a little overkill as it only took a second and it doesn't even reboot the phone.

Ok, I need to sell it...I'm using kitchen ROMs since 2nd days of my phone but I bought a JIG too (In case of emergency) and my flash counter is still at 0
But I have some doubts...I don't care about warranty but now that I'm selling it I have to think about it: can I wipe everything on the phone and then flash a stock ICS Rom with Odin to restore warranty or my warranty is gone anyway..?
Thank you
If your custom counter is at 0 and you don't have the yellow triangle at start up, then flash an original stock rom for your region on to your phone using odin. This will restore your phone to stock. See the links in my signature for reference.
Hey
Jigs don't work with ICS and Triangle Away won't work on an unrooted Rom, too. Therefore you should get an official Samsung Gingerbread Rom. If you got your phone from a carrier download the rom appropriate to your carrier.
Flash this rom in Odin and afterwards set the flash counter to 0 with your jig (if needed). If this all worked you can now update your phone in Kies to ICS.

Ok that's great to know..but If i flash a stock rom my counter will not increase...right?
An official stock rom by Samsung will not increse your custom counter, as its offical and not custom.

Ok last question: any stock rom or only the one from the country where is my phone from?
Any should work, but it would be best to keep it authentic and use one from your region (and / or carrier if thats how your received it). There may be region specific settings such as modems which come with it and if you've got a UK firmware on an handset purchased in Italy i might look a little suspect.
Choice is yours ultimately
ok so..i don't remember which was mine..if TIM branded or no brand...or if was imported or not..any way to know it?
A quick glance on Intratechs site (last link in my sig) shows that Italian roms are marked with ITV. Oh by the way, youre using i9100 international right?
yes International, but I switched from many many roms...is there a way to know from where is my phone to restore its country firmware?...may sammobile helps me?
Not if the original purchaser does not have a clue ..
Flash local stock rom .

Hello,
I have to send my international version of galaxy for repair due to damaged screen.
I currently use omega roms with Syiah Kernel however I would like to install stock rom back on the phone before I send it to insurance company for repair.
I think custom rom may invalid claim therefore I would like to be on a safe side.
Can someone know a reliable guide of how to install stock rom over a custom one? So far I found this one.
http://www.jayceooi.com/2012/06/14/how-to-restore-stock-firmware-on-samsung-galaxy-s3-video/
Can someone please have a look and let me know if this guide is correct as I do not want to brick my phone.
Thanks

Follow it step by step. This is exactly how you want to send your phones back to Samsung to claim guarantee or replacement.
Hello. I have a question about flashing stock ROM.
I'm on stock 4.0.4, unrooted, nothing touched, and I want flash 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
I heard that if I flash with odin my counter will stay on 0, is that true?
I will download ROM from sammobile.
And can someone give me instructions for flashing with odin (I do it a couple of times on my Galaxy S, S2, etc, but I can't remember what I must tick)?

Yes.
It will stay on 0.
because those are official firmwares.
On Odin. Connect the phone in download mode, select pda and select the firmware you downloaded from sammobile.
Click start. :good:
Don't forget to reset your counter flash first!
First of all, reset your counter flash with the Triangle Away app. If you don't do this, they are going to refuse your warranty.
Then you can use this tutorial to install the last stock 4.1.2 Rom (I9300XXELL5) on your device:
